We've all said, "Its about relationships!"
Connecting is another word for relationship ... which creates the potential of
partnership and worship. on behalf of our Lord and Savior.
I am very encouraged (and excited) about the connections going on right now that
will lead to Regional City Impact Roundtable gatherings in cities across North
America. The CIRs have the potential of bringing together - around the same
table - for Kingdom sized discussion and prayer, Pastors, Ministry Leaders,
Prayer Networkers, and Marketplace Missionaries.
What a prelude to the City Impact Roundtable at the National Leadership Forum in
New York City, October 5-8, 2003 (Stop right now / Find your calendar / Book
those dates!). Conveners will be brining teams of 10 from their city reaching
movement, their denomination, their ministry network.
Hope a CIR comes to your region sometime this spring or summer.
Praying you hear the call to NYC in 2003 - and issue an invitation to
Christ-awakened leaders across your city or community.
Glad to be connected,
Phil

Strategies for City Reachers: Public Schools
To reach maximum penetration in your community, is part of your strategy
targeting public and private schools?
IF NOT, WHY NOT?
George Barna’s research on evangelism indicates interesting statistics.
Elementary school students have a 32 % acceptance rate when presented the truth
of the Gospel. By teen age, this rate drops to about 6 % and continues
throughout the remainder of his/her life span.
The Mission America Public School Ministry network encourages City Reachers to
consider public schools and especially elementary students as a major target.
Church and City Reachers should target this age group by intentionally
considering strategies for public schools.
Strategic ministry resources are available to assist you.
The Public School Ministry Network’s web site – IAM4schools.com. contains
City Reacher information. The three ideas on Quick Start --PRAYER – CARE - and
SHARE – show how to do each effectively.
A list of ministries – national and local – will be displayed as you scroll
down, all of which can be used strategically to reach your public/private
schools.
Several of these ministries have agreed to work together as a City Impact Team
committed to come alongside you and the local church to reach local schools for
the long haul -- not just for an event or for a few months’ outreach.
Any vision for local schools should include a sustained outreach of ministry and
service to schools in order to “earn the right to be heard.”
Going to a school to partner with them in solving the many needs apparent in
every school district will “earn one the right to be heard.” The local
church will influence the school for Christ, as is exemplified by many such
churches and City Reachers who have already been active.
As servants, we can change the culture of the school. Look at some simple ways
to do that by going to Quick Starts on IAM4schools.com.
Don’t stop there! Print out the list of ministries available. If you want to
work directly with students at the elementary level, consider Christian
Released Time Education. The BEST NETWORK can help you with this.
Christian teachers and administrators are already inside the school at all grade
and age levels. Christian Educators Association International is
available to assist you in equipping and empowering this group of missionaries.
Contact the National Network of Youth Ministries to find out how to
expand and coordinate the efforts of youth pastors and parachurch organizations
already active on school campuses.
What we do together, in a common strategy, greatly enhances the opportunities in
seeing Christ being lifted up in our public schools. The future of our nation -
our cities - are found in the students within our schools.
City Reachers, please call upon the Public School Ministry Network to assist in
developing short- and long-term strategies for your city.
Email IAM4schools@ceai.org, or
contact any of the organizations at IAM4schools.com.
Remember, there are 52,000,000 school age children, 91,000 school campuses, and
just over 15,000 public school districts. We want to mobilize a minimum of
91,000 educator prayer groups and see thousands of Christians trained and hired
as teachers and administrators in public schools. Strategic prayer,
perseverance, priorities, and dependence on Almighty God will bring about His
plans for our schools.

>From: praycf@juno.com
Greetings in the name of the Lord. It was a blessing to have Pastor Jackson
Senyonga from Uganda (Transformations 2 video) spent some time with us in
October. See below for a summary of his teaching on transformation prayer.
Pastor Senyonga announced that pastors of Central Florida churches would be
teaching their churches about prayer, including corporate prayer, in January. He
has sent some teaching/preaching notes that should be on our web site in early
December. A big citywide prayer meeting with Pastor Senyonga is being
planned for February 4th. Stay tuned for the details!
More prayer; what will it take?
Pastor Jackson Senyonga is right, we need more teaching on personal prayer and
on the power of corporate prayer. See the opening paragraph for Pastor Senyonga’s
call for teaching on prayer throughout the month of January. Of greater
importance than teaching, we need to actually do more praying, both individually
and corporately, a lot more. Pastors and prayer leaders, we should not fall into
the trap of blaming our people for their prayerlessness. We must first look at
our own lives – are our prayer lives contagious? Do we practice what we preach
about prayer or do we preface our remarks with “I’m preaching to myself too”?
Are our prayer meetings exciting, filled with the presence of God and led by His
Spirit? Do people leave knowing they have touched the heart of God? Do we
involve all the people who come by varying the styles of prayer and breaking
into smaller groups? Or are the meetings dry as dust with people praying their
own desires for an overwhelming laundry list of complaints? Is it surprising
that people don’t want to go to meetings like that? I often ask myself if I
would want to go to my meetings if I weren’t leading them. I also pray for at
least an hour for every meeting I do. That is in addition to any time I spend
studying, researching or planning. If we don’t even pray for our meetings why
should people bother to come?
Transformation Prayer
Pastor Jackson Senyonga from Uganda (Transformations 2 video) teaches that
transformation prayer has five main characteristics.
1) It begins with personal and corporate repentance as
we repent from our own sins and confess the sins of our city (Judges 10:10,
Jonah 3:5-8 and Daniel 9).
2) It involves prayer for the whole city. We must see
with God’s eyes and pray big (Jer 29:7).
3) It is intentional. We pray the purposes of God for
our city, purpose driven prayers.
4) It is sustained (Luke 18:1 – 8 woman and judge,
Matt. 7:7 – 11 asking, seeking, knocking).
5) It is desperate (Heb. 5:7 Jesus prayed with loud
crying and tears, Judges 10:13-16).

>Subject: Pastor Letter from Jackson Senyonga
Dear Pastor,
May God's richest blessings be upon you and yours this day!
I want to thank you for the commitment you have to your city and for your
continual obedience to God's will in service to His people.
As I have shared with pastors across the city several times, I believe God wants
to transform Central Florida, fumigate it with His glory and make it
harvestable. He is calling His Church to cooperate with Him in united,
strategic, fervent intercessory prayer so he can fulfill the prayers of His Son
Jesus: "Lord, let them be one...." John 17:11,20. "And...I will
give You the nations for Your inheritance." Psalm 2:8
As God has transformed my nation Uganda in three levels--(I Timothy 2:1,2) the
political arena, the marketplace and the spiritual world, the church--He wants
to bring this awareness to Central Florida. That nation of Uganda is privileged
to partner with you in prayer that leaders and believers will rise to the
occasion and take prayer for transformation to the next level.
We have learned Six Levels of Prayer through a long, hard experience as a
nation, and we believe He has used these Levels to alter our nation's landscape.
It is my privilege to help share, facilitate together with Vision Orlando and
other leaders in the city like you, as we begin this transformation process.
In the series of meetings we have had in the city, key leaders like Pastor Jim
Henry (First Baptist Church), Randolph Bracy (New Covenant Baptist Church),
Clark Whitten (Calvary Assembly), Dave Wilson (All Saints Episcopal), Tommy Moya
(Centro Cristiano Restauracion), Zachery Tims (New Destiny Christian Center),
Joel Hunter (Northland, a Church Distributed), Alex Clattenburg (Church in the
Son), Howard Edington (First Presbyterian Church), David Janney (Orlando Baptist
Church) voiced their conviction that the city has never come this close around a
vision, been so unified, having a purpose so genuine to intentionally and
strategically coordinate citywide prayer towards God's eternal purposes for
Central Florida.
Purpose for this letter:
I prayerfully ask you to join this Godly purpose by planning to transition your
congregation into a praying church, not only a church with a prayer ministry.
This will be started by taking the whole month of January 2003 teaching on
prayer during your weekend and midweek services.
Many pastors in the city are already committed to doing this at the same time
(January) in order that we can lead the city together in the same direction and
have cooperative victories across the city.
The purpose of this teaching is to introduce the first level of prayer which is
Personal Transformation as families make a commitment to stronger prayer
lifestyles intentionally directed towards transformation.
There is nothing so exciting as pastoring a praying congregation. I believe this
is one of the greatest privileges God will ever give to any pastor. How will
Greater Orlando look if thousands of Christians across the city pray
strategically each day for the Lord to come to our region?
Please continue to pray that God will give us, together with you, progressive
revelation on how to implement the other five levels of prayer in Central
Florida. Right now, as I promised in the meeting on October 21, I am finishing
the resource materials that I will send to you with sermon notes and suggestions
on how to introduce the First Level in your church. You should receive these
shortly. When you receive them please review and prepare prayerfully in
transitioning your church towards this cooperative effort. For more information,
contact me at pastorjackson@christian-life.org or visionorlando@ccci.org.
God has done it in Uganda. He will do it here. His presence will be restored,
resulting in a region-wide harvest for His glory alone.
His best be yours is my prayer.
In Cry for Transformation, s/Jackson Senyonga

Phil, in Manchester, NH there is a young Nigerian who moved there a few years
ago from Nigeria with a burden to reach the city through calling pastors to
pray. I ministered to the city pastors last June and again about
a month ago. It is awesome what God is doing through this young man, Godswill
Keenam. Last Saturday they had a powerful city prayer breakfast with 28 pastors
in attendance. There was reconciliation between pastors, repentance, and
blessing!

Hi Phil, You asked what God was doing in our pastors prayer movement on
Long Island.
After assuming responsibility in December 2001 as the Long Island Coordinator
for Concerts of Prayer Greater New York, 2002 began with some momentum building
as we entered the summer months. We had over 50 pastors come together for the
first Long Island Pastors Concert of Prayer in April. Somehow we lost momentum
over the summer and a Pastors Prayer Retreat we had scheduled for October needed
to be canceled. But being ever mindful of what Churchill said "never give
up, never never never, give up" we are regathering and as Paul instructs
"we press on to the higher calling." It is important that we, the
city-reachers God has called, not grow discouraged. If the pastors were already
coming together on their own we would be out of a job.

The following articles are testimonies and personal responses to the Citywide
United Prayer Gathering on September 11, 2002 at Houston's First Baptist Church.
If you were one of those who came and did not get into the prayer meeting please
know that your coming made an impact for the kingdom of God. Thank you for
participating even in that way!!!
Approximately 4400 people gathered at Houston's First Baptist Church last night.
Standing room only in the sanctuary, a full chapel watching by closed
circuit TV, and use of the choir room as well. Police officers said that
many were turned away because all the parking was filled. At one point
their was a line of cars over a mile long, attempting to exit from I-10.
In addition to this gathering, hundreds of individual congregations had services
and there were inter-denominational gatherings in The Woodlands, Sugar Land, and
Pearland. There may not have been a time in Houston in my life-time when
so much united prayer was taking place.
I give thanks to God! I remind you that for many (this) was an event to
remember the past. For a growing group of us - it was the next step in an
ongoing process designed to foster a united, strategic, citywide prayer movement
that seeks the transformation of our city. I want to express personal
appreciation to Steve Riggle and the staff and leadership of Grace Community
Church and to David Self and the staff and leadership of Houston's First Baptist
Church for their sacrificial service to the city in facilitating this event.
Blessings, Jim Herrington, Executive Director, Mission Houston:

I attended the Pray 911 service at First Baptist on September 11, 2002. I
lost six friends and ex-colleagues at the World Trade Center. As phone
calls came in from fraternity members and former colleagues, the tragedy of that
day kept on getting worse. I remember being in New York in July 2001
having lunch with a couple of them at the Windows of the World restaurant on the
top of the WTC. A couple of my friends were not able to lunch that day and
I told them the next time I was in NYC, we should try to get together. Well,
that never happened. Instead, I flew to NYC last December to visit ‘Ground
Zero.’ It was the day the demolition crew took down the final piece of
the outer-part of one of the towers that was still standing. While
viewing the site, I noticed three things: 1) the iron beam that was
in the shape of the cross 2) the church on the inner side of the WTC site that
has been used as a gathering place 3) I believe it is a little Greek
Orthodox church that in the middle of all the disaster is still standing.
Before the disaster, the little church, in the middle of a parking lot
facing Battery Park, was an amazing sight to see from the top of the WTC.
This past year has been a struggle with my growth with Christ.
The service was the most moving, most inspirational, and most out-of-the
normal comfort zone service I have ever experienced. What you and the other
sponsoring churches provided last night is exactly what this city, state, nation
and world needs. You definitely showed that diversity is our strength.
I am a member of a conservative church and the waiving of hands and
dancing are not a normal part of my congregation. I found it exciting to
see how all us glorify the Lord, no matter what method we use. We are all
glorifying the Holy One.
Well, I am sure that you are wondering why I e-mailed you. God works
wonders through individuals. I estimate that over 3,500 folks were in
attendance last night. Give or take a couple of 100, that was the number
of individuals that were killed in the attacks. Somehow, through God, the
3,500 plus of us that were gathered at First Baptist last night were called by
God to be there last night for a reason.
I am honored to live in a city that can celebrate ethnic and religious
diversity. Please keep up the excellent work. In His Name,
Christopher John Loefflermes here
- - - -
I came in to HFBC from Katy. Last night I worked an hour past my normal time
because I have been on vacation and am behind in my work. I also stopped at my
house to change clothes. Bottom line, I was late finally getting on the way to
the church, and I-10 was a nightmare. Anyway, I was 20 or 25 minutes late when I
finally got to the church. Every drive was blocked! I finally decided I would
have to drive back home and was vexed about it. Then I realized how great it was
to have a problem like that! People were turning out in droves! Shortly after I
got into my right mind, I was directed to a parking building and found a place
to park.
It appears to have been a good decision to give people time to pray for
themselves and each other. The lady I sat next to mentioned how tired and
harried she was. I told her I would pray for her, and put my hand on her arm and
prayed silently. I could tell she gratefully received my prayer. She is a magnet
school teacher for Houston ISD and was there with a friend, and a black woman
who spoke at the microphone is her pastor. The name of my "new friend"
is Monica Boney. She was glad she had come and had a big smile on her face when
we left. Monica is also interested in the Transformation tapes, so if you can
give me ordering information for her I will appreciate it. Thanks.
-----
It was a great evening. And isn't it an awesome thing to think that the living
God will visit your town or your city when He is earnestly invited!
Just want to encourage you to press on!
Mark and I and our two children were there last night. On the way in, we were
excited and encouraged to see all the crowds. We met a black family with five
children from SE Houston in the parking lot and walked in them -- fellow
believers with whom we would probably not meet in our daily circles and yet with
whom we instantly felt a strong bond and like-mindedness. It was so awesome and
invigorating to come together and pray with the body of Christ of all cultures,
languages, nationalities, races, etc, in Houston.
I was inspired by the statement that "God came because He was
invited." I prayed at the altar and my seat last night for God and His
spirit to have full reign in our schools, media, government, entertainment
industry, etc. I believe God got a lot of personal invitations last night! So I
am expecting Him to show up!! Laura Giraud

Over 600 pastor's and local men's ministry leaders met in Indianapolis November
14-16, at the fourth annual National Coalition of Men's Ministries training
conference. Outstanding, prolonged worship and prayer, anointed speakers and 32
workshop sessions made this a highlight event. With 98 million men of 18 years
or older in the US and only 26 million attending Church services, and with 85%
of those 72 million men not attending having been previously churched, it raises
many questions. Such questions as: " What is about our churches that causes
men to leave them?" " Why hasn't the Church seen this as a
crisis?" Why is so little money allocated to men's ministries." The
need of men's ministry has never been greater, nor our resources better.!

In a message dated 12/3/2002, mattbreedlove@yahoo.com
writes:
In your article [When Nothing is Happening] you stated that you had much to say,
but that space would not permit. I wish to hear everything and more from you...a
kindred spirit on this topic.
Dear Matt:
Grace be with you, mercy and peace, from God our Father
and our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for your 'like hearted"
email ... As I re-read your question, I have wondered how to answer it
pertinently. The best way that I can do that is to say the following:
I am preparing to teach at a couple of leadership conferences in Nigeria
in early January. God is putting on my heart and mind to express to His
people HIS PERSONAL LONGING towards the saints, which is first and foremost, and
only, and always... relational! The byproduct of this fulfilled
longing, as each responds to it individually, will produce the fruit of the same
cross/death centered life that was in our Lord Jesus Christ. This
will result in the natural fulfillment of God's 'secondary' longing, (which
secondary longing WE, mainly consider priority but is flesh based, ... the
Martha Vs Mary focus), for Him to work through each individual "according
to the proper function of each" [Eph 4:16] so that as a result, the Lord
fills all in all and reveals Himself in the world.
The missing link in the effectiveness of the body of
Christ in our cities is primarily an issue of life - not a need for new
organizational strategy. Away with all our titles, our programs, our
promotions, our world ways, and away even with our strivings to bring the church
to unity; ultimately, we are called to none of this even though of course, God
makes limited use of it for the time being; but it certainly is not His best!
There are of course many strategic considerations to the actual work of the
church but they must be primarily organically based and induced; not
organizationally fostered.
The other missing link [which actually derives from our
deficiency in the first] is our separation from our Jewish roots which has
resulted in absolutely no jealousy [Rom 11:11] at all on the part of the
descendants of Abraham according to the flesh as they see the body of Christ in
operation. Yet in God's mind, it is still "to the Jew first";
and there is more underlying this statement than merely witnessing. It
also addresses our whole inner and outer identity and mindset as a people, and
the identification to the nations, of the God of Israel as the only God.
But be certain that God WILL fulfill Romans 10:19. We have done a
good job at the later part of His promise to Israel, but a lousy job at its
first part.
I have been working on a series of articles which will
eventually find their way on a website but not until June at the earliest.
They are interrelated around different concepts and it would not do
justice for me to send you some. It would be like sending some parts of
pictures of a puzzle. You'd read it and say "Yes but what
about..." The reserved name is www.InTheNameOfTheTruth.com.
Since you are into prayer, I hope this will help
generate an expanded focus for prayer for the Church in the city. This city
where I have been for 22 years (Las Vegas) has been the very best learning
ground God could have ever sent me to!
May our Lord bless you, Jean-Claude

territory in order to bring about a unified prayer network. Please pray
that the walls between churches will be removed for this purpose.

Praise the Lord! What an awesome day Saturday, November 30th , turned out
to be here in the Tampa Bay Area! First of all, we want to thank each and
every one of you who have prayed for this first "Pray The Bay" Prayer
Cruise on Tampa Bay. It wouldn't have happened without the prayers that
went up for this event. As you can well imagine, there was much spiritual
opposition to this prayer boat going out.
We feel a major breakthrough took place that day. The body of Christ came
together in unity, prayer, worship, communion and we all had a meal together.
We had a wonderful time of fellowship and getting acquainted with
"newfound brothers and sisters" in Christ.
There were 135 people on board. All ages were represented. There was
ethnic and denominational diversity as we all came together to humble ourselves
in prayer. We combined our different gifts and talents to praise our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ. Now we are waiting in anxious expectation of what
God is going to do here! (Please e-mail us or call our office with praise
reports).
