From:     “Andrew Murray” <AndrewMurray@yebo.co.za>

In the Vaalharts Irrigation Area, about 120 km north of Kimberley, God used the ‘Transformations’ video to get about 20 pastors together for prayer, reconciliation and relationship building on a monthly basis. For the first time in the history of this region, as far as we know, have Tswana, Afr and Eng church leaders assembled in this way. The first meeting in Feb was at a prestigious local hotel, sponsored by two farmers, yet since then we have resorted to humbler abodes like church halls and vestries.

Please pray with us for the on-going process, as the desired outcomes include united youth evangelism and discipleship, which is already been done under the auspices of a local initiative called Christian Youth Outreach (CYO), involving a couple of local churches supporting a full-time youth worker, with an organising secretary supported by Pretoria Central Baptist church.  About 40 schools have started weekly CYO clubs, where teachers present Bible lessons, or learners themselves arrange a programme.  Regular camps are held, as well as Holiday Outreaches.

Blessings on your work, Andrew Murray

*SIBIU, ROMANIA: PPG

>From: Marcu Corneliu <mailto:corneliu@sibnet.ro> Greetings in the Lord Jesus Christ!

Yes, there is a Pastors’ weekly prayer meeting that is being held every Tuesday Morning at 10 am. There are pastors from almost all churches in the city participating in it (also some elders or deacons). I do not participate regularly in it, due to my schedule and responsibilities in the new planted Philadelphia Church. This church we have started is located in the Apartments’ Area of the city, where there is no Evangelical church to a population of almost 100.000 people! So we started in the building of the Christian High School with a group of believers and, after one year of prayer, fasting and hope, the Lord has given us a good property with a small house in that very expensive area! The Lord is good!

Right now we are fixing up the house in order to function well as a Prayer House and to move there in the shortest time possible. People are excited and willing to take over that area for Christ and let all of them know about the Gospel of Christ in a one year period! What a job, my brother, and what a responsibility and joy to see such enthusiasm in the last year of the Second Christian Millennium!

We deal with some resources (material and financial) problems, but the Lord never let us down! He is lifting us up all the time! Therefore we praise him all the days of our life for he is faithful and good. Amen.

Corneliu and Mihaela Marcu

*SPAIN: YOUTH PRAYER MOVEMENT

>From: “Joel News International” <joel-news-international@XC.Org>

24-7, a non-stop prayer meeting for youth, is moving around the globe.  Coordinator Pete Greig reports from Spain: “The island of Ibiza is the club-music capital of Europe, so riddled with sex, drugs and alcohol that the UK media refer to it as ‘Sodom and Gomorrah’. What a great place for the gospel! We’ve been invited a to bring a team of clubbers, D.J.’s and intercessors to Ibiza this summer to help a church pray 24-7 during the party season. We can hardly believe it. God’s pace is breath-taking (literally). I’m sitting in a basement in Valladolid, Spain, tapping away on my laptop. The sense of God’s presence is strong. 50 Spanish young people just prayed and wept their way through the night here. The scene is by now familiar: a candle flickering, artwork everywhere, coffee-cups and assorted c.d.’s scattered on the floor, maps and stuff on the wall. In the corner a girl is kneeling and praying silently. I realised that something unusual was taking place when we arrived here at the remarkable ‘Contra Corriente’ conference 2 days ago. This guy came up to me and said that it had been his task to translate an interview I’d given a few weeks ago for the conference magazine, but he kept breaking down in tears. He had then e-mailed the piece to his brother at work who felt compelled to leave his office and go to the mountains to pray for the rest of the day. Then, last night, God reminded me of something prayed 9 years ago whilst hitching my way through this very city as a long-haired student. My prayer had been:

‘Lord where is the army, where are your people here in Spain?’ (I’d been asking this because a few nights earlier I had experienced the most definitive vision of my life in which I had ‘seen’ an army of young people gathering across Europe). So, last night, as I stood in front of this ‘army’ of 1,000 young people I suddenly remembered that prayer, and realised I was looking at the answer. I felt God saying ‘Pete, I never forget a single prayer you pray, even though you do.’ The response to the talk was incredible. Many of you would recognise the scene because it’s what we are seeing again and again:

·       Hundreds choosing to miss their dinner to pray

·       Many crying and calling out to God for their friends, others being ministered to deeply, and of course the 50 who continued all night.

In reality, this was nothing to do with my talk. Only the Spirit can make

50 people pray all night. One leader said: ‘This is exactly what we need

right now in Spain, a prayer movement for the young people that can

mobilise them to make history.’ So many groups are planning to pray 24-7

here in Spain we realised we would have to help them, but how? Once again,

God was one step ahead of us. As I worried about the practicalities, a YWAM

missionary, Jonah Bailey, leant over and told me that God had told him and

his wife prior to the weekend to give their time to work for 24-7 in Spain,

supporting churches and translating resources. God is obviously hiring

people without telling me!  Source: 24-7

*SURF’S UP...WAY UP!

From:     “Crosswalk.com” <editor@crosswalk.com>

...A modern breed of missionaries is armed with a Bible and a surfboard (see link #1 below). About 75 surfers from Australia, the United States, New Zealand, South Africa, Tahiti, Portugal, France, Germany, England, Japan, Mexico, and Costa Rica met in Santa Cruz, Calif., in February. They spent five days swapping stories about reaching out to a group of people who have little or no contact with the Gospel. The meeting was the 4th international conference of Surf Ministries International (see link #2 below).

...There are 500,000 surfers in Japan who are “virtually a totally unreached people group,” Australian Brett Davis, director of Christian Surfers International (see link #3 below), said.  Some Christian surfers are cross-cultural missionaries, he said.  For example, “surfers regularly infiltrate the Maldives, known as one of the most closed nations on earth to the Gospel.” ...”It is the surfers who are often the first tourists to come into an unreached area and others follow later,” Davis said. He and his wife and three children had an “endless summer” experience last year, traveling around the world visiting “surfing mission outposts.”

...Now in its 16th year, Australia’s Jesus Pro Am surfing contest is being held in Bendalong, New South Wales, May 20-21. One hundred twelve professional and amateur surfers are competing for prizes totaling $11,000. Churches up and down the coast have assisted in a variety of ways, from baking cakes to donating equipment, organizers said.

*MANIPUR, INDIA: THE POWER OF GENERATIONAL REPENTANCE

>From: w_lau@juno.com

>By William Lau, The Elijah Challenge

In 1894 William and Elizabeth Pettigrew, American Baptist missionaries from Ireland, brought the gospel to the spirit-worshipping headhunters of Manipur who inhabited the northeast corner of India.  Their initial foray brought them to the Mao people, one of several Naga tribes who originated from China many centuries ago.  The Mao people rejected the Pettigrews and their gospel message.  Eventually they turned to a neighboring Naga tribe called the Tangkul who welcomed the gospel. When the Tangkul gave up their animistic practices to enter into a personal relationship with Christ, God blessed them with a standard of living and health that became the envy of their neighbors, the Maos.  Eventually many Mao people accepted Christianity to get these outward benefits without understanding the priority of spiritual regeneration.  The anticipated benefits didn’t materialize and the Mao people remained backward and weak.

According to a Mao leader, by the late 1920s the Mao tribe knew they had made a mistake when they refused the white missionaries. But those who became Christians did so just to get material blessings from the Lord.  And since they lacked solid Bible teaching their Christianity became just another thread in the fabric of their predominantly animistic culture.  Their faith was lifeless, powerless, and institutionalized.  To make things worse, the government had sealed off the area from foreigners because of violence between tribes.  No foreign missionary had ever spent more than a day among the Mao people to teach them.  But God had not forgotten them.  In the Mao tribe He had kept a remnant of believers who would humble themselves before Him. Among them was a prominent medical doctor and his wife, Dr. Lorho and Apinao Pfozhe.

These believers, the leaders of the churches, were convinced that the stubborn backwardness of their tribe was due to their ancestors’ rejection of the gospel.  They set aside land for a House of Prayer and a Prayer Mountain. During a week of prayer and fasting in 1994, these Mao leaders dedicated their entire tribe to God in repentance for the sin of their ancestors.  The Lord heard their cries.

In October, 1999, God sent Brent Knapton, Steve Klinker, and their team from Window of Opportunity into the area. During this one-day trip they led the Mao leaders in a prayer service of identificational repentance to God for the sins of their ancestors.  Brent repented on behalf of the British who had colonized the Nagas and the Maos on behalf of their forbears who had rejected the gospel.  The curse was broken...

God heard the believers who had come together in unity to repent and seek healing for their tribe.  He sent us, giving us the privilege of bringing blessing, healing, and restoration.  I am planning to return in October 2000 to teach about the Holy Spirit and His ministry. Let us pray that God will send more workers to the Mao people to help the leaders teach and disciple the believers in preparation for an even greater endtime harvest.

*WELLINGTON, SOUTH AFRICA: ANDREW MURRAY PRAYERS

>From: Jacques Truter <jtruter@mweb.co.za>

I have started a Christian retreat centre in Wellington, South Africa.  I wouldn’t call myself a pastor but I have a heart to care for the need of pastors and missionaries.  Being permanently in a ministry I do understand the importance of prayer and prayer cover.  I would therefore like to thank you for the fact that you listened to the Lord in adhering to this call.

I would also like to be in touch in future regarding feedback on the “success stories” of prayer all over the world.  If I can send request through this network, I would also like to make use of the opportunity.

Wellington is the town were Andrew Murray pastored.  It is also the place where the revival started in South Africa in the 1860’s under his leadership.  A group of us are praying for revival in this town.  If there are pastor on your network and churches that can help us pray, we would only be to grateful.  We are also praying and starting to build a prayer house and retreat centre on the mountains outside the town.  We need prayer cover and monies for that.

God Bless, Jacques Truter

*PRAYERWALKING IN BOSNIA AND KOSOVO

>From: lifeunlimited@juno.com

I would appreciate NPPN subscribers lifting us up in prayer as we leave with 20 university students on Tuesday, May 23, for three weeks of ministry in Sarajevo, Bosnia, and Karlovac, Croatia.

While we will be working with children, youth, churches, and refugees from the Bosnian and Kosovo conflicts, we will be devoting much of our time to aggressive prayer walking and continuing our efforts to assist in developing a nation-wide prayer movement in those two countries.  We first initiated that in October, 1998, and will be following up with more encouragement and training.

Pray for our team as they distribute food, clothing, and reading glasses to refugees, evangelize, disciple, and train youth, and target specific areas of Sarajevo and Karlovac for prayer walking intercession.  We will be traveling May 23 to 26, be in Sarajevo May 27 to June 7, in Karlovac June 8 to 11, and then traveling home June 12 to 15.

In Christ’s Bond,

Bob Tolliver ---- Rom 1:11-12 ---- Life Unlimited Ministries

*JESUS DAY PREVIEW: 50,000 WALK IN BERLIN >From: “Crosswalk.com” <editor@crosswalk.com> ...Fifty thousand Christians walked through the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin May 20, praying and praising God. Their colorful procession was part of “Jesus Day,” said idea, the German evangelical news agency. Tourists and Berliners “marveled at the happy, praying crowd,” the publication said.

...Marchers surrounded the center of Berlin in two columns. They stopped to pray at sites such as the Parliament building, the Reichstag, Charité hospital, theaters, commercial centers, churches, a synagogue, and the site of the future holocaust memorial. The two columns rejoined in front of the “red town hall” in what used to be East Berlin, and despite heavy rain many knelt to worship, praise God, confess sins, and rededicate their lives. The day ended with a large party in honor of the 2,000th birthday of Jesus Christ, and all Berliners were invited to enjoy the modern Christian music.

...Jesus Day was organized for the first time by a coalition of charismatics, Pentecostals, Baptists, Methodists, Pietists, Lutherans, and Catholics, idea said. Traditional evangelicals in Germany so far have kept their distance from the Pentecostal and charismatic movements, the publication said. The Protestant bishop of Berlin, Wolfgang Huber, joined in.

...The march took place three weeks before the international March for Jesus (see link #1 below), June 10, so as not to conflict with traditional evangelical youth meetings at Pentecost. Fifteen million Christians around the world are expected to take part in the marches for Jesus, said Gerald Coates, one of the initiators of the march.

*NEW ZEALAND: ONLY BEGINNING BUT GOD IS BLESSING

>From: “Pat White” <pwhite@wave.co.nz>

I am only beginning to do this work among my churches but can report that God is certainly blessing in a mighty way.  There is a great hunger for an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and I pray that He will send rivers of water over the desert of barren lives and bring them to life through the ministry of prayer partnerships.

Because I come from a very small church where I am an elder and the only musician, I feel I can only afford to be away 2 weeks a month and am already booked up to preach and teach till November.  I could do this full time the need is so great, and am praying that the Lord will send another organist/pianist and bring souls into our church that will worship and praise Him.  I preach on how to have a more powerful prayer life (by using praise), sing “I’ll Praise His Name” and give my personal testimony of God’s special healing and grace in my life, and then conduct a seminar on prayer partnerships etc during the afternoon.  These have been greatly appreciated by the church members and I praise the Lord that He has called me to this ministry.

I have not registered yet as I am the prayer coordinator for the North Island of New Zealand for the Seventh-day Adventist Churches and do not know whether it is my address you require or all the pastors of the churches where I have spoken.  I am unsure whether I have the authority to release their addresses but am happy for you to use mine.

I have been invited to attend the Prayer Summit 2000 at Loma Linda, California on July 5-9 and am praying that the Lord will provide as I do not have the means to go myself.  Virginia Collins who is the prayer coordinator for the South-eastern Californian Conference is one of my prayer partners and we pray together on email.  God continues to use her and her husband in a mighty way in their churches.  She has sent me some manuals which have been a great help in getting started and useful for photocopying as handouts to people who attend the seminars.

Over 3 years ago 3 of us ladies at church met each week for an hour before the usual prayer meeting to pray about the needs of the church family, pastor and family, outreach programmes, community needs etc.  We made up lists of names to pray for and have since enlarged the numbers of people for whom we pray on a regular basis.  God has now called 2 of the ladies into literature evangelism and me into prayer ministry.  Just imagine what would happen in our country if every church had 2 or 3 people who met regularly to pray and praise the Lord!  These are exciting times and God’s glory will be revealed in the lives of His children.  They will be empowered to witness for Him as they rise to the challenge of taking His love to a sinsick world.  And then Jesus will come and we will live with Him for ever, glory, hallelujah!  If I don’t see you before, I’ll look for you then.

May the Lord richly bless you.  With Christian love, Pat White

*SOUTHERN AFRICA: PRAY FOR THE PASTORS

>From: mertaka@everybody.org (Mert Hershberger)

Thank you for your faithful prayers and support. The pastors we train are a joy to work with, always asking questions, and exploring ways to apply what they are learning. So far, 25 have been saved through the church in Moodies.  Marge is discipling a small group of women. Pray for her as she tries to work with the language and literacy barriers. Pray for me as I coach a group of young pastors in discipleship and church planting.  Also, on June 9, I and others will be driving to Malawi and Mozambique  to make some positive contacts with the Makua people in northern Mozambique, and help organize 40 churches into the Missionary Church of Malawi.  -  Please pray for continued daily protection.  Pray for the pastors we are training:

(1) that they will be able to attend the training, (2) that they will understand the Biblical principles we are teaching, and (3) that they will be able to apply what they have learned.  Pray for the new church in Moodies. We are spiritually mapping  Emjindini (the township nearest to us), to prepare for the church plant there. Pray that we will successfully bind the demonic strongholds there. Pray that our church planting team will be successful in making disciples and developing strong core groups from those disciples.  Pray that we will be able to raise scholarships enabling needy pastors to receive the training. Thank the Lord for the scholarships already raised.—Richard Greene

Liberty Plains Pastors Prayer Group, Sydney, New South Wales. We are a new PPG meeting just 7 Kilometers from the Olympics site at homebush. We have been meeting just 2 months. We are believing God for great things in our region of the city. Liberty Plains is not a name that appears on current maps. It was the name given to this area by the first white settlers over 150 years ago. Most of the early settlers were convicts who had served their time of imprisonment and on release were granted plots of land in Liberty Plains. To day we seek a different kind of liberty for the people of many nations who live in our area. We do not have to go the 10/40 window. They have come to us. Pray for us.

>From: “Impact Prayer Ministries” <impactprayermin1@hotmail.com>

>From: “Lars Widerberg” <lw.pray@swipnet.se>

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Thank you, brothers and sisters, for your participation in the life of

Russia. We believe that prayer can influence the history and development ofdifferent events in our nation. We are thankful that you pray for us and for our country. Last month, May of 2000, became famous for the inauguration that took Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin was inaugurated as President of Russia.

God spoke to one of the pastors and he came forth to prophesy about Russia: “I see Russia bathed in the color red, but it is not the red color of communism or of people’s blood. It is red because of the fire of revival and because of the blood of Jesus, that will cover the sins of the  people and the nation”. Soon after that a woman who came to our church from Moscow, came forth and confirmed that some time ago she had received the same word from the Lord. Amen, Lord! May Your revival flow into all of Russia.

He was seeking help in one of the churches in our region, but they were not able to help him. Leonid was depressed, and he had no money or food. So he stole. Three days later God brought him to our church. We helped him to find a job and a place to live.  He became active in the church. We are making efforts and appealing to the authorities, asking them not to put Leonid in prison again. Please pray with us for Leonid, and ask God to show him His mercy”.

Let’s pray for God’s fire in the hearts of the believers. Pray for every one of them to find his place in the Body of Christ and serve  Him with joy and boldness.

Let’s pray for the city of Pechora in the Komi Republic of Russia. This place was formerly called Kanino. The word “kan” in the Manci language means “place for sacrifice”. There are only 100 evangelical Christians in this city.  Let’s pray for the “Church of Grace” in the city of Pechoraand its pastor, Sergei Anphalov.

Alexei Kuschenko, pastor of the “Way Toward Truth” Church in the city of Irkutsk ask us to pray for their ministry to drug addicts According to official statistics there are 40-50 thousand drug addicts in this city, and 70 % of them are infected with AIDS. Half a year ago this church organized a rehabilitation center for drug addicts. Former drug addicts who were set free by God in such centers are serving there. Now there are 19 drug addicts in this center, 6 of them are ready to serve others. The Church plans to open 2-3 more centers like this in the city and in the region.  Let’s pray for financial provision for this project, for buildings, and finances in order to start the work.

Let’s pray for Alexei Anisimov, pastor of “Togliatti Christian Center”Church. He is also a presbyter over several churches. Ask the Lord to give him and his wife, Nina, even more wisdom to deal with all the situations and problems they face. Pray for their protection. Pray also for their daughter, Olesya, who serves as a missionary in the city of Sukhoy Log.
