Tsunami of Compassion Still
Needed
The South East tsunami crisis, with a newly reported death toll of 225,000, is
undoubtedly one of world's worst natural catastrophes in history. Thousands of
children have been orphaned and many thousands displaced. Fortunately, A tsunami
of compassionate outpouring has come from all quarters in response to this
crisis. But as tragic as this event has been, there is another tsunami that hits
with equally destructive force each and every month - the global AIDS pandemic.
Each month another 250,000 die of AIDS and AIDS related causes, with no end in
sight. Each month another 200,000 children are left orphaned due to AIDS. Each
month, nations are devastated by the lose of their most productive populace,
And, each month, the American Church still, for the most part, turns a deaf ear
to the silent cries coming from Africa, and other regions battling this
pandemic.
It is amazing that we can respond with such a great outpouring to the needs of
so many due to a catalytic event, but allow our non-response to continue
elsewhere where equal devastation is taking place. A tsunami of compassion is
still needed to deal with the global AIDS pandemic, the worst humanitarian
crisis in history. The Church, as we have done in South Asia, needs to rise to
the occasion, and turn the tide against AIDS, through prayer, action, advocacy,
and most importantly our message of Hope, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Global AIDS Prayer Partnership, a growing coalition of the concerned, was
launched to mobilize prayer, action and advocacy to end AIDS. We believe that
united prayer is needed, especially with respect to AIDS, since this battle is
as much a spiritual battle as it as development issue. And, this month we are
pleased to announce a new monthly, issues related, Prayer Bulletin that is
available for prayer groups to download free, copy and circulate.
Each month, either through the GAPP monthly ezine, GAPP Points, or by visiting
the www.PraytoEndAIDS.com website, you can download this new resource. The
Prayer Bulletin is an educational tool to create awareness around the issues of
AIDS. It also includes potent prayer bullets to take aim at bringing down this
global enemy. This new resource is made available in a duplicatable format
(PDF), for easy copying.
Through our prayer and action we can win this war against humanity and rescue
the souls of our brothers and sisters in Africa and elsewhere who monthly face a
tsunami as destructive as that which hit South Asia on December 26th. At the
same time, let's keep responding with the compassion of Christ to all those who
are in need. For more information, please visit us online at
