Update 06/28/2002

We thank God for you...

And take comfort in knowing many of you are praying for us!

Here’ some of the latest --

€ Jennie & JJ have safely arrived in Zambia and, after a week of orientation in Lusaka (the nation’s capitol), should be on their way to Mukinge where they will serve for the next eleven months. *Pray, please, thanking the Lord for safe travel and entry to Zambia plus asking for good health and smooth adjustments to their new living and teaching circumstances.

€Jorie and Tim are in Chicago for a wedding this weekend.  We fly back with them (in shifts) to spend the next two weeks at their home in California.   *Pray for a balance of vacation and work (Phil has several ministry opportunities while in CA).

€Carol has completed her last school year as director and is training the new director throughout the summer months. As of Labor Day, she becomes an official partner with Phil in Prayer INC.    *Pray for Carol’s own transition from a 20 year shepherding ministry with children to, initially, an administrative focus with our ministry.

€ Phil has been invited to serve on several strategic planning teams recently and has new ministry opportunities.    *Pray for humility and purity, and, when he is the lead, grace to facilitate and wisdom to guide the process:
-Consulting with several churches of influence on how to develop strategic prayer ministries
-Promoting the 9/11 Remembrance Anniversary Church Services (www.911remembrance.com)
-Preaching at Hillcrest Church, Country Club Hills, IL: July 21 & 28
-Leading a prayerwalk in Chicago for a volunteer mission team from Springfield, August 1
-Attending a city/suburban partnership meeting in Chicago, August 3
-Teaching at Black Church Leadership Week, Ridgecrest, NC, August 5 - 9
-Preaching at Calvary Memorial Church, Oak Park, IL: August 11
-One Great City: August 12, Chicago (facilitating a a consultation of key Chicagoland ministry leaders) (pray for diversity!)
-Leading a Prayer Conference at the Illinois Baptist Leadership Summit, August 19 & 20, Springfield, IL
-Mission America Annual Meeting 2003 Planning Team: Evangelism in the New Urban Context  (a major coalition event in New York City expected to draw 500+ from over 100 cities) (planning team meets in NYC, August 21)
-Citywide Prayer Leaders Consultation: August 25-27, New York City, Planning Team (Prayer Leaders from across the country)
-Invited back to facilitate prayer at the Zion, IL Mayor’s Labor Day Prayer Breakfast (several hundred attend and pray!)
-Mission America Annual Meeting: October 23-25, Dallas, Planning Team Leader (this coalition represents 80 denominations, 75 ministry networks and 300+ national ministry organizations)
-City Impact Roundtable: October 23-25, Dallas, Convener & Planning Team Leader (100 city leaders from coast to coast)
-Plus ... the ongoing opportunities to serve with Elgin House of Prayer, New Work Development Team (church planting), and as a National Facilitator of the Cities and Communities Team of Mission America

€ Our financial update: The Lord has graciously and abundantly supplied over this first year of raising our own support. The combination of several large grants and gifts as we began ($5,000; $19,000; and $20,000) along with an ongoing consulting contract, honoraria, and the monthly support of a few ministry friends has sustained us over the past twelve months.       *Pray blessings to those who have given so faithfully to us -   *Pray that God will prompt others to give large grants again this year -    *Pray for several churches that will begin to support us on a monthly basis -    *Pray for the organization that administrates our funds; their financial difficulties have made our current funds temporarily inaccessible to us (we may have to use personal savings to cover the next few paychecks) -       *Pray for new supporters to join us quickly...

Thanks for caring and for praying!

Let us know how we can pray for you,

Phil & Carol
