* PASTOR PHIL'S PRAYER LETTER
Dear Phil,
Thank you for speaking at our prayer conference last week. We felt that the day
was a success and have heard nothing but positive comments from our pastors and
their church members. Thank you so much for being a part of that. In Christ...
I share this note, not to focus on myself, but to remind us of the power of
encouragement! Every Pastor's "success" is the result of God-given skills
teamed with God-prompted supplication! Please know how vital your prayers are;
they bless the Pastor who may then bless the congregation.
May we all look for the opportunity to encourage our Pastor during Clergy
Appreciation Month. Thank your Pastor with a card, a "take your spouse to
dinner" gift certificate, an act of service ("My we baby sit the kids?") or
offer the gift of time (volunteer two hours at the church office) ... You get
the idea!
Together, we are connecting people to God through corporate prayer,
Phil

>From: Pastor's Weekly Briefing <pwb@fotf.org>
Clergy Appreciation Month is fast approaching, and once
again we encourage you to honor your pastors and their families through creative
events and gift-giving. But there's something more that you can do this October
and throughout the entire year: Pray for your pastor.
In a rapidly changing culture, America's clergy often stand on the front
lines of spiritual battle for you and your families. Why not consider taking a
moment out of your busy day regularly to pray for their needs?
For further information and creative suggestions on celebration and prayer,
request the Clergy Appreciation Month Planning Guide through Focus on the Family
at 1-800-661-9800.
Commentary By H.B. London, Jr.
I read a disturbing letter this week from a pastor who indicated he was not
looking forward to Clergy Appreciation Month because he feared his church would
not properly acknowledge his contribution. His was not the only letter of that
type we received. Naturally, it breaks our heart to get notes like that because
we have prayed that Clergy Appreciation Month 2002 would be a positive event for
both the clergy and the laity they serve.
Our goal in the promotion of this observance is not simply to honor
individuals, but to recognize the call of God on the lives of men and women like
you. We have attempted to raise the awareness in the minds of those in North
America of your value and significance. It scares me to think what our world
would be like if you were not at your post. Our staff has worked tirelessly to
provide materials and instructions for the churches that choose to become
involved in this October emphasis.
Please be assured of our sincere prayers and support for your family. If you
need us, call on us. If you have a specific prayer request, use our Web site at
www.parsonage.org to alert us. You need never labor alone and unsupported. Our
ministry theme, "Every Moses Needs an Aaron," is more true today than ever
before. You really do matter to us!

leadership" (Heb. 13:17 -- The Message).

Thank you , thank you , thank youu ! I'm reading what you sent me, tips,
ideas, testimonies, scripture, praying for my pastor etc. I'm gleaning from
what you have sent and I'm blessed . Keep up this great work !
We have a woman's prayer group that has been lead by one woman faithfully for
eight years . Three years ago at our men's retreat we called on the men to
form prayer teams that would pray during the services every Sunday . We are
seeing the results of these efforts . Our pastor is so encouraged as we walk
into his office at 10:50 AM to pray for him before the 11am service . We
almost always have at least two men praying during every service .
The men who pray have bonded into a strong team of men who love and care for
each other and we are praying that God moves in the lives of all the men of
the church . We are planning a 911 prayer memorial at Burlington H.S. to
honor our heroes and all those involved . We have formed a great team to
organize our men's retreat in September . I can only say that we are looking
forward to this with great expectation . We have been praying that God
will move in the lives of all are men . Tonight we sent teams out into the
city on prayer walks . Two's and Threes we go a walking and praying for our
community . God is challengingg me and I'm filled with great expectation as
to what God will do through His Spirit for the cause of Jesus Christ .
God Bless You, Mark A. Mulvaney, Men's Prayer Coordinator

GOING BEYOND THE POLE
See You at the Poleª -- National Day of Student Prayer is
believed to be the largest youth prayer movement in history.
More than a single event before school on the third Wednesday
of September, SYATP encourages young people to listen to God
and ask, "What next?” There is evidence that they are
listening and obeying His voice. Many youth leaders are
encouraged by this trend, even more than by the numbers at
the Pole. For example:
Feeding Hungry Friends
Katie Brown was one of 140 students praying at Lake Brantley
High School in Altamonte, Florida. The time at the flagpole
was just the beginning of a really good day. She reported:
"In my Spanish class, people were asking me questions about
God, and I answered them all period. I had brought my Bible
with me so I was showing them Scripture, too. Some people
borrowed my Bible and read from it. One of my friends begged
to borrow my Bible, so I'm going to buy a Bible for her. We
want to start a club and pray at the flagpole every Wednesday
morning."
Saw You at the Pole
In many communities, youth and their pastors gathered the
night before or after See You at the Pole to worship, pray,
and challenge one another in their relationships with God. In
Maryville, TN, leader Scott Potter reported that five
students invited Christ into their hearts, including , two
guys who were contemplating suicide."
T.G.I.F.
At a middle school in San Diego, students meet before
classes for their monthly student-led club, "Thank God I'm
Forgiven." Some of their parents walk and pray outside while
their kids meet.
Still Praying . . .
Since the first year of SYATP, students in many areas have
felt compelled to continue their prayer meetings weekly (such
as every Wednesday morning) or even more often.
. . . Every Week
Teenagers and collegians in Grapevine, TX were challenged by
their pastor's sermon series that recounted the impact of
Christians in history who had been "true revolutionaries."
They decided to apply the message to SYATP, and the
revolution has been building since. "We decided that if we
were going to be real revolutionaries, then we needed to meet
(to pray) every week,” stated Jeff Byrne, who attends Carroll
High School in Southlake. Students at more than a dozen area
schools are praying every Wednesday morning. On some
campuses, students have set up lockers where other students
can submit prayer requests.
. . . Every Day
Justin Christiansen started praying two years ago, with his
brother and a friend. In fifth grade, "God told him that
(SYATP) was something he needed to do every day before
school." Now a seventh grader in Puyallup, WA, he leads 25
other junior and senior highers each morning. In Neosho, MO
students meet daily to pray in the high school auditorium,
and more than 50 student gather every morning at the middle
school. There were 326 at SYATP on 9/18, and another 250 who
prayed on 9/11!

"The strength of the campus club reflects the unity that God
has been building between the churches in our town."

Growing global movement is revolutionizing the way churches pray
What began just three years ago as a "stupid idea" has mushroomed into a
worldwide movement that is revolutionizing the way churches pray and changing
lives in local communities with the power of the gospel.
Congregations from Las Vegas to Delhi, India, have joined the 24-7 Prayer
initiative, in which they commit to round-the-clock prayer for anything from a
week to a month at a time, "Charisma" reports in the November issue out next
week.

September 29: Worldwide Day of Prayer for the Harvest
Mission Network News, a service of Cornerstone University of Grand Rapids,
Michigan, USA. http://www.MNNonline.org
http://www.gospelcom.net/mnn/media/group.php?agencyAb=EEI
The latest statistics on mission workers are somewhat sobering. The reports
point to a trend of retiring missionaries, with few ready to take their place in
the field. Over time, that could result in a severe shortage.
As a result, Evangelism Explosion[5] has declared September 29th a "Worldwide
Day of Prayer for the Harvest". E-E's John Sorensen. "We'd really love to see
September 29 be a day for the church to really pray that God would send forth
laborers into the Harvest field, and that a huge outpouring of prayer would
occur because of this orchestration of this day."
When asked what he hoped to see effected by the campaign, Sorensen said:
"Mainly, I just see that we need to be asking the Lord that He would provide us
with a whole onslaught of indigenous workers around the world that would be
willing to go and share the Gospel with the unreached people groups of the
world." E-E helps the body of Christ worldwide for friendship, evangelism,
discipleship and healthy growth.

>From: Bob Hill <bob.hill@moody.edu>
"Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they
may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two
or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst."
Matt. 18:19,20
In the verses preceding our Lord has been instructing about how to deal with a
sinning brother. He sums up that instruction with verses 19 & 20. Jesus is
initially dealing with a particular situation, a sinning brother, and applies
the principle of “united testimony has greater strength.” The sinning brother
is dealt with powerfully when the church agrees against him. Even to the point
of binding him out of their fellowship (which also has a similar effect
heavenward, i.e. bound out of fellowship with God).
Jesus broadens the application of the principle of "united testimony has
greater strength" when he says “if two of you agree on earth about anything
that they may ask.” Now He is talking about prayer in a general and
fundamental way. We have greater power with God when we unite and agree in our
praying.
We could not have a more powerful argument for corporate prayer than verse 19
"If two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be
done." If a mere man had said that, you would and should discount such a
preposterous statement. But when the Lord of Glory gives the conditions on
which His Father will do something, none should dare to question it. The fact
that we don't take this promise seriously and implement it is evidence that we
either: 1. Don't believe the principle or 2. Don't desire God's
blessing. Either attitude is wrong and we should repent with great haste. We
must strive not just for mental agreement but also heart agreement and life
commitment. Following are some way we can work for agreement.
1. Agree in the assessment of the need. This takes maturity and
discernment to know the difference between wants and needs. Those agreeing must
be sensitive to the timing of God and leadership of the Holy Spirit. We need to
develop the ability to see things as God sees them. "For as the heavens are
higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than
your thoughts." Isa 55:9
2. Agree in deep hunger for God's answer. We need to acknowledge to each
other what our hearts desires are and strengthen each other in those desires.
The fervor of our asking is in direct proportion to our desire for what we ask.
Our Lord prayed with great passion and emotion. "In the days of His flesh, He
offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One
able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety." Heb 5: 7
3. Agree in giving God full liberty to work. We need to make ourselves
willing instruments for God to use in accomplishing that which we pray for.
Rom 12:1 "Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present
your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your
spiritual service of worship." A sacrifice is one that is given over to
something as dying to everything else.
4. Agree in what is God's will in the matter. Here we need to apply
principles from the Word of God to discern just what His will is. Some things
are always God's will in His time, some things are never God's will any time but
the most difficult things to deal with are those things that could or could not
be His will. Ecc 3:11 "He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has
also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work
which God has done from the beginning even to the end." When God gives us
special assurance that something is His will, we are on good praying ground.
5. Agree in claiming an appropriate promise. We can remind and encourage
each other in the promises. We can together hold God's promises up to Him to
honor for His glory. The ultimate promise is "And we know that God causes all
things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called
according to His purpose." Rom 8:28
6. Agree in holy determination to see God's answer realized. Just how
much do you want the desired blessing? Remember when "Jacob was left alone, and
a man wrestled with him until daybreak. When he saw that he had not prevailed
against him, he touched the socket of his thigh; so the socket of Jacob's thigh
was dislocated while he wrestled with him. Then he said, "Let me go, for the
dawn is breaking." But he said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me."
Gen 32:24-26 Jacob so desired the blessing that he would not let the angel go
even though smitten in the thigh.
7. Agree in steps of obedience. As we continue in prayer to God for a
matter He may lead us to change the way we pray. It might include special
seasons of prayer or fasting. Specific acts of obedience may be required. God
many times works in us as He is working for us. "And do not be conformed to
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may
prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect."
Rom 12:2 Having someone agree with us is a way of submitting to one another
and verifying that our motives are pure.
8. Agree in giving God all the glory. If we are praying for God's glory
we have great reason to expect Him to answer. God has determined that all
things will ultimately glorify Him. "For from Him and through Him and to Him
are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen" Rom 11:36 We need to be
careful not to take God's glory to ourselves or our ministries or churches. "For
My own sake, for My own sake, I will act; For how can My name be profaned? And
My glory I will not give to another." Isa 48:11
Finally, Agree in willingness to accept God's will in the matter. The
underlining thing we must agree on is that we will accept God's will no matter
what. God could have prevented any need or problem from arising but in His
providence He brings things, good and bad, into our lives for our good and His
glory. Mat 6:10 "Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven."
The principle of "united testimony has greater strength" is seen in Scripture
many times.
Jos 23:10 "One of your men puts to flight a thousand, for the Lord your God is
He who fights for you, just as He promised you."
"If one Jacob can prevail over a wrestling angel, what can two do? What a
victory would come to two who joined in the same wrestling!…There is an
accumulated power in united supplication: two do not only double the force, but
multiply it tenfold." C.H. Spurgeon
Lev 26:7,8 "‘But you will chase your enemies and they will fall before you by
the sword; five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten
thousand, and your enemies will fall before you by the sword."
Some material from Mighty Prevailing Prayer, Wesley Duewel, p 140
God help us to unite and agree in prayer and move Heaven and earth for God's
glory.

We live in a very strategic time in the economy of the world and MUST know the
power of building ALL FINANCIAL SUCCESS ON INTIMACY WITH GOD AND A LIFE OF
PRAYER. Prayer is not an option or an addendum! It is a mandate! You can't
continue to leave home without it!
Ann Bandini has been elected as minister of God to teach the foundation and
infrastructure of Prayer based on the book she authored PRAYER STRATEGY: GOD'S
PROVOCATIVE PLAN FOR WEALTH.
God took her out of a owning a successful business, and lead her to two years of
Bible College. She then returned to work for two additional years until the
Lord told her to "step out"! Because she was unsure what that term meant, God
dried up her business, disconnected her business phone and sat Ann out for 3
years to pray, study and write this material.
This was an election for such a time as this. We have heard a lot of teaching on
finances, money, and wealth, but little has been taught on the protection and
covering of prayer, and hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit through intimate
communion with God for strategic information to carry finances and receive

Notes from Praying for Difficult People Seminar - Oct. 5, 2002
© G. Hartwell, October 2002, (416) 234-1850
http://www.HealMyLife.com
Preparation
Think about your life.
1. Is there someone you know and love who does not know or understand the
need to have Jesus as their Saviour and Lord?
2. Have you ever wanted to know how to pray for a teenager or young adult who
has run away from their family or is going wild?
3. Do you have someone who always expresses bitterness, or who always
complains, and nothing you say seems to help?
4. Have you encountered people who seemed quite resistant to godly counsel?
You felt that you had something to say but you knew that it was not getting
through.
Keep these names in your mind as you learn how to 'pray for difficult people.’
Guidelines
Remember these guidelines:
1. Listen to God. Before you speak listen. Attune yourself to God. Be open to
the inspiration of heaven as you speak or write your prayer.
2. Agreement. There is power in a spoken prayer in which two or more hear and
agree with the prayer.
3. Humility. You are not God. Focus on God's will and God's power. It helps
to step back and take hands off to signal that you can't handle this and to let
God take over.
4. Do not use prayer to control God. Do not whine at God. Do not plead. Do
not gang up on God – as in - get more people to pray then God will listen. When
you listen - guideline #1 - and pray in line with God’s will, you don’t use
prayer to convince God.
5. Do not use prayer to control people. Do not tell God how you want someone
made over. Also, do not pray for something to happen to someone as in: praying
that someone would have trials so that they will learn patience. Not!
6. If you are not sure what God's will is in a situation, don't pray
specifics. Pray more general. For example, I bless what God is doing in this
person's life.
7. Do not pray to Satan or command Satan (or principalities and powers.) Do
not bind Satan. Avoid naming or focusing prayers around Satan. Also do not
command angels because you are not the Lord of Hosts – God is. You can request –
God commands.
When you believe that it is necessary to deal with Satan's power in prayer, then
address God and his power and authority. For example, praise God for what He has
done. Second, request God deal with Satan or the powers of darkness. This way
you avoid addressing prayers to Satan or principalities or powers. As you keep
the naming Satan or evil powers to the absolute minimum you avoid inviting the
presence of evil. That is why you keep your focus on invoking God's presence.
Level the Playing Field
When praying for the lost or the prodigal, think of leveling the playing
field. You want the person to be able to make up his or her own mind. You are
not trying to manipulate their mind. However, neither do you want to allow
Satan, or powers of darkness to be allowed free access to seduce, beguile,
deceive or confuse the loved one that you are praying for. The blood of Jesus is
a powerful prayer of protection to use.
Scripture speaks of the enemy veiling the eyes of the unbeliever. You don't
want to allow that to happen, so you pray, in Jesus name, that God will protect
them so that their eyes can see clearly and their minds discern correctly.
The Bible speaks of us facing a choice between life and death, between
blessing and cursing. You want the person you are praying for to see clearly
that choice before them. If they are sinning you want them to see, understand,
feel and experience the consequences of that sin, of their choices. You want to
pray that they can see the paths before them: a path toward life abundant and a
path to death and misery.
You do not use your prayer to force them to choose a particular path.
Instead, you pray that they know what their choice is. You might put it like
this.
"Father, I pray that You protect (name) from any confusion, deception or
game playing by other people or the enemy.
I pray that their mind be open and that their spiritual eyes can see the
path before them: a path leading to death and destruction and a path to life and
life abundant. May they be free to make up their own mind, make their own
choices and face the consequences of those choices. Give them eyes to see the
consequences of their choices."
Put in a God Inclination
In Jesus name, I pray that Your Spirit would incline them to choose life, that
You would call them to yourself, may they know Your love. Send a messenger
(angel or human) who can share with them the gospel of Jesus in terms that they
would understand.
Total Release
"(Name) is Your child, Father. You gave (name) life. You have loved and
watched over (name) all their life. You sent your Son Jesus to give His life to
save (name.) So I commit (name) totally into Your care. He (or she) is in Your
hands. They are yours, Father.
I release them from my hold. I cut the apron strings. I let go. I step back.
I take my hands off. They are yours.
I give you permission to do whatever it takes to bring them to the point
where they discover Your purpose for their life. Whatever it takes for them to
come to their senses. Whatever it takes for them to discover the Joy of serving
You.
May Your will and Your purposes for them be done.
Not by my prayers but by Your Spirit, Lord. I commend them into Your hand.
The Chronic Complainer or Bitter Person - a Mediation Prayer
Are there times when people want you to listen but they are closed to your
counsel? They may not want you to pray for them. They just want to talk about
their problems. They need a listener and you are it.
Never underestimate God's ability to break through to the chronic
complainer. God can do it and you never know when it may happen.
Meantime what do you do with all the problems that are getting dumped on
you?
Be a Pipe to Heaven!
Be a pipe not a garbage can. Be a pipe to heaven!
In your heart have a little agreement with God that goes like this: "God I
can't stand hearing all these complaints especially since (name) won't listen to
me or let me pray with them. I feel so helpless. There is nothing I can do. I
can't reach them. So I am going to stop trying to reach them and put them in
Your hands.
When they talk, I am going to listen, but I am going to let You listen too!
In fact I am going to send everything that they say up to you. You can listen to
their bitterness, (or whatever.) You can deal with them. I give up. Mentally I
am sending them to You.
Maybe You can reach them. I can't.
Another Way for the Intercessor - Build a Praise Highway to Heaven.
Someone has shared their problem with you and you really hurt for them. You
are burdened with concern. You love them. You want to pray for them.
There is a way to have God touch them without pleading with God in prayer.
It is to praise and worship God. Sing praises. Speak praises. Focus on who God
is. Express your feelings for god to God. Lift your spirit to God.
A strange thing happens when you get totally focused on God and forget the
burden. Your burden and the person on your heart get lifted off you and up to
heaven. Without straining in prayer the person will be touched by God.
As your spirit lifted to God so did the burden – which was on your spirit as
well. So the burden got to heaven – by the highway of praise.
Send the Holy Spirit.
Remember that the Holy Spirit is the Counselor, the Comforter. When you
can't get through to someone, the Holy Spirit can. What you say to someone is
screened by their mind. The Holy Spirit has a distinct advantage; He reaches the
heart.
Do you give up? Then step back. Take hands off. Send the Holy Spirit!
For example you can pray like this:
“Father I can’t reach (name.) I am going to let you speak to them. Their mind is
closed to me; but you can reach their heart. Your Spirit leaps over mountains
and bounds over hills, The Song of Solomon 2:8. No barrier is too big for you.
So, please send Your Holy Spirit to (name) and you tell them what they need to
know. I am going to take my hands off. I am going to leave them in your hands. I
am not going to keep trying to get through to them until you show me that the
door is open.”
Request for Feedback
Whether you were at the seminar or not I would like feedback from you when
you use these prayer methods. Let me know if it works or if it does not. I will
try to answer questions and refine the teaching with your help. So thanks for
feedback.
Reminder: next Seminar on "Prayer in a Personal Crisis" is the first Saturday in
November, the 2nd, and the last one in this series is Saturday November 30 on
"Praying for Healing."
blessings from an open heaven, George <><

If you would like to be a part of what God is doing through
the National Solemn Assembly, take a look at the suggestions below.
You may be asking, "How can I be involved with the National
Solemn Assembly?" The most obvious answer is simply, "Be there." If at all
possible, especially if you live in the Washington D.C. metro area, we invite
you to come and actively participate in what God is doing.
The mandate of Joel 2:15 is to "Blow the trumpet in Zion,
consecrate a fast, call a solemn assembly; gather the people, sanctify the
congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children and the nursing babes…"
The Biblical model of solemn assembly involves the entire family. The National
Solemn Assembly is open to all members of your family, young and old, and we
encourage total family participation.
The Center for Spiritual Renewal, in an effort to cover the
National Solemn Assembly with the anointing of God, has launched an initiative
known as the Group of 120. Members of this group have committed themselves to
intercede everyday, and to fast as they feel led, for God to move mightily at
the NSA. If the Holy Spirit is directing you to join this group, please contact
us via e-mail (cfsr123@aol.com). You will receive periodic prayer directives
concerning the NSA.
If you are unable to join us in person in Washington D.C., you
can be a part of what God is doing by simultaneously holding a solemn assembly
for your local church or community. Write or e-mail us for information on how to
put together a local church or a citywide solemn assembly.
Plans are to show the National Solemn Assembly on the Internet
through video streaming. Continue to check back with us at this site for updates
on this exciting opportunity to be a part of the NSA.
The National Solemn Assembly is endorsed and supported by a broad coalition of
Christian leaders from the Washington, DC area and from across the United
States. It is held in cooperation with several national prayer and revival
movements. It supports and operates in the spirit of An Urgent Appeal, a
call for national revival. The meeting is being coordinated by the Center for
Spiritual Renewal.
