PRAYER STRATEGY MEETING REPORT
February 20, 2004
Friends and Colleagues:
Here is a summary of an extremely exciting meeting we had last Friday regarding the feasibility of a city-wide cooperative prayer strategy.
Attendees: A small group, but representing approximately ten different ministries
and churches. At least eight other ministries expressed interest, but unable to attend.
Consensus: All of us pray, we pray for our city, most of us have prayer time with our ministry
teams, but almost none of us have any type of strategic prayer targeting the city and its
various needs. Even though there certainly are already some prayer groups and
strategies existing, there does not seem to be any coordinated effort to join ranks for greater effectiveness. Based on God’s call for spiritual unity, and based on the
overwhelming depth and intensity of spiritual oppression and darkness over this city, there is a critical need for such a ministry if we are to see God move in extraordinary ways in this area.
Possible levels of strategy: It has been over four years since any serious prayer focus has
been initiated on a large scale. Subsequent activities have been more "event" centered
rather than "movement" centered. Events such as crusades and rallies have progressively
lost effectiveness and appeal to the point that few people support them. Other attempts have been started, but never followed through with. Any type of prayer movement we might try needs to focus on something other than events and more meetings. Most people have so much going on that they can’t keep up with their own ministry ideas.
However, there can still be a comprehensive prayer strategy that will have eventual massive impact on the city, IF we will commit ourselves to it. We see it operating on perhaps five levels or layers that could operate independently of each other but also in concert with each other. Together they would provide a way of regularly saturating every part of the city with ongoing prayer.
1. Personal prayer and small group gatherings concentrating on the
immediate area where that person or group lives/meets. Hundreds, perhaps
thousands of "houses of prayer" scattered across the metro area. Each individual or group would take personal responsibility for praying for that specific
neighborhood.
2. Ministries, churches, Christian training institutions, etc. would take
responsibility for an area or region of the city where their buildings or
facilities are located, and would encourage their respective members or
students to be actively involved in praying in that region on a regular basis.
3. Media strategy using the internet to provide regular prayer requests and
brief Bible study ideas, both of which could be used for personal direction as
well as training for prayer groups no matter the size.
In addition, develop a comprehensive website to be accessed by believers world
wide, by which hundreds of thousands of intercessors could be engaged with us
in praying for Kiev. This would include updated prayer requests, information
regarding various participating ministries, and a large variety of virtual prayer
walks based on theme, territory, people groups, and so forth.

Also, share our vision and strategy with other international prayer strategies
such as Global Harvest, PrayWORLD, Lighthouse Movement, National
Pastors’ Prayer Network, and others, asking them to join us in praying for our
city, oblast, and nation. This in itself would give exposure of our prayer
strategy to perhaps millions of believers worldwide. That, in turn, could
mobilize prayer and Bible study groups, visiting prayer walking teams,
and even involve multitudes in virtual prayer walks via our proposed website.
4. Occasional major events that bring all God’s people together ---- maybe
one or two a year ---- things like concerts of prayer, massive prayer walks,
praise gatherings, training conferences, international prayer leadership
conferences, etc. Done very rarely, but well planned and at strategic times.
5. Administrative leadership structure that could perhaps put a key
leadership person in each of the major regions of Kiev ---- such as Podil,
Pechersky, Obolon, etc. This person would serve as coordinator and
liaison with other groups and would provide assistance within that region
to individuals, groups, ministries, churches, and institutions, and would
help motivate the believers in that region to target their area and saturate
it with prayer. They could also possibly serve as part of a coordinating
committee to give direction and encouragement along with a possible key
individual who might serve as general "director" or some such title.
The Next Step: We unanimously agreed that . . . .
1. We believe God is clearly in this, and that He is directing us to develop
some form of cooperative prayer network. Our city is at stake.
2. We need to establish a central driving vision for why we feel the
urgency to do this in the first place.
3. We need to develop some concrete ideas or specific steps for
initiating the project.
4. We need to enlarge our group to encompass as much participation as possible
both in the English and Russian sectors of ministry.
5. We need to have a quick follow up gathering in order to not allow this
vision to die down. Therefore, . . . .
Next Meeting: Thursday, April 1, 2004, 3:00 pm, location to be announced.
