PHIL’S PRAYER LETTER
Recently
returned from the semi-annual meting of American’s National prayer Committee
... It will bless your heart to know that your national prayer committee spent
two days in a prayer retreat - and actually prayed for two days! A strategy day
followed. Then everyone scattered to various cities, including our nation’s
capitol, to participate in the National Day of Prayer.
The Lord
spoke clearly to the NPC in our November meeting through Dr. John Perkins that
we must do whatever it takes to look like the Body of Christ. Many NPC members invited guests to pray and
strategize with us;
African-American,
Hispanic, Asian. Reconciliation prayers focused on gender issues and toward
pastors.
What
does the NPC meeting mean to you? Your ministry? Your church? Hope. I came home
with a renewed awareness of how God is actively at work in and through the
prayer movement. And that is beginning to include youth and children! The Holy
Spirit’s prayer movement is diversifying and deepening. That can only mean good things for you. Your
ministry. Your church. Keep praying ... in HOPE!
May I
share something personal with you? [My pride as a husband and father is oozing
out...] My wife Carol received this
email last year from our daughter jennie who was in the middle of a year of
missionary service in Zambian, Africa...

*ON YOUR
KNEES IN GETHSEMANE?
>From:
March for Jesus <MFJUSA@compuserve.com>
Jesus
struggle in Gethsemane became so intense that Luke 2 explains that an angel of
the Lord had to come to encourage Him.
All of Jesus’ prayer and what the angel said to encourage Him are not
recorded in Luke 2, but Isaiah 49 could give us some idea.
Looking
at Verse 4 we get an idea of what Jesus might have prayed at Gethsemane. “I have labored to no purpose; I have spent
my strength in vain and for nothing.”
Perhaps
the angel encouraged Jesus with Verse 6.
“It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes
of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring
my salvation to the ends of the earth.”
Could it
be that March for Jesus, which has been for the church (Israel) is “too small a
thing” for God, compared to His desire to make us a light to the Gentiles
(Jesus Day)?
Are you
in a Gethsemane experience right now?
Does it seem you have labored to no purpose and you have spent your
strength in vain?
Let the
angel of the Lord encourage you today from Isaiah 49. “In the time of my favor I will answer you and in the day of
salvation I will help you;
I will
keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people, to restore the land
and to reassign its desolate inheritances, to say to the captives, come out and
to those in darkness, be free!”

*PRAYING IN
THE CITY
>From: Ccdaexdir@aol.com
I have
an immediate prayer need. There are
hundreds of inner city pastors, lay leaders and churches who are starting to
take the message of Christ to the streets.
These people are confronting gang members and drug dealers in order to
spread the gospel.
Pray for
Johnson School in Chicago. Recently a
staff members was killed by needless violence and the children and staff are
having trouble coping with how and why this man died.
Pray for
J. Claude Allen CME Church in Dixmoor, IL who is now partnering
with
eight
schools in two school districts as a way to reach out to the community
and save
the children in the community. Their
evangelism team and volunteers have been confronted by gang bangers and
recently a local store called the police on them yet they continue. In fact over 100 people have given their lives
to the Lord since July of last year.
Men, women and children are involved in this effort.
Pray
that other churches will develop One Church One School programs that will help
them reach out to children and youth in their community.
And
finally, please pray that those who choose to fight the good fight in urban
communities will be surrounded by God’s protection and that they will stay
encouraged. Coming out of our comfort
zones (our churches) and going to the streets is not easy but necessary in our
fight to win souls.
Most of
the lost will not come into our churches unless they get a personal invitation. We’ve got to go to them!
Thank you
for your prayers.

May I add that we ask the Holy Spirit to invite these pastors and leaders into
the fellowship of prayer? The encouragement and direction they need for their
spiritual conflict will be greatly enhanced through participation in a PPG.

STUDIES POWER OF PRAYER
>From:
“Crosswalk.com” <editor@crosswalk.com>
Seminary
profs reflect on study on healthful benefits of prayer
KANSAS
CITY, Mo. (BP)--With a heart institute study showing that prayer helps patients
improve, two Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary professors warn against
depending upon scientific verification of a spiritual exercise.
The
study, led by MidAmerica Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City,
Mo., involved 990 randomly assigned heart patients in the coronary care unit.
Patients were prayed for daily for 28 days by groups of five people.
Heart
disease researcher William Harris noted in The Archives of Internal Medicine
last fall, “The patients who were prayed for just did better.” With assessment
based on 35 medical measurements, the 466 patients did 11 percent better than
the 524 in the control group, Harris reported.
“I don’t
think we should be surprised when living the way God intends—by much prayer—is
healthful for us,” commented Don Whitney, assistant professor of spiritual
formation at Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City. “On the other hand, we shouldn’t
lean too much on scientific verification of spiritual truths and realities.”
Paul
Carlisle, Midwestern’s professor of pastoral care, added, “Western culture is
addicted to empiricism—believing only what can be seen, touched, smelt, tasted
or heard. The kingdom of God is so much bigger than this. I am glad for the
research, but God works despite it.”
Whitney
warned against “a tendency to believe that something is not true until science
proves it true” or, equally disconcerting, “to believe something because
science has proven it true, rather than because God has revealed it in
Scripture.” He asked, “Would we stop praying if science ‘proved’ that prayer
did nothing for hospital patients?”
“The
Bible says that the effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much,”
Whitney said, quoting James 5:16. “If a scientific study documents that as
being true, we shouldn’t act as though we expected otherwise. On the other
hand, our faith should not be shaken if another study comes to the conclusion that
prayer makes no difference in the subjects of the study.”
Carlisle
acknowledged that the research on the topic is “amazing,” but was quick to add,
“As a believer, I have no doubt that prayer works because of the faithfulness
of God.”
Whitney
further noted that researchers in the study were only concerned with whether
the temporal health of the patients changed after people prayed. “God often
answers prayers for healing in a permanent way, that is, by taking a child of
God home to haven. Yet those trying to measure the effectiveness of prayer in a
coldly clinical way would declare the prayers for that person to have failed,”
he said.
Although
the study did not address the spiritual condition of the participants, Whitney
asked, “Who were the people who prayed?
Were they true believers? How and what did they pray?”
Believers
can use prayer as an outreach to others, Whitney said, by asking if prayer
could be offered on the person’s behalf. The phrase, “How can I pray for you?”
can convey a powerful message to unchurched people, he said. “I think it’s
entirely appropriate to pray for those unknown to us when we hear of tragedy or
great need.”
Carlisle
also suggested praying while traveling through different areas as another way
of remote intercessory prayer. He said he prays in that manner every day as he
drives past his children’s schools on his way to the seminary.

DELAWARE
PRISON OUTREACH ANOINTED AND VERY FRUITFUL - a special thank you to all who
offered prayer for this week-long team event and Easter Sunday OSL prison
outreach. The Sunday kickoff event saw a larger turnout of inmates than
initially expected. Maximum, moderate and minimum security residents were
released to attend. Hundreds of prisoners received Jesus Christ as Lord and
Savior in response to presentations by Chuck Colson and Franklin Graham.
Hundreds more - the “Church inside” - separated from their fellow prisoners to
openly show their faith and allegiance to Christ. They also pledged to
demonstrate the love of Jesus to their unsaved prison “neighbors” and to work
to win them to Christ. A “holy hush” and anointing fell over the entire
gathering as the believing prisoners knelt for blessing and “commissioning” by
those of us from OSL who were in the “yard” with them. The Presence of God was
profoundly evident.
Permission
had also been granted to OSL teams to evangelize the Delaware Juvenile
Correction facilities on Easter Monday, and OSL teams had been able to present
the Gospel in 13 Delaware facilities leading up to Easter Sunday.
Prayer
Focus:
1. Pray
that all OSL workers who were involved in the Delaware outreach be refreshed
and encouraged.
2. Pray
for Dave George, Israel Ortiz and all committee and team members already
planning and working on the next OSL campaign which will be in Michigan June

*THE CALL
(in) DC
>From:
Lou Engle <louengle@familyclick.com>
Dear
Prayer Network Leaders,
There
are moments in history when a door for massive change opens. Great revolutions for good or for evil occur
in the vacuum created by these openings.
It is in these times that men, women, and even entire generations risk
everything to become the hinge of history, the pivotal point that determines
which way that door will swing.
We feel
that America is in such a moment today.
As you may have heard, we are calling a massive gathering of two
generations: parents and their sons and daughters, to come to the Capitol Mall
in Washington, DC Sept. 2, 2000 to fast and pray. The gathering is named The Call DC. Taken from Joel 2:15, when all is blighted and there is no
remedy, in the midst of great moral decline, God’s answer to national crisis is
a call to massive united prayer and fasting.
Beyond
the Columbine massacre and the Wedgwood Baptist Church shootings, we are seeing
a whole generation under satanic attack. The Call DC is a response to the
groundswell of desperation in today’s youth.
Though our economy is booming, youth are in trouble and morality is
declining. Recent attacks on Christian
youth have resulted in a cry for the Jesus of the Bible. Youth are turning to Jesus - making a
radical commitment to confront the culture - and change their world. The Call
DC will bring this tremendous movement together. We believe that God has
initiated this national summons and it is imperative for us all to carry out
His command for the turning of America.
Recently,
a national prophetic leader, Jim Goll earnestly exhorted us, to mobilize
prayer. Although The Call DC is on God’s
heart, it will not be all that He intended it to be unless it is bathed in
prayer. Therefore, we are calling
nationwide networks to join with Intercessors For America to fast on the first
Friday of every month preceding The Call DC and in particular, to fast every
Friday during the month of May.
We are
also appealing that churches and networks everywhere would join in the Watch of
the Lord for late night prayer watches those same Friday nights. We are asking that the watch have a primary
prayer focus of the youth of this nation and The Call DC.
Please
also consider joining The Call DC Canopy of Prayer, a prayer group
for The
Call DC leadership, coordinators and participants. This national 50
day canopy
of prayer will cover this event and its’ participants 7 days a
week, 24
hours a day, for 50 days prior to the event!
Pastor Ron Pate is
the
facilitator. To participate in The Call
DC Canopy of Prayer, please
contact
Ron Pate at (530) 518-6586 or you may join the email group at the
website http://www.egroups.com/subscribe/TheCallDC_Canopy_of_Prayer
A
sentence of death hangs over this young generation, the same one as in the days
of Esther. When Mordecai fasted for his
teenage adopted daughter placed on the stage of history, sovereign reversals
took place and demonic decrees were overturned. It is time for the Mordecai
generation to pray for the Esther generation again!
Convenant
with us in praying for God’s visitation on The Call DC. We need fire from heaven. Pray for a trumpet sound, a mobilization
anointing to gather two generations from every state in the nation. Pray for a spirit of unity to prevail that
crosses ethnic and denominational lines. Pray finances are released. Pray for the greatest youth awakening in the
history of America.
Would
you correspond back to us regarding your intention to carry The Call DC in
prayer? Please let Lou Engle know
which churches and networks you will be linking with. His telephone number is (626) 794-1199 x231. Who knows if we have been brought into the
kingdom for such a time as this?
With deep gratefulness
and Consumed by The Call,

*CHICAGO,
IL: TEEN PRAYER RALLY IN GRANT PARK >From: twchurch@flash.net (The Woodfield Church)
On
Saturday, September 9, 2000, Metro Chicago Youth For Christ, along with 600
churches from all different denominations and locations across Chicagoland, are
preparing for a student prayer rally for high school and junior high students
within a 200-mile radius of Chicago.
Because
of the growing concern of parents and churches alike that our nation’s young
people are in grave danger of losing their lives after a widespread epidemic of
school shootings . . .
Recognizing
that today’s young people have no standard measuring stick by which to judge
their actions . . .
Having
lost their sense of moral absolutes to guide their conscience between right and
wrong . . .
Believing
that the prosperity and future blessing of this great country is a result of
our fundamental belief in God and His ability to answer our prayers . . .
Metro
Chicago Youth For Christ is sponsoring a day of prayer for young people from
across the Chicagoland area to join hands together and pray for their schools,
their teachers, and their peers that they might attend their public school
without fear.
This
rally is intended also to promote “See You at the Pole,” a nationwide effort to
get young people around their school’s flagpole to pray for their teachers and
peers on the third Wednesday in September.
The
program will include music and time for prayer. Currently, MCYFC is recruiting
students from hundreds of schools across the Chicago area to form a 1,000 voice
teen choir. Although adults will be “behind-the-scenes” guiding the direction
of this event and supporting the teens on the day of the event, students will
be the ones leading the prayer for their peers, teachers, and schools. The
event is non-political in nature and open to all young people of any faith.
Because of the generous contributions of individuals and churches, this event
is being offered free of charge.
As
adults, we are no longer willing to sit idly by while our young people lose the
battle for their “lives”. Never attempted before, this historic event has the
potential of setting a strong precedent for other cities across the nation and
a rippling effect across the world.

COUNTY, IL: SUMMER OF HOPE
>From: Bryan552@aol.com
--->NPPNote:
Churches in Lake County, Illinois (north of Chicago, up to
the
Wisconsin state line) are collaborating in several evangelistic
initiatives.
Contact Bob Ryan if you are interested in more information for
prayer or
for your church to participate
Pray
that insurance brokers will see our camp as an extension of the church. Today, they view us as a summer sport
program and the coverage is very high.
Pray
for the children who will get registration flyers
Pray
for volunteer youth groups and individuals (adult, collegiate) to
be leaders
and clinicians. We expected around 100
volunteers for this week.
Today, we
have fewer than 20.
Pray for
local pastors and leaders over-extending themselves for the Lord in this
project. This has indeed been a valiant
picture of Christian service but fatigue can become a fatal factor.
Pray for
the thousands who will receive invitations to this event. We are asking God for 1000 persons (out of
the unchurched pool of population) to attend each night.
Pray
for 100 decision counselors necessary each evening.
Pray
for the follow-up efforts that begin the same week with those who
make
decisions.
Pray for
the Power Team members that they might come with a very real sense of God’s
presence and power in what they say and do.
Pray
for the churches who will sponsor the evangelistic circuses in
Island
Lake, Crossroads Community and Lighthouse Church Antioch
Pray for
as many as 2000 children and family members who will hear the Gospel after
seeing circus acts.
Pray
that the community will see the investment of these churches in
their
lives and livelihoods
Pray for
the 475 applicants who are being prepared and trained to come to Waukegan this
summer.
Pray for
the City Council and School Board of Waukegan who are so supportive of this
effort. Some of them are seeking God,
too.
Pray for
the presence of God to sweep over the communities these kids will invade with
hammers and nails and sweat and prayer - this can become a revival.
Pray for
the Disaster Relief Training event that will provide lunches for the kids as a
ministry and training event. They will
have exposure to community and the lost as well. No better way to prepare for disasters than with the Gospel.
Pray for
three Hispanic Congregations, FSBC and Hillcrest Baptist who will impact the
lives of kids with Sports training events.
Pray for
the inner city communities that will be invited to attend these events.
Pray for
the thousands of lost children, youth and adults that will be exposed to the
Gospel through these sporting events.
Pray for
the pastors and leaders that will rise to the occasion so that people will hear
the Gospel.
Pray
for volunteers to join us in the event (we need 70)
Pray
that God will send His army of believers to help us be in the home of every
decision and attendee to these events by summer-end.
Pray
that FAITH EVANGELISM trained individuals will be moved upon by God that this
will be a week of their vacation joining Lake County Baptist Association
churches visiting in homes where decisions have and will be made -- it is a gold-mine
evangelism opportunity!
Thank
you for your prayer support, Boy Ryan
