Highlights of our recent trip to Zambia

Carol assists Jennie in the Mukinge Hill Academy
School day from 7:45am to 13 hours (1:00pm)
Accompanied on their daily walk by several children
Boys usually bring them beautiful hand-picked bouquets of flowers

Phil had several ministry opportunities:
Secondary School - Sermon: “Mary’s Treasure” (Luke 1) (500 girls)
Men’s Group - Discussed “Transformations” video (12 men)
Boma Village Church - Sermon: “Devoted To Prayer” (40 in congregation)
Mission Chapel -Sermon: “Power of United Prayer” (50)
Secondary School Teachers’ Devotions (5 days)
    Missionary Prayer Meeting - Facilitate
    Missionary Seminar: “Transforming Prayer” (60)
Kivuku Village Church - Sermon: “Devoted To Prayer” (150)
Mission Chapel - Sermon: Church That Forgot Who To Love (35)
    Leader’s Seminar: 21st Century Churches (35)
    Boma Leadership Seminar (35)
Mukinge Church - Sermon: Palm Sunday Prayer (300)

We saw a daily stream of visitors at Jennie & JJ’s home, ranging from small children to adults. It is Zambian tradition to greet and take time for people. Most impressive were some of JJ’s secondary school girls who asked serious questions about the Bible and life-related issues (usually that meant questions about sex - so important to discuss in an AIDS torn nation).

The more than expected days (and nights) without electricity and/or water were certainly not a “high” light - BUT - Seeing Jennie and JJ not only survive but thrive in that difficult environment was a blessing. Somehow they combined their ideas and energies to always serve us delicious meals and greet their unannounced visitors with a sweet attitude. They were examples to both the Zambians and the western missionaries (can you tell we are proud of them?)... Plus, we heard our son-in-law deliver a powerful sermon from the Word of God!

Another highlight was coming home to a large stack of mail that contained many envelopes containing checks to support our ministry ... And just yesterday Carol bumped into a woman who said her Moms In Touch group prayed for us while we were in Africa; one of many groups and friends who prayed us there and back safely (and with zero-sick-days!). Thanks to you, God used us to encourage and equip many Christians and Church leaders.

It is impossible for us to be in a third world country with such warm hearted people, hungry to learn more about God in order to share the Gospel with their neighbors and nation, having few resources - And not tell our friend how they can help. Please look over the enclosed sheet to see how you can help the ministry friends we have made in Zambia.

“Why do you need money?”

We are truly grateful for those who support us with their financial gifts. Phil has two part-time consulting-type roles that pay him on a regular basis, he sometimes receives honoraria when speaking, and Carol is paid whenever she substitutes at a preschool - But - The combined total falls far short of what we were making as a full-time Pastor and Preschool Director.
Your gifts enable us to do the ministry no one pays us for - like going to Zambia, NIgeria, and ministries unable to pay our way.
