My thanks to all of you who are sending Christian
resource materials to the Pastors and Church Leaders in Mukinge, Zambia. I know
that every magazine, book and Bible will be greatly appreciated and read studied
by many. {for more information, visit http.://www.nppn.org and click on Global
Network ... Zambia}
My son-in-law sent this to me recently - May you be encouraged
by these words from a sociopolitical commentator...
ONWARD, CHRISTIAN MISSIONARIES
By William F. Buckley Jr.
The program initiated by sundry evangelical Christian ministers to accost Islam
by teaching the tenets of the Christian faith to those who seek to bring that
faith to Muslims is very good stuff, overdue. There is, of paramount concern to
them, the commanding message felt by these Protestant missionaries. One of them
put it this way to a reporter from The New York Times: "If I had the answer for
cancer, what sort of a human would I be not to share it?"
May we continue to learn from one another as God's Spirit leads us onward,
Pastor Phil

God is opening ministry doors for the network to network with
many more Pastors within this nation and outside this nation (ZAMBIA). The seed
of the vision of seeing our communities transformed by God’s power as a result
of Pastors praying through for their cities , and them, getting involved in all
the affairs of their city is been planted with no or less opposition in most of
the places I have been to the past weeks and months. And for this we give God
the glory.
In the month of May we had two major prayer events.
On the 1st May 2003 we had our city prayer rally in one of our
towns on the copper belt province . Even though the attendance was low but we
had one of the powerful rallies . We started this day by going to different
sites for prayers and prophetic actions. We felt the Lord wanted us to pray on
site with insight.
Straight after that we went to the football ground where many others were
gathered in readiness of the rally. It was during this rally that we had an
opportunity to repent as a church and the nation as a whole . The Lord led us to
repent of the following :
THE CHURCH
a. How the church has failed to fulfill her role in a nation that is covenanted
to God.
b. The lack of Godly leadership/ Spiritual Fathering and
Mentoring.
c. The pride and competition in church leadership.
d. Lack of unity and truth in Church leadership.
e. Love of money and self in church leadership.
f. Idolatry, Witchcraft and Rebellion in Church leadership.
g. Disobedience and Compromise in Church leadership.
h. Sexual Sins in Church leadership.
i. Lack of Prophetic Voice in the nation.
j. On behalf of the government , corruption/Misuse of
national/natural resources, lack of fear of God, lack of integrity and evil
covenants.
It was after a time of repentance that we went into a time of calling forth
of our city and national redemptive gifts. We did spend a good time praying in
God,s purposes for our city and nation.
It is also during this time of prayer that we did pray for Godly men and
women to be part of our present government ( God fearing men and women).
Our day was closed with praying for the whole of Africa .
Just after a month our present president appointed his vice
, a born again preacher of the word of God and God fearing.
4th –9th MAY 2003 We had a ladies / Pastors’ wives
conference and I was one of the main speakers. I was speaking on prayer and
spiritual warfare/deliverance .We had over 20 Pastors wives and over 700 women
coming together for this conference. The Lord moved in such a way that we saw
people been set free spiritually, emotionally , mentally and physically.
It was during this time that we went to pray for one of the schools. This is a
Girls Boarding School which had most of its students involved in Satanism,
indiscipline and a lot of fornication .
God did a miracle at this school after we went round to pray for it with Pastors
wives. It was during the same week that some of the students came to us to
testify of how for the first time in 5 years they were able to have peaceful
nights at the school without any disturbs from witches and nightmares . This was
not so in the past.
As I write this article I have been informed that the whole school has
changed , there is now discipline at the school. The school girls that were used
to sleeping out at the weekends are no longer doing so. There is just God’s
order that has covered the whole school, with teachers teaching while there is a
national teachers strike . This is a miracle . This is what prayer can do.
We have just finished a one week leaders conference in South
Africa. We had over 100 leaders come together from within South Africa and
outside South Africa. I was one of the speakers and I was speaking on CITY
ELDERS/FATHERS . I taught on their Role, Function and Position/Place .
With this I also taught on CITY GATES.
Out of this conference God has opened many other doors for the
network to network and establish pastors prayer groups in many different
townships throughout South Africa. This is a big breakthrough for the network.
I believe that God is looking for CITY ELDERS that will identify themselves with
their cities, that will see their cities from God’s view, that will fall in love
with their cities and are ready to die for it. God is looking for CITY ELDERS
that are prepared to hear God’s voice for their city and give direction as the
Lord leads. These are leaders that are ready to carry divine messages to the
kings of their cities and towns/communities. These are leaders that are ready to
spread themselves over areas (town/cities) of death until life comes back. God
is looking for CITY ELDERS that are ready to confront false works in their
cities and leaders that are ready to do the cleansing of their cities like in
the book of 2kings 23.
I also believe that God is raising CITY ELDERS with FATHER’S HEART that think
generational and are ready to father their cities not just their local churches.
PRAYER NEEDS/REQUESTS
a. Pray for our July through August 2003 first module school
of prayer and our rural area bible training program (mobile bible school)
b. URGENT!!!! COMPUTER : We are in need of one or
two computers for our network. At the moment we are operating without any.
c. URGENT!!!! MINISTRY VEHICLE: We are in need of
our own ministry vehicle to enable us travel to many places without
difficulties.
As you pray for us here, we ask you to be open to the Holy Spirit and feel free
to get in touch with us in anyway you feel led by the Holy Spirit to partner
with us .
GOD BLESS YOU.

According to ReligionJournal.com, nearly 450 Korean Southern Baptists made
commitments to overseas missions service May 10-11. They were among more than a
thousand people attending meetings at Berendo Street Baptist Church in Los
Angeles, the Baptist Press reported. The denomination's International
Missions Board conducted the meeting.
Asian-American missionaries often fit in where white Americans don't.
Asian-Americans "have some of the best access to the '10/40 window,'" the region
from Northwest Africa to Southeast Asia where people have little access to the
gospel, said Sund Park, Pastor of Berendo Street.
The Los Angeles conference was one of four being held among the 750
Korean-speaking Southern Baptist churches across the United States. Two of the
meetings were held in northern California and Dallas, and more than 300
Korean-Americans committed to overseas missions service.
"Koreans also are very, very low-maintenance," said Dan Moon, coordinator of
Asian-American church-planting with the North American Mission Board. "They are
committed, and they want to go whatever the cost."

I finished my prayer cycling pilgrimage from Egmond to Echternach. These two
places in the Netherlands and Luxemburg are linked by the ministry of the
Anglo-Celtic apostle Willibrord who brought the gospel to our lands in the 7th
century. I put a little report and some pictures online at http://marcsmessages.blogspot.com/#pilgrimage.

Islamic Sudan Gives Openings to Christianity
As a U.S. pastor develops a relationship with Sudan's president, the events are
increasing hope among Sudanese Christians.
Amid a warming of relations between the United States and Sudan, the
Islamic government of the African country continues to make extraordinary
openings for Christianity.
On May 18, Sudanese national satellite television broadcast a documentary film,
"Footsteps of Peace," about Christian-Muslim friendship. Because of its explicit
Christian content, "everyone who saw it (in advance) said it would be a miracle
if it ever aired," said Gary Kusunoki, pastor of Calvary Chapel-Santa Margarita,
Calif., and the film's producer.
Last week, Sudanese President Omar Hassan Bashir agreed to broadcast additional
Christian programs, and asked for Kusunoki's input on their content. Bashir also
has guaranteed the showing of the Campus Crusade for
Christ "Jesus" film on national
television in the next few weeks, Kusunoki said. It originally was scheduled to
be broadcast May 25 (see religionjournal.com 05/25/03).
Sudanese television is seen throughout the Middle East, reaching millions of
Muslims in countries that are officially closed to the gospel.
On May 21, a Sudanese court freed Samuel Dobai Amum, an
Episcopal pastor, from Soba Prison, near Khartoum. Amum had been imprisoned
since April 7 for refusing to tear down his church's building and surrender the
land to a Muslim political official, who the court ruled was its rightful owner.
Amum constructed the church on the outskirts of Khartoum before the land was
surveyed, and had occupied it since 1987. He is among the 4 million southern
Sudanese who have fled to the North to escape decades of civil war and famine.
According to Compass Direct, unclaimed land
on the outskirts of Khartoum has evolved from camps of displaced squatters into
registered plots allotted by the government to individual owners. Land where a
mosque has been established is considered community property, which is not the
case with Christian churches.
The court offered Amum the option of paying 7 million dinars ($3,700) to secure
the building and land in the name of the church, but he did not have the money.
He was to have remained in prison indefinitely. Bashir granted Kusunoki
permission to visit Soba Prison, where he met with Amum. The Sudanese pastor was
freed the next day, after Kusunoki and his ministry team added their personal
donations to money already raised by Amum's church, satisfying the court's
requirement.
In another development, plans are under way for an American soccer team
composed of Christians to play against Sudan's national team in two large
stadiums in Sudan Oct. 9-11. The Christian players will be allowed to give their
faith testimonies during halftime, Kusunoki told religionjournal.com. The
matches are expected to air on national Sudanese television and radio.
Kusunoki heads the aid group Safe Harbor International
Relief, which brings emergency food and water to Sudan and educates
pastors. Christian proselytizing is illegal in Sudan, but Bashir granted
Kusunoki permission to evangelize the people Safe Harbor helps ñ after Kusunoki
insisted that the group was going to anyway.
Other humanitarian and relief agencies working in southern Sudan also have
reported an improvement in Khartoum's attitude toward humanitarian efforts since
peace negotiations began, according to CNSNews.com.
Other than the political forces at work that are warming the relationship
between the United States and Sudan, Kusunoki said he doesn't know why he has
gained such favor with Bashir. "The only thing I can say is, it's the Lord. The
Lord has just opened the doors." He and Bashir have held hours-long "very
animated" discussions and debates about Christianity and Islam, and about the
role of religion in government. Kusunoki also spoke with several of Khartoum's
Islamic leaders during a visit last November.
Sudan's leaders have misconceptions about Americans and Christianity, including
the impression that the United States is controlled by a Christian government,
Kusunoki said.
Kusunoki is not naive about the Khartoum regime's record of brutality.
Sudan's civil war ñ between the Christian and animist South and the Islamic
North ñ cost a staggering 2 million lives, and the country gained the reputation
as "the world's most violent abuser of the right to freedom of religion and
belief," according to the United States Commission on
International Religious Freedom. Kusunoki has seen sites of massacres
and has watched government helicopter gunships attack civilians, he said. He has
testified before the U.S. Congress about atrocities in Sudan.
Kusunoki said he believes that Sudanese Islamic leaders, whose "hearts are
darkened" because they lack a relationship with Jesus Christ, are "capable of
anything."
In the 1990s, Sudan portrayed itself as a champion of worldwide militant Islam
and was branded by the United States as a sponsor of terrorism and a haven for
radicals, including Osama bin Laden. In 1998, after al-Qaida terrorists bombed
the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, the United States bombed a chemical
factory in Khartoum, claiming it was being used to manufacture chemical weapons
and was linked to bin Laden. Sudan denied the claims.
Sudan is on the U.S. list of nations that sponsor terrorism, a
designation that carries economic sanctions. Also listed are Cuba, Iran, Iraq,
Libya, North Korea and Syria.
However, after Sept. 11, 2001, Sudan, which had been a possible U.S. target
after Afghanistan, gave signs of cooperating with the West. Last October, the
government and the rebels signed an interim peace treaty, and U.S.-backed
negotiations aimed at ending the conflict are taking place in Kenya. The process
has been hindered by sporadic fighting, which has been blamed on both sides. A
report last month by the United States Commission on International Religious
Freedom detailed violations to the treaty, including attacks on civilian
targets.
Sudan's actions toward Kusunoki are part of a larger "show of good faith"
intended to help push the peace process forward, said Ken Tamplin, the musician
who did the soundtrack for "Footsteps of Peace."
Kusunoki, who is Asian-American, also has family ties to Sudan, since he and his
wife adopted two of their five daughters from the East African country. One of
the girls, a 9-month-old orphan, weighed 6 pounds and was so ill that she was
not expected to live to the end of the day. The other had been shot in the leg
while fleeing soldiers who had just "shot down her entire family in cold blood
in front of her," he said. The girl was taken to a hospital in Kenya, where
orthopedists found that the 4 inches of bone that had been shot away had grown
back, an occurrence the doctors described as miraculous. Both girls are doing
well in the United States.
The openings for Christianity are "things that have never happened before in
the history of Sudan," Kusunoki said. The airing of "Footsteps of Peace" has
caused a groundswell of hope among Christians in northern Sudan. "They thought
American Christians forgot about them. We haven't forgotten." Christians from
the South who have fled to the North constitute 15 percent of the population of
Khartoum.
Kusunoki said he will continue pursuing opportunities in Sudan. "The main thing
for me is that God gets the glory," he said. "Our only qualification is that
we're fools, and that God uses the foolish things of the world to confound the
wise."

Robert, our son, and I have just returned from India where we had some amazing
experiences! At a conference where they hoped for 200, there were 450! It was
the first of its kind in this area. We were told that 300 of them were saved
during the conference. Those 300 were counseled by pastors during an all day
discipleship session. Of them, it was concluded that 155 were ready to be
baptized. Of them, 60 were baptized on Sunday afternoon in a pond in the city.
We also preached the gospel in a jungle village where there are 62 baptized
believers in the past five months, the first there in history! We had seven more
ladies born again last Sunday night in that village as we shared the gospel.
Robert was awesome with his worship leading, teaching, ministries of healing,
and compassion. After we left we received the following email from Dr. Tom
Johnson, (Indian-American who lives in Houston) our partner:
"Dear Eddie and Robert,
This is to let you know that you left Kharapur at the right time. Police came in
search for you at the Hotel Park. You were ahead of them by few hours.
Otherwise, the so called authorities would have unnecessarily harassed you. I
really thank God for His protection. It seems that a secret police officer
attended our Sunday service. Some of the evangelists were questioned. Pastor
Chackravorty had many calls from the authorities. The whole community including
Hindu extremists came to know about our activities. Please pray for the
protection of Pastor C. and his family. “
----------------------------------------
Also, our new book Spiritual Housecleaning is really selling well. Apparently,
the best start of any book we've ever released. Amazon.com lists books by their
sales numbers. Last week we saw it go from number 2,000,000+ to number 331 in
two weeks! It's still hovering in the low thousands! We are amazed. There are
some truly challenging teachings in this book, not the least of which is on the
crucifix (the Catholic cross with the dead body of Jesus on it). It is raising
many questions, for which we are delighted. But we are also sensing a
personal/family spiritual assault as a result.
We certainly thank God daily for your faithfulness to pray for us and our
family. We are having many wonderful victories in our own individual lives and
the relationships within our family. For that we are truly grateful. Please
continue to pray God's protection and provision over us.
Thank you so very much. Alice sends her love!
Blessings! Eddie Smith, US Prayer Center

Three youths committed suicide by jumping from the 78 meter high
Göltzschtalbrücke at the end of August 2001, starting a sad series of suicides
in eastern Germany's Vogtland region. More and more people jumped, in a form of
'suicide tourism'. The bridge became known as 'Death Bridge', according to the
Bild newspaper. In August 2002, local Christians started praying against this
obviously demonic trend. They prayed nonstop for five months that the bridge
would no longer be a place where people sought death. "The Christians also
prayed for the Police and border guards performing their difficult jobs, and
that God would position angels to prevent people jumping... Between May and
September 2002, sixteen people wanted to put an end to their life by jumping
from the bridge - but were unable! Many of them said 'I had made up my mind to
jump, but for some reason, I couldn't do it!' In August 2002, another two people
jumped, probably Satanists, but the local Christians were not discouraged. More
people joined for prayer on the bridge than in the churches," report Thomas and
Uta Hascher from Reichenbach's Jesus Church.

A prayer event held on Saturday June 28 drew hundreds of people to pray for the
oppressed people of North Korea.
Some 300 people went to the event held in Westminster Chapel, London, England,
and were encouraged to pray in an opening address by Joel Edwards, General
Director of the Evangelical Alliance UK.
CSW initiated the week of prayer in partnership with Release International, Open
Doors UK, Jubilee Campaign and Asialink. The Hanbeet Korean Choir performed
songs and several Korean Church leaders and Christians led prayers.
People were encouraged to pray in small groups, to put prayer stickers on a map
of North Korea, to write prayers against specific violations of religious
freedom and even to spend a short time in a tiny cage remembering more than
100,000 people held in prison camps inside North Korea. Video clips, a CD-Rom
and music led by Dave Bilbrough all supported the prayer focus.
Gerald Coates, Team Leader of Pioneer Trust, Julie Anderson, Roger Forster and
Eddie Lyle, Executive Director of Release International all led prayers for the
persecuted Church in North Korea.
Resources such as a video, CD-Rom and the CSW North Korea country report were
available for people to take away and use for future prayer meetings and people
were encouraged to sign a petition to the UN High Commission for Human Rights
calling for an end to the widespread human rights abuses in North Korea. There
were also stands staffed by representatives from Release International, Open
Doors and Jubilee Campaign.
Similar events were held in Glasgow, Swansea, Lisburn, Sutton Coldfield,
Richmond in Surrey, Raynes Park in London, Birmingham and Bawtry. Prayer
meetings focusing on North Korea were also held in Seoul, Zurich and Los
Angeles.
Churches across the UK were encouraged to remember the people of North Korea in
their prayers during the week.
Mervyn Thomas, Chief Executive of CSW, said: "It was really encouraging to see
so many people committed to praying for North Korea. It was also a privilege to
work in partnership with other agencies and with the South Korean churches in
the UK. We have faith that God will hear our united prayers and that we will see
release for the suffering and oppressed people of North Korea."

Communications Manager, by email at richard.chilvers@csw.org.uk or visit
