*PPG DIRECTORY UPDATE

As of July 15, we have 240 different registrations representing about 245-250 groups.  We have had 50 new registrations since the beginning of June!

The primary purpose of the NPPN is to identify PPGs across the globe, so that, together we can nurture and network them towards fulfilling their purpose in their respective communities and cities.

May I ask you to pray just one PPG onto our web site directory?

*RESPONSE TO “*CARE: WHY WE NEED THE POOR” (000714)

>From: <TLa5978918@aol.com>

In response to the article on the “poor”, in James we are told that “the

poor are rich in faith”.  What a blessing our churches receive when we

extend our arms to the poor.  Not financial blessing no, but a richness in

faith to bless our congregations.  Faith is what moves mountains!! Terri

*RESPONSE TO CHILDREN IN THE PRAYER MOVEMENT (Article #35)

>From: “Ben Jennings” <bjenning@ccci.org>

I commend you, Phil,

...For highlighting the prayer potential in children in the current nppn.  I, too, have had children laid on my heart in recent weeks, though it has been more in the nature of the vast need among children in the world.

One of the most striking vehicles of information for me has been the Viva Network in England and the World Wide Day of Prayer for Children at Risk (first Saturday in June every year).  We sought to push this strongly.  Perhaps you did, too.

In case it is of interest, here is information from Patrick McDonald, Viva’s Director:

Over 1 billion children are at risk in the world

10 million are child prostitutes.  1 million children become prostitutes each year.

100 million are street children.  (A missionary from South America recently told me that the estimated 8 million street children in Brazil are products of the annual Mardi Gras orgy).

200 million are working children.

40 million children are aborted every year.

35,000 die of malnutrition and preventable disease every day.

Shortly after the World Wide Day of Prayer for Children at Risk, I was encouraged to be reminded/informed that God is bestowing an amazing amount of grace on the world’s needy children.  World Christian Magazine (June, 2000) recounts it this way:

“Churches, mission agencies, parachurch organizations, and individual believers are teaching kids to read, giving them loving homes, rescuing them from the horrors of slavery, healing their wounds, and filling their bellies with nutritious food.  More importantly they are introducing them to a loving heavenly father who can give them a new future and eternal life.”

This is all comforting and thankworthy until the spectre of the total 1 billion looms in the background.  The prayer potential of the Children’s Global Prayer Network could be wonderfully enlisted to pray for children at risk.  Perhaps it is already being done.

Those who are able to give time to pray for ‘children at risk’ and people

who are working with them can contact

*ADVANCES IN THE ASIAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY

>From: Martin M Chow <metawake@juno.com>

Recently, from April 15 to June 17, we taught for nine weeks on “How to Prepare for Revival.”  Among other subjects, we taught (in Chinese) on “The Laws of Revival”, “The Great Awakening”, “The Influence of Women on Revival”, “Charles Finney (1792-1875)”, “John Sung (1901-1944)” and “The Shandong Revival (1927-1937).”  If you or a friend are able to understand spoken and written Chinese, copies of the messages on tapes and written outlines are available. We hope to eventually publish this series into a video/audio teaching module with a workbook for students and facilitators.  If you are interested to learn more of this, please give us a call at 626-820-1097.  We need professional advice and faithful financial support to make sure this project gets off the ground and is successfully completed.

The PrayUSA! 2000 movement expanded into PrayWorld! 2000 and was between March 8 and April 16.  The prayer movement is indeed going global! As a direct result of this massive call to fast and pray for revival and spiritual awakening, we are finding that Christians from various parts of the world - Africa, Europe and Asia - are eager to establish their own national prayer committees to facilitate the ongoing prayer and evangelism movements on their own soil.

Martin was privileged to oversee six Asian translations of the original English prayer calendar (Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog, Vietnamese).  Four of these language calendars (Chinese, Indonesian, Korean and Tagalog) in addition to the English and Spanish versions were posted onto a web site (http://www.prayworld.org).  If you haven’t done so already, please go online and download a calendar in your selected language and tell others about playing an active part in this ongoing prayer movement.

More and more, we are receiving encouraging news of Christians in the American Asian community coming together in corporate prayer, repenting for our lack of unity, welcoming revival in our midst and joining together in the exciting work of seeing formerly unreached people born again into the Kingdom of God.  In a recent report by George Barna, the percentage of Asians in America who have a personal faith in Jesus Christ has risen from 5% in 1991 to 27% in 2000.  These results were compiled after 1000 people were interviewed over the phone.  Clearly, God is on the move!  And we are seeing good fruit! Yet as we all know, there is much left to be done.

With our best wishes and love through Christ, Martin & Sharmaye Chow Metawake Revival & Evangelism, Inc.

*FUTURE OF THE U.S-? HENRY BLACKABY RESPONDS

--->NPPNote: Your reply will keep the “conversation” alive ...

Email a brief reply to: phil@nppn.org

>From: “Steve Loopstra” <mcop@XC.Org>

“Fresh Encounter” with Henry Blackaby is coming to the Twin Cities, October

13th. A part of the Bethel “Transformational Church Series”

As a “teaser” here is an article from Henry Blackaby you might be

interested in: Who holds the future? by Henry Blackaby

[A conference participant at the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove, North Carolina, last May asked Dr. Blackaby, “What do you see as the future for the United States?” The following is an abridged version of his response.]

“If you put the United States up against the Scriptures, we’re in trouble.

I think we’re very close to the judgment of God.

“The problem of America is not unbelievers; the problem of America is the people of God. There are just as many divorces and abortions in the churches as outside the churches. George Barna did a survey of 152 separate items comparing the lost world and the churches, and he said there’s virtually no difference between the two. Our gospel is canceled by the way we live.

“The only thing that’s kept America from going haywire worse than it has is the presence of Christian community. We’re still salt and light, but when the salt loses its saltiness, there’s nothing to restrain evil in America.  And right now the salt has lost its saltiness. It is not effecting the preserving of America.

“So I’ve always said if things get darker in America, the problem is not with the darkness—it’s just acting according to its nature. The problem is with the light. The light no longer dispels the darkness. All the way through the Bible, judgment came on the nation when God’s people would not return unto Him. Right now I believe God’s people don’t even think they’ve departed. In Jesus’ day they were practicing religion to the limit. God’s people were religious, but Jesus announced, ‘You’ve never even realized the time of God’s coming to you. So your destruction is certain.’ He wept over Jerusalem, saying, ‘If only you...had known...’ (Lk. 19:41).

“In the verses just before that verse, God’s people were praising. But Jesus was weeping. Could they have been around Him that much and not known Him? Is there a time when praising is out of order? When Jesus is weeping, we ought to weep with Him, but they were praising. Even though Jesus said the stones would cry out to praise Him, I have often said to myself, If Jesus is weeping over America, what ought the people of God to be doing?  Feeling good? We’re trying to get the people of God to feel good when they come to worship. We ought to get them to feel bad because America’s very close to the judgment of God.

“We don’t take the Scriptures seriously. I think this generation knows less about Scripture than any generation in my lifetime. We’re reading the books of men, but not the book of God. Therefore, when God moves in judgment, the average person will not even recognize that it’s God. It’s my own personal feeling that we may well be the generation that is alive when our Lord returns because we’re seeing the movement of God according to Scripture.  When Jesus first came, who missed Him most? God’s people. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. It was the religious leaders who missed Him most! Not only that, but the religious leaders missed Him so badly—even though they had the Scriptures to predict it—that they crucified the Son of God.

“Now what about all the Scriptures tell us about the return of our Lord? I mean the details of His return are clearly noted, but many of God’s people are not even thinking about it. Jesus said the last sign before His return would be the gospel being preached to every people group (Mt. 24:14). When David Barrett put out a list of every known unreached people group several years ago, there were some 2,300. I talked with the CEOs of a major mission sending agency, and the last word I had is that, as of this moment, every solitary unreached people group has some group that had made a commitment to take the gospel to them. That’s the first time in history. If you consider that and read Matthew 24, what would you conclude?

“How then should we live? The tragedy is that it’s the people of God and the leaders of God who are totally unaware of the ways of God.

“This is a long answer to a short question, but my answer is this: It depends on the people of God. Are we going to be a people like God has asked us to be? Will we stop fussing within our churches? Will we stop fussing between our churches? God’s people hold the destiny of America.  Don’t fuss at the world. It’s just acting according to its nature. We’ve got to be salt and light again. We’ve got to have an observable difference.  Is the darkness being dispelled where your church is? In the workplace where God has put you, and in the high school where God has put your kids?  It’s not building bigger and better buildings and having larger budgets or attendance. That’s not what God is looking for. He’s looking for salt and light that can radically change the places where God has put us.

“My heart is very, very, very heavy about the day in which we live, primarily because people do not even recognize that they have moved from what God wants them to be. The question for every Christian to ask is not, ‘Am I fulfilling my job description?’ but ‘Is my life making a difference?’ I don’t want to keep living and not making a difference! We need to examine our walk with God. We need to be able to say, ‘Father, I’ve sinned. I’ve lived without my life making any difference.’ Now can God rectify this?  He’s an expert at it! That’s why Jesus said in His prayer, ‘I don’t pray for the world; I pray for these because as go these, so goes the redemption of the rest of the world.’

“So God’s attention right now is on His own people, and if I gave one statement it would be, ‘The future of America rests in our hands.’”

Henry T. Blackaby is the director of the Office of Prayer and Spiritual Awakening at the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Coauthor of Experiencing God, Dr. Blackaby’s passion is to encourage spiritual revival.

having a Concert of Prayer on July 8th.  The Intercessors for Wastenaw

county are meeting on July 18th.  A Pastor’s Prayer Summit is set for

January 26-Feb.1, and a Pastor’s Prayer Walk for the County is coming up in

TYLER PASTORS MEET FOR PRAYER BREAKFAST

Pastors representing Methodist, Baptist, Non-denominational, Nazarene, Messianic Jewish, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, and Bible Church denominations met for prayer together in preparation for the Texas Transformation Tour coming to their city July 27-28.  Charles and Beverly Burchett from Kirbyville, John, and I were there to meet with pastors and encourage them in their vision to reach their city.  Pastors went around the room and shared their name, the name of their congregation, and their heart for their city.

A youth pastor from a Non-denominational congregation, thanked the

Presbyterian pastor for his excellent Vacation Bible School, where his

daughter attends each year, and made a friend last year resulting in an

entire family recommitting their lives to Christ.  Dan said, “I’ve never met

you, Pastor Brady, but I want to thank you for impacting my family and changing the lives of another one.”  What a blessing to see such grace and affirmation!

We were all moved as pastors and spouses tearily expressed their heart

for the city.  Then we prayed.  As we began to pray, Messianic Jewish Rabbi,

Mike Wallace, began to repent for his people who rejected the Lord and

refused to take the gospel that was given to them.  His weeping caused many

to get on their knees in Sweet Sue’s Restaurant and repent and cry out for

God to send revival.  We could have stayed all day.  The presence of God was

so powerful in that room!

Elwood Stetson, Chaplain of the Health Science Center, and organizer of

Pray Tyler, has been calling pastors together in Tyler for sometime.  He was

affirmed by the pastors present.  After the pastors’ meeting Elwood joined

intercessors for prayer at lunch time.  He reported that their time that day

was very significant.

If you haven’t registered for the Tyler Transformation Tour, please do so today.  God is doing something in that city!

PRAY AMARILLO

Pastor Joe Kirkwood announces the formation of Pray Amarillo.  Pastors

are beginning to come together for prayer and strategy.  All kinds of prayer

initiatives are going on right now.

In preparation for the Franklin Graham Crusade, on July 23 they will

“Surround the City in Prayer” as they drive around the loop and pray from

from 3 to 4 p.m.  They’ll gather on the parking lot of Trinity Fellowship on

the loop.  They will also have a plane flying over the city carrying intercessors who will call out the name of every pastor in Amarillo and ask the Lord to pour out His Spirit upon them.

Recently the Amarillo International House of Prayer was established with

the vision of 24-hour prayer seven days a week.  Pastor Gil Hilbrinner is heading that up.  It’s a citywide ministry connecting prayer warriors from various congregations to give themselves to worship and prayer for the city.

They all believe the Franklin Graham Crusade will be a catalyst for unity and vision, but they must have something in place to continue on.  Please pray for Joe Kirkwood, Gil Hilbrinner, Jeff Quinlen, and the intercessory group led by Karen Knepp and Marcie Rea as they seek God for their city.

Pray Texas is uniting hearts and hands with leaders to reach their communities for Christ.  We are a servant ministry encouraging, connecting, and equipping leaders to mobilize cooperative, strategic prayer initiatives to reach the state of Texas and beyond.

Yours for revival, breakthrough, and harvest in Texas and beyond,

*MADISON, WISCONSIN: PRAYER NETWORK LAUNCHED

>From: “djoppa” <djoppa@itis.com>

Prayer works! And the Jericho Project, Inc. invites you to join with other Christians from around the world in a network of prayer for the Greater Madison area. Youll learn how you and your church can subscribe to the Greater Madison Area Prayer Network at the end of this message.

Last summer the Jericho Project coordinated a 24-hour a day, 92-day prayer vigil for the Madison, Wisconsin area. Over 350 Christians from around the world committed to cover every one of the 2208 hours between midnight June 1 and midnight August 31, 1999. Good things have been happening as a result.

We were encouraged to do something again like last summer, but as we prayed about this and shared the idea with others, it became clear to us that ‘ongoing, strategic prayer’ was needed for the Madison area, not just another summer of prayer. We invited an interdenominational team of pastors and lay volunteers to work with us to create a way to mobilize strategic prayer. This project is the result of that effort.

We have been patiently working and joyfully looking forward to this day, and are eager to stand with you in faithfully praying for this community.

For those who don’t know who we are, the Jericho Project is a local Christian non-profit organization in Madison, serving the Church as an agent of unity and reconciliation, and believing that God has shown us that prayer unites Christians like no other medium.

The network connects Christians who have a heart or burden to pray for the Greater Madison area, and is a place to share Gods heart so that others will be mobilized to pray more effectively and strategically.

We long to see hundreds, even thousands, of Christians knit together in united prayer for the Madison area. We believe God is moving in a powerful way to bring renewal and revival to this area and that we are called to help lay a foundation of prayer that will prepare the way for this.

To subscribe to this prayer network, simply send an email to GMAPN-subscribe@theJerichoProject.org <mailto:GMAPN-subscribe@theJerichoProject.org> . In the body of the message include the email address you wish to use, your full name, the name of your Church, the city or town where your church is located, and the state or country in which you live.     That’s all you have to do.

Once you’ve subscribed, you will be sent a Welcome message giving you more information about the GMAPN and how it works. Then you will be sent Prayer Updates on a regular basis to show how God is leading others to pray.

We are delighted to be able to serve the Church in this way. Please join us in asking Gods blessings on our area.

Warm regards, Dave Konkol , Executive Director

The Jericho Project, Inc.

P.S. Please feel free to circulate this message among members of your church and to your Christian friends.

*MISSION HOUSTON: CITY WIDE THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION

>From: “Jim Herrington” <jhmh@flash.net>

Mission Houston is joining a number of ministries from the city to host a city-wide service of praise and thanksgiving on November 17.  Rather than the event being sponsored by any one ministry, we are asking pastors and churches from across the city to host this event.  We would truly like to be able to say that the pastors of the city invite the church to gather to pray.  We are using every means possible to contact pastors and asking them to be a part of the host group.  To host means that (1) the Senior Pastor agrees to personally attend, (2) the Senior Pastor agrees to encourage key leaders in the congregation to participate, and (3) the congregation is listed as a host of the gathering.  Would you help us get this word out to pastors?  If you are a pastor, please forward this message to other pastors for whom you have an email address.  If you are not a pastor, please make sure your pastor knows about this opportunity.  Pray that God will draw a large diverse cross-section of his body together on November 17 to give thanks for his work in our city.  Nearly 60 churches have already agreed to be a part of this!

May the Lord bless you this summer.  He is unifying his Body in prayer

across the city. Blessings, JTH
