*REPORT ON PrayWORLD!2000: MOVING FORWARD

>From: “Ben Jennings” <bjenning@ccci.org> International Coordinator

PrayWORLD!2000 may prove to be the largest prayer mobilization in Christian history.   The event was a millennial tribute to Jesus Christ.  It was a world-wide 40-day observance of prayer and fasting for fulfillment of the Great Commission of Christ.  It was a globalization of Praying Through the Window, a movement of prayer for the 10-40 Window over the past seven years.

A 17-member Advisory Council encouraged participation among denominations, churches and prayer networks.  An executive team included Steve Hawthorne who arranged a 40-day Prayer Calendar, Eddie Smith who directed publicity and public relations, Anne Money who designed and posted a world-wide web site, and Martin Chow who coordinated a group of international translators.

The Season of Lent was chosen for the observance, as being a well-established period on the international Christian calendar.  55,000 copies of Steve Hawthorne’s expanded prayer guide, “Seek God for the City 20i00” were sold.

Major participating organizations included:

American Bible Society, Azusa Pacific University, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Campus Crusade for Christ, Christian Broadcasting Network, Christian Information Network, Evangelical Foreign Missions Association, Global Harvest, Great Commission Center, Herald of His Coming, Intercessors for America, the Lausanne Movement, Mainstream Ministries, Metawake Revival and Evangelism, Mission America, National Day of Prayer, National Prayer Committee (USA), National Pastors Prayer Network, Operation Mobilization, Pray Sacramento, Pray!USA, Praying Through the Window, Southern Baptist Convention, Viva Network, the World Evangelical Fellowship.

Known countries and peoples that were widely-reached with information were Australia, Chile, Gambia, Ghana, Great Britain, India, Liberia, Lithuania, Native American Indians, Nigeria, Philippines, Romania.

Language translations were provided in Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog.

The story goes beyond the 40 days of Lent.  Other known 40-day observances in Year 2000 include:

      Youth with a Mission, January 1-February 10

National Association of Evangelicals, September 22-October 31.  Continent of Africa, November 1-December 10 Evangelical Fellowship of Asia-entire Year 2000.

PrayWORLD!2000 has plans to continue and expand its work in coming years.  Members of the Advisory Committee are considering a goal of a National Prayer Committee in every country of the world.  Regional Prayer Committees are under consideration for some of the largest nations.

The stated purpose of PrayWORLD!2000 is to spread prayer over every Great Commission territory and ministry.  The ultimate objective, outlined in Revelation 5:8 and 9,  is completion of the Church internationally, to include people of every tribe, family, clan, and society.

*STRATEGIC PRAYER IN ACTION

>From: William Murchison <billmurchison@sprintmail.com>

I have been pastoring a church in Acworth, GA for the past 2 ½ years and also have been a chaplain at the Cobb County jail where we have really been seeing the Lord move powerfully. I am writing you for prayer for my daughter Kathleen and for our family.

On April 14, Kathleen was diagnosed with AML (leukemia). She has been undergoing chemo-therapy for it and is scheduled for a bone marrow transplant later this summer. As a result of all of this, I have resigned at the jail and also laid down the church that I was pastoring. I will be with my daughter in the hospital and in North Carolina for a couple of months for the transplant.

Kathleen’s leukemia is not going into remission. By this time, with two completed cycles of chemo, the leukemia is normally in remission. Please pray with us for her healing. We have seen God heal miraculously and instantly and we have also seen Him use physicians. We are not particularly because all healing comes from Him. Please join with us in our fight for our daughter.

The churches in Acworth and Kennesaw have really come together to help our family. Different churches are providing meals on different days. Several ladies are cleaning our house every week. We have a lady handling meal schedules, sending out e-mail updates, etc. The love that the body of Christ has shown us in incredible. There was a city wide prayer meeting for her last week with a number of churches present. God is using this for His good and His glory.

Thanks for praying with us while we go through this storm.

Bill Murchison

*TEST TIME?

>From: “david hitchcock” <lord89@hotmail.com>

“A good teacher only tests students on information that has already been taught. If you are going through a trail, God has already supplied you with the data necessary to pass the test. His desire is that you pass the test so you can graduate to the next level of maturity.”

*MAKE THEIR BIRTHDAY A PRAYDAY

>From: “Crosswalk.com” <editor@crosswalk.com>

>By Mark Kelly

BOUAKE, Cote d’Ivoire (BP)--A Southern Baptist missionary in Cote d’Ivoire was wounded May 8 when gunmen hijacked his car and drove away with the missionary’s son still in the vehicle.

The miraculous resolution of the incident illustrates the critical importance of prayer support for missionaries, noted Wanda Lee, leader of Woman’s Missionary Union, of God’s intervention in the incident.

Travis Forsythe was driving home to Dabakala, where he and his wife serve among the Djimini people group. His 2-year-old son, Nathanael, was with him.

When Forsythe stopped for food late in the day at the city of Bouake, two bandits took the car from him at gunpoint. Forsythe clung to the open door of the vehicle, trying to convince the gunmen to let him get Nathanael out. The driver shot and wounded Forsythe, who chased the car as it sped away with his son in the back seat.

Forsythe’s wife, Kim, and their 5-year-old daughter, Gloria, were not with him at the time. Kim Forsythe was observing her 30th birthday at home, ordered to bed by her doctor because of complications in her pregnancy.

That the carjacking occurred on her birthday may have been the saving grace for her husband and son.

Many Southern Baptist publications carry prayer calendars with the names of missionaries and their birth dates. Thousands of Southern Baptists were praying for Kim Forsythe as the gunmen were attacking her husband and kidnapping her son. The number of intercessors multiplied as word of the kidnapping almost immediately flashed through electronic prayer networks.

Forty-five minutes after the carjacking, the gunmen put Nathanael out of the vehicle and left him alone on a dark road in the village of Katiola.

Villagers put him in the care of a midwife, who fed and bathed the child and put him to bed while authorities located his parents.

Nathanael was back with his father by 1:30 a.m., just hours after his abduction. His father’s injury was superficial, with the bullet miraculously passing through his right side between the ribs without hitting any vital organs. His mother, however, was hospitalized because the shock of the carjacking and kidnapping exacerbated the complications of her pregnancy.

The incident highlights the importance of praying for missionaries and illustrates the power of those prayers, said Wanda Lee, the national executive director of Woman’s Missionary Union.

“We never completely know what we are praying for when we pray for missionaries on the prayer calendar,” Lee said. “It is humbling and exhilarating when we learn about experiences like the Forsythes’ and know, in faith, that our prayers played a role in resolving it.

Woman’s Missionary Union is known for its emphasis on prayer for missionaries, Lee noted.

“I’ve heard countless miraculous testimonies from missionaries about events that happened on their birthday,” she said. “I’ve also heard them say they put off important decisions until their birthday because they know WMU members are praying for them. One missionary told a group once that he would resign if WMU ever stopped praying.

“Praying for missionaries is the most important way to support them,” said Joanne Parker, editor of Missions Mosaic, WMU’s magazine for women.

“Missionaries are in a spiritual battle,” she emphasized. “They can have all the money and training in the world, but that is still not going to empower them to accomplish the spiritual work of winning people to Christ. Our prayers undergird them in their spiritual work.”

Teresa Dickens contributed to this article. Travis Forsythe is a native of Brownsville, Tenn., and is a graduate of Union University in Jackson, Tenn., and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Kim McKenzie Forsythe is from LaGrange, Ill., and also is a Union University graduate.  They were appointed by the Southern Baptist International Mission Board in March 1999.

*SEND YOUR PRAYERS AND LETTERS TO PRISON

>From: “Finkler, Karin”  <pitts.pa16@mail.house.gov>

Congressman Joseph R. Pitts founded the Religious Prisoners Congressional Task Force to encourage Senators and Representatives to advocate for international religious prisoners suffering persecution by appealing directly to foreign government leaders to secure the release of key religious prisoners and to help change hostile policies.  Private citizens also can play a vital role by adopting a religious prisoner.  By appealing directly to foreign governments on behalf of those specific prisoners, your letters will help raise awareness among other governments that the American people are deeply concerned about protecting religious liberty as a fundamental human right for all people, and will aid prisoners who may be suffering at the hands of a hostile government.   One of the most effective advocacy measures is writing letters both to government officials and specific prisoners.  Amnesty International recorded the experience of one prisoner of conscience from the Dominican Republic who stated, “When the first two hundred letters came, the guards gave me back my clothes.  Then the next two hundred letters came, and the prison director came to see me.  When the next pile of letters arrived, the director got in touch with his superior.  The letters kept coming and coming: three thousand of them.  The President was informed.  The letters still kept arriving, and the President called the prison and told them to let me go.”

Your prayers and your individual letters, can and do make a difference.  As the writer of Hebrews states, “Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”  Congressman Pitts encourages interested individuals to contact their  Representative and Senators to request that they become Members of the Religious Prisoners Congressional Task Force.  In addition, he urges interested individuals and church communities to share this information with your churches, synagogues, and other appropriate groups.

To request a Prisoner Packet or to inquire about further information, please

contact Karin Finkler at (202)225-2411 or e-mail Congressman Pitts’ office

at pitts.pa16@mail.house.gov

*THE REASON WE GO TO CONFERENCES!!

>From: stephenleewright@juno.com

Our church is having a prayer revival since the Great Commission Prayer Conference.  We had a concert of prayer the week after the conference with 65 people for 4 hours.  I took that success as a sign from God that He wants us to pray.  We have begun a full-fledged prayer ministry.  I have adapted the information from three books to make the ministry applicable and holistic to our situation.  The three books are, “Concerts of Prayer” by David Bryant, “Operation World”, and the “Lighthouses of Prayer” material.  I am presently keeping two prayer journals...one on private prayer, and another on our corporate prayer.

The prayer ministry schedule is as follows...

Sunday:  Two people pray 5 minutes before and after the services in the morning and the evening.  They pray for God’s blessing on the services.

Wednesday:  We changed our Wednesday night Bible study to “Night of Praise and Prayer.”  We sing praise and worship songs, with hymns for a half and hour.  Then we enter into prayer for 50 minutes.  15 minutes:  Praying the Bible...”Praying verses back to God.” (David Bryant concept)

10 minutes:  Public repentance...In concert (David Bryant) 10 minutes:  Teaching on the prayer needs of specific countries (Operation World)

10 minutes:  Prayer trios...Groups of three pray as follows...5 minutes prayer for a certain country(We are praying for all countries of Latin America now...”Operation World”...5 minutes prayer for 5 lost souls...”Lighthouses of Prayer” During the week, the prayer trio is actively praying 5 minutes per night.  One person prays for the country of the week.  The second person of the three prays for the 5 lost souls.  The third person prays for the other two, for blessing and protection.

5 minutes:  Thanksgiving prayer.

Friday:  Intercessory Prayer

2 hours, 2 people and the pastor(We have had an average of 7 people)

We begin with silent praise for 10 minutes.

We pray for six intercessory needs...church, pastor, leadership, families of the church, specific members of the church, the Body of Christ at Large.  Each need has three categories...(1) PROTECTION FROM THE ENEMY, (2) BLESSING, (3) TO KNOW AND FOLLOW GOD’S WILL.  I direct the prayer, and all pray in silence.  Each category lasts five minutes.  We end in public thanksgiving to God.

Saturday:  Prayer of Preparation

1 hour, 5 people and the pastor (in a room around a table)

We pray in silence, with the pastor directing, as follows...

1.  That God prepare the hearts of the lost for Sunday.

2.  That God prepare Sunday’s message.

3.  That God prepare the music

4.  That God prepare the offering

5.  That God prepare the Sunday School.

We begin and end with praise and Thanksgiving.

Phil, I wish to thank you and SFC for sponsoring the Great Commission Prayer Conference which helped to inspire and equip our church for this great movement of God.

In Christ’s love, Steve Wright

*PRAYER PARTNERSHIP: PASTORS & POLICE

----- Original Message -----

>From: Melissa Martin <Martin0698@freewwweb.com>

...A sheriff is asking churches for help. Michael Davidson of San Juan County, N.M., said in a letter to 90 churches that he is “concerned with the direction that our community and society, in general, is headed.” He cited problems such as pornography, drugs, and domestic violence. The county is in the Four Corners area of the state, near the junctions of Utah, Colorado, and Arizona.

...Davidson asked for churches to “enter into a partnership” with his office and to “unite across denominational lines to mobilize your membership and prayer groups” to help combat the problems. With each letter, Davidson included the video Transformations, which depicts dramatic changes that have occurred in four cities around the world because of prayer.  ...Churches rallied around Davidson when a local newspaper questioned the propriety of his actions, Assemblies of God News Service said. Twenty-five pastors held a news conference backing him.

...”We feel like all of this is working together in the timing of God to see a major [spiritual] breakthrough,” said Randy Johnson, pastor of Trinity Assembly of God in Farmington. Pastors are meeting twice monthly for prayer, and have been involved in evangelism, distribution of the Jesus video, and have fasted and prayed together, he said.

*COLLEGIANS PRAYING TOGETHER VIA SATELLITE

>From: Jeremy Story <campusrenewal@xc.org>

Praise God! We are now only need to raise about $15,000 more to cover all the expenses for the broadcast.  Please continue to pray with me for this; we need to raise the rest as soon as possible.  Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer.  Here are some of the quotes from students about the broadcast and the fruit of your prayers:

“It rocked - the prayer time was powerful.  It was what we needed.  It moved

many to get down on their knees before God face to the ground, I felt

convicted

and have felt the need to get right with God - living for Him first ever

since”

Andy Haan, Student at University of Iowa “Corporately it[the broadcast] challenged our students to reach out to the campus.  They realized their sin of silence and went out and brought approximately 300 in for our Wednesday night meeting (praise & worship, message, etc). Many were on their faces, tears streaming down their faces, crying out to God on behalf of our campus as well as others. It was one of the MOST SIGNIFICANT 2 hours of the whole year... and that is saying a lot (we have seen God do some awesome things at CSU this year).”

Lee Howell, Campus Minister at Charleston Southern University “What stood out most to me was the concept of thousands of students praying the same prayers.”

Jennifer Bergin, Student at The University of Wisconsin at Stephens Point “A spirit of conviction fell on the people at the broadcast. I cried and observed many people crying. I saw many people excited during the broadcast; they were fired up!”

Brent Kanyok, Campus Minister at Florida State University “Many students said God spoke to them about things in their lives.  Many were uplifted and challenged to take the gospel out to the lost.  At one point during the time some were prostrate on the floor, while most were bowed down low before the Lord.”

Craig Bryson, Student at Southwest Baptist University “I was amazed at how God was able to be glorified through the technology that we have access to today.  It was awesome to think that all over the nation there were people worshiping along with us; that we were in unity with one another!  It moved me to want to pray more.  I have seen fruit since prayers that night.  I have been able to share the gospel openly with one girl I have been praying for and also to pray with a couple more and minister the love of Christ to them; I have been able to present the gospel.I am becoming more bold in my workplace and on my campus.”

April Trusievitz, Student at St. John Fisher College “The Solemn Assembly was awesome!  I felt that it made a major impact on all that participated.  Let me share that I was very disappointed that we had only 21 present until I found out that the Assembly was accidentally shown on the campus wide TV station!  God is so powerful!”

Debbie McNeill, East Tennessee State University “It’s a great idea.  I hope that you do it again.”

Elizabeth Rupprecht, Student at Daley College “This broadcast was absolutely incredible. It allowed me to worship in my own dorm room with the intensity of being on a revival, yet it was just me and God.

I would love to see this more often.”

Ashley Creswell, Student at Carson-Newman College “It was so great that we took time for repentance. That is something that doesn’t happen too often in our world and God calls us to it.’

Student Indiana University of Pennsylvania “At first I was skeptical to see how a satellite would really put me in touch with God and to really worship Him.  I was in for a surprise!  God was with us that night no doubt. It was one of the best experiences of Rez Week for myself, to get on my knees before God, He brought me to tears and showed me how unworthy I am of His gift.  Everyone I talked to was moved, I enjoyed the worship prayer, everything about it, and even mended some relationships I had with the people I prayed with.”

Lori, Student at Arizona State University “I prayed about issues and for people that, had I not gone, I would not have.

I was blessed, but above that, we honored God as we came together to present ourselves before our Lord.  Campus Crusade for Christ and InterVarsity Christian Fellowship came together for this event.  It was a piece of God’s continuing work to unify His children on His campus.”

Ed Lipke, Student at Northern Michigan University “I was convicted about attempting to do God’s work through my flesh.  After the broadcast I felt that weight lifted, and I no longer felt the desire to do it in the flesh.  I enjoyed the worship time very much, but again, I was going through conviction so it was like a knife thrust seeing and hearing other Christians raise their hearts to Christ so openly.  It was humbling and gave me a renewed desire for unity and love in the body.  My small group was two of my best friends and when we prayed for the lost we prayed for their families and cried.”

Student at Arizona State University

“It was awesome to exalt God our Father together in unity, and it has made me very excited to continue in serving Him in evangelism and charity.  Praise God!”

Student at State U of New York at Buffalo “One student who attended the broadcast was not a member of a campus ministry.  He was the tech student who was running the satellite link station for us.  He stayed for the entire event and afterwards hung around to talk to us about our beliefs, and seemed to be interested and touched by the broadcast.  That was really cool!”

“Another student who attended the broadcast is one of the shyest guys I’ve ever met.  I rarely hear him talk, much less pray out loud.  I did not think that he would be open to praying out loud in the triads at all, but he surprised all of us, by expressing very heartfelt and bold prayers and took initiative several times, which to me is testimony God’s spirit was moving!!!”

“This was such a God-led vision and event, and we all felt it!  It was truly amazing! It was moving and evident that the spirit was in control, especially during the prayer times, we felt like we could have prayed for two more hours!”

Gena Minnix, Campus Minister at Blue Mountain Community College “It has motivated me and God has used your vision to inspire me to unite the Christian Ministries on my campus.  The University of Florida has a lot of ministries and it is kinda sad that we are not really united.  I now have a vision to change that.”

Sara Green, Student at U of Florida

“The best aspect for me was that we had three Christian professors present.  They were really touched and I believe that their burden for the campus was renewed.”

Bob Santos, Campus Minister at Indiana U of Pennsylvania “It was neat to see the students crying out to God over the body’s apathy.”

Rhonda Cowan, Campus Minister, U of Arkansas at Fayetteville

Jeremy Story, President, Campus Renewal Ministries

*MOBILIZING PRAYER FOR ‘THE CALL DC’

>From: Praysd@aol.com

>From:   louengle@familyclick.com (Lou Engle)

Dear Prayer Network Leaders,

There are moments in history when a door for massive change opens.  Great revolutions for good or for evil occur in the vacuum created by these openings.  It is in these times that men, women, and even entire generations risk everything to become the hinge of history, the pivotal point that determines which way that door will swing.

We feel that America is in such a moment today.  As you may have heard, we are calling a massive gathering of two generations: parents and their sons and daughters, to come to the Capitol Mall in Washington, DC Sept. 2, 2000 to fast and pray.  The gathering is named The Call DC.  Taken from Joel 2:15, when all is blighted and there is no remedy, in the midst of great moral decline, God’s answer to national crisis is a call to massive united prayer and fasting.

Beyond the Columbine massacre and the Wedgwood Baptist Church shootings, we are seeing a whole generation under satanic attack. The Call DC is a response to the groundswell of desperation in today’s youth.  Though our economy is booming, youth are in trouble and morality is declining.  Recent attacks on Christian youth have resulted in a cry for the Jesus of the Bible.  Youth are turning to Jesus - making a radical commitment to confront the culture - and change their world. The Call DC will bring this tremendous movement together. We believe that God has initiated this national summons and it is imperative for us all to carry out His command for the turning of America.

Recently, a national prophetic leader, Jim Goll earnestly exhorted us, to mobilize prayer.  Although The Call DC is on God’s heart, it will not be all that He intended it to be unless it is bathed in prayer.  Therefore, we are calling nationwide networks to join with Intercessors For America to fast on the first Friday of every month preceding The Call DC and in particular, to fast every Friday during the month of May.

We are also appealing that churches and networks everywhere would join in the Watch of the Lord for late night prayer watches those same Friday nights.  We are asking that the watch have a primary prayer focus of the youth of this nation and The Call DC.

Please also consider joining The Call DC Canopy of Prayer, a prayer group

for The Call DC leadership, coordinators and participants. This national 50

day canopy of prayer will cover this event and its’ participants 7 days a

week, 24 hours a day, for 50 days prior to the event!  Pastor Ron Pate is

the facilitator.  To participate in The Call DC Canopy of Prayer, please

contact Ron Pate at (530) 518-6586 or you may join the email group at the

website http://www.egroups.com/subscribe/TheCallDC_Canopy_of_Prayer

A sentence of death hangs over this young generation, the same one as in the days of Esther.  When Mordecai fasted for his teenage adopted daughter placed on the stage of history, sovereign reversals took place and demonic decrees were overturned. It is time for the Mordecai generation to pray for the Esther generation again!

Convenant with us in praying for God’s visitation on The Call DC.  We need fire from heaven.  Pray for a trumpet sound, a mobilization anointing to gather two generations from every state in the nation.  Pray for a spirit of unity to prevail that crosses ethnic and denominational lines. Pray finances are released.  Pray for the greatest youth awakening in the history of America.

Would you correspond back to us regarding your intention to carry The Call DC in prayer?   Please let Lou Engle know which churches and networks you will be linking with.  His telephone number is (626) 794-1199 x231.   Who knows if we have been brought into the kingdom for such a time as this?

*DYING TO LIVE

>From: “Terry J. Hallock” <watcong@midwest.net>

“For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law Christ died for nothing.”

Galatians 2:29-21

Jesus can change you but first He must have you—all of you. Jesus can heal and forgive you but first He must live within you—every bit of you.  You must come to the same crossroad that Paul arrived at. You must face the truth that you cannot and will not save yourself. No matter how hard you work or how religious you become it will only produce frustration and failure. Only one cure exists for your sin and that is Jesus’ blood. Only one path leads you to the flowing fountain of that blood and that is the path that leads to the Cross of Calvary. Only one act will cover you in that blood and that is the moment you are crucified with Christ so that you no longer live but Christ lives in you.

Dear Jesus, crucify my pride and self-will. Liberate me from my feeble attempts to save myself all by myself. Bring me to Your cross and crucify me there. Bury me in Your tomb and then resurrect me into Your new life. I give You my whole self. I surrender all of me to all of You. In Your mighty name and by the power of Your cleansing blood I pray. Amen and Amen.

*THE POWER OF UNITED PRAYER

>From: Biblicalwm@aol.com

We all have learned the power of prayer.  I often wonder how people live

who do not know about prayer.

However, the Bible says that when TWO people pray, something even more powerful takes place.

Find a prayer group or start one in your neighborhood, in your church or

where you minister.  It could be the greatest contribution of your entire life.

Jesus said, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name,

there am I in the midst of them.”  Matthew 18:20

*VERNON HILLS, IL: WATCH OF THE LORD

>From: “Donna C. Claffey” <fotbWatch@msn.com>

Friends of the Bridegroom Watch of the Lord Invites you to participate

in the Watch of the Lord

Pal Bok Church, Vernon Hills

Friday, May 26th   9:00 p.m.

F.O.T.B. Watch of the Lord is a ministry that is focused on the goal of calling God’s Warrior Bride to arise and to join with Her Heavenly Bridegroom in taking back the ground that the enemy has stolen in this region.  We believe that we are in a season in which God is calling His people to come together and seek His face, and that He will then pour out blessings upon this land.

In addition, F.O.T.B. Watch is a ministry that is committed to calling the Bride to arise in holy passion for Jesus, and to pursue Him with wholehearted abandonment.  As we gather at the Watch, we will spend hours sitting at our Bridegroom’s feet, pouring out our hearts in worship before Him.

The Bridegroom Watch is a time of waiting on the Lord in intimacy.  It is a time of sitting before Him as His beloved Bride.  A time of reclaiming, establishing and strengthening our “First Love” for Him.

Watching refers to the ability to fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.  As this happens, the prophetic is released, and we see God revealing strategies to reclaim our families, cities and our nation for His Kingdom.

The Watch is a setting where the forerunner cry of Matthew 25:6 can be proclaimed: “Behold the Bridegroom is coming!”   The Watch is a way for us to respond to the forerunner cry as we are willing leave our comfort zones, shake off the slumber and go out to meet Him as a Bridegroom.

Come and Watch with us as we pour out our worship to the Lord as a fragrant offering, and then join with our King as His warrior Bride to take back the ground that the enemy has stolen!

*ARE WE AT A “TIPPING POINT?”

>usapray@aol.com (Intercessors For America)

“In the dispensation of the fulness of the times He will gather together in

one all things in Christ, both of which are in heaven and which are on the

earth-in Him.”      Ephesians 1:10

Dear Partners-in-Prayer,

A chord was struck in many of us who attended our annual National Prayer Committee meetings in Washington, DC recently as David Bryant, President, shared his sense that the Prayer and Revival Movement is nearing a “Tipping Point”. He and some others had read Malcolm Gladwell’s recent book, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference (Little, Brown and Company). While a secular study, the book is an amazing compilation of how groups numbering 150 or less which foster the building of relationships, and the breaking down into smaller groups of around 10 people who practice true caring, can release a dynamic “social epidemic” which can impact and change an entire region, market or nation. Looking back to America’s beginning Gladwell notes such a dynamic working in the warning of Paul Revere. Reading his account, I also thought of the “Committees of Correspondence” and the many “Prayer and Reformation Societies” that were functioning during our Colonial and Revolutionary War period.

My spirit “bore witness” and, having just completed a “marathon” time of travel and participation in many new Church ministry expressions emerging across the nation, I was further confirmed in my own assessments.  I have been privileged to personally put my finger “on the Pulse” of the following:  Christian teen rallies which commonly see 1,000 - 40,000 in attendance and are mobilizing hundreds of thousands of youth toward The Call DC gathering on the Mall in Washington, DC over Labor Day Weekend.  September 2; the first-ever student initiated Campus Renewal ministry broadcast which joined students on 80 college campuses in a Solemn Assembly; the new multi-ministry Operation Starting Line collaborative prison outreach presenting the gospel in prison “yards” with the potential of reaching not the normal 20 percent, but 60 to 100 percent of the prison populations; Mission America with 10,000 lighthouse churches and nearly one million Christian homes already registered as Lighthouses in their neighborhoods.; the Alpha programing bringing adults to Christ in affluent neighborhoods; the March for Jesus/Jesus Day 2000 drawing the heart of the church outward in mercy and compassion; the convening at a Native American Summit and a number of Many Nations/One Voice Celebrations which strategize on how to build Native prayer networks; more effectively bring the gospel to the remaining three million Native Americans, and to see Native leaders and culture affirmed in the Church and released across the world; a continuing emphasis on Black/White racial reconciliation and partnership which emerges almost every time Church leaders are gathered; the recognition and inclusion of leaders from the growing Hispanic and Asian communities in cooperative prayer and ministry expressions; the planting of the first churches in unreached nations by AD2000 networks; and I could go on and on.

All of the vital life-changing ministry expressions noted have, at their core, a relatively small group of people who are functioning in accountable relationships. The local, city and regional work of these expressions is prayerfully nurtured and executed from small groups or networks.

A theme at some Christian youth rallies is: “Draw me, draw me Lord, and I’ll come running after You!” Don’t be surprised if you soon find yourself spiritually running as you try to keep up with Jesus in our midst.  I believe He truly is moving His Church-in answer to your continued prayer and fasting-toward present and  future divinely appointed “tipping points.” This is not a time to “draw back,” but rather to press forward in our personal prayer lives, our families and prayer clusters as never before!(Rev 8:1-5)

Sincerely, with Christ before us,

Gary Bergel, IFA President

*DEMOGRAPHICS ENLIGHTEN OUR PRAYERS

>From: “Crosswalk.com” <editor@crosswalk.com>

...The demographics of the “born-again” population are changing, researcher George Barna (see link #1 below) says. The biggest growth in the last 10 years has occurred among Asian-Americans, he said. “If spiritual revival has occurred among any group of people in the U.S. in the past decade, it is undeniably among Asians.” In 1991, 5 percent of Asian-Americans had made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ that they believed would give them eternal life, Barna’s working definition of a born-again Christian. That figure has increased to 27 percent.  ...The last 10 years have seen tremendous spiritual growth in the South, already the heartland of born-again American Christianity, Barna said. There has been no increase in the likelihood of adults professing faith in Christ in either the Northeast or in the West, but a 22 percent increase in the South.  ...Nationally, the percentage of born-again adults 50 or older has risen from 31-41 since 1991, Barna said. Meanwhile, it is even harder to penetrate the ranks of those under 30. In 1991, 28 percent of adults ages 18 to 29 had professed faith in Jesus Christ, but today, just 26 percent do, Barna said. “Baby Busters have proven to be the most gospel-resistant generation the church has seen in many years.”

...The past decade has seen a lot of religious activity among men, but there is little evidence of significant spiritual change among them, he said. In 1991, 32 percent of men had accepted Christ as their savior, a figure that has increased to 36 percent.

...The 1990s brought about 10 million more adult born-again believers, because of population growth, Barna said. Most of the growth comes from among individuals making $60,000 a year or more, many of whom are “living ‘the good life’ and, upon analyzing the salvation proposal, determined that inviting Christ into their life is a smart choice,” he said.

...”For many of these individuals, faith in Jesus is simply a good deal. They are not likely to view their faith decision as the catalyst of a lifestyle that demands sacrifice, selflessness, and service. Faith in Christ represents an eternal insurance policy for them rather than a significant change of heart about the ultimate meaning of life, or how to honor Christ through their decisions, behavior, and resources.”
