€UPDATE ON PASTOR ARAUZ´S WIFE IN QUITO, EQUADOR
>From: Eddie Smith <us_prayertrack@compuserve.com>
>Date: Tue, Feb 23, 1999, 5:05 PM

Dear brothers and sisters,
Isn't it wonderful to know that we have a living God. And the He is the
maker and ruler of the Universe. We have seen His hand at work with our
sister Tania. She has recuperated thanks to Him.
The latest information that I have obtained with respect to sister
Tania is that God willing today at the latest tomorrow she will be
sent home. "Thank you Lord".
She is up and walking with aide. She is receiving rehabilitation with
her arms and legs. She is also eating some solids. Pastor Arauz is very
pleased. According to the doctor´s she is still looking forward to a
full recuperation in six months.
But with your prayers, six months will pass fast. We know God is a
perfect God and He is going to restore her completely. Please continue
to pray not only for her complete recovery, but also that God provide
for the medical expenses, which are more than they can afford at this time.
The medical fees for the hospital ascend to approximately 45 million
sucres which is about $6.000 U.S.
So we ask that you continue to pray. Once again thank you for your
prayers, and God Bless you.

€ DENOMINATIONAL LEADERS CALL FOR UNITED PRAYER

Diverse Christian Ministries Urge Church to Move from Nominal to Authentic
Christianity

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 2 - An unprecedented gathering of Christian
denominational leaders are calling for the Church in America to unite in
extraordinary prayer for one purpose: to fulfill the Great Commission of
Christ during this generation.

The Church leaders issued the call during the annual meeting of Mission
America held Jan. 21-22 in San Francisco.  Mission America is a coalition
of more than 350 national Christian leaders from 67 denominations, some 250
para-church ministries and 56 ministry networks whose vision is to mobilize
Christians to share the Gospel with every man, woman and young person in
America by year-end 2000.

"We strongly urge all churches and all Christians of America to unite in
seeking the face of God through prayer and fasting, persistently asking our
Father to send revival to the Church and spiritual awakening to our nation
so that Christ's Great Commission might be fulfilled worldwide in our
generation," reads the statement subsequently ratified this week by leaders
of the coalition.

Signatories include Dr. Robert Bakke, executive director of National Prayer
Advance for the Evangelical Free Church of America; Dr. Edward Foggs,
General Secretary of the Church of God; Dr. Eddie Fox, director of
evangelism for the World Methodist Council; Dr. Bob Ricker, President of
the Baptist General Conference; and Bishop George McKinney of the Church of
God in Christ and Vice-Chairman of Mission America.

The statement calls for Christians to join together in five "rhythms of
prayer;" daily prayer and Bible reading; weekly prayer and fasting; monthly
prayer services emphasizing neighborhoods; quarterly assembling in
multi-church prayer events with special focus on cities; and annually
participating in nationwide prayer events with emphasis on the nation and
world.

"This is really a call for Christians to move from nominal Christianity to
authentic Christianity," said Dr. Paul Cedar, Chairman and CEO of Mission
America.  "As Christians live and pray with humble hearts seeking God's
will, we can be a light that can shine even in the darkest places of this
nation."

Historical Significance
The call to extraordinary prayer is essentially the same document that went
out at the end of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that was authored
by William McCollough during the 1740's in Scotland.  At the end of these
centuries, Christian leaders on both sides of the Atlantic capitalized on
the dawning of new centuries to call for extraordinary prayer and sparked
international awakenings that led to widespread revivals, explained Dr.
Bakke.

"Like the two centuries before us, this call to extraordinary prayer comes
on the heels of a church in decline and grievous national and international
spiritual needs," said Dr. Bakke.  "This is a general acknowledgment by
denominational leaders of all stripes that the problems before us are
beyond us - unless God does a brand new thing in our day, we will have lost
our generation."

€LIGHTHOUSES BECOME THE HEART OF CELEBRATE JESUS 2000
>From: "Naomi A. Frizzell" <NFrizzell@compuserve.com>
>Date: Wed, Feb 24, 1999, 10:30 AM

Calling the vision "Celebrate Jesus 2000," Mission America - including such
well-known evangelical organizations as Promise Keepers, March for Jesus,
Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) and Youth With A Mission - has launched
Celebrate Jesus 2000 in 1999 with a special emphasis on strategic
neighborhood "Lighthouses."  These Lighthouses consist of two or more
people who commit to regularly pray and care for their neighbors, and to
lovingly and appropriately share the Gospel with them.  Along with the call
to extraordinary prayer, Lighthouses will enable Christians to stand in the
gap to reach this generation for Christ.

While the primary focus is establishing family Lighthouses in neighborhoods,
a Lighthouse can also be a church, business or other group of Christians.
Mission America is working hard to establish three to six million Lighthouses
to reach out to people in every neighborhood in the nation.

"America is often described as a 'Christian' nation.  But millions of men,
women and children have not heard the Gospel message nor have they been
exposed to Christians who have demonstrated Christ's love and grace," said
Dr. Cedar.  "Lighthouse keepers are breaking out of the
car-to-garage-to-house mold and actually meeting and developing
relationships with their neighbors.  They are literally opening their doors
to demonstrate Christ's love with the family next door."

"We cannot meet the spiritual and physical needs of people literally right
next door if we don't know anything about them" said Rev. Dave Gibson,
executive director of Mission America.  "Mission America 'lighthouse
keepers' will be getting to know their neighbors and living out in word and
deed the love of Jesus Christ - in such simple things as taking a care
package to the family with a new baby or asking for prayer requests and
then diligently praying for them."

As part of the 1999 strategy, Mission America coalition members will focus
on how to use individual resources and outreach programs to achieve the
shared Celebrate Jesus 2000 vision.  Programs such as Pray USA - 40 days of
Prayer and Fasting; Beyond '99; and See you at the Pole are part of the
Celebrate Jesus 2000 Lighthouse strategy.

"Reaching everyone in America is a tremendous challenge," Dr. Cedar
continued.  "But we are united and confident that God is giving us the
people, resources and tools to accomplish His purposes."

Mission America Outgrowth of Worldwide Church Cooperation
Mission America is an outgrowth of the Lausanne Movement and a cooperative
effort with the AD2000 & Beyond Movement and the National Association of
Evangelicals.  Its roots go back to the historic meeting in Lausanne,
Switzerland in July, 1974, when more than 2,4000 participants from a broad
scope of evangelical leadership and 150 nations, met for a 10-day congress
that ignited a passion and renewed commitment to "carry the Christian
Gospel to all corners of the world before the end of this century."

The honorary co-chairs are Dr. Billy Graham of the Billy Graham
Evangelistic Association - honorary chairman of the original Lausanne
conference; Dr. Bill Bright of Campus Crusade for Christ; and Dr. John
Perkins of the Christian Community Development Association.  These diverse
ministry leaders believe that God is using them for a privileged purpose.

€A NATIONWIDE CALL TO THE CHURCH IN AMERICA
>From: "Naomi A. Frizzell" <NFrizzell@compuserve.com>
>Date: Wed, Feb 24, 1999, 10:30 AM

A Call for Extraordinary Prayer, In recognition of:

· our absolute dependence upon God

· the moral and spiritual crises facing our nation

· our great hope for a general awakening to the Lordship of Christ, the
unity of His Body and the Sovereignty of His Kingdom

· the unique opportunity that the dawn of a new millennium presents to us
for offering the gospel of Christ to everyone in our nation

We strongly urge all churches and all Christians of America to unite in
seeking the face of God through prayer and fasting, persistently asking our
Father to send revival to the Church and spiritual awakening to our nation
so that Christ's Great Commission might be fulfilled worldwide in our
generation.

A call for United Action

Therefore, we humbly, yet strongly, request all churches and all Christians
to join together, at a minimum, in the following five rhythms of prayer:

by daily spending time with the Lord in prayer and in the reading of His
Word so as to yield ourselves fully to the control and empowerment of the
Holy Spirit

· by weekly humbling ourselves before God by designating a day or part of a
day (Friday if possible) for united prayer with fasting, as the Lord Leads

· by monthly designating, in individual churches, one service for concerted
prayer emphasizing this call, with special focus on its neighborhood
applications

· by quarterly assembling in multi-church prayer events emphasizing this
call, with special focus on its city-wide applications

· by annually participating in nationwide prayer events emphasizing this
call, with special focus on its national and global applications

Keep this call in your Bible for daily prayer
