* PASTOR PHIL'S PRAYER LETTER
Dear NPPN Friends and Colleagues,
I write this note having just returned to my hotel room following an evening of
prayer with the National Prayer Committee. Over 125 of America's prayer
leadership have gathered for a prayer and planning retreat tomorrow followed by
15 hours of activities on the National Day of Prayer.
The Lord has given us a great sense of anticipation. It is obvious He is at work
in towns large and small, in ways both old and new, to bring us into a genuine
Holy Spirit revival that leads to a Christ awakening in our cities.
Your interest in promoting prayer. Your involvement in the prayer movement in
your church or city. Your devotion to prayer. None is wasted. None is
unnoticed. Allow the Lord to encourage you. Continue to pray without ceasing.
Now is the time; not to give up, but to look up!
Pastors, be faithful in calling your pastoral colleagues together. Your Pastors'
Prayer Group, though one small part, is a vital piece in the work of Christ to
awaken His Church. I ask the Lord to strengthen you, so that you may be
faithful to your calling of calling Pastors to the place of prayer.
Colossians 4:17,
Pastor Phil
P.S. Hope it is not too late for you to read / download / print out the NPPN

>From: John J Eckle <JohnEckle@juno.com>
Hi Phil, thank you for including me in your e-mail list for NPPN over the past
year. Embracing Seattle took off to a good start last year, and we are looking
forward to great things that the Lord will do here in 2002, our focus year. We
have always recognized that prayer is the foundation for all we do out here, and
one of our very basic strategies is to pray for every household in the Seattle
area by name throughout 2002. The way our Prayer Team has organized to do this
is through what is called the "Household Prayer Strategy". From a numerical
point of view it is organized as follows:
Population within the Puget Sound Baptist Association area: 4,000,000
Number of Households: 1,500,000
Number of Households to be prayed for each day by a single prayer warrior: 10
Number of Households to be prayed for each month by a single prayer warrior: 300
(ie 10 per day)
Number of Households to be prayer for each month by 5000 prayer warriors:
1,500,000
In other words, each household will be prayed for every
month throughout 2002
So far we have about 1000 prayer warriors signed up. Each prayer warrior has
received a list of 300 names broken down into lists of 10 per day. We are in
need of 4000 more prayer warriors. I have attached the typical information
brochure and sign up sheet that can be used to recruit prayer warriors. Another
way to sign up is to visit our web site:
www.embracingseattle.com and there
is a page for signups and an overview of what is happening in Seattle. We would
very much appreciate your help in enlisting others.
Yours in Christ, John Eckle, City Coordinator for Embracing Seattle
Almost four million people live in the Greater
Seattle area. Yet, 90% of this population is not associated with, nor do they
attend, church on any given Sunday. Only 4% attend an evangelical Christian
church. The purpose of the “Embracing Seattle” Household Prayer Strategy
is to intercede by name for 1.5 million households in the Greater Seattle area
from now through December, 2002.
Will you join 5,000 prayer warriors around the globe to lift up Seattle in
prayer... and rejoice with us as we see the lives of individuals and communities
spiritually renewed and awakened? Please fill out the attached response card and
return to:
Embracing Seattle Household Prayer Strategy
11649 1st Ave. South, Seattle, WA 98168
Or register through our Web site: http://www.embracingseattle.com
Why pray for every household in the Greater Seattle
region?
We believe God is bringing about a major movement in the Puget Sound area. We
believe He is preparing His people to join Him in a great work... the work of
evangelism. We are anxious to join Him as He wraps His loving arms around the
Sound. But we need prayer support from around the globe to pray for each
household in the Seattle area.
Who will we be praying for?
The purpose of the “Embracing Seattle” Household Prayer Strategy is to
intercede by name for 1.5 million households in the Greater Seattle area from
now through December, 2002. Through this concentrated intercession we will see
the lives of individuals and communities spiritually renewed and awakened.
How can I participate?
As a registered prayer partner, you will pray for ten different families in the
Greater Seattle area each day for a month. By the end of that month, you will
have interceded for 300 different families, by name! The intercession is
repeated each month through December, 2002. So by the end of the year, each
family will have been interceded for, by name, at least a dozen times.
How many prayer partners are needed to fulfill this mission?
We are praying for 5,000 prayer warriors from around the globe to take part in
the “Embracing Seattle” Household Prayer Strategy. Would you commit
yourself today?

--->NPPNote:
Consider reading this as a prelude to prayer for repentance and revival in the
Church that leads to awakening in our nation and a transformation in our
culture...
In my last message I said that I would tell you of the solution of President
Abraham Lincoln to the problem of a nation which he believed had forsaken God.
In the horrible agony of the Civil War, during which over 500,000 soldiers were
killed, President Abraham Lincoln was faced with this question. In desperation,
he decided to declare a day of national humiliation, fasting and prayer. Here
is a portion of his proclamation:
"Whereas, it is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to owe their dependence
upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in
humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy
and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures
and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the
Lord....
"We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been
preserved these many years in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers,
wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown.
"But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved
us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; And have vainly
imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were
produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with
unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of
redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.
"It behooves us, then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess
our national sins, and to pray to the God that made us.
"Now, therefore, in compliance with the request, and fully concurring in the
views of the Senate, I do, by this my proclamation, designate and set apart
Thursday, the 30th day of April, 1863, as a day of National Humiliation, Fasting
and Prayer....
"Done at the City of Washington the 30th day of March, in the year of our Lord
1863. Signed/Abraham Lincoln."
End of Proclamation.
History shows that following this special day, a string of successes brought
about the end of that terrible war and the salvation of the nation. Please join
me in praying that God will do it again for us.
Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
Bill Bright

>From: "Pastor's Weekly Briefing" <pwb@fotf.org>
>By: H.B. London, Jr.
This week, I have been with chaplains from the U.S. Air Force. Military
clergy from all across the country gathered for a few days of refreshment and
enrichment. I felt honored to be asked to address and fellowship with these
dedicated Americans and committed churchmen.
What stood out was their concern for those under their care and the reality
of possible deployment and absence from their families. There is a loneliness
that exists in military ministry due to the frequent moves and very long hours.
They were interested in what was going on in the American church and the low
level of spiritual training their young men and women bring to the Air Force.
They talked about the many that come out of dysfunctional families and were
concerned that they had so little time with them. In many ways, their hands are
tied, but in so many other ways, they make a significant difference.
One chaplain noted that, when the budget calls for either buying bullets or
placing chaplains, bullets often win.
Do you know any military chaplains? Do you have their families in your
church? Please make a determined effort to honor them, pray for them and look
after their children.
I am encouraged by my experience with these wonderful men and their chaplain
assistants. I will be more concerned for them. Will you join me?
Pray for the Middle East!

SEATTLE (BP)--Thirty percent of the 1.5 million households in metro
Seattle are ethnic -- 159 different language groups.
That's Gihwang Shin's mission field. Shin, who is the language new work
strategist for Puget Sound Baptist Association, and his wife, Hye Sun,
were among the featured missionaries during the March 3-10 North
American Mission Board's Annie Armstrong Week of Prayer.
Shin sees his foremost responsibilities as being a Christian, the
husband of Hye Sun -- "Gift of Grace" -- and the father of three
children, each named Grace -- Hye Kang (River of Grace), 10; Hye Woo
(Rain of Grace), 4; and Hye Song (Song of Grace), 18 months.
Shin said Hye Sun is a full partner in ministry. She has a gift for
hospitality; the house is always filled with church leaders and their
families, and with friends from many nations. Because he is often gone,
she is the main caregiver for the children.
"Actually I am getting better than the last 10 years," Shin said. "I
have a lot of meetings, but I am having more time with the children."
In his ministry role Shin helps determine ethnic church planting
priorities, identifies and develops new leadership, and supports and
encourages pastors as they reach their cultures with the gospel.
"Where are the unreached people? Everywhere," said Shin, who frequents
area junior and senior high schools "just to introduce myself. Their
parents are working hard. Maybe the kids want someone to talk to."
Shin also frequents Puget Sound's 54 ethnic congregations. One of his
priorities is establishing networks among the 15 language groups where
Southern Baptists already are working. Fully functioning networks that
develop emerging leaders and locate church starting sites, he said,
would free him to concentrate on unreached language groups.
But until that happens -- and already it's beginning to take place
among Hispanics and Koreans -- Shin will continue to focus on all 159
language groups. He connects with them on school campuses, at
celebrations and at shopping areas frequented by ethnics.
His gentle scholar's appearance coupled with a polio-inflicted gait
creates an aura of accessibility and vulnerability that opens doors to
countless conversations.
"I am not worthy, [God] considered me worthy and the Holy Spirit pushes
me a little further," Shin said while preaching from 1 Timothy 1:12 at
a recent Sunday afternoon Korean worship service in Oak Harbor, about
two hours north of Seattle. Five women and one young girl sat in rapt
attention -- the remnant of a 30-member congregation before the former
pastor left. "That's God's grace on my call."
He is "pushed" -- in addition to the contacts he generates -- by census
bureau reports, demographic studies, windshield surveys to see
firsthand the needs, and contacts made by ethnics to the Puget Sound
Baptist Association.
Thirty minutes prone on the floor each early morning prepare Shin for
the day's work. "My question is, 'What can I do for you, Father?'" Shin
said of his times of prayer. "If I say something expecting, I could go
wrong. By waiting on him to show me what he wants done, then in his
timing, it works out.
"In starting churches, I want to sense God's movement," Shin continued.
"If God moves ethnic leaders here, that's a good sign."
At least 800 Haitians live in metro Seattle. They had no church of any
kind to worship God in, and called the Puget Sound Association to ask
for one. Shin met with them, and -- seeing their sincerity -- began to
pray, "Father, do you want a church for these Haitian people in
Seattle?"
Days later, a Haitian pastor in New York City called Shin. He had
trained two pastors who sensed God's call to Seattle. Did Shin have a
church where they could serve?
Within two months, the Haitian people had a church in which they could
worship God in a way that was culturally relevant to them, and in a
language their heart understood.
"It doesn't take long to start a church," Shin said. "Four to five
meetings with the church starter." The meetings with the church
starter, associational planning group, and core group are the end
result of months, sometimes years, of prayer and preliminary work, Shin
acknowledged.
The Haitian church is one of about a dozen started since June 2000,
when Shin was called as language new work strategist.
A second-generation Asian church is another new work. Some of its
members drive three hours to attend services "because it meets their
needs," Shin said. Completely Americanized, yet with love and loyalty
to their families, traditions and cultures, second-generation Asians of
many nationalities find their hearts and spirits lifted by the Asian
cadence of the English-speaking service.
Not long after he arrived in Seattle, Shin became acutely aware of the
spiritual need on the Indian reservations in the Puget Sound
Association. He became convinced of the priority need to start a
Southern Baptist church for them.
"We've got to heal this land. We have responsibility for this land, and
Native Americans are a good starting point," Shin said. "To see revival
in America we need to do something for Native Americans."
He searched the nation for a Native American church starter with a call
to Seattle, but found no one. Russell Begaye, a Native American and
multiethnic church multiplication manager for the North American
Mission Board, suggested Shin, a Korean, look for a Korean to start
such a work. Native Americans and Koreans are said by some to have a
common ancestor.
Not long after that conversation, Shin heard from the pastor at Seattle
First Korean Baptist Church that his associate pastor had been leading
a prayer group with Native Americans for the previous two and a half
years.
That associate, Seong Hwa Park, is now pastor of the new work, First
Nations Baptist Church. Though growing, the congregation needs
financial sponsorship to thrive.
"We have limited resources in Puget Sound Baptist Association, but
bottom line, God is not limited," Shin said. "You just need to plug
into his resource."
Often preaching two or three times on Sunday, Shin said he enjoys the
opportunity of mingling with the congregations. In addition to simply
enjoying the fellowship, he's always looking for potential leaders who
can be trained and developed for the region's insatiable need for
church starters, or for informal "missionary" service for those who
return to their homeland.
"The most difficult part of what I do is finding good church planters,
good pastors," Shin said. "Most ethnic students at [Southern Baptists'
six] seminaries are Korean. Most who are not Korean, are Hispanic."
Where are the Ukrainian, Haitian, Native American, East Indian and
other church planters? They are in the congregations, or not yet
converted.
"I know the burden of these ethnic pastors," Shin said. "It's the same
burden I have. The need is so great, the call from God so strong, the
workers so few."
Ethnic pastors do all the things Anglo pastors do -- preaching,
studying, visiting, and planning. In addition, ethnic pastors assist
people in and outside their congregations with immigration and other
government issues, and with cross-cultural assimilation. It's a
daunting task, made more formidable because ethnic pastors feel a
burden also to identify, recruit, develop and train church planters.
And often they do this without the fellowship of another pastor of the
same ethnicity. Loneliness is a scourge for most ethnic pastors, Shin
said.
"Part of what I do is to encourage the pastors," he said. "I tell them,
'You are the gatekeeper for reaching the whole world for your people.'"
In the same way, Shin is the gatekeeper for the 159 language groups in
metro Seattle.
"God considered me trustworthy," Shin said. "He empowered me, so I do
my best, plus."

>From: "Impact Prayer Ministries" <impactprayermin1@tanaya.net>
I am sending this email message out across the USA inviting patriotic Americans
to devote 1 hour of Special Prayer on behalf of the US Armed Forces and their
Families weekly. Please share this email with your Sunday School Class, Church
Pastor, Synagogue Rabbi, and neighbors and friends. I call this Special Prayer :
" SPECIAL PRAYERTIME at the EAGLES NEST". It is a volunteer campaign of a
spiritual nature that I have formed here at "OPERATION:EAGLE" HQ's. I am
seeking to establish for the Glory of God- a 24 hour a day 7 days a week
National Prayer Circle on behalf of our US Armed Forces---This would mean that
at any given hour of the day, someone somewhere IS Praying for our US Armed
Forces and their Families.
Isaiah 40:31 reads: "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their
strength; they shall mount up with wings as Eagles; they shall run, and not be
weary;and they shall walk, and not faint." It is from this verse, that I have
formed this Campaign.
Six months after the events of September 11th, 2001 our nation is involved in
Homeland Security endeavors and overseas deployments of Troops engaging the
International Terrorists in combat actions in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
Meanwhile the Families of our Troops left behind at home are vital to supporting
the Troops and keeping the morale uplifted, despite the separation from home.
How can we expect the Wives and Children, Moms& Dads, and Families of our Troops
to do so, if they themselves are not Supported and Prayed for ?
For almost 20 years, as Director- "OPERATION: EAGLE" I have devoted my life to
Supporting the Troops overseas and their Families through volunteer mailings of
cards, letters, and "care packages" to "Any Service members".
However in this War against International Terrorism, volunteer mail campaigns
are suspended because of the threat of Anthrax or other BioTerrorism agents.
Back during Christmas 2001, I put together a 32 foot long support poster ,
filled with over 48,000 names of patriotic Americans who support our Troops of
OPERATION NOBLE EAGLE and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. Many of YOU added your
names and the names of your family to that support poster. Now this new
Campaign is underway.
The "SPECIAL PRAYERTIME at the EAGLES NEST" Campaign consists of all those who
Pray to spend at least 1 hour a week in Prayer for the Men and Women of the US
Armed Forces and their Families back at home.
Pray for protection of our National Leaders, our Pentagon officials, the US
Central Command, and the Officers and Enlisted Men and Women engaged in
OPERATION NOBLE EAGLE and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM both here in the USA and
Overseas.
Pray that the Wives and Children of our Troops are protected, uplifted in their
Spirits, and showered by God's Love and Grace and Blessings. Pray for the Troops
searching for the Terrorists. Pray that God grants them insight and information
as to where the Terrorists are hiding and that they can be engaged with minimal
loss of Life among our Troops. Pray for our Law Enforcement and Protective
Services Men and Women .
Pray that our Police Officials at the City, State, and Federal Level are
protected from Terrorist actions. Pray that our Intelligence gathering Officials
gain accurate and precise information concerning any threats, and that they are
able to prevent any further International Terrorists attacks upon our nation .
The events of September 11th, 2001 are a mere 6 months old. The War on Terrorism
is in it's infancy. We cannot rely solely upon the Superior Firepower of the US
Armed Forces to defeat International Terrorism. We cannot as a nation leave the
God of our Fathers out of the equation. We can unite as Americans and Pray God
grants us victory over Osama Bin Laden and all International Terrorism.
The War will be won if we admit the Battle belongs to the Lord of Heaven. The
Bible clearly states that "no weapon formed against us will prosper" if We place
our reliance upon God to grant us the victory over the Evil Ones who subscribe
to the murders of thousands of innocent men, women, and children. We have a
Supernatural God in the Father God Almighty. Our God is an awesome God ! There
is nothing too difficult for Him.
May God Richly Bless You and Keep You Safe!

THANK YOU FOR PRAYING FOR THE ANGOLA EASTER MEETINGS AND EVENTS - A number of us
have recently returned from the Easter OSL meetings and outreach at Angola
Prison in Louisiana. There are no words to describe the encounters we had with
Jesus as we spent part of Good Friday afternoon in the execution chamber and on
death row, and in our visits with 500+ prisoners in "lockdown" who could not
attend the outdoor East Sunday service. There is a mighty move of God at Angola
with inmates completing Bible College and pastoral training right on the
grounds, and planting more congregations on the 20,000 acre compound. Warden
Burl Cain and Chaplain Roger Mitchell are spearheading an incredible example of
what Restorative Justice - Restoring Shalom to our Communities can and should
be. As in each OSL statewide outreach, many hundreds and thousands of prisoners
continue to give their lives to Christ for the first time, and multitudes are
recommitting and signing up for long-term Bible study, and discipleship and
mentoring programs. The Lord is challenging us about "Operation Finishing Line"
- the great need for post-prison ministry and the role this will have in
bringing Revival to our nation.
Gary Bergel, Chairman, OSL Prayer Committee
PRAY FOR UPCOMING OSL PENNSYLVANIA OUTREACH - Please lift up the OSL campaign to
begin in Pennsylvania, May 16th - 26th. Pray the Lord would fling wide the doors
of the prisons in Pennsylvania for Operation Starting Line to come in and
deliver the gospel message. Ask the Lord to allow for smooth and thorough
preparation. Ask the Lord to send His Holy Spirit and prepare the hearts and
minds of the prisoners and correctional staff so they would be ready to receive
the Word. Pray for a great army of volunteers to rise up and take the joyful
burden of this ministry upon themselves and their churches.

14. JOSHUA PROJECT
---ADOPT-A-COLLEGE
>From: Collegeprayers@aol.com
Please, choose, adopt and pray for a college. The Colleges and Universities
have been like orphans for many years. As Christians we can ADOPT A COLLEGE,
thus providing a parenting role through our intercessory prayers. Our prayers
will support the college administration, board of directors, faculties,
students, alumnae, staff and families and also for all Christian ministries
involved with the institution.
Joshua Project is a prayer initiative to transform our educational institutions
by the power of concerted prayer, by believers praying both inside and outside
each institution.
Please return this e-mail with the name of the COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY you will be
praying for. If you like, please send your mailing address for more information.
We'll be praying for you. Your participation is invaluable to Reclaim the
Colleges for God.
God bless you for your initiative.

PRAYER NET – WORKS a prayer strategy for the city
"Plunk!" "What was that noise," I thought as I turned to look behind? As I
was struggling to pull in the fish I had just snagged, I was surprised to see
that someone else's two ounce sinker and treble hook had landed in my boat.
This was a story related to us by Pastor Dennis Chasteen at our last Pastor's
Prayer Fellowship. He was telling of fishing a salmon run in the New England
states. The technique was to cast a heavy sinker and a many-barbed hook into
the stream while the fish were running and hope to snag one. On the bank the
fishermen were often shoulder to shoulder and directly across the river from one
another. When a fish was snagged it often resulted in getting several lines
tangled to the point that there would be a dispute over who really caught it.
Even the fishermen on opposite banks would get entangled and be pulling against
one another. If someone in a boat happened to hook a fish the other fishermen
would then cast toward the boat as they believed that was where the fish were
running. That is how Dennis happened to have another fisherman's hook and
sinker land in his boat. (Does this somehow sound like church life today?)
The gist of all of this is that many hours and tremendous effort and expense
went into catching very few fish. However, the native people of Canada would
fish for the very same fish with remarkably different results. Only two men
would stretch a gill-net across the stream in which the salmon were running and
in no time the net would be full of shiny quivering fish--a catch that would
feed the village for many days.
CASTING A PRAYER NET by Dennis Chasteen
Jesus has called us to be fishers of men (Matt. 4:19). He uses fishing as an
analogy describing our commission to evangelize the world. He likens catching
fish to catching people.
Basically there are two different fishing methodologies we can employ to
complete this task. We can parallel fish or we can fish in an
integrated way. Parallel fishing is when we all stand on the bank and fish
with our individual poles. Each ministry casts its specialized line in an
attempt to catch individual fish. We fish together standing side by side casting
our lines into a sea of lost humanity.
Jesus was not talking to men who fished in this manner. The method of fishing
Jesus referred to was not parallel fishing but integrated fishing. He was
talking to men who fished with nets, not poles. These first century professional
fishermen knew the most effective way to catch fish was with nets. Two men with
poles can catch two fish. Two men with a net can catch a multitude of fish. In
both cases the fishermen are fishing together, but the integrated way reaps a
greater harvest.
In the Kanawha Valley we are blessed to live among a group of people who are
interested in net building. Presently there is an effort to create a Prayer-net
that will cover our region. (The Lord of the Harvest is fashioning His people in
our community into a net woven with prayer and knotted together with loving
trusting relationships.) Through this effort we hope to catch fish of every kind
(Ez. 47:10).
A group of Churches and Ministries are integrating our prayer efforts to "Seek
God for our City". Forty days we will join together spreading a net of
intercession over our geographic area. We are praying that God would visit the
valley in a unique and dramatic way.
Drop us a message. We will tell you how you can be part of this historic
initiative!
Yours in Him for a Transformed Community!!!
