* SPECIAL OFFER / SPECIAL
PLEA
With the privilege of coordinating the 21 National
Leadership Forum Learning Tracks and convening the City Impact Roundtable (meets
just before and near the conclusion of the NLF) comes an inside perspective. It
has allowed me to see, almost on a daily basis, just how strategic the NLF and
CIR can be for our cities and ministries.
While most conferences draw participants from one role category (Pastors, for
example) or with one purpose (leadership training or a new church growth
program) or from one region or denomination, the National Leadership Forum will
be comprehensive in scope.
€A unique mix of Pastors, Denominational Workers, MInistry Leaders
Prayer Mobilizers, Church Planting Strategists, Community Activists
€From every region across the United States (plus Canada)
€Interacting . .
The NLF is designed for maximum interaction. Christian leaders finally taking
the time to look at and listen to one another; discussing the newest trends,
sharing disappointments, strategizing next steps of collaborative action.
€Learning Tracks incorporate interactive methods
€City Impact Roundtable - Teams from dozens of cities
(Sunday afternoon at 3:30 + Tuesday afternoon at 3:30)
€Town Hall Meeting: Interacting on the State of the Gospel in the City
The special offer (below) makes this the most affordable
New York City conference I've seen. The special plea is simply this -
The long-term impact of the NLF is limited, not by the
caliber of the speakers and presenters but by the grassroots participation of
faithful servants like you. Without YOU, the table talk and the hallway
connections are lessened. Reporting on the new work and ways of Almighty God is
incomplete. Action Plans are missing needed insights.
My plea?
That you would tell the Lord you are ready and willing if enabled.
Enabled with faith to trust Him for the lacking funds by asking the Church in
your city for help.
The plea?
That you would make another effort to be at the NLF in NYC this October.
I owe it to the Church to be there - How about you?

--->NPPNote: What a wonderful surprise the CIRs have
been, beginning this past February in Southern California, Albany, St. Louis,
Chicago, Austin, Cedar Rapids, Atlanta - A grassroots experience of talking,
praying and strategizing on how the whole Church can work together to take the
whole Gospel to the whole City and beyond! Two more opportunities are around the
corner - Near or far, join us if you can.
Peer-to-Peer Learning for Community Transformation
On September 1-3, 2003 in Talladega, AL at the Shocco Springs Baptist Conference
Center, servant leader teams from far and near will gather for a city-to-city
sharing time. This lateral enrichment effort sponsored by IRM is for those
interested in seeing prayer-driven, community transformation take place in
southeastern cities.
Cities that have previously experienced a Prayer Summit will have opportunities
to connect with other cities that have been through a summit and share insights
concerning the translation of those experiences into a city-impact process.
This ground-breaking event will include spontaneous breakout times along with
regularly scheduled presentations—all for the purpose of helping participants
and leaders learn from one another. You'll have plenty of opportunities to learn
what is happening in SE USA cities as a result of prayer and pastoral
relationships. And we've specifically designed the schedule in a way which
accommodates the requests of pastors to be back home by Wednesday evening.
I encourage you to consider bringing your entire servant-leader team to the
gathering if possible. The gathering will be as relevant for the seasoned
servant-leader teams as for those who are still in the process of launching
their movement. The goal is to gather city-servant-leader teams from various
cities and link them one to another.
A registration form is included at the bottom of this newsletter. Since this is
not a secured form, we ask that you do not include credit card information. If
you plan on using a credit card for payment, please call the Alive Ministries
office at (704) 938-9111.
Whether you have a suggestion for additional issues that need addressing or
would like to present a city-report, your contributions are always welcome. Time
will be given for your input during general sessions and break out sessions.
The cost for the entire event—four meals and two nights, double occupancy—is
$149.00. Single occupancy is also available for an additional $20 per person. We
have reserved limited space, so your immediate response is requested. You may
print and make copies of the registration form or simply forward this email to
others who may be interested in participating.
I hope to see you in Shocco Springs for our fall city prayer leadership
gathering.
Blessings, P. Douglas Small

The church will always face diversity. God’s people differ in
culture, language, economic situations, needs, desires, and even styles of
worship. This theme shows how to blend all these differences into one joyful
family of God. In his interview, “Building a Church of Diversity,” Charles Lyons
tells how his church grew from a handful of Appalachian whites to a cosmopolitan
congregation of 40-plus nationalities. Other articles in this theme welcome
people of different family structures, economic conditions, ages, races,
educations, and religious backgrounds.

>From: "Naomi A. Frizzell" <nfrizzell@bellsouth.net>
The statistics are sobering . . .
- Nearly 600 million people access the Internet worldwide - from nearly every
language, religion and culture group.
- Web sites have less than 10 seconds to capture the attention of visitors
before they click away.
- Many on the Internet are not and never have been involved in an evangelical
church.
With those statistics in mind, the question is asked, what are people searching
for? The answer is that many are looking for a spiritual connection and answers
to tough life issues.
In some cases, these same people would never enter a church or pick up a
Christian book, but feel safe exploring answers to questions of faith on the
Internet. In doing so, they inevitably come in contact with Christians online,
some who are competently sharing their faith but most not equipped to use the
dynamics of the Internet for evangelism. While Christian ministries have
developed web sites that address spiritual questions, until now no comprehensive
online training was available for Christians who wanted to learn how to
effectively share their faith online.
COLLABORATIVE EFFORT
The Internet Evangelism Coalition's (IEC) new Online Evangelism Training Program
is now available at
www.webevangelism.org/otoe. Dr. Sterling Huston, chair of the IEC,
emphasizes "The training is another example of collaboration among Christian
ministries to provide a strategic Internet evangelism resource for the Body of
Christ." Partner organizations include Gospel Communications, Billy Graham
Evangelistic Association, Christianity Today International, Christian
Broadcasting Network, Crown Financial and others.
Motivating and equipping Christians to share their faith in an online
environment - through email, chat rooms and personal web sites - is the focus of
the new training. The curriculum was designed by the IEC committee on training,
chaired by Dr. Dick Wynn, and written by Dr. C. Thomas Wright, who formerly
coordinated Internet Evangelism for the Southern Baptist Convention's North
American Mission Board and has continued to serve the IEC on a freelance basis.
Dr. Wright says the training is biblically based and biblically motivated.
"According to Luke 19:10 the Son of Man, (Jesus) came to seek and to save that
which is lost. There is a huge and growing community of pagans, seekers and
believers on the Internet. Many of those believers want to share their faith
effectively," he adds. The training offers visitors the opportunity to
participate in seven, self-paced learning sessions in two categories:
Preparation for Online Evangelism (The Need for Online Evangelism, An overview
of the Internet Context and Preparing to Share Jesus Online); and Presenting the
Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Online Context (Online Options for Sharing Jesus
and Initial Nurturing of Online Converts). (For more information, please go to
http://www.gospelcom.net/bgc/iec/otoe/outline.php.)
Simply put, Dr. Wright believes the best result for the curriculum would be,
"For every online believer to more effectively and intentionally reduce the
population of Hell."
IEC Background
The Internet Evangelism Coalition was born out of a consultation sponsored by
the Billy Graham Center (BGC) of Wheaton College in April 1997. The consultation
voted to establish a committee to facilitate collaboration on Internet
initiatives.
Following an April 1999 IEC conference, a permanent organization was put in
place to support the ongoing work of the Coalition. Recognizing that it would
take several years for the organization to become self-sustaining, the Committee
asked the BGC to temporarily set up and manage an office to begin the process,
which it does today.
IEC GOALS
The Internet Evangelism Coalition has two major goals:
1. To promote Internet Evangelism: Inspiring strategic thinking and resource
development to empower the Church for Internet Evangelism; and
2. Facilitate collaboration: Encouraging collaborative efforts and connecting
partners and resources for Internet Evangelism.
OTHER IEC PROJECTS
In addition to providing Online Evangelism Training, IEC partners are also
involved in other collaborative projects including: Evangelism Resources -
www.evangelismtoolbox.com;
Resources for Growing Christians -
www.growinginchrist.com;
and a Seeker Site -
www.nowtrygod.com.
The IEC will hold its next major meeting September 9-10, 2003 in Chicago. For
more information go to

In little over a month the nation will be remembering September 11th. The
Mission America Coalition is encouraging churches in America to hold special
outreach services with the theme: "Honor Our Heroes" (HOH). A major media
awareness campaign is underway to engage both Christian and secular media that
would result in many people attending these HOH services on September 11th.
Christians are being asked to fax, email or take a copy of a News Release to
their local radio, TV or newspaper. To get a copy to send to your local media go
to:
http://www.honorourheroes.com. An HOH service is meant to honor those
who serve our community and nation and most of all to honor our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ!
Free Resources are available at
http://www.honorourheroes.com. These include newsletter articles, a
sample service, bulletin inserts, a commitment card, sample sermons and power
point slides. In addition, several members of Mission America are partnering to
provide a variety of other resources and services including an inexpensive video
for use in the service, direct mail invitations, themed bulletin shells,
banners, evangelistic booklets, Bibles with specialized covers, children's
Sunday School materials, promotional PSA's and follow-up resources. Please pray
for this effort and visit the web site for additional information.
It's not too late to prepare the Church in your city to hold a September 11
commemoration using the Honor Our Heroes theme. Free and partner
resources have been prepared and are available online at
www.honorourheroes.com.
Over six thousand churches are making preparations for a community outreach
service.
The news media will be reminding people throughout our nation about the events
of that day. Only the church has the message of healing and hope that comes from
the heart of God through his son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Join us at 11:00
Eastern time on August 21 as we discuss ideas for making this anniversary count
for the eternal kingdom.

LOVING THE CHURCH – BLESSING THE NATIONS
Pursuing the Role of Local Churches in Global Mission
George Miley, Gabriel Publishing, 2003, 220 pp.
Miley, long time missionary with OM, is the founder of Antioch Network, an
expanding fellowship of local churches focusing strategically on extending
God’s kingdom among unreached peoples (www.antiochnetwork.org). This book
is Antioch Network’s manifesto. (21-22) Miley proposes a model of local
church missions in which churches send their own teams to plant churches
among unreached peoples. He calls for “an international movement, focused
on the completion of world evangelization, rooted in and coming forth from
local churches.” (220)
The book develops a strong biblical rationale for this fresh model,
including the qualities and development of apostolic leaders and structures.
One chapter outlines how a church would go about it. Of course, for most
middle-class, mono-cultural congregations it is a daunting proposition and
ongoing coaching and guidance are needed.
The author’s humility, high esteem for the church, and positive attitude
toward mission organizations come through clearly. The biggest dilemma, as
with any missions book, is how it may come to penetrate the heads and hearts
of pastors and key influencers in churches. But wouldn’t it be exciting to
see a movement of local churches taking seriously the mandate to reach the
nations!
The central questions become “What does it mean to complete God’s purpose
among all nations?’ What strategic opportunities remain?’ and ‘In which
one(s) is God calling our church to be his channel of blessing?’” (27).....

We have added a third audio teaching from the "Generations" series. These
teachings have been incredibly popular since we have began releasing them over
the last weeks. The first teaching "The Call" is being graciously transcribed
into text and considered for publishing in a magazine next month (Thank you

This third teaching explores some key traits a Christian lifestyle in Christ is
made of. So far the feedback on this teaching surpasses the other two. We hope
