* A Word From Pastor Phil...
My City Impact Roundtable co-convener, Tom White, plans to spend the month of
September traveling to major cities in India. He has been invited to coach the
local/regional leadership teams but I suspect he will return having learned as
much as he will impart.
Nations are different. Cultures are distinct. But there is much we can learn
from one another. The stories and strategies in each Global Update come from a
variety of continents but indicate the Holy Spirit is at work in His Church;
sometimes in very similar ways.
May we each be humble enough to listen for the Lord's wisdom in the ideas and
insights of other Christian believers who labor in far fields.
As you skim and scan, take a moment to pray for one of these nations and for the
leaders who have reported how God is at work in their midst,
Pastor Phil

1. CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
>From: "Bennie Mostert" <bennie@mostert.ws>
Three years ago a business man in Cape Town South Africa saw the Transformations
video produced by George Otis jr. He called together the pastors in Cape Town
and challenged them to bring their people for a day of prayer on the Newlands
Rugby Stadium in the city. It was a day of prayer and repentance, based on 2
Chron.7:17. Some 45 000 people came to the stadium on 21 March 2001 for 4 hours
of prayer and worship. Since then, amongst other things, the crime in the city
dropped with more than 45% over the next 3 years.
In 2002 it started to spread throughout the country. On 8 stadiums were
involved on 21 March 2002 with some 160 000 people in the stadiums. In 2003 the
whole thing moved into Africa. In South Africa 77 stadiums were used for prayer
meetings on 1 May 2003 and another 62 in 28 African countries. Some 700 000
people were praying in the stadiums with another 5 million linked via radio and
television.
This year there will be prayer meetings on Sunday 2 May in all 58 nations and
islands linked to the continent of Africa. Up till today (with 40 days to go) we
have already registered just over 950 venues/stadiums throughout the continent.
This does not include 13 nations where people will not be able to gather in
stadiums, but will meet in house groups, churches and other venues. In South
Africa alone we registered 250 stadiums for 2 May 2004.
We want to call on Africans all over the world to have a prayer meeting in the
city or town where they are living right now and to join us in prayer for
Africa. A 10 minute prayer is available that will be prayed all over Africa at
15h00, Greenwich +2. This prayer can be e-mailed to people interested (Ask for
the Prayer for Africa - 2 May). The prayer is also available on the website
www.transformationafrica.com for all interested - it is available in Arabic,
French, Swahili, Amahric, Afrikaans, English, Portuguese, Shona, Zulu, Sotho,
Tswana, Xhosa, Pedi.
We have confirmation from groups in the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Belgium, Sweden
and other places that will join us in prayer for Africa.
All this is helping to prepare the way for the global day of prayer 15 May
2005, Pentecost Sunday.

2. NPPN ZAMBIA: A NATIONAL HOUSE OF
PRAYER
>From: "Aaron Mwale" <aaronmwale@pop3.zamtel.zm>
For years now the Lord has been laying upon our hearts to establish a NATIONAL
HOUSE OF PRAYER (NATIONAL PRAYER CENTER). This will serve this nation (ZAMBIA)
and the surrounding nations and Africa as a whole. We have carried this vision
now for years, praying through to see when could be the right time and where in
our nation.
The vision we have for this Center is see a 24 hour prayer chain carried for
all nations, this will also be a prayer/spiritual warfare and missions training
center. We see ourselves train and sending out prayer / mission teams throughout
our nation and Central Africa/ Southern Africa. The need for this is great.
We strongly feel this will be national prayer altar that God will use break
national strongholds, denominational barriers in different cities / communities.
God will use this to bring unity in many of our communities throughout our
nation and the nations around us.
In our city there are buildings that have being put on sale by tender and we
strongly feel its time we step out by faith to bid for one of the building which
we feel will be ideal for our national prayer center. Right now this building is
been used as a beer hall and the chairperson of the beer hall is a freemason and
we are up against this spirit so that we use the building for God's Kingdom.
We feel this is the building the Lord would want us get. We know that this is no
easy battle as the Lord has been showing us but we know we have won the battle.
As I write this letter to all of you requesting you to stand with us in prayer
we have already send in our bid which is at $10,000 (US). The deadline for all
the bids will on the 31st July 2004. And it will be after that day that they
will get in contact with us. SO PRAY THAT:
1. No one gets the building except ourselves.
2. The finances to buy the building will be readily available by the time
the decision is made. We are taking this step by faith, trusting the Lord for a
financial breakthrough.
3. That God right now will raise financial partners for this project.
We are calling all of you to be part of this project in any way the Lord speaks
to you. For more information of what we doing in this part of Africa you can go
to this web site: www.nppn.org GLOBAL NETWORK
(NATIONAL PASTORS PRAYER NETWORK AFRICA- ZAMBIA).
Once again thanks for standing with us. You can share this need of ours with
many other prayer teams in your church/ ministry/ network. May the Lord richly
bless you as you stand with us.
Yours in God's Kingdom Service, Apostle Aaron Mwale

4. NPPN UGANDA: PASTORS MEETING
>From: daniel aburu <fishersofmenchurch2002@yahoo.com>
Hi Pastor Phil,
Greetings from the Uganda Pastors Prayer Network.
On 24 of april we held a pastor prayer meeting at Busia district with over 70
paster from different denominations and churches. We also had lunch together.
Some of them come from other districts and from the neighbouring country of
Kenya. Others walked for miles just for this meeting.
The pastor are organized from village level then sub- county then county then
district levels national level. I am now in the process of opening other
District Pastors Prayer NetworkS in the districts of Palisa District, Mbale
district, Tororo District , Palisa district , Bugiri District Iganga and Kumi
District by the end of 2004. I hope therefore that other districts will follow.
After these districts we need you to visit us for a nation wide conference for
the pastors. We have already given the idea to the pastors; we will inform you
of the dates.
Pray with me that God continues to provide for me transport and food for the
pastors during these meetings It may be cruel to send them away hungry since
some come on foot others on bicycles. I covered the Busia prayer meeting; I am
to send it as soon as i get money. Expect great things to happen in the Uganda
Pastors Prayer Network. Thank you Pastor Phil.
With Love frorm Uganda, Pastor Daniel Aburu

5. SOUTH ASIA EVANGELISM INSTITUTE
>From: "Linda Kacena" <Linda.S.Kacena@wheaton.edu>
Thank you for your prayers as I ministered in the Philippines April 1-11 at the
South Asian Advanced Institute for Evangelists. The training for the evangelism
leaders was very rewarding. All who attended the Conference are involved in
evangelism. Some are pastors and itinerant evangelists. Others are pastors who
desire to make their churches evangelistic. I taught on both levels itinerant
evangelism and local church evangelism.
The 7 nations represented was inspiring. I was impressed with how God knits his
passion for a lost world into people of various cultures in a similar way. The
Indonesians struggle with persecution from Muslims. The Vietnam leaders
struggle with communism. For many of them, persecution is actually part of
their arsenal of tools. They expect it, and God magnifies himself through it.
Their need for materials was eye-opening. They long for books, which are so
rare in their cultures. They read and understand English better than they speak
it.
The Saturday night outreach was disappointing. Only 150 showed up for the
meeting and at least 85% of them were believers. (That is about the same ratio
for Graham meetings in the states, incidentally). Still I'm told, we had 13
decisions for Christ and the local host church is following up. Three of the
decisions were made by transvestites. Before the outreach all of the students
canvassed the neighborhoods inviting people to the meeting and leading people to
Christ one-on-one.
The Philippine people are gentle and kind. For the most part, they love
American things and people. They have adopted much of our ways. They called me
"Arnold Swartzenagger" because at 5'9" I was tall and built like a body
builder. How funny.
Thank you again for standing with me. I am in debt to your intercession.
Lon Allison, Director of the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College

6. ACCOUNTABILITY FOR PASTORS IS
INTERNATIONAL
>From: JONATHAN Brownson <jseebrown@juno.com>
Phil, I am forwarding this letter from a pastor friend of mine in Uganda. I
believe it is a wonderful example of building accountability among pastors from
which we in the US could learn much. Praying with You, Jonathan Brownson
Dear Brethrens,
Grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be to you all.
Thank you for all your prayers that has sustained our ministry. Because of that
we have relieved many things, but I will mention a few. We do our ministry on
the theme "Building the Church of Christ and each other."
In Jan. we had a workshop for all pastors' kids in my deanery where I am a
Provost. We had a turn up of 55 kids. Titus, Mary and I, were speaking. The kids
were happy to have such a time. To pray and eat together . They requested me to
call them every after 3 months. This is a challenge since it becomes expensive
to feed them.
I visited 4 schools and witnessed to 4,800 pupils and students and many
responded positively. We had Pastors' conference focusing on healing and
deliverance. The 3 days conference attracted 300 participants. It addressed on
this issue of counteracting the demon possessed and oppressed.
In the same month, we had the pastors' conference and their wives. This
addressed the point of integrity, i.e. faithfulness, honesty and uprightness.
The time with family was so key in our discussion. we made self evaluation of
our marriages. I discovered that I didn't do well when it came to busy pastors,
who are workaholic . Most of us confessed that we have little time for rest at
home. I am working on it.
Another area of evaluation was sexuality. Each couple had to explain their
stand. Margaret and I, had just cerebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. Praise
God because we had a sincere testimony that for 20 years no one had ever had sex
outside marriage so we vowed keep it. This is because we need to keep our
marriage vows upright and as ministers we need to keep the testimony.
1Corithians 7:2, Another area was how we deal with money we agreed that we
should always be accountable to each other.
The same month I was installed as Provost. this is such a big office which needs
your prayers i.e, 40 churches, 50 schools and many visitors 10 15 a day in our
home. March was mainly for ecumenical evangelical crusade in counteraction of
witchcraft and human sacrifices in our area. Many people surrendered their
witchcraft to pastor and accepted the gospel.
April: We had an Intercessors' workshop, which was attended by 80 people. They
were equipped to pray for the church and a nation. They took an assignment of
praying for all your churches. I love you all, Stephen Kaziimba.

7. INDIA: CHRISTMAS EVANGELISM
SEMINARS
>From: "Norman Wretlind" <normanwretlind@msn.com>
Today Becky and I are singing afresh the worship song by Andre Crouch: How
can we give thanks for the things You have done for us? Things so undeserved
that You gave to prove Your love to us - the voices of a million angels cannot
express our gratitude - All that we are and ever hope to be we owe it all to
Thee - To God be the glory, to God be the glory, to God be the glory for the
things He has done!
We are in Delhi, having just finished with the last of five Christmas Evangelism
Seminars for India. The most obvious conclusion drawn by the Christian leaders
who attended the seminars is that God is bringing a fresh new approach to
personal evangelism through strategies for reaching out to neighbors. Several
tenured pastors and evangelists mentioned in their response form that they had
never considered making their neighborhoods a mission field! A great deal of
enthusiasm for Christmas parties this December was generated in the five Capital
Cities of India where we held the seminar. Many commented that they had never
attended such a practical evangelism seminar. This vision was cast to the
Hindi, Bengali and Malayalam speaking Christian leaders. Those languages cover
over 750 Million individuals! What could God do with their simple obedience to
Love their neighbors as themselves!
We ended up hosting over 400 pastors, lay leaders and wives. At the conference
in the Cochin area we had to turn away some 15 pastors because there was simply
no room! We had prayed for 70 to attend and the Lord sent 132!
We greeted them from you, our home churches and our children and families. There
were tears in many eyes as Becky and I shared What we have seen and heard and
touched of the life and workings of Jesus Christ in our sphere of influence over
the last 40 years. It was an opportunity to minister to the body of Christ in
ways and places we never imagined! We love you, Norm & Becky

manner you may introduce us to interested person, group or organisation, who are
favourably disposed to mission project of this nature. There's no amount of

"The Whole Church Taking the Whole Gospel to the Whole World"
Naomi Frizzell, Editor
The Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization is celebrating the 30th
anniversary of the International Congress on World Evangelization (ICOWE) held
July 1974 in Lausanne, Switzerland. The meeting, better known as the Lausanne
Congress, brought Christian leaders from around the world to discuss and plan
worldwide efforts to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Out of that gathering,
delegates developed The Lausanne Covenant

, a definitive statement of Christian belief and lifestyle that has been
adopted by many groups as their statement of faith.
To mark the anniversary, the Billy Graham Center Archives (Wheaton, IL, USA) has

2004 Forum
Praise God for clear evidence of growing interest, expectancy and involvement
around the world in the Forum. LCWE International Director David Claydon
reports that scholarships have been awarded to nearly 300 participants from
Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and South Asia. We are grateful for the
many donations sent in to assist this programme that allows emerging leaders
from those parts of the world where the church is growing rapidly, join with
leaders from around the world to reflect on how to take the gospel to those who
still have not heard or have been unresponsive.
Please continue to pray . . .
For Gary Barnes as he goes to Thailand to finalize security details for the
Forum. Please pray that these meetings go well and that all the necessary
resources will be provided.
For all those who are involved in the organization of the Forum, for daily
refreshing and enabling from the Lord.
For the LCWE International Leadership.
For seed money to enable Lausanne to publish the material which comes out of the
31 IG's.
IG6: Hidden and Forgotten People
Pray that the LORD will raise a multitude of workers (Matthew 9:35-38; Luke
10:1-3), who are ready to move out to the UPG's around the world.
Pray that many workers are being called, who have a deep desire to see the UPG's
reached by the Gospel, also that the LORD will raise up the fellowships that are
needed that these workers are trained and given the backing needed.
IG10b: The Local Church and the Great Commission - Tentmaking
Pray for wisdom and strength to take the tentmaking vision not only to Thailand
but into the future. The need is for carefully formed, new, creative
strategies.
IG12: Future Leadership
Praise and thank God for the wonderful time of preparation that He gave the
Task Force in June! Please pray . . .
That God's Spirit will draw the Future Leadership Issue Task Force together with
one heart and mind in preparation for the sessions in Thailand; and that the
Spirit will orchestrate each session (14 of them) to fit and complement one
another as they will be all developed by different facilitators.
That God will bring the participants together with hearts eager to learn and see
Leader Development as a commitment and seize the challenge to live out and
become leader developers, who can model, develop and inspire others to do the
same. That they will catch the life to life heart of developing leaders....not
a cerebral-teaching experience.
That God will help all involved with this IG to grow in cooperating with Him
seeking His ways and surrendering to them and that His gracious hand will be on
all participants and facilitators.
For provision of funds, time, energy and all that participants and facilitators
need to be ready for this Forum.
IG13: Prayer in Evangelism
Praise God that more of their participants are becoming involved and that
they have sufficient funds for almost all those requesting scholarships. Please
pray . . .
That they will have keen discernment and wisdom from God as the material is
edited and collated.
That they will adequately cover the key aspects of the issue of Prayer in
Evangelism.
That they will have sound practical outcomes to present at the end of the
process.
IG18: Evangelisation of Children
Please pray . . .
For the two conveners and the facilitator as they meet on bringing together all
the different strands that the subgroups have been working on.
For the subgroups that still have to complete their work.
IG29: Bioethics
Please pray for their theologian who is doing the main work of drafting
their paper. He has just lost his father after a "distressing illness."
JESUS Film Project: We praise the Lord for the recent wonderful reports of an
increase in the receptivity among Muslims to the gospel, following the showing
of the film "The Passion of the Christ." The JESUS Film Project has been able
to build on this interest and distribute the JESUS Film as a way to "hear the
rest of the story." God is doing miraculous things as people are coming to
Christ in increasing numbers to hear and receive the truth.

12. NPPN NIGERIA: PRAYER
CONFERENCE REPORT
>From: OUTREACHNG@aol.com
Delegates from USA, Britain, Singapore, India, Kenya, Ghana, Benin Republic,
Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Liberia, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo,
every state in Nigeria, and more, attended the 2nd Global Prayerquake and the
8th International Prayer and Leadership Conference (January, 2004). The focus is
on MISSIONS and PRAYER.
Rev. Mosy U. Madugba, International Co-ordinator
DAY ONE -
The Conference started at 3pm on the 4th January, 2004, the first day. The
turn up of people was amazing, for a start. About 3000 delegates arrived
yesterday, from within and outside Nigeria. More are still expected.
It was a unique opening for the Global Prayerquake Conference, the the first
of its kind. We took time to praise and worship God, as He demanded from us.
Prophetic action of enthroning God to sit and take charge of the conference
programmes and at the same time rule as the God of the nations were carried out.
One spectacular thing that happened and calls for serious reflection and
prayer was 'the spiritual meeting with the political". Three representatives of
the Nigerian government were present. In the speech delivered by one of them,
Elder Chief Ojo Maduekwe - former Minister of Transport, now senior adviser to
the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Olusegun Obasanjo,
he showed his dismay at the attitude of preachers who would always fall at the
feet of politicians to ask for money and the corruption in the Church. He meant
that God should touch politicians' lives first before their money could be
received for God's work. The carelessness of Christians has resulted to
powerlessness in the church today (Isaiah 59). He made a call for Christians to
return to true discipleship and live a life of simplicity that depicts the life
of Jesus Christ.
The Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Sir Chigozie Ogbuu, and his wife who
stood in for Ebonyi State Government encouraged Christians to be praying for the
nation daily because "if the country has to change and turn towards God, the
Government have to look at the church". He testified that the Ebonyi State
Government and the Church work together and encouraged the Church to work
cooperatively with the Government to conquer new grounds.
Also speaking, Venerable Professor Thompson Obijuakor who stood in for the
Governor of Rivers State, Sir Dr Peter Odili; recognized that the Government
cannot single handedly fight the problems in Nigeria and so have to graft the
Christian body into the affairs of the nation. He informed the church that the
Government too has its own new grounds to conquer - the theme is good for all
sectors. In his speech, he mentioned that the involvement of government in the
conference was significant because it revealed the Nigerian Government's
expectation from the church and the church cannot afford to disappoint them. And
so the church in Nigeria and other nations need to rise up to their
responsibility, because the church has kings and priests.
I termed this first day as the Nigerian Government Day. Tomorrow being 5th,
we have the USA's Day on the programme. We desire the mighty visitation of God.
He promised 'a great release' for us.
DAY TWO -
This day's conference started with prophetic intercession, praise and
worship at 7am.
Then came a plenary session with the topic: Prayer, The Master Key in Global
Missions, handled by Steve Olumuyiwa. It was purposely put as first to set the
pace of walking in the spirit of prayer. He emphasized that prayer is the
missionary force. He also reminded everyone, especially the Africans that this
is the time appointed by God through prophesies for Africans to impact the
nations through missions. He further stated that God is depending on Africans to
impact the Middle East. Nigeria, he said, is destined to be at the forefront of
making this prophecy come through. To buttress this, he quoted Cindy Jacobs who
said that God has also decided to affect Nigerian Campuses, eradicate cultism
and make Nigeria a peaceful place to stay. There will be out pouring of the Holy
Spirit that will convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment, he
empasised.
The second speaker on the plenary session, The Role of Women in Today's
Missions confirmed through the records of the works women did in the Bible, that
women indeed have great role to play. One of such major role is that they have
the ability of receiving and carrying in their womb 'seed' or 'seeds' that they
nurture until delivery. He encouraged women to receive the plans of God
concerning their children and uphold them through prophetic prayers until their
manifestation. This was also a time of praying for the dejected, the hurting,
the despised and the broken ones for healing.
William Lau, a minister from USA, preached on God of Elijah. The spirit of
Elijah is the spirit that proclaims, "The LORD, he is the God" (1 Kings 18:39).
The spirit of Elijah has visible proofs. He encouraged believers to demonstrate
the God-given authority they have. He too demonstrated this by calling out
people that have cases of pains (minor infirmities) and they were healed. Prayer
sustains authority, he said.
Ted Elmore (USA), spoke on Today's America, A Mission Field. He stated that
in spite of the blessings they receive from God; "America stands in need of
spiritual awakening". He saw the church in Nigeria as a kind God will use to
reach America and other nations. He encouraged everyone to yield to God
wholeheartedly for such assignment. Prayer of commitments and breaking of bad
attitudes were made.
The Last speaker of the day in the plenary session, Arch Bunmi Adedeji
(President of FGBMFI, Nigeria) spoke on a topic, The Roles of Lay men and Women
in Missions, showed that a clergy may be the one that lights the fire while the
laity is the firework that catches the fire before there is a burning. This
means that everyone is indispensable in the house of the Lord, the work is done
together.
We also had about 23 Schools of Ministry. Serious prophetic and intercessory
prayers were made on a personal, family and national level for conquering new
grounds. God's grace helped us to pray fervently.
DAY THREE -
The first speaker, Pastor Tim Olonade spoke on the topic: Present Day
Christian Missions Challenges in Nigeria and Africa. He encouraged Africans to
act because they have heard so much. In response to the message, hundreds of
persons went out to answer the call for missions and pledged allegiance to the
Lamb of God.
Speaking on the theme of the Conference, 'Conquering New Ground', Rev Mosy
Madugba, the International Coordinator of Ministers Prayer Network, reminded
Africans of their heritage - a land of preservation. Africa preserved Abraham
and his sons during the time of famine. God has also reserved ministers whom he
would use to fight the last battle for the kingdom of God and we have come into
the season of doing exploits for the Lord. We cannot fail Him.
Dr M Taylor-Pearce (Sierra Leone) who spoke on The Minister and His Family
gave reasons why problems should not corrupt marriages. God has brought together
the family to build a home for themselves. Words builds up or destroys home,
therefore good and positive things should be said to build the marriage. Rich
devotion with the Lord keeps a family unconquerable.
Bishop Bonifes Adoyo (Kenya) exposed the hideous strategies of Muslims to
Islamize all African nations and those plans are incubated in Abuja of Nigeria.
They gather everyday, make use of their youths, burn churches, buy over
institutions, occupy territories, go on suicide bombing, practice terrorism and
call all these exploits. Exploits that breed evil. They must be stopped, and
Christians, the church in Africa must arise against this destructive monster. A
word of prophecy came that God desire men who will not only give him their
hearts but their heads also. He said he would not find pleasure with those who
draw back.
We also had group meeting where the congregants were divided into 12 groups
and each assigned to a chairman to discuss Time for Everything - Ecclesiastics
3:1-11.This is for us to understand the time wherein we are, what we are
supposed to do and to do it.
In the evening session there was so much celebration of praises. The
International Coordinator had already declared the day as MPN Campus Chapter's
day. These young men and women were spurred in a great way to carry the vision
of God. They desired a car for this purpose. The church was encouraged by their
performance and they need our support for them to thrive.
Keep praying with us, Chinyelu Nwofulundu, Secretary, For Ministers Prayer
Network
