€ A NOTE FROM PASTOR PHIL...
Dear Friends,
I am minutes away from leaving for Orlando, FL for the City Impact Roundtable and the Mission America Annual Meeting. Both of these gatherings have tremendous potential to bless the Body of Christ. CIR, by connecting and encouraging those called to network Christ-following congregations and ministries throughout their town or city or region. MA, by casting a vision for prayer-based collaboration and by issuing an urgent appeal for fervent prayer for a genuine revival in our nation (the United States) and the world.
Will you pray this week? That the Lord will not merely be present but that He will preside over every meeting, every decision, every conversation.
With love and appreciation,
Pastor Phil
PS - I do not have a laptop computer ... so, I will be unable to respond to emessages until next week (October 29). ___________________________________________>>>
1. MOBILIZING PASTORS TO ESTABLISH NPPN BRANCH IN WEST AFRICA - LIBERIA >From: Israel Newberry <israelnewberry@yahoo.com>
I am a member of NPPN and I am mobilizing pastors in Liberia to establish a branch of NPPN in the sub-region of West Africa.
My church is a grass root church and we believe in pray as the life-blood for us to survive as a church. Our church name is Living Word Dunamis Church Int'l.
We also anticipate planning a prayer summit and have you come as our guest minister. We believe when the time is ripe it shall come to pass.
Join us in prayer for this plan and the mobilizing of pastors for the establishment of NPPN in Liberia and the sub-region of West Africa. Let's keep in touch as prayer partners.

3. PASSING THE BATON >From: http://www.missionfrontiers.org
With remarkable accomplishments to its credit, the AD2000 and Beyond Movement closes its doors. But its impact lives on -- Rick Wood, Mission Frontiers, June 2001
For all of the AD2000 Movement's short 12-year history, Mission Frontiers has been a partner with this movement in its efforts to mobilize the church to reach every unreached people group. As we say goodbye, it is with the hope that God will bring to completion that which He has begun through them. We present here an overview of its history and accomplishments. May we learn the lessons from their success so we may complete the vision of a church for every people that was at the heart of this movement.
It started out as a simple question in the heart of Dr. Thomas Wang, "Is God trying to tell us something?" Dr. Wang, then International Director of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization, posed this question in the May 1987 issue of Mission Frontiers. He presented the fact that there were hundreds of separate global plans being created and pursued to reach the world by the year 2000, asking: "What is He trying to say to you and me through these happenings around us today." This question became a burden for an answer in Dr. Wang's heart. Less than two years later in January 1989, Dr. Wang convened the first Global Consultation on World Evangelization (GCOWE), bringing 314 mission leaders from 50 countries to Singapore to help answer this question. The result was the birth of the AD2000 and Beyond Movement with a commitment to establishing a church-planting movement within every unreached people group. The AD2000 Movement started out as a small office to disseminate information. Although there was never more than 15 staff working from the home office, under the leadership of Luis Bush, the new international director, the catalytic impact of this movement grew far out of proportion to its size. The central purpose of the AD2000 Movement was to mobilize the Body of Christ worldwide into active outreach to every people and every person. This mobilization effort expressed itself in four major initiatives: networking/partnership, national initiatives, information gathering and dissemination and global conferences.
Networking
The AD2000 leadership and staff saw their role as a catalyst to bring the mission community together to cooperate and coordinate toward a common goal and thereby boost the effectiveness of the overall mission force. Building networks and partnerships to accomplish this were an essential part of the process. Hundreds of mission organizations and ministries were brought together to form specific "Tracks," Task Forces" and "Resource Networks." Those ministries with similar areas of outreach came together to network, cooperate and coordinate their efforts. Tracks were formed for those involved with prayer, translation. Gospel recordings, mobilization, unreached peoples, saturation church planting, women and more. Those organizations that could benefit a wide range of ministries and tracks formed the resource networks or task forces. For example, Phill Butler's ministry, Interdev, formed the Partnership Development Task Force to help a wide variety of ministries work together to reach specific peoples. Likewise, Pete Holzmann headed up the Interactive Task Force to help all AD2000 participants use technology to foster better communication within and between the various networks and tracks. Most, if not all, of the networks and task forces will continue their cooperative efforts even though the movement that brought them into being has closed its doors.
National Initiatives
From the beginning, the AD2000 Movement was led by people who had grown up outside of North America. As a result, a major emphasis of its efforts was on mobilizing indigenous mission and church structures to find and reach every unreached people group within their own countries. Over 100 countries have started national initiatives as a result of the AD2000 Movement's efforts. The U.S. was slow to start, but its national initiative is now moving forward as Mission America.
Information Gathering and Distribution
From its inception, the AD2000 Movement set out to collect the Best information available on who the unreached peoples are and what God was doing to reach them. They used this information to mobilize both churches and mission agencies to focus their efforts on reaching these unreached peoples. The results have been spectacular. At GCOWE '95 in Seoul, Korea, the AD2000 Movement released, in cooperation with the Peoples Information Network, a list of unreached peoples under the title, The Least-Evangelized Peoples of the World. Following GCOWE '95, the AD2000 Movement launched Joshua Project 2000 Movement launched Joshua Project 2000 with a focus on reaching the unreached peoples with a population of 10,000 or more. Shortly after the launch of Joshua Project 2000 in November 1995, the first Joshua Project list of 1,739 unreached peoples was released in the May '96 issue of Mission Frontiers. This list was continually refined as new data became available.
Final Statements of the AD2000 Leadership Rev. Dr. Thomas Wang: Chairman, AD2000 Intl. Board
God has put you and me into this crucial hour before the return of His Son, Jesus Christ, with a definite purpose, the fulfillment of His Great Commission. Under God's loving mercy the AD2000 Movement was conceived and born during the preparation of the second Lausanne Congress in 1989. In a short span of one single decade the Movement has received acceptance and cooperation from Christ's global body and has been operating in over 100 countries of the world. Through its initiation, names like 10/40 Window, Joshua Project and Gateway Cities have become household terms among churches and mission agencies today. The AD2000 Movement has been ministering as a bugle-call to today's churches to take the Great Commission seriously and to fulfill the long-delayed task. God in history has raised up various movements as His instrument for various purposes. When the purpose is fulfilled, the the instrument must have the wisdom and the courage to die. And so it is with the AD2000 Movement. During its very first International Board meeting, the decision was made that the Movement is an organization would be dissolved at the end of the year 2000. But the spirit, vision and commitment of the Movement will hopefully continue to live, grow and be accomplished through churches and mission agencies worldwide. With the consent of both the International and US Boards, it was decided that a simple ceremony will be held on April 20, 2001 in Los Angeles (where the first formative meeting of the Movement was held back in 1989) to mark the formal closure of the organization of the AD2000 Movement. May God continue to bless the final round on world evangelization through His own way and in His own time. Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. (John 12:24)
Rev. Dr. Luis Bush: International Director, AD2000 & Beyond Movement
I rejoice with my two dear brothers to be part of his final and farewell message of the AD2000 & Beyond Movement. Much has been said and reported upon over the brief tenure of this Movement, with great praises and thanks are three-fold:
For the early acceptance and rapidly growing fellowship of leaders towards a church for every people and the Gospel for every person vision by the year 2000, both for geographic and functional purposes. This matrix was well blessed in many places around the world.
For each of the Praying Through the Window initiatives I-IV, with prayer participation moving from 21 to 40+ million people around the globe, plus many onsite prayer journey teams as well. The measured impact of this prayer is testimony of God's power through man's faithful prayer!
For the catalytic outflows of GCOWE '95 / Korea and GCOWE '97 / South Africa consultations, the fires still burning and advancing the flame edge among the unreached day by day.
Praises be to God! May it all continue, even increase, as God so leads and provides!

4. MOZAMBIQUE: REVIVAL IN THE WORLD'S POOREST NATION >From: Friday Fax <FridayFax@DawnEurope.net>
"Jesus healed many of the 10,000-strong crowd in northern Mozambique, so word traveled fast, by foot and canoe: 'Jesus is in Marromeu'. The crowds grew and grew, until there were more than for the President's visit. Jesus healed one woman who was completely blind and dumb. Her husband had left her, 'because she was good for nothing'. They all knew of their sin, they all wanted Jesus. Hundreds of them were baptised, even in pools full of leeches. Churches are springing up everywhere; in June 2001, we counted 1,200 new Christian churches. We ask ourselves: can Western Christianity reach the remote areas of this indescribably poor nation? The people here are born under witchcraft and syncretism, and know religious legalism from centuries of colonialism. Their cultural traditions are full of inefficiency and immorality. However, the catastrophic floods in early 2001 started a deep hunger for God in the refugee camps, and the Gospel is spreading like wildfire - even in Islamic regions, where, we were told 'you have to wait years for eve n a dozen converts'. Everyone, literally everyone, wants Jesus, and thousands bow their hearts before the King..." ___________________________________________>>>
5. NAGPUR, INDIA: PRAYER SUMMIT TESTIMONIALS >From: irm@multnomah.edu
* "My husband has been talking about the city, the vision for the city, all the way along but I did not share the same vision. At this Prayer Summit I came to catch the same vision. For the first time, I came to feel the Father's heart of God. I learned to seek the face of God. I was very, very tired before I came. It had been a lot of struggles and difficulties, as well as my sickness. Here, in the holy presence of God, I found such a peace and I was able to rest in it. God did cleaning in me, and I became able to forgive. He softened my heart. Now a fire is burning in my heart for souls. I had been in great discouragement, but God encouraged me. I have also experienced stillness and the holiness of God. Faith came. I understand we must humble ourselves and go and meet the other pastors. We must wait upon God and catch the heartbeat of God. God's heart is crying: O, People, people, people!" - Nagpur, India * "God has taught me many things at this Prayer Summit. He has impressed me about unity." - Nagpur, India * "A thought came to me: What would happen if pastors come together to pray? At this summit I have experienced freedom to go deep into the fellowship with the Lord. God spoke to me in a new way. I had been avoiding prayer but God gave me a new experience with Himself in deep prayer and in His presence. Where there is unity, God's presence will come." - Nagpur, India * "I was against the Prayer Summit. Because I had been badly hurt by pastors. I tried to avoid prayers. We were failing in prayer. But the Lord touched me at this Prayer Summit. God gave me a new vision. We must pray together." - Nagpur, India ___________________________________________>>>

7. MANY AFGHAN REFUGEES RESPONDING TO CHRIST'S LOVE >From: Missions Insider <insider@christianaid.org>
Afghanistan is the largest country on earth which has never knowingly admitted Christian missionaries. Orthodox Sunni Muslims have opposed all efforts to introduce Christianity within the country, and have never allowed any secret believers within the country to meet together in the name of Christ.
But many Afghans are now baptized Christians living outside of their native land, and the number is growing steadily as more and more refugees flee the country. Tens of thousands left for fear of U.S. bombs following the September 11 attacks in New York and Washington.
During the past year, 32 new churches have been formed in nearby Kyrgyzstan and 20 of them are made up primarily of former Muslims, some of whom are refugees from Afghanistan. Indigenous churches in countries that border Afghanistan on the north -- Uzbekistan and Tajikstan -- also have many former Muslims in their congregations, including refugees from Afghanistan.
Nawas Khan, of the Pushto majority, was treated kindly by native Christians in Pakistan and gave his life to Christ. He grew in grace and knowledge rapidly and soon became a zealous witness for his new-found faith within the refugee camps. Some responded to his message but others beat him unmercifully and left him for dead. Miraculously he recovered but had to leave Pakistan and go witness among Afghans in another country.
Numerous refugees have joined churches in India through love and kindness shown to them by evangelical Christians. One, Rahim Fazil, was formerly a minister in the Afghan government. He had become a believer and was baptized in the USA, then returned to serve his country. When he later fled to India with his family and was received with kindness by Christians in Delhi, his entire family gave their lives to Christ. They all became active in local churches.
Abdul Matin and his family were befriended by native Christians when they went from Afghanistan to Pakistan. They had to flee to China after he confessed Christ as Lord and Savior. They later moved into Hong Kong where he became a fervent witness for Christ among other Afghans, using video tapes to communicate the gospel to them.
Many refugees who have gone beyond neighboring countries have also responded to acts of kindness by loving Christians and are now professing Christians despite threats and persecution. Several churches in Holland, Australia, Canada and the USA have Afghan believers within their church families.
Of the believers who have dared to return to Afghanistan, few have survived. Hussein Attish was killed by his own family members. Another, Mohammed Anwar, was also killed. But before he gave his life he influenced his younger brother to believe. That young man became one of the few who survived as professing faith in Christ inside Afghanistan.
Local churches and many evangelical indigenous ministries that are sharing Christ with Afghan refugees are also praying that the day will soon come when some of those who are mature in the faith may return safely to their homeland as ambassadors for Christ. They ask other Christians to be praying also that new believers may go home without fear of being killed by orthodox Muslims who want to protect their land from people who have a different understanding of the truth of God.

8. KUCHING, EAST MALAYSIA: PRAYING FOR US >From: Madeline <megoh@tm.net.my>
Our church prayed for the situation in New York and America when we heard of the terrorists attack. We prayed that the leaders of America will have God's leading and direction in how they react. Pray for the Lord's vindication on the matter and that it will be a time when America will return to the Lord whole heartedly as a nation for God to Reign and Rule once more. We were all very touched by President George Bush's speech when he quoted Psalm 23. May the Lord be gracious to the President and protect him and shield him at this time to do God's Will. Give to Americans Lord a heart of forgiveness and mercy at this time and help them to be like Jesus in forgiving the enemy. May the Lord be gracious to America at this time. May Americans be filled with mercy and compassion on those who do the country harm. Pray for God's strength and love to fill each heart at this time and that it will be a time to seek God afresh for the nation.
Keeping your country in prayer. Sincerely in Christ, Madeline Goh, Kuching ___________________________________________>>>
9. ZAMBIA: PASTORS PRAYING FOR A NATION >From: "aaronmwale" <aaronmwale@zamtel.zm>
In shaping our nation in the direction of GOD and in wanting to see that we continue to have a Christian president and also have 70% M.P christians ,we have called for a 40 days prayer and fasting across our nation. This we are calling it ELECTION 2001 PRAYER IMPACT.In this election we are standing on GOD's word in the book of Daniel 2:21-22 "Yahweh changes times and seasons He sets up kings and deposes them....He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in the darkness."
This is being carried out on a chain prayer and fasting, so on each day we have people praying and fasting all over our nation. We have also Pastors fellowships and Intercessors groups coming together to pray for the same.We have a prayer plan as follows
SECTION 1:[OCT,1-10] TEN DAYS OF AWE Adoring GOD for His greatness, goodness and grace towards Zambia. SECTION 2:[OCT,11-20] TEN DAYS OF WOE Humbling ourselves in identificational repentance and pledging our undying loyalty to Christ. SECTION 3:[OCT, 21-30] TEN DAYS OF WAR Battling spiritual warfare with spiritual principalities afflicting our nation. SECTION 4:[OCT,30-NOV,9] TEN DAYS OF WATCH Petitioning to give us a truly Christ centered president, parliament and civic leaders who will crush false altars and restore order to the economy, justice system, party politics, media, health, education and other social spheres.
We strongly believe that when Zambians go to vote this year we will more or less choose the spirit principality over Zambia also, this is reason that we are so much concerned and called for this national wide fast to see to it that OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST CONTINUES TO LORD OVER ZAMBIA AS OUR PRESENT PRESIDENT DECLARED IN 1990. So all those reading this we request you to uphold us as Pastors ,Intercessors and the church at large and as a nation in prayer for this crucial year's elections. In 1990 our President covenanted this nation of Zambia to lordship of Christ but of course there is still a lot to be done in living to the same declaration.
Lastly we would be happy to hear from you pastors who are praying for us here. your words of wisdom will be highly appreciated and your few words of encouragement at such a time as this will be appreciated.even what you sense god saying for our nation will also be of great help as we are in this 40 days of prayer and fasting. God bless you Yours, Apostle Aaron Mwale: aaronmwale@zamtel.zm ___________________________________________>>>
10. GLOBAL CELEBRATION FOR WOMEN REPORT >From: "Joan D Bond, Womens Neighborhood Prayer, Inc." <wnpsa@juno.com> >From: "Winnie Bartel (E-mail)" <ewbartel@lightspeed.net>
Greetings to you from the Founding Partners of the GLOBAL CELEBRATION FOR WOMEN. September 19-21 has come and gone, but the SPIRIT CARRIES ON! We are basking in the glorious event where God truly met us - ministered to us - and moved us to CHANGE. It truly was "a momentous conference" - one which time will show set a benchmark for change.
Many emails and letters have arrived sharing things like: · my life has been changed forever…I was moved to get out of my comfort zone · my thinking has been deeply challenged and affected · the unity and faith of the leadership, I have never seen such before · this event exceeded my wildest expectations and I praise God · I honor you for the courage to carry on in the face of the terrorist attack
God truly met us at GLOBAL - with far greater impact than we could have imagined. With the events of the previous week, the URGENCY OF THE HOUR made a DEEP IMPRESSION on all of us. God got our attention big time. We praise God for the thousands of women who came despite immense fears and uncertainties. Despite immense difficulties, women came from 156 countries of the world. We know that thousands more wanted to come but were hindered by airline cancellations. We truly believe God has begun to raise up GLOBAL MINDED WOMEN OF VALOR. A new day has begun to dawn for women. A beautiful army is rising up to give HOPE that will impact the world.
With the immense tragedies of the previous days leading up to GLOBAL, this impacted our event in another major way. Our finances were deeply affected. With thousands of women not attending, this caused an immense deficit in funding income. Added to that, the cost of additional security at the Dome was quite substantial. Basically, all other costs remained the same whether we had 20 or 20,000 in attendance. There is over $300,000 in contracts that must be paid out as well as over $200,000 in loans that need to be repaid. As Founding Partners, we accept the fact that our ministry and personal expenses will never be reimbursed.
We have sought the Lord earnestly regarding this - never ever questioning His leading. We are looking at several avenues to cover this deficit. We therefore are coming to you asking if you might be willing to help us out.
First of all, would you pray for us! We need immense prayer for God's wisdom and favor in alleviating this deficit. That is most important!
Second, please pray about what you might be able to do or give to assist us financially. Would you be willing to send this letter or another fund raising letter out to your constituency or your friends or whomever you like - on our behalf? Perhaps you or your organization could collect funds and send them to us at GLOBAL CELEBRATION FOR WOMEN. Any size gift would be appreciated.
We know you are already committed to so much through your various ministries. We praise God for what you have been doing. We continue to stand amazed before God at what is being accomplished by so many women. One of the most powerful messages that came out of the GLOBAL CELEBRATION was the demonstration of unity, humility, and love between the leadership. God did bring us together to demonstrate this unity to the Body of Christ. The Founding Partners have been in dialog over the past weeks sharing earnestly that we want to continue this network of love and unity. We are committed to work hard at it. We will be meeting again in January. We will be in dialog as to what God might have us do in the future.
One of the commitments we have made is to continue the website. We will be expanding it to include much more information. We are only limited by the vision of what this possibly could become. This can be a very useful tool in the future. Please continue to visit the website for updates. We will be linking it to other networks.
On behalf of my 12 other Founding Partners, we want to thank you for all your love and support throughout the GLOBAL CELEBRATION. We couldn't have done it without you. We pray for you and thank God for your partnership. We thank you in advance for praying and shall await hearing a word from each of you. We love and appreciate you so much!

11. ONE THOUSAND CHURCHES MORE THAN EXPECTED >From: Friday Fax <FridayFax@DawnEurope.net>
"On the way to another conference, the pastors carefully count churches. We discover that over 3,000 churches have been planted, one thousand more than we thought. We consider a group of over fifty people to be a church. That normally means that it has as many members as can hear a pastor without a loudspeaker - typically 300 or more. We will soon have reached the point where there is a church in every village in central Mozambique and southern Malawi. It is true: Jesus is the only hope for Mozambique, the only salvation for many. The churches have also started taking in orphans. Jesus reveals himself to many through signs and wonders, visions and dreams. We have never seen such a harvest. How true it was when Jesus said 'blessed are the poor in spirit'. Jesus finds the lost sheep, and carries them safely in his heart for ever." 12. REPORTS: UNREACHED, PERSECUTED, OPPRESSED >From: Mark Kelly <MarkKelly@xc.org>
ANGOLA-- Rebel forces in Angola attacked a small town, killing more than 200 people and kidnapping more than 60 children. God proved merciful, however, and answered prayers for the children's safety. Within two months, all the children were returned safely. Christian workers asked believers to pray for a 30-member church in the town. Glorify God for hearing the prayers of his people and having mercy on these children! Ask him to heal the wounds of their ordeal. Ask him to empower this congregation and the other believers of Angola to bear powerful witness to God's grace.
ASIA-- The good news of God's love has spread quickly in some parts of Central Asia and Southern Asia since the collapse of communism, and training church leaders has become a pressing need. A Christian worker in one mountainous region asked believers to pray as he trained his team with Bible storying materials so they in turn could spread out to 35 locations to teach more than 1,700 church leaders needing help. Praise God for the way his Spirit has moved across the region since the collapse of communism. Ask him to make bold, effective witnesses of believers in this region. Ask him to prosper efforts to train church leaders. A Christian worker in Asia had been praying for an opportunity to witness to a professor who was closed to the gospel. The worker was shocked when the professor came back from a vacation outside the country and asked the worker to meet with her. The professor had received some Christian materials while on vacation and wanted to know more about Jesus! Glorify God for finding ways to touch even the most closed hearts! Thank him for sending this Christian worker to be there when the professor was ready to know more about Jesus. Pray that the professor would draw close to God's heart and become a bold disciplemaker.
CALCUTTA, INDIA-- Police in Calcutta, India, found about 500 human skulls and skeletons in a house after responding to a complaint about a foul smell. Officials believe they were for rituals of Tantra yoga, which uses human bones for rites to attain "siddhi" (salvation). Pray against the dark forces of Tantra that deceive people into believing salvation can come from ritual, especially at the cost of human life. Pray that the Light of God's love would drive out the darkness that keeps multitudes in India in spiritual bondage. Pray for the multiplication of the Kingdom across India.
CAMBODIA-- Though millions of Cambodians died at the hands of Khmer Rouge fighters between 1975 and 1990, the suffering opened many hearts to the message of God's love and forgiveness in Christ Jesus and God's Spirit has moved powerfully. Since 1990, the 200 believers that were meeting in 10 or 12 house churches have become 100,000 believers in 800 to 1,000 congregations! Shout to the Lord for the explosive growth of the church in Cambodia! Ask God to level the mountains before them so every Cambodian would glorify Creator God. Ask God to stir among your own people the way he has moved in Cambodia.
CHINA-- An American who spent a summer in China teaching English was amazed at how few Christians actually had Bibles of their own. She was moved to tears when one of her adult students asked permission to just touch her Bible. The American said she had never imagined anyone would be so eager for the Word of God. Thank God for China's earnest believers. Ask him to fill their hearts to overflowing with his joyous presence. Ask him to multiply many times over the number of Bibles available to believers in China.
A "theological construction" campaign has been launched in Nanjing and Shanghai, China, by the former head of the registered "Three Self" church. Theological construction is a fusion of Western liberal theology and communist dogma that puts a theology of works in place of justification by faith and the necessity of conversion. A significant number of young Three Self leaders have decided, at great personal cost, to reject Bishop Ding's thinly-disguised Marxism, sever connections with the Three Self Church and work with the unregistered house-churches. Stand in prayer against the spirit of political compromise. Ask God to open Chinese believers' eyes to the deceptions of "theological construction." Pray that they would stand firm for the truth of God's Word and continue to serve in the power of his Spirit.
People are accepting Christ by the hundreds in a major city in China, a Christian worker reports, and churches are overwhelmed as they try to train new believers. The worker asked Christians to pray that churches will be effective in discipling new believers so that they, in turn, can become trainers. Shout to the Lord for the miracles of grace he is working in Chinese hearts! Ask him to send his Spirit in great power among the churches and make them effective disciplemakers. Ask him to raise up great numbers of new Spirit-filled leaders for the churches of China.
CONGO-- When short-term volunteers tried to show the JESUS film in Kinshasa, Congo, they were met by one obstacle after another. Sound systems and VCRs blew up. One of the new videos went blank after 39 minutes. When the electricity failed in one location, a young man told the story of Abraham being tested to sacrifice Isaac. When he finished, an invitation was offered to those who had come to see the JESUS film but had only heard the story about Abraham and Isaac. Sixty-one people came forward to register decisions for Christ! Praise God for refusing to let the Gospel be frustrated by the Enemy's schemes. Glorify his name for these 61 new believers. Ask him to make them salt and light in Congo's turmoil.
GERMANY-- Three boys, ages 14 to 18, handcuffed themselves together and jumped to their deaths off a bridge between Reichenbach and Plauen, Germany. Police believe the three were members of a Satanic cult fulfilling a suicide pact. "As Europeans retreat further and further from their Christian roots, people try to fill the vacuum once filled by faith," one missionary said. "Satanism, the occult, cults and other medieval practices are returning." Grieve before God for these children, whose souls have been stolen by the Enemy. Pray that the Spirit of Almighty God would sweep across Germany and drive out the evil spirits that keep people in darkness.
NIGERIA-- Believers told Bible stories and showed the JESUS film in several villages of Nigeria's Hausa people group and were delighted when many people opened their hearts to Christ. Asked to return the next day, they saw many more accept Jesus as Savior and Lord. When people pleaded with them to return a third day, the workers agreed. The next day, however, a new village headman was waiting when they arrived. Influential leaders of the traditional religion were upset that so many had come to Christ. They had replaced the old headman and ordered the new one to tell the workers their Bible stories were no longer welcome. Praise God for the Hausa who gladly received the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ. Ask the Father to protect the seed that has been planted in their hearts and bring it to full fruit. Pray that opposing hearts would be melted and open to God's love.
PAKISTAN-- An appeals court in Pakistan upheld a death sentence against Ayub Masih, a 35-year-old Christian man who was convicted on false charges of blasphemy against Islam in 1998. He was convicted on the statement of only one complainant in a case that was never properly investigated. The complaint reportedly was filed to force 15 Christian families to drop a land dispute in Masih's village. He is being held in solitary confinement with no light, no toilet facility and no fan in a small cell where temperatures can reach 120 degrees F (49 C) during the day. This brother has suffered four years of detention under deplorable conditions, with no legal basis for his conviction. If Masih's conviction and death sentence are upheld by the Supreme Court, only international intervention and clemency from Pakistan's President will stop his public hanging. This is the first time a blasphemy case has reached the Supreme Court, which makes it extremely important, as no one has yet been executed for blasphemy in Pakistan (as the law decrees). It will establish a very bad precedent if this innocent man's conviction is upheld and he is put to death. Cry out to God on behalf of Ayub Masih and the multitude of other Pakistani believers who suffer for the name of Jesus Christ. Use the information below to contact Pakistan's President Parvez Musharraf and strongly but respectfully insist that Masih's conviction be reversed and that he be set free. Pass this information along to others and encourage them to do the same. President Parvez Musharraf, Chief Executive, Islamic Republic of Pakistan / Fax: 92 51 921 1018
ROMANIA-- When Christian workers in one Romanian town told Bible stories to more than 100 children of the country's unreached Roma (Gypsy) people group, many parents and grandparents crowded around to hear the stories themselves. When the JESUS film was shown in another town, more than 300 Roma people gathered to watch, amazed that "Jesus is speaking our language." The next morning, a Gypsy man drove his horse cart to a Christian worker's home. The man had stayed up much of the night, reading a Bible the worker had given him, and he wanted to talk about what he had seen in the film. Thank God for hearts among the Roma who hunger to know him. Pray that he would bring them the good news of deliverance from sin. Ask him to pour out his blessings on Christians who labor among the Roma.
RUSSIA'S FAR EAST-- Christian workers are looking for ways to take the gospel to unreached people groups who live on the northern Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East, many of whom lose their lives violently. More than 30 percent of all deaths among those peoples are violent deaths, and single young men account for four out of five violent deaths. Stand in prayer for the single young men of Russia's northern Kamchatka Peninsula. Ask God to break the forces of spiritual darkness that steal their souls before they have an opportunity to hear the good news of his love and forgiveness. Ask the Lord of the Harvest to send laborers to northern Kamchatka.
TIBET-- Gospel Radio appears to be successfully penetrating Tibetan culture. One Christian broadcast ministry, Words of Hope, reported receiving more than 18,000 personal responses in 2000, mostly in the form of letters, telephone calls, e-mails, and personal visits. The group, which partners with FEBA Radio's "Gaweylon" (Good News) program is building a center to train leaders for new churches that will be planted among the Tibetan people. Praise God for the way his Spirit is moving in Tibet! Ask him to prosper gospel radio efforts in the country. Ask him to bless Christian workers in the country and to raise up multitudes of new Tibetan believers.
UGANDA-- A Christian village woman of Uganda's Japadhola people group hurried a missionary along muddy, slippery paths to visit neighbors she had been praying for and witnessing to. As time grew short, the woman moved faster and faster. As they came to each home, the missionary shared a Bible story and every family member would pray to receive Christ. And each time the Japadhola woman would hurry off again, calling back over her shoulder, 'These people are very lost." "Join me in thanking God for our believers who have such a burden for their lost friends and neighbors that they will almost run to witness to them," the missionary said. "Ask God to keep our feet on the path to our lost neighbors and friends." Glorify God for hearts that are burdened for the lost. Ask God to let you understand how his heart breaks over his lost sons and daughters. (http://www.geocities.com/japadhola)
UNITED SATES-- Each citizen of the United States receives an average of 200 evangelistic offers each year. The cost for every person baptized in the US is estimated at more than $1.5 million. An estimated 530,000 ministers and 21,584 missionaries serve in the United States, compared to only about 40,000 U.S. citizens serving overseas as long-term missionaries.
VIET NAM-- A fortune teller in Vietnam used to consult a mountain spirit to learn who in his village would die and when. One night, the spirit told the fortune teller that his own wife was going to die. The following morning, he sought out a Christian to help him accept Jesus. As his wife lay dying last October, she saw a vision of her house in heaven and pleaded with her husband, "Never turn your back on God. I'm going to heaven first, but you must follow me." At her funeral, the ex-fortune teller told everyone in the village, "You should all believe in God, because he is real." Many people in the village came to Christ because of his testimony.

13. GLOBAL FASTING VIGIL >From: USAPRAY@aol.com
OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM REPENTANCE & FASTING VIGIL - November 2 - 4, 2001
With prayers drawn from Ezra 8:21-23 / Nehemiah 1:5-7 / Daniel 9:3-19 / Habakkuk 3:2
"Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, and seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions. So we fasted and entreated our God for this, and He answered our prayer." –Ezra 8:21-23
Repentance and Prayer Themes:
· To humble ourselves and seek God for the forgiveness of our sins and transgressions, and the pardoning of our iniquities.
· To pray for the grieving families and friends of the Sept. 11 victims, asking that the Lord visit, comfort, minister to them, redeem and heal them.
· To intercede for believers who have strayed to return to the Lord, to regain their “first love,” and to obey and wholeheartedly serve the Lord.
· To petition the Lord for the preservation all human life possible – unto salvation and His glory.
· To intercede that millions who do not yet know Christ would turn toward Him, both in the U.S. and around the world; that there would be a great harvest in the wake of this tragedy.
· To intercede for President Bush, Vice President Cheney and for all in authority; that the Lord raise up "spiritual statesmen"; in the Church and in the nation.
· To beseech the Lord for His protection, and for the exposure and thwarting of terrorist schemes, including hijackings, car and truck bombs, and chemical, biological and nuclear devices.
· To pray for our nation to maintain a biblical posture in its relationship with Israel and the Jewish people; for protection and unity in the believing Body of Christ in Israel and the Middle East.
· To intercede for the military chaplains, officers, troops and all engaged in Operation Enduring Freedom; for all medics, foreign aid workers and nationals ministering to victims and refugees.
· To intercede for all missionaries and believers facing oppression, persecution, arrest, imprisonment, torture or death worldwide, especially in Islamic states.
· To intercede for the alleviation of the suffering of refugees, for the tearing down of spiritual strongholds, for those enslaved in systems of deception and terrorism to turn from jihad to Jesus.

14. ARGENTINA: 300,000 CHRISTIANS PRAY FOR THEIR NATION >From: Friday Fax <FridayFax@DawnEurope.net>
On Saturday 15 September 2001, 300,000 Evangelical Christians gathered in Buenos Aires to pray for the end of the Argentine economic crisis, national and international peace and religious equality. The closing rally took place in front of the central obelisk in the capital. Despite the cold and rain, believers gathered in various squares throughout the capital, following National Evangelical Christian Council's (CNCE) call "Jesus Christ through all and for all". The rally exceeded the gathering of 11 September 1999, which had been Argentina's largest Christian event, attended by 150,000.

15. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE PERSECUTED CHURCH >From: Bob Sperlazzo http://www.topica.com/lists/ICD/
Sunday, November 4 (United States)
In countries around the world, Christians are persecuted, jailed and even killed for their faith. On SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4, the International Day of Prayer, you and your church will have the opportunity to serve the suffering Church by joining with millions of believers worldwide in praying for the safety and deliverance of Christians who suffer for their beliefs. Open Doors is offering a free International Day of Prayer kit, including a video, pastor's guide, bulletin insert, and other resources, to churches that want to participate in this important faith-building event. And while praying for Christians around the world, Open Doors reminds us that it is especially important to pray for believers in Middle East--small in number, but large in faith--struggling to hold to their beliefs in predominately Muslim countries. Visit the Open Doors website for more information.

Subj: IDOP update Date: Wednesday, 10 October, 2001 For: World Evangelical Fellowship's Religious Liberty E-mail Conference From: Mark Albrecht, Conference Moderator <MarkAlbrecht@xc.org>
Dear Friends, Here is some more information on the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP). As some countries preferred November 11th instead of the original date, November 4th, (due to national elections and other conflicts) IDOP will be held on these two consecutive Sundays as well as the entire week from November 4-11. Contact Christian leaders in your country if you are unsure about the date where you live.
There are two separate websites: The international site is <http://www.idop.org/>. Material is available there in English, French, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. For those of you without access to the Web, send an email to <IDOP@iobox.com> and request a copy of the information in "text only" format. Be sure to request a specific language.
In the U.S., the site is < http://www.persecutedchurch.org>; the date is November 4th. Below is a recent press release from the U.S. IDOP organizing committee in the United States which is relevant to all.

THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE PERSECUTED CHURCH NOVEMBER 4 & 11, 2001
REMEMBERING CHRISTIANS THROUGHOUT THE MUSLIM WORLD
Santa Ana, CA -- Christians in Pakistan, Indonesia, and other countries are reporting threats of retaliation from the United States response against terrorists and those representing their radical ideology. Although Christians and Muslims have interacted peacefully for the most part in Pakistan, there has been rising tension since the September 11 terrorist attacks. When asked if he felt extremists in Pakistan might attack Christians, one pastor explained: If they attack, we'll be among the first martyrs But we will not run anywhere. [Mort Rosenblum, Oct. 1, The Associated Press].
Over the past few weeks, U.S. citizens have been well informed about radical Islamic cells scattered throughout the world. Perhaps less well known are the scattered small cells of light in these same regions: Christians following Christ despite continuous threats of discrimination, imprisonment, and even murder. These threats have taken on a more intimidating tone in past weeks.
The current situation underscores our need to engage in timely intercessory prayer for our Christian family around the world. On November 4, 2001, over 100,000 U.S. churches are expected to join with thousands of churches in 130 countries to observe the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP). Before the first IDOP in 1996, most Christians in the United States and other free countries were unaware of the magnitude of Christian persecution. Noted scholar and human rights monitor Paul Marshall estimates that roughly 200 million Christians today face persecution (physical abuse, family separation, incarceration, and martyrdom) and nearly 400 million more face discrimination and restriction as a result of their Christian faith.
We, the board and partner ministries of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, implore you to join with us on November 4 in a day of remembrance and intercessory prayer for those who share our faith, but not our freedoms.
