UGANDA: PRAYER CLOSES DOWN FORTUNE TELLERS
>From:
<fridayfax@dawneurope.net>
“An
Anglican Bishop had decided to hold an evangelistic week, together with other
churches and movements - unusual for the traditional denominational thinking
in Uganda,” says Mulinde. “They chose a large square for the events, also
the address of one of the most influential fortune tellers? centers in Uganda,
to which people from all over the nation traveled. The evangelistic events
lasted a week, with Christians praying with outstretched arms against the
center. There were also prophecies, spoken into the microphone and heard in
the center, that the center would no longer exist at the end of the year. The
fortune tellers and shamans were extremely angry, and started to call on their
demons with drums and ritual fires. Only a few months later, the government
ordered the center to be cleared, and bulldozers arrived to demolish it.”

HARVEST FIELD CRIES FOR GLOBAL PRAYER

Recently
my sister-in law- asked me if I had in any missionary statistics. I sent her
this & thought i would send it along here as well.
I used this in a sermon I preached on missions in my last pastorate.
Hope you all can get some use out of it.
83
people die per minute
There
an estimated 220,000 missionaries worldwide. 138,00 are Catholic & 82,000
are Protestant. 6,000 Catholics & 32,000 Protestants are from the USA.
At
the Erlangen university in Germany students were surveyed: Who is Christ?- 16%
knew. How does one become a Christian?- 92% were ignorant. In the land of
Martin Luther only 8% knew the way to become a Christian & 70% wanted to
know more about it, but Germany still remains largely unevangelized.
In
the USA there are 1,448 ministers per million people. That’s 1 minister per
691 people.
In
Africa there are 56 missionaries per million people. That’s 1 missionary per
17,857 people.
In
South America they have 30 missionaries per million people. That’s 1
missionary per 33,333 people.
In
Korea there are 20 missionaries per million people. That’s 1 missionary per
50,000 people.
In
India there are 15 missionaries per million people. That’s 1 missionary for
66,667 people.
In
Indonesia there are 3 missionaries per million people. That’s 1missionary
for 333,333 people.
In
China there is only one native pastor per 10,000 people.
I
think the field is white unto harvest, what about you? Let’s get busy!!

Praying
for World Leaders:
God
has no problem working through an ungodly leader. These are examples of God
working through an ungodly kind or worldly leader:
*Isa.45:1-7
Persian kings, Cyrus, Darius, Artaxerxes
*Ezra
6:14 In chapters 6,7 the Persian kings set the Jewish people free
from
Babylon and aided them in rebuilding the Jerusalem temple
*2Kings
25:27-30 The Babylonian king Evil-Merodach showed kindness to
Jehoiachim,
king of Judah, while in captivity in Babylon
*Dan.2:46-49;3:28-29,4:30-37
Nebuchadnezzar honored God and showed favor
to
Daniel and the three who survived the fiery furnace
The
problem is God’s own people who refuse to pray rightly for all men, and
especially for kings and leaders - refusing to life holy hands in prayer
without anger (unforgiveness, criticism, resentment) or unbelief (human
reasoning, looking at the outward situation, doubting God can do what He says)
and pray for salvation and knowledge of the truth as God directs.
(1Tim.2:1,2,4,8)
A
1 Timothy 2 prayer card “praying for those in authority” lists the current
American Presidential Cabinet for George W. Bush. It also lists the names of
our 9 Supreme Court Justices. The back side gives 12 scriptures suitable to
pray for both political and spiritual leadership. This card can be adapted to your country. You can view and
print out the card yourself from our web site:
http://www.lydiafellowship.org
under Free Prayer Resources and make the changes you need to list your
own country’s leadership. Hong

you do print out and use the card we only ask that you acknowledge Lydia
Fellowship International as the card is copyright.

J. Paul Landrey <PaulTOPIC@aol.com>
A
total of 1334 pastoral leaders gathered in Kathmandu, capital of the storied
Kingdom of Nepal for four days. This
was one of the most significant meetings in the history of Christianity in
Nepal, stated Pastor Phalgun Sunwar, a leader of the Nepal Fellowship of
Christian Churches.
The
mountainous highways made getting to the conference a major challenge for
many. One ... told of traveling a total of ten days, on foot and by bus.
Once in the city, delegates were housed in numerous hostels, as well as
in private homes.
The
excitement of being on the cutting edge of an emerging global strategy to
train leaders for Asia’s rapidly growing Christian church, more than made up
for any inconveniences. The opening keynote address called participants to
Faithfully Feed the Flock of God. It
was given by Dr. Ramesh Richard.
Four days later, the conference concluded with a reminder to know and
walk with God. Pastor Dennis
Kizziar delivered that closing address, entitled Fear flees at the sound of
the Heavenly Fathers voice.
“It
was at the very top of my ministry experience,” said Pastor Elmer Murdoch,
who taught a workshop each afternoon on Step Up to Life. This is an evangelistic tool he developed while pastoring
Trinity Church in Omaha, Nebraska for over 25 years.
“Just seeing Nepali Christian leaders eagerly learning and sharing,
was fantastic, Murdoch stated. It was a historic day.” The booklet was introduced and launched in Nepali, during the
opening session.
The
Himalayan Pastoral Leaders Conference 2001 was held Feb. 19 to 22.
45 percent of the 1343 participants were pastors or emerging pastors.
40 percent were congregational leaders (lay elders and/or deacons).
Another 15 percent were trainers of pastors.
This latter group included cross-cultural missionaries (Koreans serving
in Nepal, Nepalis serving in Bhutan and etc.)
About 30 percent of all participants were women.
A
workshop on how to equip and empower pastoral leaders was led by Rev. J.
Paul
Landrey, the international director of TOPIC, which stands for:
Trainers
of Pastors International Coalition - a global coalition of pastoral training
agencies. TOPIC grew out of a December 1997 meeting in Wheaton, IL, of 99
Western-based Christian organizations involved in training local church
leaders. This event was
hosted by the Billy Graham Center for Evangelism and sponsored by RREACH Intl.
Because
of the growth of Christianity in the Majority World, Landrey said, the
agencies concluded that an organized, cooperative effort would be more
effective than each group going it alone.
Even with cooperation, the task is daunting.
Four
thousand new Christian churches are born somewhere in the world each week,
Landrey said. Those numbers could triple within three years.
In addition, he said, 2 million present pastoral leaders lack in some
aspect of essential pastoral training.
The
typical Nepali pastor, for example, became a believer in Christ within the
past 18 to 24 months, states Rev. Devendra Rai (a missionary with ACTION Intl,
based in Dimapur, Nagaland, India and international coordinator of HPLC2001).
Only one in 25 has Bible institute or seminary training.
“The Nepali church is one of the truly indigenous Christian churches
in the world,” Landrey said. “It has sprung from the hearts of people who
have come to know Jesus and are on fire to share him with others. The great
challenge is to equip Nepali leaders in basic biblical understanding and
ministry skills.”
Equipping
won’t be easy. Traditional
seminary or Bible school training, while desirable, is too expensive and time
consuming for the average Third World church leader, Landrey said. More accessible, affordable and mobile training methods must
be developed, and they should be designed by local leaders to fit local needs,
stated Dr. Mangel Man Maharajan (Pastor of Koinonia Bible Fellowship in
Kathmandu and an advisor to the conference).
“The Western church has the privilege of coming alongside the Nepali
Christian leaders and sharing resources without regard to who gets the credit,”
Landrey said. “God gets great joy out of that.”
The
Nepali conference is a good example of this local leadership at work.
It was organized by two national Nepali pastoral networks, which
represent about 90 percent of Christian denominations and associations in
Nepal. They sent out 4,000
applications and accepted 1,200. Participants
came from all over - some journeying up to 10 days by bus or seven days on
foot.
Half
of the participants at HPLC2001 were from Nepal. The others came from northern
India, Sikkim, Bhutan and Myanmar (Burma).
When 134 walk-ins showed up, they were welcomed in spite of the strain
they put on the budget. “How could you turn away people who have walked four
days to get there?” Devendra Rai said.
Nepal
is about the size and shape of Tennessee, in the USA. Perched on the southern slopes of the Himalayan Mountains, it
is home to eight of the world’s 10 highest mountain peaks, including the
29,028-foot-high Mount Everest. Religion
is very important in Nepal. It is
not only the only Hindu kingdom in the world; it is also the birthplace of
Buddha. The Kathmandu Valley alone has more than 2,700 religious shrines.
While Nepal is a constitutional monarchy that espouses religious
freedom, proclaiming the Christian message in a country that is 90 percent
Hindu carries some risk, Paul Landrey said.
“The Nepali people are lovely, tender, teachable and hungry for the
word of God, I would go back tomorrow,” Mrs. Carol Landrey said.
Christians
in this country of 23.7 million people are still a tiny minority. But their
numbers have increased from fewer than 100 in 1950 to an estimated 350,000
today. Landrey said numbers could top 400,000 by the end of the year.
The Himalayan Pastoral Leaders Conference 2001 - the first large-scale
international conference for Christian pastoral leaders held in Nepal - was a
significant step for the Nepalese Christian community.
Organizers got government permission to use Kathmandu’s gigantic
SAARC Convention Hall, which perhaps covers 10 city blocks.
Paul Landrey said TOPIC would be working with local coordinators an
effort to launch five to 10 pastoral training centers in Nepal in the next
year. These centers will provide
evening and weekend training, using non-formal methodology, since about 95
percent of Nepali pastoral leaders work day jobs.
“The program is mobile and flexible, training them right where they
are,” he said. “This is going to the people, giving them the basic
biblical training and ministry skills they need, but in a manner that is
within their reach.”

LOUISVILLE,
Ky. (BP)--How could a call for prayer ever be the wrong thing to do? After
all, most Christians readily agree that prayer should be a first step rather
than a last resort in responding to pressing needs.
One
drawback occurs, however, when a specific prayer request is inaccurate,
outdated or misleading. Such is the case with an e-mail prayer request making
the rounds these days.
The
e-mail message urges recipients to pray for Ezekiel David Allen. He is
described as a young Southern Baptist missionary to Thailand who “is
critically ill with an unknown parasite and apparently WILL DIE WITHIN TWO
MONTHS unless there is an intervention by the Lord.” The prayer request asks
individuals to “help create a global blanket of prayer” for Allen and his
family.
Now
for the facts: Yes, there is an international missionary named David Allen;
yes, he serves in Thailand; and yes, he has faced serious illness due to an
unidentified parasite. However, Allen is not a Southern Baptist missionary;
the outdated e-mail alert has been circulating for more than two years; and
the initial round of prayers reportedly already have worked.
According
to Mark Kelly, a spokesman for the Southern Baptist International Mission
Board, “The e-mail was true more than two years ago. Allen was desperately
ill. People all over the world prayed and God answered those prayers.” He
said Allen has since returned to Thailand where he serves with another
evangelical mission organization.
Kelly
said part of the confusion about Allen’s IMB ties apparently occurred when
an IMB worker in Africa forwarded one of the early e-mail prayer requests,
including the worker’s IMB address. Much like the childhood game where a row
of youngsters takes turns whispering their version of a story to the person
next to them, the original prayer request evolved into a version that linked
Allen to Southern Baptist mission work.
No
one would ever want to discourage prayer about a legitimate prayer concern,
yet there are far too many current needs to spend time mobilizing friends and
family members to pray for an outdated request. “I wouldn’t say that
prayer is ever wasted,” Kelly pointed out, “but this certainly is
misdirected.”
On
the positive side, Kelly said such incidents “can help educate people about
the need to verify e-mail requests.” Noting that “good-hearted believers
are likely to pass it on” when they receive an appeal for urgent prayer, he
encouraged people to learn to confirm the original source of e-mail bulletins
they receive.
In
a somewhat related development, false rumors continue to circulate about
Madalyn Murray O’Hair seeking to ban religious programming on radio and TV.
The latest version of the story claims she has petitioned the Federal
Communications Commission to ban the TV show “Touched by an Angel.”
Once
again, a review of the facts: Petition 2493 was rejected by the FCC in 1975 --
more than 25 years ago. O’Hair was never a participant in the original
petition filed by two California men. FBI
agents recently identified the remains of O’Hair, who has been missing since
1995. She apparently was murdered by a business associate and two accomplices.
Whether
it’s an “urgent” prayer bulletin or a questionable rumor, concerned
Christians should take time to verify the accuracy of information before
passing it along to others. That way, when legitimate needs do arise, the
Christian community won’t be found falsely crying “wolf” one more time.

The
Lord abundantly answered your prayers for Kenya and our time with the church
leaders and intercessors there. I can say that every point given you to pray
about was answered or is being answered! It was one of the most powerful
initiatives we have been part of. Each day was better than the day before as
we let the Spirit of God lead us through His program for the event. Our team
was deeply impressed by the caliber of the local leaders who rose to the
occasion in a rapid, strong manner. Praise God for everything He did through
His people there and through you who supported us in intercession.
Julia
Ombasyi who coordinates prayer mobilization for World Vision in Africa has
written the attached report which gives her perspective as a witness of what
happened.
Please
continue to pray for the healing of the nation politically, economically,
ecclesiastically and for the Lord’s redemptive purpose for Kenya as a model
for other nations in Africa to be fulfilled. Pray for the regional networks
that were formed, that they will be effective in bringing reconciliation to
tribes in conflict and uniting God’s people for ongoing intercession for
social transformation and healing in various parts of the country.
We
deeply appreciate your prayer support which made all of this possible.
Warmest
regards in Christ, John Robb
Kenya
Prayer Initiative, March 20-24, 2001
Introduction:
About
250-300 church leaders and intercessors gathered together at the Nairobi
Pentecostal Church on Valley Road, for these meetings.
John
Robb traveled with a team of 5 ladies and four gentlemen.
DAY
ONE AND TWO (20 AND 21 MARCH 2001)
Fasting:
These
first two days were days of prayer and fasting. We thank God for the strength that He gave to all who
participated.
DAY
THREE (22 MARCH 2001)
On
the third day (22 March, 2001) there were prayers at various sites.
DAY
FOUR (23 MARCH 2001):
On
the fourth day we shared in the breaking of bread.
After this good moment of sharing the bread, there was an anointing
service which was a time of commissioning
the intercessors, not only by the visiting team but the Kenyan church leaders
as well. There was such a
great move of the Holy Spirit at this juncture that it was evident that so
many felt the great touch of God.
This was also evident on the other days as well. On this
same day
was also
the prayer networking for
the entire team. People
were divided in 10 different groups taking into consideration their
geographical locations
within and outside the city of Nairobi.
The group elected group
leaders and will continue to meet and pray together.
The first meeting will be a brain storming meeting.
DAY
FIVE (24 MARCH 2001):
This
was mostly a day of celebration. We
had a good time of praise and
worship after which we were led into a time of thanksgiving,
self searching, prayers and looking back at what God had done within
the week.
During
this time, we also received some words of encouragement from several members
of the visiting team.
WAY
FORWARD:
Forming
of Prayer Network groups (by region). These
will continue to meet in their regions to pray. A
small team made of World Vision staff and other intercessors has been
formed to pray for 40 days from 28/3/01 as per prophecy given.
This team is made up of 8 people.
Each person has been given 5 days to pray and fast for what as begun in
Kenya as well as covering all the participants from danger.
A
follow up meeting for the organizing committee has been scheduled for 5 April,
2001at the World Vision Kenya offices.
CONCLUSION:
This
initiative was awesome. We truly
felt the leading of God. We are
grateful especially to the visiting team who very flexibly fitted into our
program without any complains. This
initiative has not left Kenya the same. We
have already started seeing the results.
regards,
Julia

Please add the petition that this is will become part of a future Global
Network of National prayer Networks...

Authorities
in Wenzhou, China, closed or destroyed at least 450 churches, temples and
shrines in a campaign in Zhejiang province.
The area, which is home to about 7 million people, has seen a massive
religious revival, particularly among Buddhists and Christians. After the
crackdown, a Foreign Ministry spokesman astonished observers by declaring: “It
is clear that China has been carrying out a policy of protecting religious
freedom.” Cry out to God on behalf of persecuted believers in Wenzhou. Pray
that the revival in Wenzhou would continue to burn on.

On
Sunday, 25 February 2001, some 10,000 Christians - including at least 400
pastors - met in one of Jakarta’s sports stadiums for a special event: after
21 years of successful church growth and at the height of his career as a
church leader, 39-year-old Samiton Pangellah stepped down, to make room for
the next generation of leaders.
The
Abbalove movement has grown significantly in the past two years, and now
numbers some 9,000 members. Its influence goes far beyond its own churches.
Samiton believes that God will speak to pastors and other Christian leaders
increasingly to serve their town, region or nation, not just their own church.
“God is changing our paradigm of church, so that we see the Body of Christ
as he does - as an organic unit, not split into denominational fragments,”
he says.
Called
an apostolic figure by many Indonesian movements, Samiton sees his next task
to develop ways of reaching Indonesia’s business community, media and
entertainment industry with the gospel, and at the same time to be a spiritual
father for the next generation of leaders.

Greetings
and blessings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus!
He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow which gives great
expectations for the future, as we reflect herein with great thanksgiving on
His blessings onto the AD2000 & Beyond Movement over these past 12 years.
Praises be to God!
In
keeping with our 1989 By-laws and clear commitment, the AD2000 International
Office in Colorado Springs will close on 31 March 2001.
Thus, the AD2000 & Beyond Movement will formally close on that day
although we pray the vision of a church for every people and the gospel for
every person will love on in the hearts, minds and spirits of countless
churches, ministries and God’s people around the world even growing until He
comes! (Matt. 24:14)
Our
individual reflections on these past years are as follows:
Rev.
Dr. Thomas Wang: Chairman, AD2000 International Board
God
has put you and I into this crucial hour before the return of His Son Jesus
Christ with a definite purpose the fulfillment of His Great Commission.
Under
God’s loving mercy the AD2000 Movement was conceived and born during the
preparation of the second Lausanne Congress in 1989. In a short span of one single decade the Movement has
received acceptance and cooperation from Christ’s global body and has been
operating in over 100 countries of the world.
Through its initiation, names like 10/40 Window, Joshua Project,
Gateway Cities have become household terms among churches and mission agencies
today. The AD2000 Movement has
been ministering as a bugle-call to today’s churches to take the Great
Commission seriously and to fulfill the long-delayed task.
God
in history has raised up various movements as His instrument for various
purposes. When the purpose is
fulfilled the instrument must have the wisdom and the courage to die.
And so is the AD2000 Movement. During
its very first International Board meeting, decision was made that the
Movement as an organization will be dissolved at the end of the year 2000. But
the spirit, vision and commitment of the Movement will hopefully continue to
live, grow and be accomplished through churches and mission agencies
worldwide.
With
the consent of both the International and US Boards, it was decided that a
simple ceremony will be held on April 20, 2001 in Los Angeles (where the first
formative meeting of the Movement was held back in 1989) to mark the formal
closure of the organization of the AD2000 Movement. May God continue to bless
the final round on world evangelization through His own way and in His own
time.
Unless
a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains
only
a single seed. But if it dies, it
produces many seeds. John
12:24
Rev.
Dr. Luis Bush: International Director, AD2000 & Beyond
Movement
I
rejoice with my two dear brothers to be part of this final and farewell
message of the AD2000 & Beyond Movement.
Much has been said and reported upon over the brief tenure of this
Movement, with great praises and thanks to God for His manifold blessings both
seen and unseen! Seeking to be
brief, my praises and thanks are three-fold:
·
For the early
acceptance and rapidly growing fellowship of leaders towards a church for
every people and the gospel for every person vision to the year 2000, both for
geographic and functional purposes. This
matrix was well blessed in many places around the world.
·
For each of the
Praying Through the Window initiatives I IV, with prayer participation moving

faithful prayer!

For the catalytic

fires still burning and advancing the flame edge among the unreached day by

Praises

even increase, as God so leads and provides!
Rev.
Dr. John Kyle: Chairman, AD2000 US Support Committee & Board
Although
the AD2000 & Beyond Movement has been brought to closure officially, the
spirit of the Movement will live on as people across the globe continue to
cooperate and work toward mutual goals. We
have learned over these past years that we can accomplish a great deal more by
working together rather than independently.
The Movement has effectively handed-off the concept of partnerships
around strategic tasks by way of the Networks and Task Force concepts.
I
have noted, for instance, that this HiServices has proceeded from the Joshua
Project 2000 to the Joshua Project II that will include even more unreached
people groups than ever before. This
is moving strategically according to the Movement’s credo, A Church for
Every People and The Gospel for Every Person .
Also,
our former sister organizations continue to expand their global vision as the
Lausanne Movement and World Evangelical Fellowship forge ahead in seeking to
provide ways to reach our world for Christ.
It is heartening that the Great Commission Roundtable is also standing
by to assist evangelicals in the task of world evangelization.
I
am personally pleased that the leadership of the AD2000 & Beyond Movement
has been true to its original by-laws that stressed closure of the
organization at the close of over a decade of intense ministry. Extremely
significant gains were made in reaching the lost for Christ around the world
during the last decade of the Twentieth Century.
I believe that Christian history will verify that the AD2000 &
Beyond Movement was guided by the Holy Spirit in seeking to carry out Christ’s
Great Commission worldwide to the Glory of God.
May God bless each of you who participated in the Movement.
It has been an immense privilege to labor alongside of you these past
years.
May
the good Lord bless and keep you, individually and together, as the days
proceed into the 21st Century / 3rd Millennium!
Please know of our deepest thanks and appreciation for the many
prayers, gifts and support given to the AD2000 Movement throughout its brief,
yet blessed years. Thank you!
That
ALL may come to hear soon!

Wang, Chairman, AD2000 International Board

200
mission leaders from every continent and region of the world gather in
Malaysia for the Great Commission Roundtable, April 28-May 1. This will be the first global meeting of mission network
leaders under the auspices of GCR and, therefore, it will be an utterly
crucial gathering. We want it to
be an Acts experience in which we hear from the Lord and one another, coming
into agreement through prayer and deliberation on what He would have us to do
together in world evangelization. The building of close relationships will be
pivotal to the process, and we deeply value your support through prayer.
May
I ask that you join us in interceding for the following matters?
1.
Favor for all participants in getting their visas and timeliness in
receiving travel subsidies and airline bookings quickly and without hindrance.
Protection over all our families and ministries and
removal of distractions and resolution of problems that could knock
participants out of coming.
2.
For safe travel to Malaysia and smooth passage through immigration,
customs and via ground transportation to the consultation site.
3.
Wisdom in behavior and speech for us all and protection from prying
eyes and ears in this majority Muslim country.
4.
Grace, peace and God’s help for all the administrators both in my
office and in Malaysia who are working hard on so many details over the next
few weeks and during the event.
5.
His anointing and clear leading for all who are preparing parts of the
program: worship leader and musicians, presenters, chairs and facilitators of
discussion, intercessors and our GCR leaders.
6.
For a wonderful sense of unity, brotherhood in Christ, deep fellowship
and prayer together that will meet the spiritual and practical needs of all
who come.
7.
That the Lord will be strongly present guiding and empowering everyone
and everything that takes place so that GCR is launched as an effective “network
of networks” for world evangelization. May it be the best consultation any
of us has ever experienced!
Thanks
so much for your strong and faith-filled prayers that the Lord will
use
to change our world. I will update you on the progress made and how He
answers.
With warmest greetings, John Robb

Years
ago we connected with Ross and Dawn Piazza in Italy and could in
a
small way help network them with key leaders. Please keep them in prayer
as
they are now a vital part of the 40/70 window initiative in Europe
leading
Target Italy. For information contact them at

This
Easter 1000’s of people are praying 24-7 in over 20 Prayer Rooms in 10
nations, crying out day and night to see the tide turn in our generation.
And the power of Easter - the risen Lord Jesus - is really kicking in.
Here’s
a few quotes straight from the Prayer Room in Horsham, UK.
“It’s
just so easy to pray - God’s everywhere” V
“It’s
like a whole different planet, world, reality. It’s God’s place.
When
you get in the prayer room everything comes into perspective. It’s
you
and God, all your hopes and dreams become possible. WOW.” Fiona
“The
presence of God is automatically there. It is though He never leaves
the
room. There is such power in prayer.” Rob
“God
is so amazing! I’m so aware of my weakness, yet he still wants to use
me!
That is mind blowing. During my prayer times God has just showed me
his
love and mercy. There is people to save and God wants us to live
solely
for him and be Jesus to them.” Jo
“24-7
is such a great time to get closer to God. Every time I’m in the
room
the presence of God is awesome, I fall in love with Him again. I’ve
found
my relationship with Him is stronger and through these times He has
enabled
me to intercede like I never have before.” Nat
“I’ve
met with God like never before. The prayer room is a perfect setting because
His presence is so strong which makes it easy to get into prayer.
He
has taught me to pray in different ways for my generation and I now
want to have this time with him everyday.” Diego
