*PRAYER STILL MAKING HEADLINES
>From:
Associated Press / Posted December 31, 2000
NAIROBI,
Kenya - Clarke Bynum awoke on a British Airways jumbo jet headed to Nairobi to
the howl of engines and screams for help as the airliner took a nosedive.
Despite being sure he was about to die, he leaped from his business class seat
and rushed into the cockpit to find a tall Kenyan man trying to crash the
plane and the pilots trying in vain to stop him. Bynum, a former Clemson
University basketball player, used his 6-foot-7-inch frame to grab the Kenyan
and wrestle him to the floor. “There
were literally hundreds of people back home praying for us, knowing we were
going on this (church) mission trip (to Uganda). There was this strength
within that made me get up and go. It came from God,” the 39-year-old South
Carolina resident told The Associated Press on Saturday from his hotel in
Nairobi. There were also hundreds of people praying Friday on Flight 2069 from
London to Nairobi - 379 passengers and 19 crew to be precise.
“As
we awoke, the plane within seconds was in a violent drop,” said Bynum, who
was traveling with his friend Gifford Shaw. “I looked at Giff and said, ‘We’re
gonna die.’ He said, ‘You’re right.’”
A
27-year-old Kenyan man, whom police and airline officials have described as
deranged, had rushed into the cockpit, grabbed the controls and was pushing
the Boeing 747-400 into a series of nosedives as he struggled with First
Officer Phil Watson for control of the plane. “We could hear hollering and
banging (in the cockpit),” Bynum said. “I said to Giff, ‘We have to do
something.’ I looked out the window and could see we were going straight
down. So I went to the cockpit.”
Bynum
- who was on the flight only because weather in London caused him to miss a
connection to Entebbe, Uganda - said his mind was whirling with what he might
find: A hijacker with a gun or a knife. Or maybe there was more than one
attacker?
“As
I opened the door, the assailant had the co-pilot, basically wrestling with
the co-pilot,” the 210-pound Bynum said. “The pilot that ran in ahead of
me was a smaller man, about 5-foot-7, and he was trying to get him away.”
During
the struggle for the flight controls, the plane was diving and climbing, only
to dive again, Bynum and other passengers said. Amid passengers’ screams, the intruder bit the captain’s
ear and finger during the two-minute struggle, the airline said.
“Fortunately, I was able to get my arms around his (the Kenyan’s)
neck and shoulders and get him to the ground. By this time, a couple of others
had come in and helped get him out,” said Bynum, who has four children and
lives in Sumter, S.C. Weston then pulled the plane level. Later, the pilots
told Bynum that the plane had plummeted 19,000 feet from its cruising altitude
of 30,000 feet.
Zanne
Augur, a graduate student at the University of South Carolina, saw Bynum and
another man rush to the cockpit. She had never met Bynum before.
“There was this awful lurching, it felt like turbulence, but with
this horrible noise, it was like a roller coaster, when the pit of your
stomach drops out,” said the 32-year-old Augur, who was on her way to climb
Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. The next thing you know bedlam breaks out. All
we could see was the (intruder’s) feet as they came out of the door,” she
said.
“They
got him out and held him down on the ground.” As Bynum held the man, flight
attendants handcuffed him. A breathless Capt.
William
Hagan came on the intercom and informed the passengers that “a madman tried
to take control of the plane and bring it down to commit a suicide,” said
Todd Engstrom, a 41-year-old doctor for Portland, Ore. Bynum said the
assailant did not respond to questions and kept mumbling about having a
companion, even though he was traveling alone.
The plane landed safely two hours later in Nairobi at 10:10 a.m. local
time.
Four
passengers and a female crew member sustained minor injuries, the airline
said. The intruder, described as a suspected mental patient, was taken to
Nairobi Hospital. Kenyan police spokesman Dola Indidis said the man should not
be treated like a criminal. Bynum said he was not physically hurt, but is
still trying to come to grips with his experience. “We’re in fact going to
head on to Entebbe, Uganda later (Saturday),” Bynum said.
“We’re going to go on and we’re going to take it day by day.”

*A PRAYER CALLING FOR A MAN OR WOMAN
WHO
COULD CALL OUR NATION TO PRAYER
>From:
PTM@prayertransformation.com
“Our
Gracious Father in heaven, we come to you as your people with repentant and
burdened hearts. We ask you to forgive us as a nation that we have grieved
you. We have grieved you by our attitudes of bitterness and division. We have
grieved you by looking to man and not to you our Lord. As a nation, we have
strayed far from you. Forgive us. We face in these days, Lord, deep and
festering wounds that need to be healed. We are uniting our hearts as your
people to ask you to raise up a person or persons who would be able to call
our nation to a time of prayer, repentance and a seeking from you of a healing
of our wounds. Lay your Hand and your call on those who could with favor and
grace, speak to the heart of our nation to call us back to you. Give them the
proper forum in which to do this, and work in the hearts of the people in our
nation to be able to hear and accept those words from your heart. We pray for
ourselves as your people. Help us, Lord to model before the world around us,
grace and forgiveness. Lord, we acknowledge our need for you, our sin and need
for repentance. We ask again that you would raise up those who would be
anointed by you to call our nation to prayer, repentance and healing. Do it so
that your Name might be exalted, and we might turn to you that you might bless
us and heal our land according to your word in 2 Chronicles 7:14. We pray in
the healing and gracious Name of Jesus our Savior. Amen.”
“Now,
our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant[s]. For your sake, O
Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. Give ear, O God, and hear;
open your eyes and see the desolation of the city [nation]
that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are
righteous, but because of your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O
Lord, hear and act! For your sake, O my God, do not delay, because your city
[nation] and your people bear your Name.” (Daniel 9: 17-19)
Could
you join in this prayer in your prayer groups, in your personal quiet time,
and even in your churches? Now is the time to seek the favor and healing touch
of the Lord upon our country.

servant in Christ,

*WORDS
OF WISDOM FROM PRESIDENT CLINTON’S PASTOR
>From:
“Crosswalk.com” <newsletters@crosswalk.com>
...Christians
have an important role to play after the divisive presidential election,
President Clinton’s pastor says. Churches “may have a special role and
competence,” said Philip Wogaman, pastor of Foundry United Methodist Church
in Washington, D.C., according to United Methodist News Service (see link #1
below). ...”Our society is
indeed divided at many points, but we do not have to be divisive,” Wogaman
said. “Religion can exacerbate divisions when people invest their ‘side’
in disputes with the aura of ultimate authority. That can be the ultimate
disrespect for others.”
...But
faith also can lead to humility, Wogaman said. “When people realize that God
is greater than any of us, we are less inclined to think we have the last
word. And when we believe that God loves everybody, we are more inclined to
respect everybody and to love everybody as a sister or brother. Thus, a strong
religious faith can either be an engine of disrespect or a seedbed of mutual
regard. A really strong faith is likely to be one or the other.”
...In
a healthy society, faith leads to mutual regard, not disrespect and
divisiveness, Wogaman said. Much depends on “the character of our faith
commitments, our willingness to be patient with one another, and our resolve
to find a higher common ground.”

>From:
Impact Prayer Ministries <Donna@abdarin.radiks.net>
Back
when I was in medical school and doing my residency, we didn’t talk much about prayer. It was sort of seen as a
last resort:
“There’s
nothing else we can do; all that’s left is prayer.” I had a few
conversations with a few families and nurses—mostly late at night in the
Intensive Care Unit, but none of that was ever written down in the
medical record.
But
times have changed, and more research has come out about prayer
over the last 15 years. Nowadays, about one-third of U.S.
medical schools offer
classes in prayer, spirituality and religion and their role in
healing. But given the enormous religious diversity in the United
States, and the complex roles of
parents and physicians, it’s a very tricky topic.
A
great deal of research about the health benefits of prayer and spirituality
has been summarized in books such as Dr. Larry Dossey’s “Healing Words;
Power of Prayer and the Practice of Medicine” (Harper, 1997)
and Dr. Harold Koenig’s “The Healing Power of Faith” (Simon &
Schuster, 1999). It’s clear
that praying is good for the person who prays, and it’s becoming clearer that it may also benefit the person on the
other end, even when that person
is unaware that others are praying for him or her.
Prayer
should not be recommended as a substitute for proven medical therapies,
however, such as antibiotics for pneumonia or insulin for diabetics.
There
are Hospitals in Various cities across the United States
that has a Prayer floor for Patients who request it. Chaplains are on
duty there to pray for you. Ask
your Hospital Administration if it is available in your city.
Suggest the Idea of a Prayer Floor for Patients.

*PASTORS
FACE PRESSURE; NEED PRAYER
>From:
Crosswalk.com <newssummary-join@lists.crosswalk.com>
...Pastors and their families exhausted by the demands of the ministry are
finding encouragement at day-long seminars sponsored by Shepherds Fold
Ministries. The nonprofit group, based in Wichita, Kan., was founded by
retired Church of the Nazarene pastor Gene Williams and his wife, Joyce.
...Being
a pastor is “mentally, spiritually, and emotionally draining,” Williams
told The Wichita Eagle (see link #1 below).
Almost 250 clergy and their wives attended a seminar last week in
Wichita, where they listened to H.B. London of Focus on the Family. “One
woman wrote to say it’s like sitting in the Coliseum and watching my husband
being thrown to the lions, and I can’t do anything about it,” London said.
“We are driven by people who will find ways to get all they can from us and
more.” ...Pastors are tempted to work as many as 70 hours a week and “believe
you’re doing things for God, and your family is dying,” Norwich, Kan.,
pastor James Playter said. “It’s a struggle knowing when to say no to a
member and yes to your family.” ...Williams has talked with scores of
ministers since the nondenominational Shepherds Fold Ministries began in 1998.
He told the Eagle that, after his 47 years in the ministry, he realizes that
the average layman “doesn’t comprehend in the slightest way the pressure
that pastors are under.” He said he could “count on both hands the number
of calls or encouraging words I heard from people.” When he got them, he
said, they “really gave me a lift.” The phone number of the ministry is
(316) 686-0978.

*GREAT COMMISSION OR GREAT COMPLAINING?

Robby Carson, Texas Jesus Video Coordinator
__I
got a phone call today from Dr. Bill Bright who had been busy calling
potential donors and key leaders for the JESUS Video Project of Texas.
___This
project has been incalculably blessed with Dr. Bright’s involvement and
encouragement, but he called me from his hospital bed after going through a
biopsy on his lung. His fibrotic lungs are a discomfort and time is short for
this great servant of Jesus, yet he continues to have JVPTX in his prayers and
physical labors. He is committed!
___Do
you have the desire? Are we complaining about circumstances that can’t even
register on a spiritual Richter scale? What’s keeping you from giving your
Labor, Influence, Finances and Expertise (LIFE) in this project, the greatest
evangelistic outreach in Texas history? ___What
did you do today that will have eternal benefits for someone else? Step up and
get involved now!

*DC PRAYER JOURNEY: INTERESTING FOOTAGE
>From:
NECPrayer@cs.com
God
has brought this nation to a political stand still that is going to
have
more
and more consequences. But the
Lord is giving his church the opportunity to stand in the gap.
We must focus on the spiritual conflict.
That can be won only through an extraordinary prayer vigil.
We
have one month left in this millennial year.
We have been asking churches to participate in a prayer watch.
This is the time to put it into place.
Churches
can take at least one day a week to pray.
The Lord has promised
us
revival.
The struggle to birth revival is at the heart of this crisis.
I
just reviewed the video footage of the Easgate Prayer Journey, when we prayed
for the renewal of our national Covenant.
In Washington, DC we unfortunately saw another covenant being made.
It was called the labyrinth.
Which
is similar to the Halloween magic circle done in Salem? The new
agers
we
doing it on the East side of the capital lawn.
As we took communion
with
our
British friends we sensed the struggle going on over our nation.
The
fact that we are experiencing the battle should reassure us that God is moving
on our behalf. It is a time
similar to Elijah’s time on Mt. Sinai, where the 2 sides battled for the
allegiance of the nation. Elijah
understood that the contest was over 2 covenants.
Israel’s covenant with the Lord and Jezebel’s covenant with Baal.
Let
us pray that God’s chosen man be put in office permanently ASAP, and
the
Satan’s
devices be broken down which are subverting the nation.

*IRM PRAYER SUMMITS: DIVERSITY, YOUNG & OLD, REQUESTS
>From:
International Renewal Ministries <irm@multnomah.edu>
Building
the Church to impact the community
A
Word from Dennis Fuqua - Director of IRM
Amidst
the wonderful diversity that exists in the IRM movement, there are several
values that are held in common. One
of them is the value of being multi-denominational, multi-ethnic, multi-gender
and multi-generational.
In
reading over this particular value, I have mixed emotions.
You want the “truth?” We
have done a fairly good job with the first “multi-“, and there has been
some progress in the other three areas, but they still reflect more a desire
than a reality, more our prayer than our past.
There are some wonderful “reconciliation stories” that could be
told about people from various denominations at summits.
In fact, it is the normal thing that people from quite a wide range of
denominations (like everything from “Alliance to Wesleyan” - because I don’t
know of a denomination that begins with an “X, Y or Z”) gather at Prayer
Summits. But there is still a
long way to go in the area of race, gender and generation.
Thankfully, there has been some progress in all three of these areas,
but it is our desire to still see more! We
want to see more ethnic diversity at summits, we want to see more women
ministered to through the summit movement, and we want to pass this on to the
next generation in a manner they can embrace.
It
might be helpful to clearly state the reason why this is a value to us.
What is behind it is our understanding of the Church.
The real Church of Jesus Christ is in fact, “multi- denominational,
ethnic, gender and generational.” It
is made up of all those who have called upon the name of the Lord for their
salvation. The only valid,
biblical distinction within the Church is one of geography.
If we are going to impact our “whole community,” we need to have
the “whole Church” moving in some harmonious or synchronized manner. And it seems it would be good to pray together, before we try
to move together. Otherwise we
will probably end up stepping on one another rather walking with one another!
So, until there is proper representation of the whole Church of Jesus Christ,
there is still work to be done.
On
another topic, thanks for those of you who have said “yes” to our request
for intercessors. We need you and
we need more people to regularly intercede for us.
If you will commit to regular intercession for IRM, we will send you
weekly intercessory updates. Please
tell Debbie Ulanday of your interest by emailing your response to her at dulanday@multnomah.edu.
Prayer
Summits—
During
December there usually aren’t any summits, but we would greatly cherish your
prayers for the summit schedule over the next couple of months.
January
and February tend to be the busiest in the Prayer Summit season.
While the IRM office staff is not directly involved in the logistics of
all of them, it is still a very busy time.
·
Please pray that
as a staff we can prioritize and keep up with the busy schedule as we seek to
serve the brothers and sisters in these areas.
·
Also keep the
summit areas in your prayers as they look forward to their upcoming summits.
·
Visit the Prayer
Summit calendar: http:www.multnomah.edu
·
Continue praying
for the ongoing work of God in the areas where Prayer
Summits
have already happened this year. (For example...) “I have been dramatically
impacted by this summit event. I have been drawn to the feet of Jesus, had my
inmost being exposed, and had the oil and wine poured into my life. I have met
and become instant friends with pastors of other traditions and have
rediscovered the common ground upon which our faith and struggles in ministry
are based. It has been so refreshing to be able to slow down and wait on God
to speak to us. My heart has been renewed and my life changed.” - North
Central Indiana (Kokomo, IN) Prayer Summit “I enjoyed this time with older
men of God. I received wisdom and great life teachings. The prayer times were
great. Having these men pray for me and bless me was very encouraging. The
fellowship and love and unity were an extreme blessing.”
23 year old youth pastor - North Central Indiana (Kokomo, IN) Prayer
Summit “God has shown me the desperate need in the body of Christ among
leaders to have ‘fathers’ in the faith who will encourage, help and bless
them.
Someone
to go to that is safe, yet strong. I
was encouraged in my
relationship
with my fellow leaders in the city. Taking
a step out of the
routine
for four days was not a waste, but was an encouraging time to quiet
my
spirit and seek my Father while having the privilege of building
personal
relationships
with my co-laborers in Christ. I
was honored to have a part
in
seeing men, healed, forgiven, encouraged and restored back to their
Father
in heaven and with each other.” - Missoula, MT Prayer Summit
“I
am grateful to God for your willingness to come to New England for our
ninth
annual summit. I would say it was definitely one of our best.
I am
especially
rejoicing in the renewed sense of ownership among the pastors of
the
region for this event and for other sub-regional summits. Praise the
Lord!”
- New England Prayer Summit
“God
can’t give us happiness and peace apart from Himself because there is
no
such thing.” - C. S. Lewis
Our
prayer is that during this time of celebrating the gift of Christ, you find
that His joy and peace are with you in abundance! May your Christmas reflect the gift that was given!
Praising
Him, The IRM Office Staff

Roy Mansfield <nygoroy@mindspring.com>
My
name is Roy Mansfield and I am the English Teaching Pastor at Manhattan Bible
Church. We met at the Sat.
meeting with David Bryant and the National Prayer Committee. Thanks for
sending me the NPPN Newsletter.
God
has been doing some unusual things in our church and I thought I would bounce
them off you to get some input and prayer.
During the National Prayer and Fasting conference God impressed upon me
to ask our congregation (about 200 adults in our English speaking
congregation) if God had laid it on the hearts of any of them to embark on a
40 day fast in the following way:
·
To abstain
completely from food, drinking only water and juices (if you are physically
able)
·
To abstain from TV
(If your spouse joins you)
·
To set aside at
least one hour each day dedicated wholly to seeking the Lord
·
To gather together
each Wed. with the congregation to pray together (if possible).
·
A willingness to
focus on:
.Intimacy
with God that results in unprecedented joy in our personal relationships with
Him. (Psa. 16:11)
.Closeness
and affection between the spouses of our church that result in unrestrained
delight in one another. (Prov. 5:18)
.Unconditional
love and unlimited commitment from the parents of our church toward their
children that result in their godly training. (Prov. 22:6)
.A
compassionate heart for God to use each individual in our church to win the
lost, establish those new in their faith and mentor those already established
in their faith. (Mat. 28:18-20)
If
the Lord gave us 10 people willing to make this commitment we would proceed
together. So far the Lord has
given us 13! Jan. 3rd
- Feb. 11th we
will embark together on what we are calling “Forty Days of Holy Desperation”
It is my desire to see the whole congregation participate is whatever
way God leads them. So we are
challenging all of our people to consider if the Lord would desire them to be
involved in some of the following ways:
·
Be a part of a
daily e-mail that will allow you to pray along with others from our
congregation who are experiencing specific struggles, blessings or prayer
burdens
·
Be a part of a 24
hour pray chain that will be conducted around the clock during our 40 Days of
Holy Desperation
·
Come to a
designated room at the church to pray and seek the Lord
·
Meet with a men’s
prayer group one weeknight
·
Meet with a women’s
prayer group one weeknight
·
Fast (from solid
foods) and pray for 40 days
·
Fast from some
specific, food, drink or activity for 40 days to better focus upon seeking God’s
face
·
Fast and Pray for
1, 3 ,5 or 7 days during the 40 days
·
Fast one day a
week during the 40 days
·
Fast one meal a
day or week during the 40 days
·
Gather other
believers at your work place to fast and pray together during lunch
·
Fast from TV for
40 days
·
Fast during lunch
each day
I
have done a couple of 40 day fasts personally, but this is the first time
I
have been involved with so many people. I
would appreciate your prayers
anytime
the Lord brings us to mind and any suggestions you might give,
Thank
you, Roy Mansfield

*HOME PRAYER GROUP ORDERED TO STOP MEETING >From: “Crosswalk.com”
<newsletters@crosswalk.com>
...A couple is suing after being ordered to stop holding prayer meetings at
their home. Robert and Mary Murphy sued the town of New Milford, Conn., in
federal court, saying the town is violating their rights to freedom of
religion and assembly, The Associated Press (see link #5 below) reported. The
Murphys have invited family members and friends to their home weekly on
Sundays since 1995 for fellowship, Bible study, and prayer. The gatherings
typically do not exceed 25 people. ...Neighbors
complained, and the New Milford zoning commission ruled that such regular
meeting that use the back yard as a parking lot violated regulations. A zoning
commission member said the town is not picking on the Murphys because they
host a religious group. “It could be a model plane club, stamp collectors,
seekers of Elvis,” George Doring told the AP.
...Prohibiting a family from using its own home for prayer is “a
direct assault on our client’s constitutional rights,” said the Murphys’
lawyer, Vincent McCarthy of the American Center for Law and Justice (see: http://www.aclj.org/

*CENTRAL FLORIDA PRAYER WALL: MODEL FOR YOUR CITY?
>From:
praycf@juno.com
Prayer
Points:
Vision
Orlando is mailing the Jesus film to 545,000 homes in Central Florida (all of
Orange, all of Seminole and some of Osceola Counties) December 11th
through 16th. Please pray fervently for this distribution.
·
Pray that God
would prepare the hearts of the unsaved in the three counties and for a great
harvest.
·
Pray for the
remaining details of the distribution and that the videos would get into the
hands of those whose hearts have been prepared.
·
Pray that nominal
Christians would be moved to a deeper commitment to Christ after viewing the
video.
·
Pray for the
preparations for the telephone follow-up campaign and the personal visits
starting in January.
·
Pray that The Lord
of the Harvest would send forth laborers to bring in the harvest. Note: if
your church would like to volunteer to help with the follow-up please call Roy
with Vision Orlando at 407-826-2605. .
Pray blessings on one or more churches or ministries on the same week as
yours.
Just
before the September 2000 Pray Central Florida meeting the Lord asked me
(George Kern) to draw some vertical lines on the white board in our meeting
room. Then He said draw some horizontal lines. He asked me what I saw. I said
it looked like part of a calendar. He said to finish drawing the calendar (one
month). He asked me again what I saw. This time it looked like a wall so I
said that. The Lord said He wants to raise up a prayer wall around Central
Florida. Please note that when I say God spoke to me I don’t mean an audible
voice but I heard the specific words in my heart and mind as clear as if He
had spoken them out loud. I believe the calendar means a monthly prayer
schedule. I have since shared this at another prayer meeting and the leader
had a sense that the churches in Central Florida were the towers on the wall.
On November 27th I sensed that it was time to begin and that our
first prayer focus was to be the follow up after the Jesus Video distribution
December 11th through 16th. This focus will continue for
six months because the follow up efforts will continue for the first few
months of 2001 and studies indicate that people will watch the video for many
months after the distribution. We want to under gird the telephone and
personal visit follow-ups to bring as much of the harvest into the
store-houses as possible.
Normally
when one thinks of a wall it is for protection. There is an element of
protection in this wall but with it’s evangelism focus, it is also a siege
wall. We (the Church) are laying siege to the kingdom of darkness which holds
so many captive in this city “and the gates of hell shall not prevail
against it” (Matt. 16:18). Through prayer we are participating with the
Father in breaking down spiritual walls that are keeping people from Christ so
Jesus can set them free. Ezekiel 4:1-3 and Jeremiah 52:4 talk about a siege
wall and Nehemiah chapters 1 through 6 chronicle the rebuilding of the wall
around Jerusalem.
To
take your place on the wall please contact me with your name, the name of your
church or ministry (if you are not in a position to represent your
organization, please get permission first), the day your group will pray and
your contact information, including E-mail if possible. You don’t need to
commit to any number of people or hours your group will cover, just make a
good effort to encourage your people to pray on that day. You may sign up for
more than one day a month if you wish but please not more than one day a week.
I will send you a few specific prayer points when you sign up and a calendar
showing when each group is praying. You are also asked to pray for a few of
the other churches or ministries who are praying on your week. We will start
December 11th, the first day of the distribution, so please respond
as soon as you can. This is only a six month commitment and can take as little
as 10 minutes one day a month, though you may want to take longer to more
thoroughly cover the prayer points. The real power in this comes from the
united prayer of the church in Central Florida focused on the same objective,
so take your place on the wall!
The
Central Florida Prayer Wall is coordinated by Pray Central Florida.

*PRAYING FOR PEOPLE OF INFLUENCE: BOB DYLAN
>From:
“Assist1” <assistcomm@cs.com>
>By
Dan Wooding
During
the year, I had the unusual opportunity to appear on the A&E
comprehensive
retrospective of the cultural idol, Bob Dylan. The special
two-hour
BIOGRAPHY: BOB DYLAN, kicked off “Rock Legends” week on A&E. It
was
the
story of a singer/songwriter who will forever be linked to the 1960s.
It
was
the decade in which he was most prolific, yet it was only one segment
of
his
complex, dramatic life.
The
appearance followed an interview I did with Bob Dylan’s former pastor, Kenn
Gulliksen, who asked Christians around the world to pray for Bob Dylan.
He
also said that Dylan has never renounced his faith in Jesus Christ and that
“God is not through with him yet.”
Gulliksen,
in a rare interview said, “I would ask people to really
intercede
for
Bob, to pray with out ceasing that God will access his heart so that he will
be open to responding again to the truth.
A lot of people try and get to him, so it’s not about getting to him,
it’s about the Holy Spirit preparing his heart.
So that he again reaches out to get to God.”
Gulliksen
added, “Bob still is a believer by profession.
He has not
renounced
the Lord and we have every faith, hope and confidence, that God
is
not
through with him yet.”
He
said that he hasn’t heard from Dylan for some time now. “I am just waiting on the Lord for the right time to
initiate contact. We pray a lot
for him,” said Gulliksen who now pastors Sojourners Church West L.A., a
Calvary Chapel affiliate.
I
was interviewed on the A@E documentary about Dylan’s
time as a Christian and what it meant to be “saved” and also what kind of
worship music Dylan would have sung with the congregation during his period at
the Southern California church.

may use this story with proper attribution.

--->NPPNote:
The Lord has given me a similar burden for Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys. I’ve
had the opportunity to tell him I (and many others) am praying praying for
him. Shared my faith in Christ many years ago (I have to confess - I’ve been
in love with BB music since early 60s) with Alan Jardine.
Has
the Lord places a person of influence in your heart and onto your daily prayer
list? Is your PPG praying for an impact person in your community or city? Is
it possible the Lord appeared to Saul (in Acts) as a response to the early
church’s unrelenting prayers for his salvation (and their safety)?
Is
it possible our national and international leaders have a 1 Timothy 2:1-4
destiny in Christ that has not been prayed out by the church?

*LUNCHTIME PRAYER WALKERS SEEK PEACE IN THE CITY
>From:
charisma@strang.com
Christians
in Charlotte, N.C., who are giving their lunch hours to prayer for the city,
have won the approval of the local newspaper.
Every
Monday more than 20 churches in the area open their doors at noon for a
60-minute prayer session. Each Wednesday members of the Metrolina Prayer
Network (MPN) gather to walk the streets and pray, reported “The Charlotte
Observer.”
The
“Pray Now!” effort is headed by MPN leader Bob Lowman Jr., a former local
pastor who told the newspaper the weekly prayer walks made it possible for
people to “pray on site, with insight.” A recent midweek gathering took
the small group past government offices, the police station, banks and
offices, and the bus transfer station. Participants prayed for peace and
justice.
Although
the “ardently evangelical” group’s goal is to win the world for Christ,
their efforts “did not seem like a holy war,” reported the “Observer.’”
“As [they] wandered up East Trade and down East Sixth, praying that you and
I might be happy and safe, it seemed more like a simple mission of mercy.”

...
Joshua
came to us about 8 months ago. He was at the worst time of his life.
He
had lost his job, apartment, and his ability to stay in college. He felt like
everyone had deserted him. He had
previously made some very unwise choices in his life and felt the sting of
those decisions. About two years
ago, he had been blessed in some services we held in his home church.
At that time, he had asked to be on our ministry team.
I told him that I would be glad to consider it when he was out of
school. Well, two years is a long time to a teenager.
He had not grown closer to God, but was drifting away.
It was there Josh came to me and asked, “Can I be on your team?”
He told me in the parking lot all that he had done.
He said he wanted no secrets. He
told me how he felt about certain people and things.
He then looked at me with hurting eyes and wanted to see if he would be
rejected again. The only thought
I had was, “What would Jesus do?” Well
I knew, so I reached out my arms, gave him a hug and said “Yes”.
He ran to the altar that night. He
rededicated his life and asked Jesus if he could start all over.
He then learned what it meant to be JUSTIFIED.
He learned to be treated, just as if he had never sinned.
For eight months, he acted like my adopted son.
For eight months, he gave his all to Jesus. For eight months, he never showed any bitterness, depression,
or anger from the past. After
about six months, during one of the morning services, I looked at him and
said, “Son I want you to know that I am proud of you.”
He fell down on his face and sobbed and sobbed and sobbed.
I had never seen a man cry so hard in my whole life.
He knew he was home. Then
it happened, Josh got a cold on Thursday; so we thought.
We were running two separate meetings, one at the Marriott Hotel and
one at the church. Some of us
thought Josh was at the Hotel, others thought he was at the church. He went to bed Saturday night and died Sunday afternoon.
What a shock it was. He
was only 22 years old.
Some
young men came up to me a few days later.
They said they had not liked me, because they felt I had taken Josh
away from them. These were
friends Josh had made when he was in his hurt and pain, before he came back to
the Lord. He had tried to talk to
them about what Jesus was doing in his life, but they didn’t want to hear
it. Now their friend was gone.
On the night of the memorial service, Josh’s friends filled the
Kirkland Assembly of God Church. The service started at 7:00pm.
From the very beginning you knew Jesus was up to something.
So many had come that did not know Jesus.
So many came to share their grief.
So many came to celebrate what the Lord had done.
The altars were opened and many came to share what Josh meant to them.
Those who were not saved shared with those who were.
Suddenly, a holiness seldom felt, hit the congregation, along with a
unity, love, and peace that passes all understanding.
A young man fell to his knees and sobbed, just as Josh had done a few
months prior. He sobbed and
sobbed and sobbed as he gave his heart back to Jesus.
Then later, another and another and another came.
This scene was repeated until 1:30am.
Young men and women were coming home to Jesus!
Isn’t
this what we talk about? Haven’t
we heard conversations about, “I wonder what would happen, if we gave an
altar call at a funeral?” I
want to tell you it was miraculous. By
the way, it hasn’t stopped. The
same kids came back that Sunday with their friends, and the next Sunday, and
the next also. One Sunday, they
filled up three rows with friends who have not been in church. Then they
brought them to the altar where they were changed.
Yes, Josh went home to heaven. Yes, he was young. Yes, it seemed he had
his whole life ahead of him. But now we can see, “What the enemy meant for
bad, the Lord has used for good.” Josh had come feeling rejected, but he
found acceptance. Josh had come feeling no love, but he found love.
Josh came feeling lost and alone, but he found a home. That is the
heart of ... ministry. We are
looking for the wounded, bruised, and broken. We are looking of the outcast
and unlovable. Because we love showing them the love they were created for,
they find Jesus. Remember this holiday season to love on your family. Remember
to say a prayer for their soul. Remember you never know how long you will have
them. Remember to try and treat them, as you want Jesus to treat you. Treat
them with the same love, joy, and forgiveness you want the Lord to treat you
with.
Have
a very Merry Christmas, Jerry Gaffney & Family
