The Lord used Amsterdam 2000 to rekindle my passion to see Pastors’ Prayer
Groups established and strengthened worldwide. He gave me to opportunity to
meet, talk and connect with several who lead prayer networks in their
respective nation.
Intercessors:
Please pray with me that those new relationships will result in an
International Network of Pastors’ Prayer Networks. Pray also, that the NPPN
will become a key source of news about the PPG movement beyond the United
States.
Network
Leaders: Please make sure the NPPN receives reports on your work of gathering,
networking, and resourcing pastors (especially in prayer). Pastors’ Prayer Leaders: Please take a
moment to email reports on your PPG (no group is too small nor insignificant).
Many around the world are eager to hear how God is bringing you together in His
unity and how He is leading you to partner in prayer, evangelism, church
planting...toward impacting your town or city for Christ.

*CONGO,
AFRICA: 3,500 COME TO CHRIST AT CRUSADE
>From:
Vic Ramsey <vicramsey@influenceuk.com>
(RT) -
Threats of bombings, stonings and beatings didn’t keep people away from
evangelistic meetings in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. Thousands assembled in the city stadium each
afternoon from June 21-25 to hear American evangelist Sammy Tippit preach. A
total of 3,500 people became Christians, his ministry reports. “Rebel forces
opposed to evangelical Christians tore down the posters for the crusade,”
Tippit said. “They made frightening threats via underground radio broadcasts
against anyone thinking of attending the meetings.” On top of everything the
mixer on the sound system broke on the first day. “But God moved in spite of it
all. The devil roared, but he was defeated. God won the battle, and the people
of Bukavu are rejoicing with exceeding gladness. Many were ushered into God’s kingdom.”

*HONDURAS:
WAVE OF NEW BELIEVERS AND CHURCHES
>From:
“Crosswalk.com” <editor@crosswalk.com>
LA
CEIBA, Honduras (BP)--Filadelfo Pavón was bitter and suspicious. He was bitter
that Hurricane Mitch ripped through Honduras and washed much of the countryside
where he lived toward the Caribbean Sea.
His
suspicion arose from weekly waves of Southern Baptist volunteers from North
Carolina who arrived to build his house and more than 100 other houses for his
neighbors. “What could they possibly want?” he wondered. “We’ve lost
everything.”
Pavón
escaped death in late October 1998, when Hurricane Mitch leveled communities,
crops and lives as it ripped a path across Central America. Honduras took the
greatest blow as Mitch’s eye swooped inland.
Thousands
lost their lives in the hurricane’s wake. But thousands like Pavón are finding
life as well—eternal life—as Baptists have ministered and witnessed in the
region.
His
suspicion turned to realizing his need for Christ as he watched volunteers care
for and play with his children. When construction was complete, he insisted the
community gather at his property to dedicate his new house.
“Before
we begin, I want to ask the people of this community for forgiveness,” he
started. “And I want everyone to know I have asked Jesus into my heart.”
Within
two weeks, Pavón’s wife, 20-year-old daughter and two other women followed his
example and accepted Christ as well.
“There
has been an openness for the gospel never before seen here in Honduras,” said
Max Furr, an International Mission Board missionary and disaster response
coordinator for the board’s relief efforts in Honduras. “Doors are open and
people are asking us to come and preach in their communities and villages.”
Seventy-eight
Baptist churches have been organized across the country through the relief
efforts. In the Lower Aguán Baptist Association alone, one of the hardest-hit
areas, more than 800 decisions for Christ have been recorded.
The
harvest of souls hasn’t happened through happenstance. God provided resources
for ministry and Southern Baptist missionaries and Honduran Baptists provided a
strategy.
“We
decided from the very beginning that we were going to work through local
churches to identify pockets of people who were not receiving help from any
other organization,” said Ken Cummins, the IMB missionary coordinating relief
work in the northern coastal region. “Once we distributed food, we relocated
people whose communities were lost. Money for the land and materials, and the
labor, were provided by Southern Baptists.”
Southern
Baptists filled a total of 80 40-foot shipping containers—more than 2 million
pounds of food, blankets, and clothing—for relief efforts in Honduras. Baptist
State conventions from North Carolina and Texas and a tri-state partnership
between Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana Baptists are sending a seemingly
endless stream of volunteer teams to assist in the recovery.
More
than 2,000 volunteers have worked through the IMB in hurricane-wrecked areas in
Central America. The volunteers have built more than 600 cinder block houses
throughout Honduras. Although
evangelism was not the purpose for constructing houses, sharing the gospel in
every community was intentional.
“We
started Bible studies in areas where we built homes, in areas associated with
flood relief and took the gospel directly into areas in an evangelism effort
where we did not work,” Cummins said. “We wanted to saturate the gospel.”
“In
dealing with the physical needs of the people, we also were able to deal with
their spiritual needs,” Furr said. “Many came to know Christ and have
affiliated with new church starts or organized churches.”
Evangelization
efforts continue, but Francisco Oqueli Erazo, president of the Lower Aguán
Baptist Association, said the greatest need now is leadership development and
doctrinal training.
“As we
work within the churches and see the initiative of a person, we get along
beside him and mentor him,” Erazo said. “We need to be raising leaders in these
new works.”
The
Honduras National Baptist Convention recently began a five-year plan for
missions outreach over the whole country and is hoping to soon send its first
international missionaries. Lay training schools also will be established throughout
the country to train the new leaders close to home.
Many
Baptist leaders in Honduras see the decisions for Christ and the new churches
as the possible beginning of a rapidly reproducing church-planting movement.
They believe they still have opportunities to spiritually capitalize on what
Hurricane Mitch began.
“There
is still a climate of humility and a high sense of awareness of God,” Cummins
said. “People still are struggling to make ends meet, to find work.

Dear Willie,
Just got

has been murdered last night by extremist Hindu’s. Can you put this out online
and get some cover for the others. Yes others have been threatened.
They are
showing the Jesus film all over the North and lots are getting saved.

In recent
days one of our Pastors in the village of Jalandhar in the Punjab was brutally
murdered. Ashis was serving the Lord in a number of neighboring villages. Ashis
was just 28 years old who traveled from village to village sharing his
testimony and showing the Jesus movie.
He had
been warned to cease by extremist Hindus at an open air meeting last February.
They came in the night last week and killed him.
Our
organization The Miracle Mission is currently raising funds to help
his
family. Further we are receiving some other financial support and
donating
it to a New Bible School in New Delhi. These funds will be given in
memory of
Ashish and will be use to provide new dormitory furniture. This
Bible
School trains soul winners and Pastors for work in the Northern Punjab

NEW CHURCHES & 400 PRAYER GROUPS
>From:
Friday Fax <fridayfax@dawneurope.net>
“Armenia
still suffers the results of 1988’s great earthquake, in which 25,000 people
were killed and many lost their houses. Over 80% of the population is
unemployed, and government statistics show that 54% of the population lives in
poverty. The people are looking for help and answers, and are also open for the
gospel,” reports the Bible League, which recently began working in the nation.
Eleven
Bible groups have been started since the end of 1998, according to Vagan
Frankian, the local leader. Four new churches with around 200 members have been
planted as a result of the Bible groups, and the Bible League hopes to double
that number in the year 2000. The traditional Armenian Apostolic Church also
has an evangelically-oriented Brotherhood, which has 400 prayer groups in 200
of the mountainous country’s regions.

MARCH FOR JESUS IN THREE CITIES
>From:
Marc van der Woude <MarcvanderWoude@XC.Org>
This year
the March for Jesus took place in three French cities - Paris, Strasbourg, and
La Rochelle, the most ever in France! The Paris march followed the royal way in
Paris to proclaim the Kingdom of Jesus. There were public prayers for the
wounds of the nation, and a powerful gospel message. A number of people were converted on the spot! “You’re Christians!”
one exclaimed “I’ve been looking for you for months because I want to be a Christian”.
Strasbourg’s first march was also on June 10th. After three years of
talking about it, 700 Christians got out onto the streets at 3.30 that
afternoon with witness, praise prayer and proclamation. There were special
times of prayer in front of the Hotel de Ville and at the old gateway to the
city. The March finished with prayers for Europe shared with friends from other
EU countries. June 17th saw the first March for Jesus in La
Rochelle. Organised in some haste, many lessons have been learned for next
year. All the churches of the City were invited to participate, and over a
hundred people form La Rochelle Poitiers, Niort and the villages around turned
up on the hottest afternoon of the year with flags, banners and musical
instruments. There was no doubt that many citizens were pleased to see
something happening on the streets that they recognised as good, even though
some could not understand the notion of churches acting together.

IRELAND: PRAYER CONFERENCE
>From:
<AVMuk@aol.com>
We are
having a special Prayer Conference at Castlewellan Castle, Oct.27-29th
this year on the situation in Northern Ireland. Political prisoners, convicted
in many cases of terrorist acts, have been recently released under the current
politiocal arrangements and we need special prayer over the 12th
July Marching Season. Over 100,000 Protestant Orange Order marchers annually
celebrate a victory over Catholic forces in 1690, and this stirs up both
political and sectarian violence especially at this time of year, particularly
in the Co. Armagh area.
We
are aiming at one hundred and twenty (!) praying people gathering
during
Halloween Weekend at Castlewellan for a spiritual visitation on the
country
similar to Pentecost! The theme of the
Conference is to be
“CONQUERORS
THROUGH THE COVENANT”. We are already 75% full! (Food and
Accommodation
Cost per person is only £41 stg or
about $65 US!) and
expected
speakers will include Joe Mostovoy (Pastor of a Hebrew Christian
Congregation)
and Joe Mc Intyre (Head of John G Lake Missionary foundation
IFM) Bookings can be made by credit card, and
deposit of £5 stg only is
now
required,
Last year
was critical for the Peace process in October, and a widow of a murdered
Protestant political leader had the grace to write the leading minister in
Ulster, to extend forgiveness to her husband’s killers after an intercessor at
the Conference asked her pardon for this murder on behalf of all Catholic
people.
This
spirit of reconciliation is critical for future peace in this land of saints
and scholars, where the testimony of Christianity is seen across the world in
the media. (The book “OBEY THE VISION” gives details of how eight praying
people brought the Charismatic revival to Ireland in the 1970s) Let us see
Christians gather together in ONE place of ONE accord in October and pray for
the summer season across Northern Ireland now.

INTRODUCTION TO INTERCESSORS NETWORK
>From:
Intercessors Network <LW.Pray@swipnet.se>
Intercessors
Network is a set of freely interacting prayer units in about 100 nations
(Spring, 2000). Intercessors Network has set the intercession for men in power
position, for kings and rulers, 1 Tim 2.1-4, as its first priority and sole
ground for existence. Intercessors Network does not hold any special political
colour or position. The Network is eagerly praying for holiness to be
established through recognition of the lordship of Jesus Christ.
Intercession
is ability to react and act. Intercession is ability to react the right way to
the right things. Intercession is ability to watchfully wait in the presence of
the Lord and act according to his revealed will. Rapid action in prayer is so
often needed at many levels of human experience. Computer technology allows us
to work closely together and enhances the possibilities of mobilising much
prayer in short time. E-mail communications provides foundation for solid and
immediate prayer back up. E-mail
communication allows us to provide precisely defined and focused prayer cover.
Intercessors
Network provides an Urgent Prayer Target e-mail list, to be used for instant
prayer mobilisation in regards to current issues related to the common goal of
the Network. Intercessors are certainly welcome to send reports on current
issues and definitions of prayer targets. By subscribing to the lists, you are
not obliged to respond to everything that is sent out from the Network. You may
and must pick and choose according to interest and the prompting of the Holy
Spirit. Intercessors Network also invites you to visit our web site, where we
provide help to find proper prayer targets and instruction on prayer warfare.
Send us a note, if you want to be linked to our e-mail lists! No need to
reconfirm if you are linked to our lists already.

PASTORS’ ASSOCIATION IN ECUADORIAN COASTAL TOWN
>From:
Vic Ramsey <vicramsey@hispapernetwork.totalserve.co.uk>
The
first pastors’ association in the Ecuadorian resort community of Salinas is
being started as a result of a pastors’ workshop, June 27-29. Sponsored by
Apoyo, a joint ministry of HCJB World Radio and Leadership Resources, 40 local
church leaders met in the coastal town of Libertad for the workshop even though
there were only enough books for 30.
Apoyo
trainer Pablo PÈrez of HCJB World Radio says participants showed great enthusiasm
and decided to begin coordinating their efforts. “The pastors said, ‘We want to
learn to work together and not be in competition.’ What a great first step!”
The workshop was led by missionaries CÈsar Cortez and Jeff Rains. A follow-up
workshop is planned for Aug. 17-18.
Missionaries
Nancy Cortez and Tim and Onilda Broach also returned from a Christian education
workshop in the coastal city of Guayaquil, June 23-24. Approximately 90 participants and 10
auditors representing 15 area churches attended the event.
“A
number of schoolteachers were among this group,” PÈrez says. “One lady who had
taught school for 30 years said, ‘I was really encouraged and refreshed by this
workshop!’”
Apoyo
trains more than 500 pastors and church leaders in Ecuador and across Latin
America each year. Hundreds of churches also benefit from teacher training
workshops, family conferences and other seminars and Bible studies. (HCJB World Radio)

are traveling into the country’s baranguays or neighborhoods of 1,000-2,000
people, the Jesus Film (http://www.jesusfilm.org)
ministry said. They have taken 26 different language versions of the film to
more than 15,000 communities.
Church
attendance has increased in the baranguays where the film has been shown, and
at least six churches have been started as a result of the outreach, leaders
say. “There are many hardships, but when we see people coming forward to

a prayer card that can be a key in the transformation of your nation. Called the 1 Timothy 2 “pray for those in
authority” prayer card, it lists the names of our President, his cabinet, and
Supreme Court Justices. The names on your card would be adapted for your
country. On the back of the card are 12 scripture references and summaries
useful for directing prayer for both political and spiritual leadership, giving
the card a good balance. According to 1
Tim.2:1-4, 8 , if we will stop arguing with God, criticizing His appointed
leaders, and pray according to the plan God Himself sets forth in the Word, which
is to pray for salvation and knowledge of the truth, God will hear and answer
these prayers and we will see peace, godliness and reverence restored . A tremendous promise!
From our
web site: www.lydiafellowship.org
you can download information from the card yourself, adapt the names to those
for your country and print out the card or information on sheets for prayer
gatherings. Hong Kong has already done this. (Since the card is copyright, we
ask that you acknowledge it is used by permission of Lydia Fellowship.)

*ETHIOPIA:
8,000 MUSLIMS BECOME CHRIST FOLLOWERS
From: “Religion Today News Summary from
Crosswalk.com”
Eight
thousand people, including many Muslims, have become Christians in Ethiopia in
two years. Active churches have formed throughout Southeast Ethiopia, a group
from mission agency Aktionskomitee für Verfolgte Christen (Action Committee for
Persecuted Christians) told DAWN FridayFax (http://www.jesus.org.uk/dawn/index.html).
In one town, the Muslims “sold their small mosque to the Christians, but it is
already too small.” The missions agency supports 75 evangelists in Ethiopia.
Members
of the missions group said they were particularly thankful for God’s working in
the Manja tribe, “one of the nation’s most despised tribes,” who live on monkey
meat and roots, serve many gods, and yet live in constant fear of evil spirits.
Eight churches with more than 900 members were planted among the tribe in the
last three years when a former agricultural engineer evangelized in the region.

*GERMANY:
PAVILION OF HOPE REACHES 100,000’s >From: “Religion Today News Summary from
Crosswalk.com” <listreplies@crosswalk.com>
...Hundreds of thousands of people are hearing the gospel at a technology
exhibition in Germany. An eye-catching building at World Expo 2000 in Hanover
is called the Pavilion of Hope (http://www.poh.de/templateA.php3?L=2&HM=0&UM=0&A=0&B=1).
Christians designed the glass-and-aluminum structure to look like a huge whale,
a reminder of the biblical story of Jonah.
...They
recruited 1,400 volunteers from German churches to staff the building, which
features a multimedia presentation based on Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son
and other evangelistic exhibits, German church leader Ulrich Parzany told
participants at Amsterdam 2000 (see link #2 below).
...Evangelistic
films are shown in six languages, and multilingual volunteers are on hand to
explain the exhibits and ask people if they want prayer. Many people have
become Christians and received counseling from the volunteers, Parzany said.
The pavilion is sponsored by German Evangelical Fellowship, World Vision
International, and YMCA Germany. ...The
pavilion presents Christianity “right in the middle of the secular marketplace,”
Parzany said. Its appearance is so distinctive that it has become the official
landmark pavilion of Expo 2000. More than 300,000 people, most of them under
age 25, have visited the exhibit. Expo 2000 opened June 1 and runs until Oct.
31. Its theme is “Mankind-Nature-Technology.”
