*CONVERSATION ~ THE FREEDOM OF ACCOUNTABILITY
>From: “SCOPE Training” <training@scopeministries.org>

    Examples of accountability
1. Accountable to God for decisions, behavior, and actions.  (Romans 3:19)
Believers follow Christ.  (Galatians 5:18, Romans 8:1, Romans 6:16)
Christians joyfully agree with God’s law.

2. Accountable to man, rulers, and authorities for our decisions, behavior,
and actions.
Leviticus 24:17 - Accountable to man
Romans 13:1-2a - Accountable to governing authorities (exception Acts 5:29)

3. Accountable to our brothers/sisters in Christ for our decisions,
behavior, and actions.
I Thessalonians 5:12-15 - Submitting to our leaders
Ephesians 5:21-22 - Submission in marriage “as to the Lord”

4. Building an accountability team.
a. An accountability team is:
 1) one or several partners you meet or talk with frequently
 2) someone with whom you have regular contact by personal contact, phone
calls, or letters
 3) someone you can share your life and ministry goals
4) someone with whom you can share temptations and struggles, encouragement
and joy
b. Selecting an accountability team:
Select:
Those who have a different gift from yours
Those who love God’s Word (Psalm 119:11)
Those who have the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
Those who are mature Christians (Ephesians 4:14-15)
Those who have the attitude of Christ (I Peter 5:2-3), not a dictator

5. The purpose of your accountability team.
a. Main purpose is to point us toward our relationship with God.
Philippians 4:19 - God shall supply all your needs according to His riches
and glory in Christ Jesus. It is to keep us from getting off track in our
Christian life, from looking in the wrong places to have our needs met
(idolatry).  In times like these we need others to point us toward GOD. We
need people who will speak the truth in love to us.
b. An accountability team helps us see the big picture.
Proverbs 15:22 - Without consultation, plans are frustrated, but with many
counselors they succeed.  As we receive teaching and training from others it
helps to see the bigger picture.
c. An accountability team helps us to receive encouragement, strength, and
prayer support.
Hebrews 10:24-25 - Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and
good deeds.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 - Therefore encourage one another, and build up one
another, just as you also are doing.
James 5:16 - Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one
another, so that you may be healed.  The effective prayer of a righteous man
can accomplish much.

Roles of an accountability team
1. Admit you have needs
2. Pray for one another
3. Find healing and victory over sin through this relationship with your
brothers and sisters
4. Have team pray for your relationship with God.
5. Remember that prayer and Holy Spirit are your support when you are alone.

You might be asking:
Is God enough?  Is the Holy Spirit enough?  Yes.  But God has given us a
relationship with other believers.  Why not draw from God’s gracious gift?

Summary:
Ecclesiastes 4:9-13 (Living Bible) Two can accomplish more than twice as
much as one, (10) If one falls, the other pulls him up; but if a man falls
when he is alone, he’s in trouble. (11) Also, on a cold night, two under the
same blanket gain warmth from each other. One standing alone can be attacked
and defeated, but two can stand back to back and conquer; three is even
better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

Accountability is not God, an individual, or a group dictating control over
another person.
Accountability does not mean those we submit to are always correct.
Accountability says,
”I have a teachable spirit.”
”I don’t have all the answers.”
”I choose to submit my mind and will to God through other believers.”
”I am encouraged and strengthened in my faith through fellow believers.”
”I meet with a small group of friends who will speak God’s truth to me, even
when it is difficult.”
”I openly and honestly share trials and joys without the fear of
condemnation.”
Finally, accountability says, “I share my love with Christians close to me
so that God may be glorified.”

An African Parable: The Proud Frog

Once there was a frog who lived in a pond. Winter was approaching and
the frog was getting very cold. One day he shared his problem with two
ducks. The ducks felt sorry for him and asked, “What can we do?” They
talked for a long while. Finally, they came up with a great idea. They
would find a branch and the ducks would each hold one end of the branch
with their long bill. The frog would grab the branch with his mouth, and
they would fly far away to a warm place. And so up they flew and after a
time, they passed over a village. The villagers looked up and said,
”What a clever idear? Which one of you thought of this clever idea?”
With that, the frog quickly opened his mouth and shouted, “Me!”

*SACRAMENTO, CA: PASTORS’ SUMMIT
>From: “PraySacramento” <Info@PraySacramento.com>

These are exciting days to see God’s hand working around the world and in
the Sacramento region.  I have worked in the prayer mobilization ministry
for nearly twenty years in this region and never have I seen God’s grace
being poured out upon His Church and our communities as it is now. It’s a
wonderful time to be alive and involved in God’s Kingdom work.

I have worked in city prayer coordination on a variety of levels. For twelve
years I served on the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast Committee, the Sacramento
Community Leaders Prayer Committee and the National Day of Prayer Committee.
Besides these annual community events, I have served on numerous special
events committees as a prayer coordinator, i.e., Promise Keepers (2), Women
of Faith (1), Billy Graham Crusades (2), Jubilee of Jesus Christ 2000, and
other events. I have always sort to work with pastors and local churches as
a bridge builder in the Body of Christ.

My personal mission and calling of God for this city and region has been to
bring believers together in the Spirit of Christ to accomplish what He wants
to do in our city and region.  It has been my prayer and hope to see the
Lord bring to this region godly men and women to equip His Church; to see
and encourage Christian ministries to come to our city to strengthen the
Church in our area.  It is still my prayer and hope to see Missions Agencies
want to make Sacramento their home base of operation to the world and that
their vision would inspire the Church in this region to greater world
outreach.  Moreover, it’s been my prayer for the Lord to raise up secondary
Christian education institutions across our region.  And it’s growing.  I am
praying for commerce and the school districts in our area to become
institutions of truth and knowledge, integrity and positive economics while
producing quality products and excellent services. And lastly that God would
raise up a righteous men and women of integrity in the political arenas of
our region, be it city, county or state government.  Sacramento is destined
to live up to its’ name.  And God’s presence is what will change everything!
I believe that as God’s people continuously live out 2 Chronicles 7:14, He
will hear from heaven, forgive our sins and heal every aspect of our land.
That’s City Transformation!!

My hope is that you will want to be a part with the flow of the unity of the
Spirit in the Family of God at this time in our region. There is an
anticipation and expectation that God will and is working out His purposes
for our region. I invite you, your staff and ministry leaders of your
church, to attend the November 10th, Pastors Summit of Sacramento At Prayer.
This 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. gathering will be at the Fair Oaks Presbyterian
Church’s new Family Center (916-967-4784), 11427 Fair Oaks Blvd, in Fair
Oaks.  Dr. Tony Evans, Jon Petersen and Pastor Brian Warren will be leading
us into kingdom of God truth from Ephesians that will greatly bless the
churches of the region..

By the way, this Pastor’s Summit is not just for pastors, but for your
entire ministerial staff, CE director, youth director, music/worship leader,
other associates, Board members, intercessors and administrative staff. On
November 10th God is going to impart His vision for His city of Sacramento;
that’s why it’s so important for all of us involved His Work, to be
together.

I am enclosing a copy of the agenda that the pastoral executive steering
committee has approved for that day. Also, you will note we have sent a copy
of the Sacramento Regional Prayer Covenant. This prayer covenant is at the
heart of what God is wanting to do in our region.

Please feel free to reproduce this letter, agenda and covenant, and send it
to your ministry friends in our region. We do not want to overlook anyone!
Encourage them to mark their calendars for their attendance and
participation in what might very well become one of the most significant
ministry gatherings in our history. I hope you will sense that and want to
be a part of God’s moving at this time.  Phone Sally at 916-786-5690, ext 3
to register your attendance or write or email at address below.. Each person
needs to, who can, donate $25 for the registration for this event, which
includes lunch, materials, etc..

I hope you will make every effort to be there!   Like you, I love this city
and region. I love His Church and His people. I love the LORD our God and
like you I want to see Him exalted in His city and region of the Sacrament.

Please be in prayer for that special day of November 10th and all the
preparations and people involved.  Ask your intercessors to focus their
praying accordingly.

There has been warfare in all the preparations for this gather, but our GOD
is the Mighty Victor!
Serving you for Christ in our City and Region,  Joe Walsh:

*SACRAMENTO, CA: REGIONAL PRAYER COVENANT
>From: “PraySacramento” <Info@PraySacramento.com>

”Transforming Society Through Prayer”

We, the undersigned, have come together in Sacramento to seek how we can
stand firm for our Lord, Jesus Christ, for the Greater Sacramento Region.
We have agreed that our Region is in great need of urgent and effective
prayer for every aspect of Society.   We are challenged personally to
prepare our own hearts for revival and united prayer according to the
principles outlined below:

If my people, who are called by my name . . .
                                                                 The
responsibility for the spiritual state of the Greater Sacramento Region
rests with the Church.  We agree to call upon the whole Church to be
Sacramento at prayer.

Shall humble themselves . . .

Fasting is a biblical and practical way of humbling ourselves before the
living God.  We agree to call upon all Christians in every city and town in
the Greater Sacramento Region to set aside the first Friday of each month as
a day of prayer with fasting for this Region.

And pray . . .

We agree to cooperate with existing prayer strategies and to
develop new ones, to ensure that networks of prayer cover the entire Greater
Sacramento Region by the year 2003.

And seek my face . . .

We have trusted ourselves and the programs of men rather than
seeking God and His ways.  We agree to seek God’s heart and direction for
our lives and ministries and are determined to obey the Holy Spirit
promptly.

And turn from their wicked ways . . .
                                                                        We
agree to repent, and go on repenting as God deals with our hearts, and
recommit ourselves to serving God’s Kingdom and the growth of His people.
We will be diligent to confess every known sin in our lives and to put aside
every doubtful habit.

Then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their
land . . .                              We agree to seek God together until
we experience the fulfillment of this promise - a spiritual awakening in the
whole Greater Sacramento Region that will result in a powerful proclamation
of the Gospel and the continual transforming of our society.

*MINNEAPOLIS, ST. PAUL, MN: “CLEAN AND READY”
>From: PTM@prayertransformation.com
Friday the 13th was a day of VICTORY for the church! From the fact that
Dr. Blackaby’s plane was right on time and gave a chance for some on-line
time on KTIS to a day of powerful moving of the Spirit. There were over
1,000 at Bethel for the Transformational Church Series. Powerful messages,
and many who said their lives were deeply impacted. The evening “Fresh
Encounter” at the Convention Center saw almost 2,500 come to experience
powerful worship with Heart of the City, and a message on Preparing the way
of the Lord. The response said it all. At the challenge to respond, the
front of the auditorium was packed and every isle was filled with people
saying, “I want my life to be clean and ready to prepare the way for the
coming of the Lord.”
Thank you to everyone who prayed. The Lord came in a powerful way. If
you missed the evening event, the message was taped. For information on  how
to order the tape, call the Prayer Transformation Ministries office at:
612-278-1717. May this be just the beginning of a mighty moving of the
Spirit in St. Paul and Minneapolis, and beyond. Thanks again for all your
prayers.

*HOUSTON, TX: 4 VENUES, 165 PASTORS & LEADERS, MULTIETHNIC
>From: Mission Houston<jhmh@swbell.net>

We are one month away from the evening when a significant portion of the
church in the city will gather in unity to lift up the name of Jesus in
worship and prayer.  Over 165 pastors and ministry leaders are standing
together in issuing this invitation to the Body of Christ (mid November).

If we fill all four venues we will have approximately 17,000 believers from
the greater Houston area gathering in unity to pray and worship the Lord,
Jesus.  Each of the four venues has a multiethnic team of pastors and
worship leaders who are planning the gathering.

At each location we will take an offering for the poor in our city.
This offering will be given to Somebody Cares Houston, Doug Stringer
Founder, for distribution to churches and ministries throughout the city.
Please come prepared to give.

Would you consider doing three things TODAY?
1.  Commit to attend - there are four locations - see
http://www.missionhouston.org
2.  Communicate with the intercessory prayer ministry in your church and ask
that ministry to pray that God will draw his body together that evening.
3.  Serve as a catalyst for this event by inviting someone (in addition to a
family member) to join you in participating.

God is unifying his church! Blessings, JTH

*TOLEDO, OH: CITY REACHING THINK TANK
>From: SURFINGOHIO@cs.com

City Reaching Think Tank:  It was wonderful.  It was one of our most
powerful
meetings.  God gave us His vision for His Church and what we are to do in
greater Toledo.  His vision (simple but not easy) is for His Church (us) to
be humble and broken, and humble and broken, and humble and broken.  Once we

are, He will accomplish His work through us in our region.

Conclusion-  WANT REVIVAL?  We need to ask God to break us and bring us to
the place of humility.  I told you it wasn’t easy.

Next Metro Toledo Bimonthly Clergy Prayer Meeting-  Monday, November 13th,
from 2PM - 4PM, at Glass City Christian Fellowship, 2743 W. Central Ave.,
Toledo.  Bring someone with you.

Metro Toledo Prayer Summit-  January 29 - February 1

Special Thanks- to all who responded by prayer and sending donations to help

us meet our financial needs.  We still have a ways to go but God will see us

through.  Thank You Jesus.

I pray that God will continue to bless you and continue to lead you into His

perfect will.

I would like to receive your e-mail updates, however I am not a pastor.  My
name is Jessica Matthews.  I am the prayer coordinator for KHCE 23 (a
Christian TV station in San Antonio, Tx) and the zone prayer coordinator for
the Texas Jesus Video Project.  It is my heart’s desire to intercede for our
shepherds and to unite intercessors and Pastors.  Because of the
mighty move of God (in the realm of prayer) we [intercessors] NEED Pastors.
And because of the calling God has placed on our lives, we NEED to be armor
bearers.

*PPGs ON CHICAGO’S WEST FLANK
>From: “Tony Danhelka” <Tony@avenew.com>

My name is Tony Danhelka and I help facilitate pastors in Kane County which
is 35 miles west of Chicago along the Fox River. Over the past three years I
have had the privilege of facilitating four regions within Kane County that
each consist of about 100,000 in population and a total of 450 local
churches. These churches could plant 1100 new churches in Kane County that
could grow by conversion into 250 member churches and not take one person
from an existing church.

Each of the four regions within Kane County now have a Pastor Prayer Group
that meets monthly. About 5 to 10 pastors in each region will meet for one
hour of prayer for their region. Light Houses and other prayer initiatives
are done seasonally with minimal participation and renewal results.

To date it would appear that one thing works... “Intentional activities that
build Trust Relationships with Pastors and Ministry leaders.” We have not
discovered any quick marketing techniques that have worked to fill the
prayer gatherings with pastors, just meticulously slow and time consuming
activities that build intentional trust relationships.

A few of these activities that we have found helpful are:

1. We rotate twice each month to willing church pastors in each region that
will host a one hour noon time prayer gathering of Pastors and Ministry
Leaders. 10 minutes of greetings and the hosting pastors prayer concerns and
50 minutes of prayer.

2. Every six months we Invite pastors to come to a special noon hour at City
Hall and join other pastors who pray for two minutes on assigned topics for
the high profile leaders in your community (Mayors, Congressman, or District
Legislators).

3. The five most active pastors of each region gather quarterly at a local
camp chapel for a two hour luncheon to discuss Kane County City Reaching
issues.

4. Each Spring we join with the 3 day Chicagoland Pastors Prayer Summit.

These are humble activities that prompt a core of trust-relationships to
begin between pastors. Many have expressed that they have longed to pray
with other pastors but didn’t know how to start.

Warmly in Christ,  Rev. Tony Danhelka

PS. Soon the day will come when we walk into these prayer gatherings and the
rooms will be filled with pastors and ministry leaders who were drawn by the
Holy Spirit. We will then know that it is a move of God and not our magnetic
personalities or great marketing skills. Until then we keep adding another
log (Lev.6:12) and taking six more steps (2Sam6:13).

>From: <PrayChattanooga@aol.com>
Thank you for this exciting networking effort!
I am coordinator of a prayer effort called Pray Chattanooga! We are
attempting to foster and steward a prayer movement in Chattanooga. A
”servant Leadership team” has sprung from our two Pastors’ Prayer Summits
and we are preparing for our third summit in February. At present there are
11 weekly prayer cells, 2 daily cells, and 4 monthly. Most have developed in
the past 2 years. We aim to develop 12 more weekly cells in the next two
years. We are just scratching the surface but we are very thankful to God
for what he has done and is doing.
I would love to be a part of your network and if you will give me your
office mailing address I’ll send you a sheet with all the prayer times.
Warmly, Jim Hayes

*NEW JERSEY: STRATEGIC PRAYER NETWORK
>From: Onie M Kittle <oni-prayerexplosion1@juno.com>
God is certainly increasing a spirit of networking, partnering,
ministry, in our state. As we die to ourselves and enter into “abounding
love” for one another, we are drawn into oneness with our Lord and have a
great sense of fulfilling His purposes. Glory to His name.
We are excited about the calls that come in to equip intercessors; meet
with pastors prayer groups; facilitate statewide ‘harp & bowl’ gatherings.
We are equally excited about the reports from you, your churches, cities and
counties and of how God is moving in your midst. This really helps us know
how to target our prayers.
We are believing God to help us as we revisit (and in some cases for the
first time) Pastors/Intercessors city prayer groups. We need to hear from
you: “What is God saying to you about your area, this state, etc.” Earlier
this week, John and Sheryl and I drove up to Sussex County to revisit a
group of pastors. What an incredible day of prayer, teaching, repentance,
deliverance, bonding, you name it. Jesus walked into our agreement and
manifest His full character. We felt like we had midwifed a birthing. What a
tremendous group! What an awesome God!
