A new book just arrived in our office:
Ambassadors of Hope
How Christians Can respond to the World's Toughest Problems
Inter-Varsity Press
http://www.ivpress.com
Author Robert Seiple believes "we have an amazing opportunity for the world to
see a faith in action, a faith that works.
He is just one of many voices speaking to the Church, both in American and
across the globe, calling us to see the very problems we disdain and even fear
as grand opportunities to authenticate the Gospel.
He states (and stabs...) "We who are Christians believe that our faith offers
solutions to some of the intractable conflicts in the world. Why, then, do we
seem to have so much difficulty articulating this truth, bearing witness to the
hope that lies within us? Why do we appear to be so passionate about the world
that "God so loved" and yet make such anemic efforts in engaging that world? Why
does the greatest message ever delivered to humanity reside in so many people
with so little tangible relevance and so little impact on the rest of the world
in which we live?"
Tough but true words.
Business (meaning our version of churchianity) as usual will not get the job
done ... May the Lord review, revive and revise His Church - pronto!

1. NPPN - KIEV: CITYWIDE
PRAYER STRATEGY
>At: http://www.praykiev.org>
.
Here is a summary of an extremely exciting meeting we had regarding the
feasibility of a citywide cooperative prayer strategy in Kiev
Attendees: A small group, but representing approximately ten
different ministries and churches. At least eight other ministries expressed
interest, but unable to attend.
Consensus: All of us pray, we pray for our city, most of us have
prayer time with our ministry teams, but almost none of us have any type of
strategic prayer targeting the city and its various needs. Even though there
certainly are already some prayer groups and strategies existing, there does not
seem to be any coordinated effort to join ranks for greater effectiveness.
Based on Gods call for spiritual unity, and based on the
overwhelming depth and intensity of spiritual oppression and darkness over this
city, there is a critical need for such a ministry if we are to see God move in
extraordinary ways in this area.
Possible levels of strategy: It has been over four years since
any serious prayer focus has been initiated on a large scale. Subsequent
activities have been more event centered rather than movement centered. Events
such as crusades and rallies have progressively
lost effectiveness and appeal to the point that few people support them. Other
attempts have been started, but never followed through with. Any type of prayer
movement we might try needs to focus on something other than events and more
meetings. Most people have so much going on that they cant keep up with their
own ministry ideas.
However, there can still be a comprehensive prayer strategy that will
have eventual massive impact on the city, IF we will commit ourselves to it. We
see it operating on perhaps five levels or layers that could operate
independently of each other but also in concert with each other. Together they
would provide a way of regularly saturating every part of the city with ongoing
prayer.
1. Personal prayer and small group gatherings concentrating
on the immediate area where that person or group lives/meets. Hundreds, perhaps
thousands of houses of prayer scattered across the metro area. Each individual
or group would take personal responsibility for praying for that specific
neighborhood.
2. Ministries, churches, Christian training institutions,
etc. would take responsibility for an area or region of the city where their
buildings or facilities are located, and would encourage their respective
members or students to be actively involved in praying in that region on a
regular basis.
3. Media strategy using the internet to provide regular
prayer requests and brief Bible study ideas, both of which could be used for
personal direction as well as training for prayer groups no matter the size.
In addition, develop a comprehensive website to be accessed by believers world
wide, by which hundreds of thousands of intercessors could be engaged with us
in praying for Kiev. This would include updated prayer requests, information
regarding various participating ministries, and a large variety of virtual
prayer walks based on theme, territory, people groups, and so forth.
Also, share our vision and strategy with other international prayer strategies
such as Global Harvest, PrayWORLD, Lighthouse Movement, National Pastors Prayer
Network, and others, asking them to join us in praying for our city and nation.
This in itself would give exposure of our prayer strategy to perhaps millions
of believers worldwide. That, in turn, could mobilize prayer and Bible study
groups, visiting prayer walking teams, and even involve multitudes in virtual
prayer walks via our website.
4. Occasional major events that bring all Gods people
together ---- maybe one or two a year ---- things like concerts of prayer,
massive prayer walks, praise gatherings, training conferences, international
prayer leadership conferences, etc. Done very rarely, but well planned and at
strategic times.
5. Administrative leadership structure that could perhaps put
a key leadership person in each of the major regions of Kiev ---- such as Podil,
Pechersky, Obolon, etc. This person would serve as coordinator and liaison with
other groups and would provide assistance within that region to individuals,
groups, ministries, churches, and institutions, and would help motivate the
believers in that region to target their area and saturate it with prayer. They
could also possibly serve as part of a coordinating committee to give direction
and encouragement along with a possible key individual who might serve as
general director or some such title.
The Next Step: We unanimously agreed that . . . .
1. We believe God is clearly in this, and that He is directing us to
develop some form of cooperative prayer network. Our city is at stake.
2. We need to establish a central driving vision for why we feel the
urgency to do this in the first place.
3. We need to develop some concrete ideas or specific steps for
initiating the project.
4. We need to enlarge our group to encompass as much participation
as possible both in the English and Russian sectors of ministry.
5. We need to have a quick follow up gathering in order to not allow
this vision to die down.
What about you? Based on what you have read in the earlier letter from
Bob Tolliver, and based on this report of our recent meeting, tell us your
thoughts. Is this something that interests you? Would you be willing to
participate in some way?

3. INTERNATIONAL PRAYER COUNCIL
REPORTS
>From: "Etienne Piek" <office@ipcprayer.org>
TRANSFORMATION AFRICA
273 Towns /cities in South Africa took part in the Day of Prayer for Africa
2 May 2004. We are convinced that like the previous year, many events took
place in Churches and other venues that we are unaware of.
The general feeling this year from all around the country was that the event
was a much deeper experience and that the presence of the Holy Spirit was
tangible. Church leaders from different denominations got together for the first
time in some cases and people from different racial and cultural backgrounds
took hands and humbled themselves before the Lord. Reports came in of weeping
men, women being restored, youth blessing the older generation and many other
wonderful things happening.
The highlight of the day was when everyone prayed the Prayer for Africa
based on the Lords Prayer at 15:00. The feeling that the whole of Africa was
praying at the same time, made it a God filled experience.
In Africa we have had confirmation of Prayer events from every of the 56
countries except Sao Tome & Principe. The amount of participating venues went
way beyond our expectations. Many more towns and cities prayed together than
what was anticipated. We can estimate that far more than 20 million people
prayed on 2 May 2004 in Africa. The overall feeling across the continent was
that 2 May 2004 was a turning point in the history of the continent. In many
countries there was a breakthrough in Church unity. Miracle upon miracle is
reported. Info:

FREETOWN, SIERRA LEONE: 1000 ATTEND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
The conference which is the second of its kind kicked off in the evening of
the 13th of July, 2004 with goodwill messages presented by various ministries
and organizations, while Rev Francis Mambu spoke on the same night on the need
for the restoration of God's Glory in the church.
There were over 1000 men and women ministers, pastors and church workers
representing over 133 Church denominations, para-Church ministries and
organizations in attendance. The Pastors were either national or representatives
from the following countries: Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Cameroon, Nigeria and
Zambia. The hunger for the word of God among the ministers was very pronounced,
and the depth of teaching was very high.
Adequate time was spent in prayers for the transformation of Sierra Leone,
the West African nations, Africa and for revival and restoration. Announcement
was made about the IPC vision and the planned West African regional Conference
scheduled for November in Accra, Ghana. There was a very loud and thunderous
ovation on the last but one day of the conference when it was announced that the
World Vision, had sent Bibles and agricultural seeds for distribution to all
ministers attending the conference.
Participants left with memorable impressions. Most, if not all participant
expressed desire to participate in the 2005 conference in the same venue
INDONESIA: STUDENT MOVEMENT
Praise the Lord for his continued grace and mercy as He makes inroads for
the mission movement into Indonesia. The first Student Mission Movement, or
Student Harvest, which was held in December is having an ongoing impact. The
mission education movement continues to grow and influence the churches within
Indonesia with many more mission mobilizers being raised up. The prayer
movement focusing on prayer for the UPGs has spread to approximately 35 regions
within the Churches and cell groups, and there has been an increased awakening
of many Prayer Mobilizes for UPGs. Praise the Lord, He is beginning to be
praised and worshiped amongst the Indonesian UPGs.
Your involvement through prayer support is having one of the biggest
influences in the history of the mission movement in Indonesia, home to the
largest Moslem population in the world. Lets continue to pray in unity for the
mission movement in Indonesia, for ongoing spiritual breakthrough through
prayer, praise and prophesies.
Pray for the UPGs that have no missionaries working amongst them (In
Indonesia there are 28 that still have no workers). Pray that God will rise up
workers for the mission fields.
CONFERENCES AND PRAYER INITIATIVES
Intercessors for Zimbabwe monthly day of prayer for the nation will be
on Saturday 14 August 2004. The venue will be Highlands Presbyterian Church.
The time will be 9:00am to 12:30pm. Info: ifz@zol.co.zw

IPC CONSULTATION, THAILAND
John Robb, Chair of the IPC, writes:
During our International Prayer Council Executive meeting in Switzerland in June
we made steady progress with good unity and clarity in planning the program for
the IPC Leadership consultation for Thailand, which will take part in
conjunction with the Lausanne Forum for World Evangelization. We are expecting
about 70 in all including regional prayer network leaders, many of our Board of
Reference members and Executive Team, plus others who are providing key
leadership in other aspects of the global prayer movement. Our theme will be
"Globalizing Prayer, Revealing His glory" since all we do in the prayer movement
is really ultimately about the glory of the Lord and its being revealed to the
nations.
Please pray that all of those connected with the IPC and for those of us
planning and participating in this event will experience a deeper revelation of
His glory and be able to mobilize prayer to this end worldwide. An important
part of this effort for 2005 will be the Global Day of Prayer which will involve
a 24 hour, globe-girdling prayer effort for the transformation of the world and
our respective nations. Potentially hundreds of millions will participate,
hopefully involving every nation on earth. Satellites, Internet, TV and radio
will be used to make a six hour broadcast possible that anyone virtually
anywhere will be able to access. Already there is a groundswell of support and
involvement in Africa building for this event after the whole continent (56
nations) took part in their Africa Transformation day on May 2.
Bob Bakke, who is part of the IPC and has arranged the Nationally Broadcast
Concert of Prayer in the USA with connections throughout Latin America, is busy
organizing the broadcasting part of the Global Day of Prayer. Pray for him and
his team for:
1 Favor in the Christian and secular media and with the major networks for the
Global Day of Prayer
2 Mobilization of Christian leaders in the various church, mission and prayer
networks around the world to get involved quickly and take leadership to make it
happen
3 Development of broadcasting teams including program and technical leaders
for every continent
4 For the funding that will be needed, now estimated at between $4-5 million
As Victor Hugo once said, "There is nothing so powerful as an idea whose
time has come." We all have that feeling about this Global Day of Prayer which
we believe will usher in an ongoing process of global prayer and ongoing
cooperation by prayer movements and networks worldwide for many years to come.
Please help make this happen through your strong and faith-filled praying.
2004 FORUM ON WORLD EVANGELIZATION
Praise God for clear evidence of growing interest, expectancy and
involvement around the world in the Forum. LCWE International Director David
Claydon reports that scholarships have been awarded to nearly 300 participants
from Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and South Asia. We are grateful for
the many donations sent in to assist this programme that allows emerging leaders
from those parts of the world where the church is growing rapidly, join with
leaders from around the world to reflect on how to take the gospel to those who
still have not heard or have been unresponsive. Please continue to pray:
For Gary Barnes as he goes to Thailand to finalize security details for the
Forum. Please pray that these meetings go well and that all the necessary
resources will be provided.
For all those who are involved in the organization of the Forum, for daily
refreshing and enabling from the Lord.
For the LCWE International Leadership.
For seed money to enable Lausanne to publish the material which comes out of
the 31IG's.
Lausanne is busy compiling stories of Gods miraculous intervention through
prayer in bringing the Gospel to different people groups. If you have any of
these stories to share from your own regions, please send them to: gweldon@ozemail.com.au

4. GLOBALIZING PRAYER -
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
>At:
http://www.globaldayofprayer.com/
THE VISION -
It is time now for Gods people to gather again in persistent, united prayer.
What better way to unite in prayer than to consecrate ourselves to seek God for
ten days, as Jesus first followers did, culminating on the day of Pentecost?
The movement has grown from one stadium of 45,000 three years ago, to 2,000+
stadiums and 22 million last May, not counting the National Day of Prayer
figures for the US. We are now claiming Pentecost Sunday for the next five
years (2005-10) to grow this into the hundreds of millions. Stadiums all over
the world have already been rented for Pentecost.
THE BACKGROUND -
After listening to John Guernsey sharing about the transformation process taking
place in Cali Colombia with the SOMA Executives who were on retreat in Richmond,
Virginia' in October 1998, a well known Church Leader from Cape Town, Rev Trevor
Pearce was absolutely gripped by the story. So too were the others they all knew
that God the Holy Spirit was planting something in their hearts that would burst
forth in some exciting way. He returned home excited about what they had heard
and with treasure - a copy of an audio tape and a booklet produced by George
Otis Jnr. which tells of the work of transformation taking place in Cali,
Columbia, and the hope contained in these principles which they believe could be
contextualized in other parts of the world.
Trevor returned to Cape Town with its drugs, crime and violence with a quiet
sense of excitement and anticipation. He shared copies of this tape with Pastor
Eddie Edson and a few other pastors. Soon these various copies were being copied
again, fast and furiously, and shared with many other hope hungry people in
their city. They recognised that the principles of prayer, unity, leadership
etc. were biblical principles for universal application. Soon Community
Transformation Cape Town was born. The initial prayer meetings and gathering of
leaders culminated in their first citywide prayer meeting in June 1999. He was
back in Washington for a SOMA Executive meeting, which was strategically
positioned alongside a conference on Community Transformation at which George
Otis also launched the video Transformations. They arranged a telephone link up
with that first prayer meeting at which 1200 people had gathered to pray
throughout the night. Now, there was no turning back.
The video resulted in an exponential spreading of the vision. He couldn't keep
pace with one video so he ordered 20 more then 50 and was swallowed up by people
desperate to have copies. Bennie Mostert, (then NUPSA now Jericho Walls) - a
prayer network for Africa, took over and to date over 20 000 copies have been
distributed in Africa. Wherever the video was shown, God ignited fires in the
hearts of His people. Wherever the video was shown, God brought together some of
the most unlikely people. Relationships were being forged across denominational,
racial and cultural divides as never before.
City wide prayer meetings were held at approximately 3 monthly intervals and
the numbers grew to 2500, then 5000 at an open air venue at the heart of our
city, 6000 in a small athletics stadium etc. Prayer was at the heart of what God
was doing. When Rashied Staggie, the most notorious gangster in Cape Town turned
to Jesus, the impetus increased magnificently. People saw a difference at a very
high level (or were it at a very low level?) People could now believe God for a
breakthrough and they prayed with greater faith. Small breakthroughs led to
bigger breakthroughs. After a bombing campaign of 22 bombs in Cape Town, the
perpetrators were caught the very next day after a major prayer meeting focused
on this group asking God for a breakthrough. Headlines in the papers the next
day: Breakthrough.
Graham Power, a successful businessman and relatively new convert, also saw one
of the videos. In June 2000 God gave a vision to Graham that Africa will become
the Hope to the world and this vision had 5 stages:
The first stage was to get the Churches in Cape Town (Southern point of SA)
united in a Day of Prayer when 45 000 Christians got together on the Newlands
Rugby stadium. Hundreds of testimonies can be shared of lives, communities and a
city that was transformed. This started a process that changed the lives of the
people and the city of Cape Town forever.
Following the day of prayer held at the Newlands Rugby stadium in Cape Town, 8
other areas across South Africa hosted similar events in 2002. (Stage 2 South
Africa) In addition the event was broadcasted live on DSTV and SABC TV and was
shown in dozens of rural Towns - Community Centres, Churches, Correctional
Facilities, Retirement Homes, Town Halls, and private dwellings, not to mention
the fact that it was seen in African countries as far north as the Democratic
Republic of the Congo and Kenya. These events so captured the hearts and minds
of people all over the continent that it was decided to put together a strategy
that will take the process of Transformation forward. On 29 May 2002 history was
made when + 80 people from different regions, cultures and denominations came
together in Cape Town to discuss the Transformation process in Southern Africa
and Africa for 2003 and years to come.
A Summit was held from 22 25 September 2002. 220 Church- and Community leaders,
Businessmen and delegates from 9 different African countries were gathered. The
representatives decided on a mission and vision for Transformation Africa. The
vision is Africa for Christ with the mission being Transforming Africa through
Unity and Prayer as we mobilize the Body of Christ and all spheres of society,
Community by Community, Nation by Nation with the full Gospel of Jesus Christ
The challenge facing the regions then was to unite all the churches in the
different regions to work together towards transforming South Africa and Africa.
People need to take hands over a broader spectrum, not only with regards to
black and white, but also over the boundaries of different church denominations.
The same year (2002) saw the International Prayer Counsel (IPC) gathered in
Cape Town South Africa. At this International consultation a proposal was made
to network a Global day of Prayer on Pentecost Sunday, 15 May 2005. This co
inside with the vision of Transformation Africa and simultaneously in other
parts of the world the same vision emerged independently from South Africa and
the IPC.
All over the continent everyone was so inspired that 77 South African regions
and 27 African countries (66 cities) committed themselves to participate in the
process of Transforming Africa and taking part in a Day of Prayer for Africa on
the 1st of May 2003. (Stage 3 Southern Africa)
2004 was the realization of the fourth stage of the vision. The Day of Prayer
for Africa was held on 2 May 2004. Our aim was to reach all 56 countries in
Africa to participate. Part of the planning was to involve every town/community
in Africa. We are happy to say that more than 273 cities/towns in South Africa
and all 56 countries in Africa (more than 1 200 towns/cities) committed
themselves to the process of transforming Africa and participated in a Day of
Prayer for Africa, raising a canopy of Prayer across the continent involving
more than 22 million people. This was a day that changed the face of Africa
forever.
The fifth Stage will see a Global Day of Prayer which will take place on 15 May
2005. The plan is to start praying as the sun comes up in the East (New Zealand)
in different time slots until the Sun sets in the West (USA). This planning will
involve leaders from all 6 continents and will include more than 240 countries
around the Globe under the auspices of International Prayer Council (IPC).
There are many critical elements in transformation. One of the most important
is leadership without which not even the prayer ministry will grow.
Transformation requires Godly leaders visionary people, kingdom minded people
who are willing to express the unity that Jesus prayed for (Ephesians 4). It
requires servant leaders who are not in it for themselves but for Gods glory and
a tangible transformation of people's context. Good leaders recognize that
transformation is a process over time. Sufficient things have happened to
indicate that God is in the centre of what we are doing. However a glance at our
reality will indicate that there is a long road to travel and the best is yet to
be.
Global day of prayer
After Jesus was raised from the dead, He met with His followers many times
during a period of forty days. He did far more than prove that He was alive. He
spoke again and again about the Kingdom of God: the advance of God's kingly love
among all the peoples of earth. On the last day He was with them, He told them
to stay in Jerusalem and to wait for the promise of the Father. Just after Jesus
was received into heaven, His followers gathered together in Jerusalem to do
exactly what Jesus had told them: to wait for the promise of the Father. But it
was not a passive waiting. They waited by praying earnestly for ten days. They
sought God zealously with their hearts aligned with one mind concerning the
promise about the Spirit of God. They prayed persistently through the many other
promises about the Kingdom of God that Jesus had spent so much time teaching
them.
As we read their prayers, and as we listen to what poured out from their hearts
in the days that followed Pentecost, we get a good idea about how they prayed.
Their prayers and statements sprang from the written Word of God. They prayed in
fervent, hope-filled passion for God to fulfill His promises regarding His
kingdom on earth. Christ is again calling His church to unite in prayer. We are
compelled to pray because the great troubles that shake our world have no human
solution. Even more, we are called to pray because of the wonderful promises
that God has purposed to accomplish by Christ's life and power among the peoples
of earth. It is time now for God's people to gather again in persistent, united
prayer. What better way to unite in prayer than to consecrate ourselves to seek
God for ten days, as Jesus' first followers did, culminating on the day of
Pentecost?
Following the example of the first followers who joined together constantly in
prayer (Acts 1.14) during the ten days between the ascent of Jesus and the
descent of His Spirit on Pentecost, believers will be organizing ways to pray
together night and day beginning Friday, 6 May, (Ten Days of Prayer toward a
Greater Pentecost) through the end of Pentecost Sunday, 15 May, 2005. The
following prayer guide provides a simple way for you and your church to pray in
united hope and faith with Christians all over the world:

5. DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE PEACE OF
JERUSALEM
The First
Sunday of October
The Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem
A global coalition of over 500 leaders (partial
list below) is calling for millions of Christians around the world to join
together and set aside the First Sunday of October as the Day of Prayer for the
Peace of Jerusalem, praying for Gods promise of peace to be realized for all
inhabitants of that historic and troubled City.
Millions are standing with this prayer effort, and we invite you to become a
part of this global movement by remembering Jerusalem in your prayers on Sunday,
October 3. It is expected that 20,000 American churches will take part in this
event, as well as countless more churches around the world. Leadership teams are
already working towards mobilizing participation in more than 70 nations.
THE VISION
The Day
of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem, instituted with the endorsement of
hundreds of leaders from around the world, representing tens of millions of
Christians, will be held on the first Sunday of every October. Our call is for
sustained, fervent, informed global intercession for the plans and purposes of
God for Jerusalem and all her people. This global grassroots prayer initiative
coincides with the season of Yom Kippur, recognizing the Jewish roots of the
Christian faith.
Our goal, by God's grace, is that by this October we will have:
70
participating nations
50 million believers participating
20,000 participating American churches
-
UNDERSTANDING...that we are children of Abraham by faith, the wild olive branch
grafted in to the root of God's covenant, and,
- RECOGNIZING... that God has kept his word to Abraham and His descendants and
settled them in their homeland again, according to the word of the prophets,

6. EUROPE: A NEW REFORMATION
>From: Marc van der Woude <MarcvanderWoude@XC.Org>
Joel News publisher Marc van der Woude keeps a weblog in which he reflects on
God, the Church and daily life. This week he reports in-depth on the Connect
Europe gathering in Geneva, that brought together 50 young leaders from 7
nations to pray and talk about the emerging generation in Europe and the need
for a new church reformation. He also visited the Greenbelt Arts Festival in the
UK where leaders from emerging churches gathered for a global roundtable, and
17,000 Christians celebrated Christ in a myriad of new expressions.

9. JAPAN: "THE PASISON OF THE
CHRIST"
>From: richapril3@ybb.ne.jp
One of the house church leaders in Tokyo was riding the train on the way home
recently and noticed an article about Mel Gibsons movie The Passion of Christ in
one of the secular newspapers. The article concluded with this comment, "In our
insecure society with an unstable economy, especially after the burst of the
bubble economy, the number of people, including young and old, who are
interested in spiritual matters is increasing. The Passion could cause
unprecedented impact on the Japanese mindset." The Passion opens in theaters in
Japan this weekend.

10. PORTUGAL AND POLAND
>From: Friday Fax <FridayFax@bufton.net>
Portugal: "Portugal 2015" unanimously confirmed
"No, they didn't win the European Football Championships, but Portugal is on the
way to winning something far more important than a silver cup," reports Reinhold
Scharnowski, European coordinator of the Dawn Movement. Following a number of
advance discussions, in May 2004, the leaders of Portugal's Evangelical Alliance
unanimously ratified "Portugal 2015", a long-term missionary strategy with the
aim of reaching a total of 4,000 churches in Portugal by 2015. "This day will
remain in our hearts for a long time, because the General Assembly of Portugal's
Evangelical Alliance has unanimously decided to support this missionary project
as the expression of our common vision for the next eleven years," writes Paulo
Pasqual, coordinator for Evangelism and Prayer. Following careful research under
the coordination of pastor Paulo Mendez, a missionary Bible teacher from Brazil,
the nation's Evangelical leaders decided on this national missionary project,
based on the Dawn strategy. In order to reach the goal, the current rate of
church planting must continue for the next ten years.

Poland: hundreds become Christians during the 'Festival of Life'
"During an evangelistic event in Wisla in southern Poland, hundreds of Poles
came to faith in Jesus. Some of them even ran on to the stage following the
altar calls - and this despite a number of complications, according to the
organisors," reports Dan Wooding of Assist News. The outreach was planned by
pastors and members of a church in San Diego, California. The problems began on
July 15th, when a knife-wielding man tried to climb onto the stage "to stab the
preacher", Mickey Stonier, who was standing in for Mike MacIntosh, who had
fallen sick. Staff were able to stop the obviously inebriated man. Another
speaker, 86-year-old John Woudenberg, ex-athlete and mayor of Scottsdale,
Arizona, fell sick and almost collapsed. Shortly before being taken to hospital
in an ambulance, Woudenberg called on the people to "be good witnesses for God,
and to expect miracles in their ministry." "Typical John," comments Mickey
Stonier, "he had to finish his sermon before being taken to hospital..." Through
seminars and outreach on the street, "a large number of alcoholics decided to
become Christians." According to Henryk Kroll, one of the organisers, the Polish
media reported about the outreach. Catholic Priest Richard Nowak, who belongs to
the nation's charismatic Light-Life movement, also took part in the events.
