A prayer
request is for our ministry of reconciliation and unity (Gerico 2000) in the
body of Christ in Italy. Dawn and I are going to start a weekly (Thursdays)
meeting of prayer/intercession and worship in our home. We will be inviting all the pastors, lay
leaders and believers from all of the churches around here to join us. Please,
please, please pray for this issue and also invite others that you know to pray
as well. This will be an ongoing request, as we will be a weekly meeting. Some
people have shared interest in doing this, but no commitments have been made.
We know that the enemy is a like a lion, seeking to devour and that he will do
his best to discourage and stop this prayer initiative. We also know that our
God is greater than our enemy.... and that we can overcome because HE - Christ alone
- is able!!
We would
like to remind you that there are ongoing needs for the ministry expenses of
Gerico 2000, which is growing in the number of mailing list subscribers. For
those of you who do not know, it is the first and only Italian language, e-mail
bulletin offering news reports on prayer and church growth from all over the
world. It’s aim is to reach Italian leaders, pastors, intercessor> and other
Christians (such as missionaries) with a heart for prayer and vision for
revival in Italy. The reports are meant to encourage, challenge, and inform the
Italian speaking body of Christ. Also, the purpose of Gerico 2000 (http://www.digilander.iol.it/gerico2000/index.htm)
is to help initiate or to identify and encourage any existing pastors’ prayer
groups in cities and communities across Italy so that pastors can lead their
people into praying for and sharing Christ with everyone in the nation of
Italy. This is the visible work of Gerico 2000. But besides the long distance
phone calls, much of the work and expenses is actually making contact and
networking with pastors and individuals, leaders throughout Italy. This takes
time and travel, and simply put, building relationships. Furthermore, many,
many more pastors do NOT have e-mail here. So, please be in prayer for the
finances needed to do what is needed. Pray that we would continue to hear and
obey the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Love ya’ll,
Ross & Dawn and children

URGENT CALL TO PRAYER FOR SUDAN
>From: “Ramon
A Williams”
>From:
Carol Lowes
The
Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) is calling on the Canadian Church to set
aside Sunday, April 30, 2000 as a special day of prayer for Sudan.
A
17-year civil war is pitting the National Islamic Front government against a
southern Sudanese population of Christians and animists. In its conduct, the
Sudanese government flagrantly violates international and humanitarian law. It
forbids food and humanitarian aid; it reportedly uses internationally
prohibited weapons, including chemical weapons and cluster bombs; it
intentionally bombs civilian targets like hospitals and schools. Now, in what appears to be a “final solution”
plan, the government is stepping up its attacks on the southeastern region of
the Nuba mountains.
A report
from Foreign Affairs Minister Lloyd Axworthy’s special envoy John Harker has
confirmed that the presence of a Canadian company, Talisman Energy Inc., is
exacerbating the conflict. Harker found that Talisman’s air strip is being used
by Sudanese government forces for military purposes and thousands of southern
Sudanese are being taken into slavery or forcibly removed from the oil-rich
regions. Yet the Canadian government has done nothing to hold Talisman
accountable or to bring the matter to the United Nations Security Council while
Canada held the Council’s presidency in April. In the meantime, another
Canadian company, Fosters Resources Ltd., has announced it has reached an
agreement to develop an oil concession in Sudan.
Please
pray for:
·
our
brothers and sisters in the Lord who are suffering in Southern Sudan or in
refugee camps in surrounding countries.
·
Canada’s
complicity in this genocide. By investing in Talisman or Fosters, shareholders
are participating in these horrific events. Talisman is holding its annual
shareholders’ meeting on May 3 in Calgary. Please pray that the company’s
executives, including President Jim Buckee, would acknowledge the harm being
done by their company and decide to cease their operations in Sudan until a
just and equitable peace settlement can be achieved.
·
Pray
that Minister Axworthy would act courageously to show that Canadians do not
tolerate their companies seeking profit from tragedies around the world.
Despite
lobbying, rallies, meetings, letter-writing campaigns and other measures, the
people of Southern Sudan continue to suffer. And Canadian corporations and the
Canadian government carry on with business as usual.
Please
join us in prayer on April 30, and share this call to prayer with your
congregation, other churches, and friends.

*KUI OF
THAILAND
>From: “Kui”
This is a
Prayer Update for the Kui of Thailand.
1. The Kui or is considered one of the unreached
people groups of Thailand.
Pray
they would be reached through a church planting movement!
2. Pray for Pastor Supasorn, the only full time
Kui pastor in Samrongthap.
3. Pray for growth in the three Kui churches;
Samrongthap, Baan Nonghaan, and Baan Bing.
4. Pray for Christ to send forth laborers into
the harvest field of the Kui of Thailand.
5. In Jesus name, pray that the Holy Spirit
would be lifted up and for victory in the spiritual battle where the Kui are
engulfed with animistic beliefs and the entrapment of Buddhism.
6. Please pray for the production of a Jesus
Film in the Kui language.
7. Pray for 7 villages that will see the Jesus
Film in Thai, for the first time. Pray for decisions to be made for Jesus
Christ.
8. Pray the Kui Christians would fervently share
their faith, despite criticism.
9. Pray for the Christians that are working or
that are considering to work with the Kui.
10. Pray for a church planting movement among the
Kui of Thailand and that Jesus would be lifted up as the Kui share their faith
and start new churches.
The Kui
Thailand population is Estimated at 500,000. The Kui live in southern part
Northeast Thailand, also known as Isaan. Surin and Sisaket Provinces boast the
largest population of Kui.
The Kui
speak Kuy, which is a language with some roots in Cambodian Khmer languages.
Though the Kui have their own language it is not a written language. Tradition
is that five Kui men from a village were writing the language down on pigskin,
when they were finished however a dog came and ate the pigskin. Kuy is only
spoken in the home and the market place but not taught in schools.
The Kui
are known first and foremost in Thailand as elephant hunters. Most Kui are rice
farmers and many women raise silk worms and weave silk. Some will have cattle
and water buffalo to herd as well. The Kui live in small villages in mostly rural
areas, though some have made their way to the city. The village homes rage from mere shacks to nice 2 story homes.
The majority of the homes are built on wooden stilts. The ground level is a
storage place with a dirt floor, a gathering area for visitors, with the silk workspace
and restrooms if they even have one. The one room upstairs is where the Kui
family sleeps in humble accommodations by many standards. Most villages do not have running water and
therefore the main water source is rainwater.
Each
village varies in degree of animistic and Buddhist. Sometimes the two are
combined. One elephant village even worships an elephant spirit and have
erected a temple. The Kui believe in reincarnation and that there are spirits
everywhere. The spirits need to be kept happy in order to prevent the spirits
from causing accidents in the village. So the spirits are offered food, drinks,
and other items to appease them. Less than 1% of Thailand’s Kui are Christians.
The New Testament and 75% of the Old Testament has been translated into Kui
along with the Four Spiritual Laws and some discipleship materials.

5,000 people in three cities professed faith in Christ last fall because of
outreaches held by churches in cooperation with Monrovia, Calif.-based African

the ministry said.
...Churches

students, prisoners, and the poor. More than 200 prisoners and guards professed
faith in Christ at an event at a local prison in Akosombo, African Enterprise
said.
...Churches
in Nyahururu began their outreach with a citywide clean-up day. More than 1,500 people picked up trash in
public parks and cleaned sidewalks. Cleaning up a city shows government

We
request prayer for the working we are doing with starving children in Mozambique
and Angola. This week a container of meals arrived in Angola, praise the Lord.
But we need assistance for our children in Mozambique in the midst of the
flood.
Our
project here in Chicago is Feed My Starving Children Metro Chicago and we need
the help of the Lord to see more doors open to help in providing meals and
packing those meals for starving children around the world. The prayers of
pastors and their churches would be a great blessing to us. As our volunteer
program is to assist youth groups and believers of all ages here have a hands
on experience in providing meals for needy children around the world. We
provide life changing meals and the gospel. Blessings, Eldon Tracy.

When you pray for these requests, please ask the Lord to involve local pastors,
with a result that they will continue to serve and pray together...

*NORTH
AMERICA: ONLY NOT-GROWING CONTINENT
>From: “Crosswalk.com”
>By
Rodney E. Penn
“North
America is the only continent in the world where Christianity is not growing,”
said David Putman, leadership training associate with the Southern Baptist
North American Mission Board. “How are we to respond to the massive spiritual
needs of North America?” asked Putman April 11 at Midwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Mo. One extreme would be to ignore it by
doing business as usual, Putnam said, borrowing from Albert Einstein: “Insanity
is doing the same old thing the same old way and expecting different results.”
A second response, Putnam told a chapel audience, is found in Psalm 20:7, “Some
boast in chariots and some in horses, but we will boast in the name of the Lord
our God.” Explaining that Christians often trust in large membership rolls,
leadership, agencies and institutions, he said, “If we’re ever going to
experience the renewal and awakening that we need in North America it is going
to be a God thing.” Christians must recognize anew the power in the gospel,
Putnam said. “I sense that it’s easy as a believer to forget that the power is
in nothing else but the gospel of Jesus Christ. Perhaps we need to remember
that the power is not in the messenger.” Preachers nevertheless should
communicate “a hearable gospel,” Putnam continued, noting, “There are two kinds
of fields out there, sowing fields and harvesting fields,” as reflected in
Romans 10. The challenge, he said, is
that “we often assume by attitude and method that we are in harvesting fields.”
But, he said, “We must first plow, seed and water the fields before we can
reasonably expect to gather a harvest. “Unfortunately,
most churches just sit back and wait for people to come play on our court,”
Putnam said. Underscoring the need to preach the gospel “in season and out of
season,” Putman said, “Most of us have been trained and understand how to
preach it in season; bring the flock together, bring the crowd together.” By
focusing on ministry “out of season,” however, those who are hungry for the
bread of life can be helped, he said. “Are we willing to invest ourselves and
pay the price, no matter what the cost, to love lost people unconditionally?”
Putman
asked.

*PASTOR’S
CALL TO A DAY OF PRAYER FOR ZIMBABWE
>From: “Ramon

>The
Religious Media Agency
>From:
Chris Catlin
-----Original
Message-----
>From:
Downs
A
situation of crisis exists in Zimbabwe and people who should be nation building
together in unity, are involved in contention.
The spirit
of excellence in African statesmanship, so well defined by Mandela and Tutu,
needs to be upheld. The concept of an African Revival needs to be reinforced
and we must stand united and pray for reconciliation amoungst black and white
and black and black in Zimbabwe. The battle is not black against white or vice
versa, not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers and
spiritual wickedness in high places.
Reports
of just, fair people in the nation who have always stood for righteousness and
what is Godly, and how they are escaping the hand of wrath are reaching our
ears. We want to see free and fair democratic rule in the nation. A chance for
wrongs to be corrected and change to come about in a fair manner, and with the
human rights of all being considered.
Rev.
Kenneth Meshoe has joined the call to all pastors and religious leaders
across the
world to issue their own call to prayer on Sunday the 30th April
2000. To
stand united in their services and hold the nation of Zimbabwe up
before God
for his peace and divine intervention. We are asking you to fast
and Pray
much
Pastor
won’t you call your flock to pray and intercede for all of the people of
Zimbabwe who have known such hardship and are hovering on the brink of further
serious problems. Do not pray for one group, but pray for them all.
We would
like you to add your Pastor’s endorsement to the day of prayer. You can do this
by sending your endorsement either directly to your local Newspaper, asking
them to feature all of the pastors in your City who are endorsing the call to
Prayer, or you can send it to the e-mail address Pray4Zimbabwe@africamail.com and
we will send it on with a list of endorsing pastors and clergymen.

AUSTRALIA: PRAYER, THEN A PARADE
>From: “Crosswalk.com”
...Thousands
of Australian Christians took part in “Resurrection Marches” on Easter. Parades
across the country were part of Reclaim Easter, an annual event to publicly celebrate
the resurrection of Christ.
...A
parade in Sydney featured huge puppets representing Jesus and the disciples.
Hundreds of pigeons, symbolizing the resurrection, were released before the
march, said Awakening 2000, an evangelistic group. Ethnic dancers performed for
the crowds and people carried balloons and sang. Parades were led by donkeys to
commemorate Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem on a donkey and were
broadcast via satellite to all regions of the country. Anglican Archbishop Harry
Goodhew delivered a message from Sydney.
...Thousands
of Australians prayed all night on Good Friday during scores of outdoor vigils.
Christians of many denominations recited prayers written by children across the
country, Awakening 2000 said. Hundreds of thousands of Christians have
participated in the event in the past 11 years, the group said.

*CAMBODIA: “THE
GOD WHO HUNG ON A CROSS”
>From: “Crosswalk.com”
...Miracles
are turning people to Christ in Cambodia, where only about 1% of the population
is Christian, said Advance, a publication of the Foursquare Gospel Church.
...Residents
of two villages professed faith in Christ after a display of God’s power,
Advance said. In one village residents asked a missionary pastor to pray for
rain for their newly planted crops, while in a nearby village residents asked
him to pray that God would stop the rain until their crops were planted. For the next week, rain fell on the village
that had planted its crops, but not on the other village, the publication said.
People in both villages declared themselves Christians and were baptized.
...People
in another village have worshiped “the God who hung on the cross” for more than
20 years not knowing the name Jesus Christ, a Cambodian pastor said. The
village in Khampong Thom province had been under Khmer Rouge control until this
year, pastor Daniel Em said. But the Gospel was warmly received in the area, “almost
like the people were primed, expecting the truth,” he said.
...God
spared the villagers from being massacred by Khmer Rouge soldiers in the 1970s,
when the Marxist regime killed 1.7 million people, an elderly woman told Em.
Town residents, including the women, were forced to dig their own graves and
the soldiers were prepared to shoot them, she said, but they began crying “to
any god who could help them.” Some cried to Buddha and some to other gods, but
she cried out to “the God who hung on a cross,” she said.
...Huddled
together, waiting for the gunshots, they all saw a vision of a cross, she said.
They heard a voice telling them that they had been spared and that “no one else
can save you but Me,” she said. When they opened their eyes the soldiers were
gone. >From then on they worshiped
the God who saved them but did not know about Christ until Em preached to them,
he said. “Now they know Jesus by name and they are starting a church. The old
woman is very happy, as she has waited for this day for 20 years.”

*NORWAY,
WAY PAST THE ARCTIC CIRCLE
From: Fern Noble
We {
myself & an intercessor friend} went to Norway to pray for the land and its
people, from the Northern town of Alta, all the way to the southern town of
Thomsa. Spoke our greeting in 7 churches and in some places shared a little of
our story.
In the
north { way past the arctic circle} we visited the town of Kautokeino with the
Samii people. What a joy to attend a wedding upon our arrival and see the whole
churh dressed in their colorful traditional dress and out of the midst of this
crowd appears the face of a friend I met at the World Christian Gathering in
Australia, just a few months before, Wow God.
As we stayed with the Pastor & his family how exciting it was to sit
with Anna-Christina our interpeter & visit with a couple of the elders. We heard
the stories of the reindeer herders as they chased the wolves away from their
herd on skies and the time they & their reindeer ran to the coast in order
to escape the invading army. The hospitality of the people— their open hearts
and open houses just so blessed us and the songs of grace before meals just
seem to keep playing in my head.
I thank
God for the prayer walk in Oslo and proclamations of Psalm 24 at all of power
points. Glory to God for the walk up the high tower to pray for the good news
to go out to all the land as God’s heartbeat seemed to be throbbing through all
the communications cables as the stairs wrapped around & around them.
We are
so grateful for all the places of prayer around the world and let us continue
to pray for salvation to visit the hearts of the nations. I leave on April 28th
for three assignments on the east coast, at the Korean discipleship school,
then on to give a workshop at the Many-Nations celebration and finishing with
the 11 day Cherokee Prayer journey in eastern Tennessee. I will return home on
May 21st.

*SOUTH
AFRICA: “GIDEONS” FOR THE WILLOWVALE
>From: Kentashi@aol.com
>From: IMPACTJD@aol.com
Delinda
Higgins, a Missions Team Specialist who serves in Willowvale, South Africa,
sends the following article:
“Why,” I
asked the aging Xhosa pastor, “do you think the spiritual struggles here are so
intense?” --- Divisions amongst missionaries who had once worked well together
... Rebellious, discontented attitudes in Bible school students ... Young
school children responding in anger and rebellion ... The work was difficult
and tiresome ... Continued poverty ... Drunkenness
and hopelessness ... Men fear taking any sort of leadership role in the church
... Rampant jealousy, anger, violence, and the need for revenge ... Some of these
chains have been binding so long that they begin to seem normal and “just the
way the culture is.”
I had
served in some very overtly spiritually oppressed places where false gods
proliferated, but I had never labored under such heaviness as was here. Could
these long-standing chains be broken? Can this cloud of heaviness be lifted?
“What
must be done?” I asked Pastor Mancingwane.
“The
believers must come together and pray,” was his firm reply. I wondered within myself if that could
happen. The division and distrust are strong and generational. I believe these
strongholds of ancestor worship and witchcraft must be broken down by the Xhosa
people themselves. It was Gideon himself who was called upon to tear down the altar
his father had built to false gods (Judges 6:25-32). Until that altar came
down, stone by stone, the army of God couldn’t advance. What is the role of
those of us who are foreigners in this land? What is the role of praying
friends worldwide? Our role is to strengthen and encourage the Xhosa Gideons!
I
believe the students in our little school, the students in our Bible Training
Institute, believers in all the little rural mission churches are the Gideons.
But they have lived all their lives under this oppression and often don’t
believe they are strong enough to do anything. Like Gideon, they think that “I
am the least in my family” (Judges 6:15). Please join us in prayer. Pray for
the strength of the Holy Spirit in the believers. Pray for freedom from fear,
repression, and unbelief. This generation of Xhosa people is living in the
shadow of the altar of false worship that their forefathers have built. Pray
that Gideons will arise with the wisdom and courage to tear down those altars,
allowing the light of the Lord to shine and defeat the darkness that has ruled
for far too long.
- - - -
- - -
Friends,
far too long our own country is full of the same consequences of sin. We may be
educated and sophisticated, yet, sin still is sin. Let us pray that the Lord
Jesus Christ would have mercy on us all.

*AFGHANISTAN
- SIERRA LEONE
>From: “John
Robb” <"john_robb"@wvi.org>
Just
received a thrilling report from Afghanistan that since the prayer initiative
in October and our team’s prayer for God’s forgiveness of bloodguilt in the
stadium where every week executions and amputations were carried out, there
have been no more killings or severing of limbs! As Moses sang to the Lord, “Who
is like you - majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?” Praise
God for his wonders!
We need
to see His wonders once again for another situation. Tomorrow I journey to the
world’s poorest country of Sierra Leone for a special national prayer initiative.
Approximately 1000 church leaders from throughout the nation as well as major
political leaders like the president, vice-president and a converted rebel
chieftain are expected to take part. It will be called “ A Prayer Summit for
the Reconciliation of a Nation.” This is an appropriate theme for a nation which
has suffered the ravages of civil war over the last nine years. During that war
between rebel groups and the government an estimated 100,000 were killed, half
of the population of 4.5 million displaced within and outside of the nation.
Rebel groups targeted civilians and children with the most heinous kinds of
atrocities: rapes, brutal killings, and amputation of limbs of even small
children and babies. Some continue to commit such crimes even though a peace
agreement was signed last year.
May I
again ask you to join us in intercession to the Lord for some key issues which
need His wonder-working power:
1. Travel mercies, protection and proper
accommodations for the hundreds of pastors traveling from and back to other
parts of the nation, some still potentially dangerous areas, to its capital of
Freetown. Good, on time travel connections, favor with authorities and physical
protection during our stay for our team of nine coming from several countries
to facilitate the event.
2. Strong anointing of the Holy Spirit upon the
initiative and all who take part May 1-4, bringing unity and discernment as to
what issues need to be covered in united prayer. Clarity, wisdom and God’s
power for all of us who speak and that participants will be moved to respond
with conviction and action.
3. That the political leaders who should be
there will come and be especially blessed and challenged by the Lord.
4. National reconciliation, restoration of peace
and security and the rapid disarmament of all combatants, especially the rebel
forces of the RUF. Repentance or
justice for those who have and continue to commit war crimes, especially for
Foday Sankoh and his RUF rebels.
5. Binding and overthrow of occult spiritual
powers connected to Freemasonry and especially those tied to the pervasive

*ISAAN OF
THAILAND: PRAY FOR DOCTORS
>From: “Boyd/andrea
Herrington”
Our TEAM
is in need of doctors. We are working with the Isaan of Thailand. We need two
of them for a work in late October-early November.
Here are
the specifics. They would fill a gap for a missionary doctor so he
could
travel up country and work through this mobile medical clinic. Our
team has
previously worked in these and God has done some amazing things. We
would love
to have more than two. They would be working at the Baptist
Hospital
here in Thailand. Also, the possibility exists of doctors
traveling
up country with this missionary doctor. Our prayer is that God
will move
and many will come to know Jesus. Thanks, Boyd Herrington Isaan

LEONE: PRAYER SUMMIT FOR RECONCILIATION
>From: “John
Robb” <"john_robb"@wvi.org>
Dear
Friends, here is an update on what is happening here. Well more than a thousand
church leaders, pastors and prayer leaders from throughout the nation, spilling
over even into the outside halls as even more than expected arrived, have
gathered to pray for the healing of the nation. An estimated 80% of the Christian
leadership of the nation is assembled. What an opportunity for the Lord to
bring about a major transformation of the church and society!
The
first day was marked by deep repentance for personal and national sins such as
corruption, witchcraft, immorality, secret societies, murder, greed, theft, and
even human sacrifice. Much of the day was also spent sharing principles of
healing and reconciliation led by one of our Rwandan team members who shared
the trauma of his nation and how God is bringing healing as people are willing
to forgive and even bless their enemies, those who have killed family and
friends. The Lord is here and we feel is digging deeper and deeper into the
wounds of the past and as one pastor put it “uncovering the mask of the church.”
Please
join us in praying for:
1. A complete breakthrough through full
repentance and united prayer, that
God will
reveal secrets of hearts and bring His deliverance to those present and to the
nation as a whole.
2. That the hold of the secret societies and
Freemasonry will be broken through identificational repentance and renunciation
of covenants made with demonic spirits. Possibly 90% of the population and many
nominal Christians have been involved in syncretism (combining their Christian
or Muslim faith with spirit worship).
3. The display of God’s power so that the nation’s
church and people will trust and serve Him alone.
4. Miracles of healing and the comfort of the
Holy Spirit for so many who have been traumatized deeply through the
atrocities, losing arms and legs which were amputated by the rebels or having
members of their families and friends killed before their eyes.
5. Most importantly, pray for the raising up of
a united prayer movement with strong, ongoing leadership in all parts of the
country, that God will inspire those here to go back home with a clear strategy
for bringing the Body of Christ together.
There
is significant competion and denominationalism which has hindered this unity up
till now.
6. Finally, please pray for our team
that we may be sensitive as to how we should serve and minister most
effectively.
Thanks so much for standing with us. Warm greetings, John

*2001PRAY -
PRAY ‘ROUND AFRICA
>From:
Doug Lucas
Some
believers have felt led to organize a multi-denominational prayer commitment
called 2001 PRAY. It is the desire of those to whom God has given this vision
to sensitize the world to the great spiritual and physical needs on the
continent of Africa, enabling them to become effective intercessors. All
denominations and agencies are asked to seek God’s leadership in developing
their individual plans for involvement in the joy and privilege of praying for
Africa. Some suggestions which have been made are: One day of prayer for the
continent of Africa on the 3rd of August, 2001; an emphasis upon
prayerwalking in Africa, June - August of 2001 - a time when both young and old
may be able to participate. God will surely bless the prayers of His people as
they intercede on behalf of the unreached peoples of Africa. For more
information see the website: http://www.2001Pray.org

*PARAGUAY:
PRAY FOR ASUNCION
>From: ktaylor@nobts.edu
I want
to express my great thankfulness to God for your prayers during my trip to
Paraguay. The prayer cover God gave me through you was needed from the
beginning of the trip. When I arrived at the N.O. airport I was told my AirTran
flight was delayed by 2 hrs. This would have made catching my South American
flight almost impossible. God made a Delta flight possible at a minimum cost.
The week
spent visiting pastors and neighborhoods of the city were very profitable.
Pastors began to discuss their need to change the way they had been doing
things. I was surprised to discover how much the older churches were to most
churches in the United States. I would say the great majority of the older
works were plateaued or declining. The city of Asuncion has changed so
much-just like the cities of the United States. Another highlight of the week was a meeting with pastors and
leaders of the Paraguay Baptist Convention on Wednesday morning. I did some
evangelism training and showed the Transformations video produced by the
Sentinel Group. This video shows the power of prayer in efforts to see cities spiritually
transformed. The segment of the video we saw was on what happened within the
last few years in Cali, Colombia. Christian leaders were divided and at odds
with one another in Cali. God used the murder of a pastor to bring the pastors,
and the Christians of Cali, to a spiritual unity that God used to bring about
some major changes in the city. The Asuncion pastors and Baptist leaders were
in tears after the video, indicating how much there city was like Cali, and how
much disunity there was among Christians. The morning was closed with a prayer
for healing and reconciliation in the body of Christ.
Please
pray for the city of Asuncion and for the work going on there. Pray for a missionary force being rapidly
depleted by retirement and for leaders, lay and staff, of the churches there.
Some pastors are discouraged and frustrated by the lack of growth. Pray that
some will catch a vision for what God can do in the church in the city. There
are some churches on the fringes of Asuncion that are growing rapidly. One very
encouraging sign was the level of involvement of many young people in several
of the churches.
Thanks
again for praying! IT DID MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Christ, Ken Taylor, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary

*SEND
PRAYERS AND LETTERS TO PRISON
>From: “Finkler,
Karin”
Congressman
Joseph R. Pitts founded the Religious Prisoners Congressional Task Force to encourage
Senators and Representatives to advocate for international religious prisoners
suffering persecution by appealing directly to foreign government leaders to
secure the release of key religious prisoners and to help change hostile
policies. Private citizens also can play a vital role by adopting a religious
prisoner. By appealing directly to
foreign governments on behalf of those specific prisoners, your letters will
help raise awareness among other governments that the American people are deeply
concerned about protecting religious liberty as a fundamental human right for
all people, and will aid prisoners who may be suffering at the hands of a
hostile government. One of the most
effective advocacy measures is writing letters both to government officials and
specific prisoners. Amnesty International recorded the experience of one
prisoner of conscience from the Dominican Republic who stated, “When the first
two hundred letters came, the guards gave me back my clothes. Then the next two
hundred letters came, and the prison director came to see me. When the next
pile of letters arrived, the director got in touch with his superior. The
letters kept coming and coming: three thousand of them. The President was
informed. The letters still kept arriving, and the President called the prison
and told them to let me go.” Your prayers and your individual letters, can and
do make a difference.
As the
writer of Hebrews states, “Remember those in prison as if you
were their
fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you
yourselves
were suffering.” I encourage you to contact your Representative
and
Senators to request that they become Members of the Religious Prisoners
Congressional
Task Force. In addition, I urge you to share this information
with your
churches, synagogues, and other appropriate groups in your
community.
To request a Prisoner Packet or to inquire about further
information,
please contact Karin Finkler in my office at (202)225-2411 or

NEW GUINEA: CHIEF’S PRAYER ANSWERED
From: “Crosswalk.com”
...A
tribal chief’s prayers were answered in an unexpected way. The chief asked God
to send someone to his remote Papua New Guinea village to show his people who
God is, Nazarene Communications Network News said.
...The
answer came when a team of missionaries hiked for seven hours to Bundi in Simbu
Province, carrying a projector and the 16mm version of the Jesus film, a movie
about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Twenty-four people
professed faith in Christ after watching the film and a new church has been established
in the village, NCNN said.
...More
than 500 people in Simbu have become Christians through the work of 12 film
teams, and 203 have enrolled in discipleship classes, the church said.

*WILL YOU GO
TO BED 1 HOUR LATER?
>From: “Todd
‘Enrique’ Beel”
BARRIO
BULLETIN Friday, May 05, 2000
La Ciudad de
México, Distrito Federal, México
Pastor
Manuel Aguilar and his wife, Martha, have issued a challenge to many of us
working here in Mexico City to start new churches. At a recent planning
meeting, he curiously asked us all what time we went to bed. He then challenged
us to join him, staying up one hour later every night (or into the morning hours
for the late-nighters) for the purpose of praying for the lost and the church
starting efforts underway to reach them. Pray along with us that the hermanos
here will take this challenge seriously and that God will be pleased with their
sacrifice and expression of love for the people of this mammoth city.
A new
church has started in San Luis Tlaxialtemalco! It shows continued excitement to
reach the barrios surrounding them especially as they look forward to using the
evangelistic video, Destino Final (Final Destination). This video is made available via our
partnership with the Christian Broadcasting Network. Two weeks ago, pastor
Sergio called on his membership to, one-by-one and week-by-week, climb each of
7 mountains of Ixtapalapa. Atop these
mountains, with 8,500 foot peaks, the church’s fittest will gather for 7
all-night prayer and fasting meetings. They will intercede on behalf of the
millions of lost people within Ixtapalapa. Pray for their safety and thank God
for their commitment to reach the lost!
Thank you for your continued prayer!
