1. PASTOR PHIL'S PRAYER LETTER
Just a quick "thank you" for the many positive comments we've
received for the NPPN. One of many amazing things God is doing, it is good to
know He is using this initiative too!
Upcoming travel includes gathering with the National Prayer Committee in DC
(over the National Day of Prayer), a meeting of national network leaders in
Denver (May 10th). a Pastors' Prayer Group Pray-Day (retreat), an
intergenerational / interactive Sunday Prayer Adventure (including picnic
blankets and beach balls!) and a writer's workshop for the new Multiplying
Church Network facilitator's manual.
Also appreciated are your concerns and comments regarding our July 1st
transition (from a paid position with Strategic Focus Cities to... The Lord
has used them to confirm and encourage us to stay focused on mobilizing
corporate prayer - So, we begin the task of working with the Lord as he raises
our support. More details to follow. Prayers very much
appreciated ~ (:>) Phil

3. DETROIT, MI: PRAYING AT THE
GATES
>From: RWill16122@aol.com [mailto:RWill16122@aol.com]
We here in Detroit are doing a 'continuous' assault
and gathering for a 'breakthrough' in our city ... We are revisiting the
'gates' of our city to pray that 'life if God' that was declared over this
city would come forth ... There are 7 gates to this city; each one was visited
2 years ago ... April 1st we will visit the first gate, the international gate
at Hart Plaza and the Detroit River, plus we plan a Jericho run ... We
will not stop until their is a massive breakthrough. Pray for us; our concert
of prayer tour continues in the city of Detroit, now Pontiac, Flint, Saginaw,
and other out line areas.

4. FULL TIME INTERNET PASTOR
>From: <fridayfax@dawneurope.net>
Eric Elder lives with his family in Chicago. His job: internet pastor.
"Four years ago, I was co-pastor in a church with 100 members, and did a
little in the Internet on the side. I felt this to be God's call, and made my
Internet work my full-time ministry. Last year, an average of 4,500 people
visited my web site (http://www.theranch.org) each month, where they read
testimonies, view video sermons or have the opportunity to pray with
someone." Ex-homosexual Elder used to believe that God accepted
homosexuality, until someone showed him in the Bible that it is not God's
will. He prayed, and God immediately set him free.
He is now convinced that homosexuality is caused by hurts, not
inherited. Half of the e-mails he receives are from people seeking help with
sexual problems or hurts, and Elder has found e-mail to be a useful tool in
helping people with problems in these areas who do not dare to 'out'
themselves anywhere else. He was recently able to help the pastor of a church
who contacted him with a special need, initially via e-mail, later via
telephone and in person. Beat Baumann and Daniel Hari, who recently visited
Elder, believe that Elder is perhaps the only Internet pastor in the world
supported by friends and donations instead of a large organisation, and say
that it is clear that he has found his calling.

<info@brigada.org>
Finally, maybe there's a good reason for this
"instant messaging" stuff! :-) Last Thursday night I stopped by the
chat room over at: http://www.strategicnetwork.org for a "live"
prayer session on Nepal. It was indeed encouraging to "hear" so many
people lifting up needs in this one nation... and the same thing has happened
recently for Afghanistan, India, Kazakhstan, and Indonesia. I'll admit...
there was something stimulating about knowing all these folks were praying
from somewhere in the world... and they do it every Thursday night. I think
this concept is about to explode sky-high. And ... while you're visiting their
chat room, check out the growth in groups at Strategic Networks. They've been
busy!

10. PRAY SACRAMENTO: NEW PRAYER
INITIATIVE LAUNCHED
>From: joewalsh@cprnet.org (Joe Walsh)
The PraySacramento three-year-prayer initiative is about to be launched with
great enthusiasm on the day of the National Day of Prayer. Close to a
hundred churches have committed to participate in the PraySacramento Regional
Prayer Covenant. This is where God's people, in a spirit of unity and
agreement in Christ, seek God's face in worship, forgiveness, and
reconciliation on the first Friday of the month with fasting and prayer in our
places of worship, employment, and in our families. If you would like a
copy of the Regional Prayer Covenant and how you can adapt it for your
community, just email Joe Walsh at: JoeWalsh@cprnet.org.
The last three weeks have been busy watching God work in Pastors Prayer
Summits (2), and a Woman of Faith event at the ARCO Arena. While
Pastors have gone up to mountains to declare the Lordship of Jesus Christ over
their cities, other intercessors have gone to high places in our city and
outside our of Sacramento to claim our city for the Lord Jesus Christ.
There have been prayer walks are the Capitol and intercessory moments at
the California Bronze state map in Capitol Park. From there prayer was
offered up to God on behalf of the entire state: border to border, from
the sierras to the ocean, and region by region.
Weekly pastors prayer gatherings, along with intercessor support with
individuals from many denominations is beginning to make a big difference in
the atmosphere of spiritual unity and fervency. The over 50,000 Slavic
population in our region is also making a significant impact. Unity and
openness from them to other English speaking churches is slowly growing.
They are a people very fervent in their devotion to Christ in prayer.
The spiritual temperature is significantly changing in the North state,
whether it's Redding to Modesto, from the Sierras to the coast God is moving.
It's been the prayer on the lips of many pastors and intercessors in
recent years: "Lord Jesus, do not pass us by. We want Your
presence in our churches and city. We invite You to come as never
before." I'm watching God answer their heart cry.
There's a long way to go. But as a dear black brother weepingly told me
recently: "It's happening, Joe. The blessing is starting to burst
forth." That's what we want to see more and more. Please join
with the many pastors and prayer-warriors from Vacaville to the Sierras, Mt.
Shasta to Modesto, who are want God's presence to touch down in glory and
power, for His Church will be revived and spiritual awakening to come to our
cities and towns, so that hundreds of thousands of people may come into the
Kingdom of God, . . . before it's too late!

11. INLAND NW: 30-60,000 PARTY IN
NATIONAL FOREST
>From: tedd <jesuskids@earthlink.net>
Brother Phil, In July of 2001 the world is sure to put
their hand to their mouth as thousands of homeless youth come to know the Lord
Jesus Christ this summer in the WA/Idaho national forest.
Literally thousands of young people live in the National forest of
America, perpetually seeking the spiritual substance that fills the emptiness
within.
The greater Church of the Inland NW is preparing to reap the harvest
that is sure to astound the world. Literally, God is about to light a
fire that will burn from the lives of many who've been overlooked, in that
they do not fit the norm. Yes, these people, average 20 years of
age, roam the country from one gathering to another searching and attempting
to live a life of love, a lot like the hippies of the sixties and seventies.
When they truly find love, the love of God found in Christ Jesus, Look out
world!
North of Spokane, WA all the way to Ion, WA somewhere in the national
forest, some 30,000 to 60,000 people will gather to party and the Church of
the Inland NW is preparing to reap the greatest harvest ever at one time.
Please check out: http://www.fimi.org to see the preparation of the
Church. We need the prayers of the saints

12. PRAYING TOWARDS 24/7
>From: "Revival in the Land" <revival@thesecondcall.org>
The time is coming when churches will be open 24/7 and
a continual gathering will take place. People will 'flock' in when they see
that God is moving there. They will be miraculously saved and healed the
moment they come in touch with the supernatural power of God. Just forget
about the church as we knew it, the intensity of the power of the Holy Spirit
that is about to manifest is such that the way we do church will not be able
to stand in His presence.

13. PRAY FOR END TO ILLINOIS CHURCH
SHOOTINGS
>From: USAPRAY@aol.com
With the unexplained shooting incidents in Illinois,
where six churches have been fired on for no known reason, and with a rise in
the incidence of school shootings, we urge IFA partners-in-prayer to intercede
before the throne of grace for protection and safety throughout our country.
Pray that parents, school teachers, staff and students would have eyes
to see and ears to hear the warnings from students who are angry or in
distress. Pray that the Lord would send His emissaries to troubled persons.
Pray that the person or persons behind the Illinois shooting incidents
be apprehended.

also that the Pastors of these congregations will hear a clear word from the
Lord on how to lead the flock and how to make the most of this opportunity in

14. HOW ORDINARY PRAYER BECOMES
EXTRAORDINARY
>From: Francois Carr <mwtedeum@mweb.co.za>
What can be accomplished in
and through an ordinary man who trusts in an extraordinary God?
The story of George Muellers life is one of the most
remarkable episodes in the history of the Christian Church. He set out to
demonstrate that, as he put it, "there is reality in the things of
God". In the early 1830s he embarked on an extraordinary adventure.
Disturbed by the faithlessness of his contemporaries, he longed to have
something to point to "as a visible proof that our God and Father is the
same faithful God as ever He was". Praying in every penny of the costs,
he supervised the building of five large orphanages-still standing on Ashley
Downs, Bristol-housing thousands of children. He was a man with a remarkable
relationship with, and faith in God. He gave the following insights on how our
faith may be strengthened?
First. The careful reading of the Word of God,
combined with meditation on it. Through reading, the believer becomes more and
more acquainted with the nature and character of God, and thus sees more and
more, besides His holiness and justice, what a kind, loving, gracious,
merciful, mighty, wise, and faithful Being He is. And the consideration of
this, if God has become known to us through prayer and meditation on His own
Word, will lead us, in general at least, with a measure of confidence to rely
upon HIM.
Second. As with reference to the growth of every grace
of the Spirit it is of the utmost importance that we seek to maintain an
upright heart and a good conscience, and therefore do not knowingly and
habitually indulge in those things which are contrary to the mind of God. If I
am continually grieving Him, and seek to detract from the glory and honour of
Him in whom I profess to trust, upon whom I profess to depend?
Third. If we desire our faith to be strengthened we
should not shrink from opportunities where our faith may be tried, and
therefore, through the trial, be strengthened.
Four. We need to let God work for us, when the hour of
the trial of our faith comes, and do not work a deliverance of our own.

15. SCIENCE DISCOVERS THE POWER OF
INTERCESSION
>From: "Chuck Straka" <straka1@usexpress.net>
The Archives of Internal Medicine now reports scientific demonstration
of a fact long known among persons of faith -- prayer works! The published
study, "A Randomized, Controlled Trial of the Effects of Remote,
Intercessory Prayer on Outcomes in Patients Admitted to the Coronary Care
Unit," led by Dr. William Harris, examined medical outcomes of 990
cardiac patients admitted to Kansas City's St. Luke's Hospital. Neither the
patients nor the medical staff knew the research was being conducted. The
intercessors praying for the experimental group knew the subjects of their
prayers by first name only. Patients being prayed for did 11 percent better
than those receiving usual care only. No known natural phenomenon could
account for the results. The journal's editor, James Dalen, concluded,
"This is a very well-designed study and it is very well written. In this
particular study, the patients benefited. If this was a medication, the
conclusion would be that this medication helped."

16. WASHINGTON, DC: A RISING LEVEL
OF PRAYER
>From: charisma@strang.com
Behind-The-Scenes Prayer Spurs Capitol Hill Revival
Congress members and staff attend about 30 Bible study and prayer groups
Behind-the-scenes prayer is having a growing impact in the nation's capital,
according to ministry leaders who report a spiritual renewal among politicians
and policy advisers in Washington, D.C.
Long-term staffers on Capitol Hill “will tell you that there is indeed a
kind of spiritual revival taking place," says Frank Wright, director of
the D. James Kennedy Center for Christian Leadership. "I would say there
has been at least a tenfold increase in spiritual interest in the last 15
years."
Around 30 Bible study and prayer groups attended by members of Congress and
staff meet on Capitol Hill, with membership ranging from a handful to between
50 and 60. More than a dozen ministries have been formed to encourage prayer
for the city and its decisionmakers.
"When I first started praying in the city, I hardly saw anyone else here
praying," says Sandy Grady, who moved to the area in 1974 to pray for the
government and its leaders. "But now people come to our nation's capital
all the time just to pray on-site."
Capital Christian Center in Boise, Idaho, last year founded the National
Prayer Center in Washington, D.C., to enable visiting Christians to pray in
the capital. Pastor Ken Wilde has brought groups of intercessors to the
capital to pray on location for the last five years.
Art and Sharon Snow, pastors of Brentwood Foursquare Church in Bladensburg,
Md., produced the Prayer Around the Beltway guide to focus encircling
intercession on the city. "As more and more churches come together in
prayer, the powers over the city will fall," they say.
The rising level of prayer has not been without opposition. Pat Mahoney,
executive director of the Christian Defense Coalition, has been arrested more
than 25 times in the last nine years for holding prayer gatherings and
carrying signs on the steps of the Supreme Court building. He is now banned
from coming within 50 feet, but helps organize vigils for others.

17. WHAT SATAN FEARS MOST
>From: "David Hitchcock" <lord89@hotmail.com>
What Satan fears most is a man on his knees;
Not vast marching armies with great weaponry.
He knows he can stand against the power of men;
To engage us in battle is mere sport to him.
But a man on his knees with his head bowed in prayer
Is something quite different, To the prince of the air.
For when he sees us in prayer to our God most high,
He knows we have seen through his devilish lies.
That's why Satan fears most a man on his knees;
And we'll keep him trembling if our prayers never cease.

18. FASTING & PRAYER TO SERVE
CITY REACHING MOVEMENTS
>From: fasting&prayer@ccci.org
Sunday, April 8th , concluded a call to believers around the nation to fast
and pray for 40 days (Ash Wednesday through Palm Sunday) for revival and
spiritual awakening.
Let me share with you Dana Lans' testimony of how she was greatly impacted
during her time of prayer and fasting. Dana Lan works with Athletes in
Action, a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, and at the time of this
writing, she was on a short-term missions trip to Johannesburg, South Africa.
"I didn't have an itinerary or list of
prayer requests that I wanted God to answer. I just wanted to spend this time
really seeking God's face and getting closer to Him. I did not see God do
anything miraculous during the fast, and I struggled through most of it. But
it was in my struggling before God that my relationship with Him deepened.
During the fast, I read Bill Bright's book, "The Transforming Power
of Fasting and Prayer". It was helpful for me to read about the physical
changes that were going to occur, so that when they did happen, I was aware of
what was going on. The most powerful part of the book was the testimonies of
others that had persevered through a 40-day fast. I am thankful to God
for calling me to live a life of consecration to Him, and for allowing me
these 40 days to really live that out."
God is impacting lives both individually and corporately through the movement
of Fasting & Prayer! In fact, we see evidence of spiritual awakening
here in the United States as well as many places in other countries that
indicate God is moving----and that is encouraging! I would love to hear from
you as to how prayer and fasting has impacted your life, your ministry, and/or
your community. Please prayerfully consider sharing your testimony with
us for the purpose of being a help and encouragement to others. You can email
your testimony to fasting&prayer@ccci.org .
Following the Fasting & Prayer 2000 gathering, in Orlando, our leadership,
after much prayer, was led to begin a stronger emphasis on a fasting and
prayer resource center.
The Fasting & Prayer Resource Center seeks to serve city-reaching
movements in their efforts toward revival, by helping to under-gird their
planned prayer events, initiatives, or gatherings with the powerful biblical
discipline of fasting and prayer. This is accomplished by encouraging
them in a time of corporate fasting, prior to launching their event, utilizing
a variety of resource tools available through the Resource Center.
I invite you to check out our new web site and calendar of events at http://www.fastingprayer.com,
which features multiple city-reaching prayer initiatives and a variety of
resources such as the above mentioned "The Transforming Power of Fasting
and Prayer". This is where you will also find the latest news about
the next Fasting & Prayer gathering! Please continue in your commitment to
fast and pray for the spiritual renewal of our nation and revival world-wide.
Sid Wright, Executive Director of Fasting & Prayer, Campus Crusade for
Christ

19. PRAYING FOR ROSES IN THE
BAPTISTRY
>From: "Harvest Online" <bret@harvestprayer.com>
On a Sunday in February, the Clovernook Christian Church in Cincinnati invited
people in the congregation to "Put a Name in the Wall." The
church was doing some new construction work on the baptistry. The
contractor was asked to leave a panel open next to the baptistry so that
anyone who wishedto could:
*commit to praying for a friend or loved one who needs to come to Christ
write the name of the person on a card
*put the card into the baptistry cabinet opening take a silk rose home
as a reminder to continue to pray for that person.
Now that the baptistry has been completed, and the opening sealed up, a wreath
has been hung above it. Whenever someone who had been prayed for is
baptized (no matter where it occurs), those in the congregation will bring the
silk rose to church and add it to the wreath. Since it is possible that
a baptism is the result of many prayers, there may be more than one rose
returned for each person. Roses are also available for any others who
are baptized, realizing that some decisions for Christ will be as a result of
the prayers of others who are not necessarily part of the Clovernook
congregation. What a fantastic way to celebrate answered prayer when people
come to Christ!
