1.  ZAMBIA: CITY-WIDE PASTORS FELLOWSHIPS
>From: "Aaron Mwale" <aaronmwale@zamtel.zm>

--->NPPNote: Having met with pastors in Zambia two years ago, it is a personal blessing to hear of these Pastors' Prayer Groups!  Our NPPN hope of a Global Network of National Pastors' Prayer Networks gets closer everyday.

Dear Phil Miglioratti,
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ even our soon coming King of kings.
Through the Missions Mobilization Network I came across your e-mail address and I felt that I should write you and explain what we are doing here as this may lead us to work together. I am working with Zambia Intercessory Network as the Executive Director, my ministry is apostolic. Now as a network, part of our vision is to facilitate the unity of Pastors in City-Wide Pastors Fellowships, because their unity is crucial to the bring of cities under Christ and city transformation. Together with them we mobilize the church to pray fervently for spiritual revival, church growth and community transformation by organizing strategic prayer events such as city wide prayer rallies, marches, prayer walks and prophetic prayer actions. We also together get involved in all night prayer meetings, prayer cells at all work places and now a 24 hour prayer watch. This is done from city to city, town to town and also from townships to townships. In my next letter, I will have some time to share with you of what the Lord is doing in some of these towns and cities we have been. We do hold spiritual warfare and Intercessory schools of ministry, prayer conferences for Pastors, Intercessors and other leaders of various church ministries. This has been very powerful. God's presence has been manifest in these meetings. So I would like to be part of the "Connections and Conversations."
Apostle Aaron Mwale, P.O.Box 90721, Luanshya, Zambia. Tel:  260-02-510003.

Since the last I have posted my last prayer request things stated going worse.  Most of would of heard of what went on in Chinhoyi. A mob loyal to President Robert Mugabe went on what was described as an "orchestrated" rampage in Zimbabwe yesterday, beating whites at random and injuring at least 10. The scene of the attacks was Chinhoyi, a town 60 miles northwest of Harare, on one of the main tourist routes to Mana Pools national park and Lake Kariba. Supporters of Mr Mugabe's Zanu PF Party massed in the streets, stoning cars carrying whites and attacking shoppers, stabbing one victim. Police told whites to stay out of the town and after the violence many white townspeople fled to nearby farms. Mr Mugabe has lost no opportunity to vilify whites in public and has encouraged his followers to invade 1,700 of their farms. Critics have said repeatedly that his racial rhetoric would eventually provoke mob violence in a country where race relations have been generally harmonious. The violence was apparently provoked by the arrest of 22 white farmers on Monday night.

Please pray that this current violence will be ceased by God. That God will remove the evil men stirring up this violence.  Pray that God will deal with the Mugabe's heart and turn him around.

Greetings, David & Belinda Smit, Vineyard Christian Fellowship Marondera

3.  2001: PRAY 'ROUND AFRICA
>From: Baptist Press Mailing List <trosson@sbcec.org>
>By Sue Sprenkle

Thousands focus on Africa during worldwide prayer event

ZANZIBAR, Tanzania (BP)--Three Muslim men sitting on some stairs smile and greet the group of women walking past. They are an odd-looking bunch. Three dress in traditional African clothing, complete with head-ties; the other five wear American-style clothes. As they walk the narrow streets of Zanzibar's "Stone Town," the group stops randomly and whispers among themselves before continuing on.

Again the women pass by the same men -- only this time, they are walking in pairs at different paces. Some stroll along leisurely, stopping to talk or look at the ornately carved doors. Others walk with soldier-like determination.

The third time past the stairs, the men ask if they are lost and need directions.

"No, we are just walking around taking in this part of town," one woman said. "We like this area."

The men stare back in amazement. No one likes this part of town. Every storefront invites patrons in for beer and dancing. Homosexuality is hidden in the back rooms while prostitutes openly sell their bodies. Tourists don't come to this part of town -- unless they are prayerwalking.

The women visiting Tanzania's island of Zanzibar joined hundreds of thousands across the continent and the rest of the world in praying for Africa Aug. 3. The special day set aside for prayer was celebrated through a variety of events, from prayerwalking to 24-hour prayer vigils to community-wide rallies.

The executive director of the Nigerian Women's Missionary Union joined the prayer team in Zanzibar. Every time Yemi Ladokun thought of people praying for her beloved continent, tears came to her eyes.

"Thank you, Lord, for bringing different nations together to pray," she prays. "The whole Christian world is lifting up prayer and focusing on Africa. This prayer effort is making a difference already simply by bringing so many people together for one common cause -- to turn Africa to You."

The women walking through Stone Town had an international flair to them. The team came from Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Virginia, Ohio and Florida. They spent four days on the island, praying with a unique approach. They sectioned off the island and circled each section seven times in prayer. The first six laps were spent praying for God's victory; the final trek thanked God for the victory He would accomplish.

Gay White, volunteer from Richmond, Va., said she was surprised to see the aloofness present in most of the people's eyes as she walked around praying for those who have never heard the gospel.

"They just don't have a clue about the one true God. They are taught one thing all of their life -- and it isn't the truth," she said about the Muslim island. "It is our responsibility to do something. Whether it is through witnessing, praying, giving or going, it is our responsibility."

The idea for a special day of prayer came after International Mission Board missionaries in West Africa gathered around a map of Africa to pray. As the group prayed for the needs of their continent, it just seemed too overwhelming. Africa needed more prayer support.

"2001 Pray Round Africa -- Yes" coordinators Anita Hunt and Sharon Pumpelly started working on logistics for the special event more than two years ago.

"Once you write down the needs of Africa, there's nothing to do but pray," Pumpelly said. "The situation is so much bigger than any of us. Human response to all of the famines, disasters and persecution will not save people's lives. God is the only one who can."

The goal was to have as many people praying in each country of Africa as possible and even more support around the world. More than a thousand volunteers from the United States as well as Africa and Europe responded to the call of praying onsite. Other Great Commission churches represented in Africa joined in promoting the special day of prayer, too, making it an event that transcended denominational lines.

Even more joined in by praying from their homes and churches. Christians in China were the first to bow their heads in prayer for the Dark Continent. A church in Spain invited the entire community to join them in prayer for the entire 24-hour period.

All around the world, people stopped to pray.

-- In Ghana, two summer missionaries rode their bicycles to small villages, praying. People in one small village are now attending local church services after seeing these young men bicycle to their village to greet them and pray.

-- Christians from the Tennessee State Prison for Women joined in prayer. They prayed 24 hours, one hour each on their knees in their individual cells.

-- Churches in the United States partnered with churches in Mombasa, Kenya.

Through e-mail the churches from the two continents connected and voiced prayer concerns. The Americans prayed in their homes and churches, while the Kenyans prayerwalked their own communities.

-- Silverdale Baptist Church, Chattanooga, Tenn., hosted a citywide event, reaching across denominational lines. Prayer clusters met in individual homes to intercede for Africa.

-- West African Baptist leaders left their homes to travel throughout Africa to pray. Leaders went to Zimbabwe, different countries in North Africa, Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania to pray.

-- The Xtreme Team, made up of college students, was organized just for the 2001-PRAY event. They backpacked into Marense villages in Burkina Faso to pray. It was originally thought that there were no Marense churches, but the Xtreme Team found a small church in one village.

The special emphasis on prayer for the continent brought attention from local African newspapers as well as television stations. In Uganda, the event was advertised on television while in many more countries it was on the radio. In Thyolo, Malawi, a reporter from the national newspaper attended the large prayer rally. At this particular rally, Great Commission believers from 20 different churches prayed together for Africa.

As prayer was lifted up throughout the world, the small group in Zanzibar stood at the eastern most point of Africa and faced west. They prayed for the continent, country by country.

"I realize that we are not going to change Zanzibar or any other place because we prayed," Pumpelly said. "I think what is going to happen is that all of us will be changed because we prayed."

4.  PRAYER RESOURCES, PLEASE...
>From: "Pastor.k.Titus Ananda Kumar" <aftchurch@yahoo.com>

I am from India. I am pastoring a word based, Christ centered and spirit-filled church.  We give utmost importance to the study and practice of God's word and intercessory prayer.  We have such a deep thirst for the word of God and to learn more about prayer.

But in countries like India we don't have much access to the sound teaching of biblical truths so really we are in a famine to hear God's word.

We are also financially not sound to purchase book and tapes from US which demands huge amounts of Indian currency and we couldn't afford for it.

We are financially poor but we would like to receive God's word.  So we kindly request you to provide us just a single copy of all your books and tapes for our entire congregation,  as a man of God it will be of great blessing to me personally and for my ministry and also to our entire congregation and many local pastors and other Christian workers who have contacts with us.  We can share it with others.

But as we are poor we couldn't pay for it at present. But please believe us when one day God bless us surely we will pay for it. We beg you to provide us single copies of your entire products, through that not only to me but our entire congregation will be blessed and many other local pastors who are my close friends, they are also very much interested in such sound biblical teaching of deep truths of the word of God. Please consider this favorably. Please believe us one day or another we will pay for it. Again we beg you to provide us with the word of God.

As we don't have personal internet access we couldn't download any of your materials available online. We will gladly receive and accept even the used spiritual materials by other Christian teachers also.

Please sent materials to the following address:

5.  NEWS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
>From: Assistcomm@cs.com
>At:  http://www.assist-ministries.com

Assist Ministries of Garden Grove, California, has announced that it is now operating a news service on its website - www.assist-ministries.com -- to provide the Christian community with news about what God his doing in His world.

"We have started the in-depth news section to keep people informed about the exciting and often disturbing occurrences that are taking place around the world," said veteran journalist Dan Wooding, founder of ASSIST Ministries and the head of the ASSIST News Service (ANS), which already provides an e-mail news service to some 2,400 Christian media outlets around the world.

Wooding, 60, who has been a working journalist for more than 33 years, has now assembled an experienced team of correspondents who are providing daily stories on missions, the persecuted church, entertainment and culture, HIV/AIDS, and general-interest features.  The team includes Michael Ireland, Mark Ellis, Dave Crampton, Noel T. Tarrazona, Herb Hall, Stefan Bos, Matt Turner, Dennis Daily and Ron Brackin.

Wooding has also filed stories in recent times from Israel, the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Russia and the United Kingdom, as well as interviewing people like Graham Kerr, the Galloping Gourmet, and Aida Skripnikova, the courageous Christian dissident who spent two separate spells in prison in Russia for her faith.  These stories are all on the website.

The website regularly carried stories from Open Doors USA, MOVIEGUIDE (r), International Aid, Wycliffe Associates USA, and OM Ships, as well as other ministries.

"We hope that people will log onto the site daily to get the news that they will not find in most secular media outlets," he said.  "Ken Hunt, our webmaster, has included pictures with most of the stories and also set up a search engine for older stories.  Our stories can be reproduced freely with the only stipulation that attribution be given to the ASSIST News Service when they are carried."

6. AFRICA: OPEN DOOR FOR EVANGELISM
>From:  Religion Today News Summary <newssummary@lists.crosswalk.com>

With renewed awareness of the AIDS problem in Africa, a more hopeful story is taking place. Congregations in sub-Saharan Africa are placing increased emphasis on evangelism and church planting, resulting in rapid growth of Pentecostal churches.  "African believers view the local church as a multiplication center," said Don Corbin, regional director.  "It exists to start other churches."

The Senegal Assemblies of God recently sponsored a five-day, open-air evangelistic rally near Dakar. More than 1,200 people attended each service and 300 responded to the invitation to accept Christ as Savior. "To make a total break from another religion and step forward in an open setting, takes the power of the Holy Spirit," said AG missionary Vern Finck.

Recent outreaches in five Ivory Coast villages have resulted in five new churches.  An evangelistic team traveled to the villages and presented Christian films, followed by a short salvation message.  More than 10,000 Nigerians have accepted Christ during evangelistic meetings conducted to assist 54 new congregations.

"This is the Lord's moment for Africa," Corbin said.  "It is a moment of divinely orchestrated opportunity for us because Africa is such a ready continent.  We have an open door for evangelism, and we want to take full advantage of that."

7. CHINA'S MAJOR HOUSE CHURCH LEADERS AGREE ON FIVE PRIORITIES
>From: Assistcomm@cs.com
>At:  http://www.assist-ministries.com

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE IN THE USA ONLY
Contact: Karen Yates at (949) 752-6600
** Information about release in media sources outside the USA is available upon request to Karen Yates at Keyates11@aol.com.

SANTA ANA, CA (ANS) -- Meeting at a secret location during the past few months, senior leaders of six house church networks with a combined membership of more than 30 million, have drawn up a list of the "five critical priorities" for the church in China.

The five priorities were leadership development, basic Bible teaching for members, Sunday school teacher training, global missions, and social outreach to the new 150 million migrant workers in China.

"What is even more important than these priorities is the new spirit of unity among the different groups. This is the first time we have started to work substantially together in over 20 years," said one leader from the Born Again movement.

The first two priorities, leadership development and basic Bible teaching, have been the focus of all house church movements during most of the last two decades. Now house church leaders are calling for input from Western teachers to receive better training in theology and management.

"We also need to teach a concept of servant leadership to these leaders, as many of them are too powerful and too busy, refusing either to delegate responsibility or look after their families," said a visiting lecturer. Basic Bible teaching for members is still a challenge because the constant streams of new converts are often discipled by people who are new Christians themselves.

But the other three priorities are new.

"These other priorities reflect a growing maturity among the house churches that Christianity is not just about leaders and converts, but the children, the needy, and the unreached outside China," said a China watcher based in Hong Kong. Leaders of the movements openly repented of "neglecting our children."

Chinese law forbids religious instruction to anyone under 18, but these leaders have said, "We must obey God and make more efforts to teach the Scriptures to the young, rather than just expect them to pick everything up by attending the church gathering."

Interest in global mission is a recent feature of the house church vision.

"If the Holy Spirit lets us, we must share this revival if we can, and we see areas of the world like, for example, the Middle East, where Chinese are more welcome than Western missionaries, so we must awaken and send our evangelists abroad," explained a house church leader from Anhui province.

Pouring into China's cities at the rate of 30 million a year are peasants forsaking the land in search of work. Often they are poorly treated in the cities, living in shantytowns and preyed upon by gangs and thieves. China's house churches are convinced that by targeting this needy group, a "second boom" in the number of converts will occur.

"I believe the Lord is tearing millions away from their village religions, bringing them to towns where they will listen to the claims of Christ for the first time in their lives," said a Little Flock leader. "This is a great opportunity for the gospel."

Not all of China's house church Christians belong to trans-provincial networks of churches that form these "movements." Millions also belong to independent local fellowships. But it is the network house churches that tend to draw the most persecution, as the government is frightened of anyone organizing outside their control.

In the words of a house church movement leader, "Our task is not to dialogue with the government in order to survive -- it is to dialogue with God and each other and spread the revival!"

China has the world's largest number of Christians, with estimates ranging from 60-90 million.

>From: USAPRAY@aol.com

Intercessors for America / On Watch in Washington

CHRISTIAN WORKERS DETAINED IN AFGHANISTAN Christians in the U.S. and other countries are asking for prayer that eight Christian relief workers including two Americans and 16 Afghan nationals will be released safely after almost three weeks of imprisonment in Afghanistan for sharing the Gospel.  In addition to the two Americans, four Germans and two Australians were among the foreign detainees, who along with the 16 Afghan nationals could face the death penalty for sharing their beliefs, under Islamic law.  Taliban officials have repeatedly denied requests by U.S., German and Australian consular officials to visit the detainees.  Pray for the health and speedy release of our brothers and sisters.  Pray that the Lord would comfort and encourage them, and give them strength for their trials.  Pray that this would glorify our Father in heaven.

PHILIPPINE LEADERS ASK FOR HELP FOR FAMILIES OF PASTORS AND CHRISTIAN WORKERS KILLED IN HOTEL FIRE - Pastor Dan Balais, Coordinator of Intercessors for the Philippines, and Bishop Efraim Tendero, National Director of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches, have alerted us to the need for financial
assistance to meet short-term funeral expenses and long-term needs to care for the children left as orphans when their parents were killed in last Saturday's fire in the Quezon City Manor Hotel.  At least 69 of some 78 people who died, and 24 or more of those who were injured were pastors and church workers attending a one-week evangelism conference sponsored by the Texas-based Don Clowers Ministry.  Most victims died of suffocation and smoke inhalation as they were trapped inside their rooms with iron bars covering their windows.  Arson investigators indicated that the fire was cause by electrical short-circuiting, possibly in the air-conditioning system.
IFA, long-associated with Pastor Balais and others coordinating Intercessors for the Philippines, will be happy to receive and pass along tax-deductible donations to assist the relatives and children.  Credit card donations can be made by calling 800-USA-PRAY, or via IFA's secure eBookstore / Contributions site at www.ifa-usapray.org or www.ifabooks.org.   Please note that your contributions are for IF Philippines.

NATO OKS DEPLOYMENT OF 3,500 TROOPS TO MACEDONIA NATO authorized the deployment of 3,500 allied troops to Macedonia, hoping the mission to collect and destroy rebel arms will move Macedonians and ethnic Albanians toward reconciliation.  The full deployment will include several hundred U.S. troops focusing on limited logistical duties.  The deployment is to be led by Britain with about 1,800 troops.  Approximately 9,000 Americans remain on duty in the very volatile Balkan region 500 in Macedonia, 5,000 in Kosovo and 3,500 in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

UN RACISM CONFERENCE REFUSES TO ADJUST LANGUAGE ON ZIONISM; US TO BOYCOTT OR SEND LOW-LEVEL DELEGATION The UN World Conference Against Racism, which begins Aug. 31 in Durban, South Africa, will not change its controversial topics despite pressure from the U.S.  A South African official stated the conference would still feature talks on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as well as African demands for slavery reparations in a proposed convention conflict.  A draft conference declaration still equated Zionism with racism -- one of the United States' key objections.  Secretary of State Colin Powell responded with statements of either boycotting the conference or sending a lower-level delegation.  South African Foreign Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma claimed "it was unrealistic to expect delegates not to discuss these issues."

11.  MOROCCO: PRAYER JOURNEY REPORT
>From: RArcher821@aol.com

Report on Seeking God: A Call for Blessing in Morocco, April 1-8, 2001

by Gabriel McReynolds,Chairman

Our deepest thanks to all of you who prayed for and participated in the recent week of prayer for Morocco. The remarkable success of the event showed God’s favor upon us and upon the people of Morocco. Sponsored by St. John Anglican Church of Casablanca, the event brought together hundreds of Christians representing almost 100 churches (see accompanying list) and 28 nations. It enjoyed the support of the British Embassy and was favorably received by the Moroccan government.

A Week of Blessings
The week began in Casablanca with a Team Leaders meeting on the evening of Sunday, April 1 followed by a Day of Orientation on Monday. That morning we were welcomed by Mr. Alan Michael, the British Consul of Casablanca. We heard a message on prayer from Mr. Ben Jennings who is author of the book The Arena of Prayer and a member of the World Prayer Advisory Council.

Our main teacher and facilitator was Mr. Steve Hawthorne, director of Waymakers, a prayer resource organization. He co-authored with Graham Kendrick the book Prayerwalking, still the main resource on that subject, and was one of the organizers of the Reconciliation Walk. www.reconciliationwalk.org

Over 260 participated in the orientation for their three-day prayer journey. After lunch, the whole group was treated, by invitation of the Governor of Casablanca, to a tour of the magnificent Mosque of Hassan II, one of the largest mosques in the world.

We ended the day with a time of prayer for the teams. That evening and the next day they went out by plane, train and tour bus to many different areas of the country to quietly pray as they walked the streets of cities and villages.

Regarding the prayer journeys, organizer Steve Hawthorne said, "Because we all primarily prayed biblical blessings, seeking for God's purposed goodness to come forth, we found ourselves easily focusing on Christ and at the same
time engaging in open face-to-face friendship with the people, praying with many of them in Jesus' name."

One journeyer related, "I wish you could have been on the bus to hear the thousands of prayers offered each day. I wish you could have experienced the thrill of singing about Jesus as we rolled along. We prayed in Fes... it was there that we spent the most time among the people - eating what they eat, smelling what they smell, visiting their homes, walking where they walk."

Everyone assembled together again on Friday in Marrakech for a Palm Sunday weekend prayer and worship assembly featuring British songwriter and worship leader Graham Kendrick (Shine Jesus Shine, Knowing You). We were joined by many others from both inside and outside Morocco to number over 400.

A Warm Welcome
On Friday evening, we were welcomed by a delegation which included Mr. Abdellatif Abdouh, the Mayor of Marrakech, Mr. Anthony Layden, the British Ambassador and Mr. Mohammed Zkhiri, the Honorary British Consul of Marrakech.

Regarding his involvement, Mr. Layden commented, "When the Seeking God committee approached me about their plans to invite members of Christian communities to pray together for Morocco, I readily agreed to do anything I could to help, and assured them that no difficulties would be made by the Moroccan authorities. Sure enough when we called together on the Governor of Marrakesh, he warmly welcomed the group."

"It is an exciting time to be here as Ambassador, and I was delighted to be able to share my pleasure in the "Morocco experience" with the participants in this conference.  I hope many of them will visit Morocco again!"

The Moroccan delegates expressed great appreciation and warmth towards us. The mayor said that "the beautiful city of Marrakech was made even more beautiful by our presence." Later that evening; Mr. Zkhiri hosted a dinner at his beautiful restaurant in the old medina. Members of the steering committee and the delegation attended and were joined by Mr. Abdeslem Bekrate, the General Secretary of the Wilaya (Province).

During the weekend, we heard reports from members of the different teams about people they met during their prayer journeys and specific requests and blessings that the Lord led them to pray from the Scriptures. These were intermingled with songs, choruses and prayer songs which thematically fit in with our prayers and blessings. It was truly a unique experience.

We also placed special prayer emphasis on the following areas: welfare of H.M. King Mohammed VI and his government, peace and prosperity for the country, health & education, justice, family life, relief from the drought and peace in the Middle-East.

One participant recounts, "Before I came, the Lord had given me several Śking' scriptures to pray. I didn’t really know or care about your king, but now I've prayed so much for him, I feel I know him! I got a picture of him to take home and continue praying. I've heard others say the same. It was wonderful to pray at the palace for the king."

The weekend culminated with a Palm Sunday morning celebration featuring a powerful message on the prophetic significance of Palm Sunday. Mr. Hawthorne spoke about how that event gives us hope for a later and greater visitation of Jesus, the King of Glory. Our worship keyed on the Palm Sunday psalm (Ch. 24) which combines the themes of seeking God, receiving his blessing and welcoming him as King. We also enjoyed a praise procession led by the children singing" Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"

With the desire to bless the country financially as well, we raised US $4000.00 through a freewill offering to be donated to selected children's charities in four different cities.

A Million Blessings?
Some of you responded to the appeal during the weeks leading up to the event to join the participants in praying blessings for Morocco throughout the week. There was even a link at our website to register a pledge to pray blessings. We believed that this would help motivate us to pray and get a clearer sense of the abundance of prayer that was being offered up.

The idea was somewhat experimental in nature and proved to be hard to assess. With the data available, we conservatively "blesstimate" approximately 50,000 blessings. We appreciate each one of you who sought to pray regularly and purposefully with us. It is clear that there was a unique and abundant outpouring of prayer which continues even now.

It is encouraging to read some of the highlights among those who participated. Here are a few examples:

"[My husband] and I had a wonderful time, we feel truly blessed, and our hearts are with Morocco and its beautiful people...our friends and relations who were praying for us while we were in Morocco are continuing to pray for that country and for everyone there."

"It was a life changing experience for my wife and I.  We pray differently and definitely want to go back to Morocco."

And from the organizers:

"...thanks again for a marvelous job well done.  It was truly an eye-opening delight to take part in Bless Morocco.  I sensed that God did something special in the heavenly realm." - Ben Jennings

"The agenda of blessing, far from being merely a matter of cultural sensitivity, actually opened up a powerful dimension of prayer which I believe not only expressed God's heart for the nation, but also encouraged a deeper spirit of humility and servanthood in those who were praying.  I came away sensing that we had expressed a prototype of something that could release God's blessing in numerous other places around the world." - Graham Kendrick

"I had the sense that as we literally walked together in prayer through the cities of Morocco that we were paving the way for the people of Morocco to trust the living God to fulfill all of the promises that the prophets have spoken about them. We were warmly welcomed by Moroccan leaders. But we felt that our worship on Palm Sunday was itself an outcry of welcome to Christ Himself to bring forth the sure blessings of Abraham among each of the peoples and cities of the land."
- Steve Hawthorne

"The magnitude of the outpouring of people and wide representation of the Body of Christ at this event speaks of two things; first, there is a keen level of desire on peoples hearts to be involved in the Muslim world; the second (this is the very reason for the first), God is doing a new thing -using the everyday people from local churches as seed planters of prayer to break up fallow ground in the nations." - Christopher Stanton, US Coordinator

Our deepest thanks again to all of you who cared and shared in this event. In the evaluation forms, we received overwhelmingly positive feedback and interest in a similar event in the future. The organizers agreed that we should do some kind of follow up event, but it is presently not clear as to when and in what form. We invite you to seek God with us regarding this matter.

12.  NEPAL: COVENANT FOR THE NATION
>From: Friday Fax <FridayFax@DawnEurope.net>

In the tense days surrounding the murder of Nepal's Royal family, a number of the nation's Christian leaders met to discuss the future of Christianity in the Kingdom. They issued the following declaration: "We, the Church leaders of Nepal, commit to partner together in the power and unity of God's spirit to achieve saturation church planting throughout Nepal, including our current activities of evangelism and discipleship. We will undertake a project of information gathering and research in order to obtain the most accurate picture possible for the harvest field and harvest force. We commit to use this information as God enables us to effectively plant healthy, holistic and reproducing churches within geographic, linguistic and cultural reach of every person in Nepal. We agree to make every effort to abide by the biblical guidelines of mutual respect and common purpose in this pursuit."   Source: Steve Spaulding, e-mail stevemspaulding@cs.com

13.  ANDES MOUNTAINS:
PRAYER, MEDICAL TEAMS, THE BOOK OPENS CLOSED DOORS
>From: Missions Insider <insider@christianaid.org>
>At http://www.christianaid.org

While native missionaries visiting towns in a jungle valley in Peru in years past had been routinely rejected by the villagers, prayer and visits by medical teams have finally opened the doors.

A team of four Christian workers from the Ashaninka and Nomatsequenga tribes and a brother from the Andes Mountains recently visited five villages in the area, which is frequented by terrorists.

"These villages have resisted the gospel for years," says Peter Hocking, director of Segadores, the sponsoring missions group, adding that missionaries had actually been thrown out of the villages.

However, medical trips to two of the villages, along with prayer support, enabled the team to make an impact for the Lord with a screening of a film on the life of Christ, as well as preaching.

"Many hearts were receptive," Hocking reports. "Twelve people made decisions for Christ. Pray that these new believes may persevere in the Lord." The team is planning to visit other villages in the valley in October.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
"More than one-third of the population of India is illiterate according to government reports. God is helping us penetrate the darkness of illiteracy by opening schools and children's hostels in several villages. As a result, hundreds of illiterate children have learned to read and write. They love to read the Book of books, which sheds light in their lives as well as on their villages! Several villages which were formerly closed are now inviting us to come and open schools. Pray for us to touch even more villages."

15.  MINI-REVIEW: "MISSIONS IN THE THIRD MILLENNIUM"
>From: Larry S Kendrick <lskendrick@juno.com>
>Reviewed for NPPN by Larry Kendrick, Exodus World Service

"Missions in the Third Millennium - 21 Key Trends for the 21st Century," (Paternoster www.paternoster-publishing.com) by Stan Guthrie - former editor of "World Pulse" and "Evangelical Missions Quarterly" magazine (now Associate News Editor for Christianity Today).   Originally a missions class Stan taught at Wheaton College, this expanded version of Stan's notes is recommended reading for all who want to stay aware of foreign mission trends interlinked with issues facing "home missions."

Having been immersed in Pulse and EMQ for so many years, the identifying of these 21 trends came easy to Stan, who articulately explains them so that even we at the grass roots of missions involvement can gain insight.

The 21 trends are organized under the headings of:
The Home Arena, The Strategic Arena, The Overseas Church Arena, and the Global Arena.

With all the horror we experienced in NY, PA & DC, this book is a good way to get refocused on the mission we're called to pray for and be involved in.  Reviewed by Larry Kendrick, Exodus World Service, Bloomingdale, Illinois.
