PASTOR PHIL'S PRAYER LETTER

The Christmas season is a powerful reminder of God's love for the world. His promise of peace, both internal and relational, now and eternal, are unparalleled.  I think what amazes me most is not that God knew we needed a Savior and even not that He sent us a Savior ... But that He chose to become our Savior! What a risk! The Creator and Sovereign ruler of the universe wearing diapers and held in a teenagers arms. All so He could save me from myself.

May we be reminded once again of the reason we pray and mobilize others to do the same. Jesus. Our Lord and our Savior. Hallelujah!

Pastor Phil

P. S.  Carol and I trust your Christmas will be joyous. The prayers and financial support of our family and friends has been humbling and a great blessing!

CHRISTMAS BLESSINGS!
>From: "Crosswalk" <Religion_Today_Summaries@lists.crosswalk.com>
>Reply-To: "Religion Today Summaries" <Religion_Today_Summaries@lists.crosswalk.com>

Churches across the United States are taking part in the world's largest international Christmas project. Millions of shoe boxes filled with gift items will be collected this month at drop-off locations across the nation as part of "Operation Christmas Child." The gift-filled shoe boxes collected in the Operation Christmas Child project are distributed to needy children worldwide. Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan's Purse -- the ministry that oversees this annual holiday outreach -- is making a specific request of the families who participate in the project this year. "Pray for the child that's going to get this box.  I want each of these children to come to know that there's a God in heaven who loves them, cares for them, and who's provided a way for them to be with Him one day," Graham says. The Samaritan's Purse spokesman points out that each shoe box, although small, can make a big difference in the life of a child. In addition to small gifts for children, each of the boxes will also carry a small tract, describing God's plan of salvation. The Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes will be collected the week of November 15-22 at more than 1,800 drop-off sites in all 50 states. Samaritan's Purse projects that more than seven million shoe box gifts will be delivered this year.

PASTORS TOGETHER IN PRAYER
>From: PastorsInPrayer@aol.com

1994-July 3-JOURNAL ENTRY-Thousands made their way into the Coliseum as singing and praising God filled the arena!  What a sight, sound and sensation!  Seven pastors prayed together back stage, claiming the beginning of John 17 for Ft. Wayne.

Terry Dirks, who led us in the Pastors Prayer Summit last November, spoke to some  5,000 believers  assembled from various denominations from across the city.  He noted we are on the verge of revival in the land, as prayer  movements are breaking out all over.  His text was John 17,  Jesus prays for our unity, God's word commands it, God blesses it, the Holy Spirit empowers us to do it.  We are one.  We just need to recognize it!

What a joy to be with other congregations--an answer to prayer of many years.  PRAISE GOD!
~  ~  ~  ~  ~
2004-July 3-REFLECTION~Ten years following the first unity meeting in the coliseum, we continue to cry out for revival.  What comes to mind when we hear the term?  Dale Schlafer gives this definition in his recent book, "Revival 101."

"The word revival' refers to a sovereign work of God in the church among His people.  The word awakening' means a sovereign move of God among those both in and outside of the church who do not know Jesus Christ.  Today, a uniformity regarding the use of (the two words)  is occurring in the church. Others have defined it this way:

"The renewal of the first love of Christians resulting in the awakening and conversion of sinners   . . .  It reclaims the backslidden church and awakens all classes."  (Charles Finney)

"A work of God's Spirit among His own people. . . what we call revival is simply New Testament Christianity, the saints getting back to normal."  (Vance Havner)

Schlafer continues, "Suddenly, without warning God is present and people are brought face to face with God's holiness and their sin.  All true revival is about God bringing glory back to His Son by the power of the Holy Spirit through His church."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I'm praying not only for them but also for those who will believe in me because of their witness about me.  The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind with us.  Then the world might believe that you, in fact sent me."  (John 17:20-21. The Message)

PERSONAL PRAYER LETTER FROM NATIONAL PRAYER LEADER
>From: Robert Bakke <
rbakke@globaldayofprayer.com>

Dear Friends:

I thank many of you for praying for me this past week.  I met with the President and Vice President of World Vision USA and discussed what role they may play in the Global Day of Prayer phenomena.  The meetings were good and transparent, and we agreed to develop an ongoing discussion as to what this might mean for them.  Pray for World Vision.  Their work among the orphans and the poor is among the finest witnesses on earth.

Prayer for me next week as I travel to La Crosse, WI to meet with a group of pastors who are intent on mobilizing south west, Wisconsin.  Following this meeting, Ive been invited to St. Louis to meet with city and church leaders there and what might blossom among them.  Then I am on to Dallas, TX, to meet with twenty to thirty business and ministry gatekeepers across the Metroplex.  Some of those who will be in attendance are household names to some, both in business and ministry.  The proposal at that luncheon will be to make Dallas a model city and possibly establish a North American office there.  As I have shared with you before, my 2005 goal is to have 4-6 model cities of over I million in population in North America by May 15.  There will be dozens of smaller cities.  In January, I present to hundreds of pastors in Charlotte, NC.  There is great passion arising in Charlotte.

This past week we launched the development of a partnership with the National Network of Youth Ministries.  In 2004 their international division began a thing called The Whole Night for the Whole World (see www.wholenight.com) -- an all night prayer meeting for students on the Saturday night (14 May, 2005) before Pentecost (15 May 2005), that they might seek God for the great issues facing the youth of the earth.  Last Spring, all the continents participated.  The potential for this is vast and the fit is perfect for the Global Day of Prayer.  Pray for this alliance.  Prayer among students is amazing in certain parts of the world (see the two videos of youth prayer initiatives on our website (www.globaldayofprayer.com).  It has almost always been the precursor to revivals and spiritual awakenings.  Pray, too, for Jaeson Ma, a student generation leader from Los Angeles who has mobilized hundreds of thousands of students to pray in immense meetings.  Jaeson is partnering with us to mobilize students.  He is also at the heart of mobilizing Hong Kong (the two main stadiums in Hong Kong are rented for 15 May), and will be there for much of December.

This past week, I got a call from western Canada.  Christians in Calgary, Alberta, have rented the main arena downtown for the Global Day of Prayer, and the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada is using the 90 Days of Blessing as part of an evangelistic endeavor throughout the nation next summer.  Pray for Canada.  Calgary looks like it is one of the model cities to emerge.  In talking with a San Diego leader this week, we dreamed of having the stadium event on the beach, so that they could pray as the sun goes down signifying the end of the day which may begin among Christians in Fiji.  Reports coming out of Africa suggest that last Mays figures of 24 million could double in 2005.  Reports are coming out of Cambodia, Indonesia, India, New Zealand, two more arenas rented this week in England, Argentina, then domestically from Pennsylvania, Florida, California, Indiana (Indy could be another model city, and the mayor of Terre Haute has opened the doors to welcome Pentecost for his city the downtown arena has been secured), etc., etc.

There is more, but I hope this will keep you until next time.  Let me repeat myself.  What we are planning is impossible.  I feel totally unprepared and insignificant.  I cant do this thing and the others coming along side cant get it done either.  The main office is Pretoria, SA, is in a living room with two computers manned by one full-time person and one part-time, but the amount of ministry in the grass roots is breathtaking.  This is nothing less than a work of Heaven, and the answer to the prayers of many saints throughout the earth.  And when this thing reaches a critical mass over the next couple of years, the ministry and the mercy that will be unleashed across the earth could be unlike anything we have asked or imagined.

Keep praying for my discussions about the National Day of Prayer (May 5) which, among other things, would launch the ten days to Pentecost.

Please continue to pray for Sallys and my support, and the foundation and major ministry alliances that will be found.  We have never done anything like this before.  I tell people it is akin to leaping into a mosh pit (if you dont know what that means, ask your kids).  Because some of you have asked, contributions can be sent to The National Prayer Committee, Inc. / GDOP, 15121 Chicago Avenue, Burnsville, MN, 55306.  The address may change to Indiana in the first quarter of 05.  The NPC is a tax exempt, religious non-profit, organization.  I have very important meetings with significant organizations and potential partners in the near future.  And pray for the health of our family.  We struggle not against flesh and blood.  The Puritans use to say, When God begins to awaken His people, the first to be aroused is the Devil.  This is a dangerous world and we are often attacked at our most vulnerable point.

Grace to you all.  I depend on you, Bob

Parting Thoughts: A Christmas Promise
Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christs love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture.

Nothingnothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkableabsolutely nothing can get between us and Gods love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us (Romans 8:35-36, 38-39, The Message <http://www.navpress.com/Store/Product.asp?sku=1000000000> ).

May our hearts be full of thankfulness as we seek daily to worship and praise the name of Jesus.
Have a blessed Christmas!

PENTECOST PRAYER MEETINGS
>From: Cvk327@aol.com

Pentecost Prayer Meetings
by Claude V. King
The following testimony comes from the Forward to Andrew Murrays book The Prayer-Life (1913).
I wish to add one word more, in regard to the Pentecostal prayer-meetings held throughout our Church [Dutch Reform Church of South Africa]. These have had a very interesting and important place in our work. At the time of the great Revival in America and Ireland in 1858 and following years, some of our elder ministers issued a circular urging the Churches to pray that God might visit us too. In 1860 the revival broke out in various parishes. On April, 1861, there was very deep interest shown in the Paarl, in one of our oldest congregations. During the week preceding Whitsunday the minister, who ordinarily preached only once on a Sunday, announced that in the afternoon there would be a public prayer-meeting in the Church. The occasion was one of extraordinary interest, and many hearts were deeply touched. As one result the minister suggested that in future the ten days between Ascension and Whitsunday should be observed by daily prayer-meetings. This took place the following year. The blessing then received was such that all the neighbouring congregations took up the suggestion, and now for fifty years the ten days of prayer have been observed throughout the whole Church. Each year notes were issued as subjects of addresses and prayer, and the result has been that throughout our whole Church Christians have been educated in the knowledge of what Gods Word teaches regarding the Holy Spirit, and have been stirred to seek and to yield themselves to His blessed leading. These ten days have often proved the occasion for special effort with the unconverted, and of partial revival. And they have been the means of untold blessing in leading ministers and people to recognize the place that the Holy Spirit ought to have of the Godhead in the heart of the believer, in the dealing with souls, and in consecration to the service of the Kingdom.
There is still very much indeed lacking of the full knowledge and power of the Holy Spirit, but we feel that we cannot be sufficiently grateful to God for what He has done through His leading us to dedicate these days to special prayer for the movings of His Holy Spirit.
I have written this with the thought that there may be some who will be glad to know of it, and in their sphere to unite in the observance.

Pentecost Prayer MeetingsTen Days of Corporate Prayer
Consider planning ten days of corporate prayer beginning on the Day of Ascension and continuing to Pentecost Sunday (Whitsunday). Plan for a variety of prayer experiences. Provide specific suggestions for a variety of prayer emphases for each day. Where appropriate incorporate a message and music, only dont substitute them for an extended time for prayer each day. Prayer should dominate your time together each day. The following are some suggestions for your consideration.

Prayer Experience Options
Concert of PrayerMembers in small groups (of three or four persons) throughout the room are guided to pray about a variety of topics by the concert of prayer director. The director gives instructions and a topic for prayer. Following a season of prayer a new topic is presented for prayer.
Cottage Prayer MeetingsMembers gather in private homes or apartments and use conversational prayer to present their requests to the Lord and surround them with intercession.
Focused Prayer GroupsIdentify several topics for prayer and enlist a leader for each topic. Ask each leader to prepare a banner or sign to identify his or her topic. Invite members to move to the topic of choice and join others in praying for that topic. Members could stay focused on one topic for the evening or rotate to two or three during the evening.
Congregational PrayingMembers gather in one large group for prayer. One member at a time prays as the congregation listens and joins in agreement.
Small Group PrayingThe congregation is divided into small groups of six or eight persons. These use conversational prayer to focus on the prayer emphasis of the evening and/or on requests offered by those in the group.
How can we pray for you? PrayingIn small groups (four to eight people depending on the time available) ask one person at a time How can we pray for you? After hearing the request, let one or more people pray for that person. Then ask a second person for their prayer request and pray for him or her. Continue until each person has been prayed for by the group.
Topical Prepared PrayingIn advance develop a list of topics of concern and assign each topic to a different person who will then lead the group in a corporate prayer for that topic. These could include prayers of confession and repentance.
PrayerwalkingMembers in groups of two or three walk and pray on site with insight in their neighborhoods or areas of the community of special burden or interest (or Prayer Drivingsame focus in a car, van, or bus).
Prayer TripletsAsk members to group themselves into  triplets (groups of three). Lead members to identify people in their circles of influence who do not have a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Take turns identifying a person who needs Christ and then praying together for the persons salvation. These triplets may want to enter into a short- or long-term covenant to pray for these lost friends, coworkers, family members, and relatives. Triplets can gather periodically to pray or use a conference call weekly to pray together.
Lighthouse Movement PrayingFamilies meet in their respective homes to join in praying for their neighbors (five neighbors to the left, five to the right, and ten across the street). Launch Lighthouse praying and follow the pattern of pray, care, and share.
Prayer Vigil(or Watchnight) Gather a group to spend the night in prayer. Using other prayer ideas described here, schedule a variety of prayer emphases throughout the night.
Watchman PrayingEnlist members to agree to pray for one hour (probably at home) during the Watchman Prayer Emphasis. Depending on the size of your congregation decide to pray around the clock for one day (24 hours), a weekend (3@24 or 72), a week (7@24 or 168), or for all ten days (10@24 or 240). Watchmen may sign up for one hour or for the same hour of each day during the emphasis. Provide a prayer guide to help direct the hour of praying in conjunction with the Pentecost Prayer Meeting themes. Provide a printout of watchmen with a contact phone number for each. Ask each watchman to call the person on the list who has agreed to pray the next hour to make sure they are up and on the watch. An hour could be taken for prayer by an individual or by a couple, a family, a class, or a cell group who will agree to meet and pray at the designated time.
Invitational PrayerPersons come forward to request prayer for specific needs. The leader invites other members to circle around this person (couple or family) and join in intercessory prayers for the request.
Prayer Ministry LineIntercessors, ministers, and/or other church leaders stand in a line facing the congregation and make themselves available to pray with those who desire prayer. Individuals, couples, or families may approach a prayer minister at the front for prayer. This approach can be combined with the invitational prayer approach to give opportunity for either public or private requests for prayer to be made.

PRAYER GUIDE FOR TRANSFORMATION
>From: "" <PTM@prayertransformation.com>
>At: http://www.prayertransformation.com/

This year's prayer guide offers a unique path to revival and transformation. It is written to be either a stand-alone instrument of personal prayer, or to be used as a companion to the Quickening video (by the Sentinel Group) for corporate prayer. Included in this year's guide are stories of revival and transformation from around the world that will encourage you and your church to pray for God to "do it here." We have added extra pages of sample outlines for sermons and concerts of prayer.
Pastors, consider leading your church in praying about these biblical principles together: holiness, humility, obedience, biblical unity, and a hunger for God. As you allow God to knit your hearts together in prayer, imagine where your church could be a year from now!
The Twin Cities Prayer Guide is free, but we do appreciate donations to help with production and shipping costs. Order now and get enough to distribute to your church before the start of the new year. To order your copies of the Twin Cities Prayer Guide, contact us by phone at: 612-278-1717, or by email at: PTM@prayertransformation.com. If you can pick up your prayer guides at our downtown office, that would be a great help to our staff. If not, let us know about the best way to deliver them to you.

IS THE CUTTING EDGE THE CUTTING EDGE?

Secrets of the Most Holy Place    Volume two
Discovering the Wonders of the Christ Within
Author: Don Nori    c 2004
Destiny Image Publishers, Inc., Shippensburg, PA

A Serrated Edge  pp.126-127
If we were all willing to take a step back and look at the whole Body of Christ instead of only the part Gad has given to us (important as that might be), we would see that the so-called cutting edge of God's purposes is more like a serrated edge. God is doing many things today that are apparently unrelated and yet vitally interlocked in the heart of the Father. One cannot exist without the other, for in the economy of God our lives are interwoven in supernatural ways that we cannot even begin to perceive.

What part is more essential to our bodies? Let me put it another way. Which is the more "cutting edge" activity in the body? Are lungs more important than hearts? Are blood vessels more critical than the blood they carry? Do these parts argue over which is more important or necessary? Are they not all "cutting edge"? In light of the essential functions needed to keep the body alive and well, are they not all equally critical?

Of course, "cutting edge" sounds much more impressive. It makes me sound like I am ahead of the rest. When I am on the cutting edge everyone must follow me. Everyone looks to me. I am the authority. I am the one who has that special connection with God.

The "serrated edge" is boring. There, I am not the only expert anymore. I must share the platform. No one is looking at me in awe and wonder. On the serrated edge, many, many folks are hearing significant things from the Lord. I must be content as He raises up other faces in the Church He is building. The Church has many faces, all important and all lovely. They all have names. They all have a specific calling. He loves them individually and His plan for them is uniquely theirs.

But for the egomaniac in me, the cutting edge is definitely better than the serrated edge. A nameless, faceless Church is far more exciting - after all I have a name and everyone knows my face.
