God richly blessed both the National Leadership Forum (approximately 800
participants) and the City Impact Roundtable (approximately 200 different
participants). These leaders came from across North America and represented a
wide variety f denominations, organizations, and associations. Conveners brought
teams of city reachers from locations such as Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Miami, Florida
and Chicago, Illinois. Of course New York City was present as they served as
gracious and thought-provoking hosts.
The measure of success for the NLF and the CIR will unfold in the next 9-18
months as we return to our cities and communities, share the vision of
collaborative holistic evangelism with others, and begin taking steps forward
together.
Visit
http://www.cityreaching.com and review the notes from the Tracks. These
interactive sessions focused on one specific aspect of the task of showing &
telling "the Gospel in the City."

One Great City exists to serve the whole Church throughout
Chicagoland, by networking, communicating, resourcing and convening pastors,
ministry leaders and prayer networkers so that they collaborate by taking the
whole Gospel to the whole City and beyond.
One Great City envisions a unified Church praying and working
towards a Christ focused transformation across the Chicago region. Therefore,
OGC convenes roundtable gatherings of leaders, provides a web directory of
congregations and ministries, and communicates activities and opportunities that
promote collaborative efforts which result in a Christ focused transformation of
people, neighborhoods and social structures and systems

The City of Milwaukee has many excellent faith-based
ministries working on the front lines of need. Their leaders and volunteers are
moved by a genuine passion to relieve suffering. Like all growing organizations,
they need counsel to make the most of their efforts. For ministries showing
promise for ongoing, fruitful service, and willing to be accountable for their
actions, BASICS provides help in these project areas.
Ministry leaders and workers delivering healing services to
the impoverished need advice and encouragement that only BASICS offers. Project
management services organize and direct volunteers from the Greater Milwaukee
Area in helping urban ministries with improvements to their ministries and
facilities. Management and financial consultation is given to faith-based
organizations requiring special assistance with their operations.
One of the best ways to help our community help itself is to inform it about the
many resources and services available in the faith community. BASICS maintains a
database of information on church and outreach ministry resources in the
metropolitan area. Our resource directory establishes a sustainable network that
provides referrals and efficiently matches resources with needs. Churches and
outreach ministries also can publicize their services to the community on this
web site.
Ministry Support
Evaluated 25 central city ministries that requested assistance for needs ranging
from establishing nonprofit status to building restoration. Seven of these
projects were completed with 21 ministry requests awaiting assessment. Thirteen
projects are approved and await resources of funds, volunteers and material
gifts in kind.
Resource Information
Developed a database of ministry information and a services directory for
ministry referrals. Over 1,400 organizations are part of this database and used
by the BASICS Information — Referral Center.
Prayer Networking
Established numerous prayer teams, prayer events and weekly prayer meetings at
Milwaukee Enterprise Center — North and throughout the Metro area.
Urban Ministry Leadership
Supported the start-up of an Urban Ministry Training Institute in partnership
with Imani Pastors, MICAH, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette
University and City College/COH. Provided project management training to over 15
ministry volunteers and studied the feasibility of establishing an Urban
Ministry Resource Center at the City of Hope in central Milwaukee.
Ministers to Milwaukee
Organized “Ministers to Milwaukee” program as part of establishing BASICS as a
mission agency for people to serve as God calls them to minister to children,
teens, adults and families in Milwaukee. Ten “Ministers” are currently serving
with BASICS in the city and are raising their own personal support.
Partnerships
Facilitated the start-up of the Faith Partnership Network in Milwaukee to study
the viability of receiving government funds to support President Bush’s Faith
based and Community Initiative. Provided management resources in continued
collaborations with 12 Church and community organizations.
Internal Leadership Development
Established a leadership team of nine BASICS volunteers who meet weekly to
address the areas of prayer, ministry outreach, communications, information
technology, ministry support projects and resource development.

>From: Glenn Barth <Glenn@missionamerica.org>
The reports have been pouring into our office from church and community leaders
from around the nation that held services commemorating September 11 with
Mission America’s Honor Our Heroes theme. Services in over three thousand
churches across the nation honored those who serve; often putting their own
lives in jeopardy for the sake of our lives, liberty and property. Above all,
Jesus Christ was honored and lifted up as the Hope for all in the face of
despair and as our Savior from the brokenness of sin. The Bible says: Very
rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man, someone might
possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His love for us in this: While we
were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:7-8) Many were offered an
opportunity to begin a new life in Christ that night.
Arn Quakkelaar, our Mission America Regional Associate in Milwaukee said
“A service was held at Miller Park with 7,000 in attendance. It was a phenomenal
experience. There was a marvelous response. We’ve heard many testimonies of
changed lives.”
In Modesto Stadium, Pastor Michael Douglass reported that 4,500 gathered for a
community-wide service, with a multi-church choir and orchestra, the high school
band, a fly-over of emergency helicopters, and a 21-gun salute for those who
died. The focus was on those who serve. A local Outback Restaurant put on a
free bar-b-que for 1500 first responders, who heard a strong message from a
military hero and a sense that the people of the city loved and appreciated
them. The church was broadly represented at the service with leaders of many
denominations in attendance.
More than 500 came to the service in Elk River, MN where just over 50 uniformed
officers from law enforcement, the fire department, emergency response and the
American Legion were honored. Twelve area churches worked together with the Elk
River Mayor to hold this event.
In the Twin Cities, there were eleven services listed in the Star Tribune. We
opened an “Honor Our Heroes” hot dog stand in the parking lot of First Covenant
Church across from the Metrodome prior to many of the sporting events between
August 11 and September 11. We handed out over 3,000 invitations to the
September 11 Honor Our Heroes Service at First Covenant. We got to know and
witness to many folks on the street in a simple but straightforward way. The
result was that about 40% of those who attended the service on September 11 were
visitors. It’s my prayer that First Covenant Church will see these folks again
and that Christ’s kingdom will grow as a result of a hot dog stand for God!
Leading the Mission America City/Community Division with Jarvis Ward is a great
joy as we see God’s hand blessing the work in so many ways, bringing leaders
together for prayerful strategizing, meeting the needs of the poor, and reaching
out with the good news of the Gospel.
Our Minneapolis Office is in immediate need of 150 ministry partners to come
alongside the vision of uniting Christians for holistic evangelism in this
God-led movement transforming our nation with a $100 to $1,000 tax-deductible
gift. Would you prayerfully consider being one of these partners? If you
cannot, please consider making the largest one-time gift you can and joining the
monthly support team, thereby helping us strengthen this transformational
movement in cities and communities across our nation.
Thank-you for your prayerful consideration,
Rev. Glenn A. Barth, National Facilitator for City/Community Ministries

--->NPPNote:
We were unable to post this before the events mentioned took place. Look for a
final report in a future edition.
In the fall of 2002, Chip Sweney - Director of Community Outreach of Perimeter
Church in the Northeast area of Metro Atlanta - began having monthly lunches
with similar church leaders to network, dream, strategize and build
relationships. In the spring of this year these discussions grew to a vision of
MANY churches in this sphere of influence (mostly Gwinnett and North Fulton
Counties) coming together in one weekend to GREATLY impact the community through
a number of community service projects done at one time! Perimeter had done
this on their own last year with 100's of their congregation participating!
They were influenced by the work begun in Little Rock, AR by Fellowship Bible
Church, the church of "irresistible influence!"
Meanwhile, God was bringing together several different streams of churches and
ministries, including the Norcross Ministers & Leaders Coalition, Gwinnett
Ministries Network, Georgia Strategic Prayer Network, and UniteAtlanta. A team
came together of some who are veteran networkers and community ministry workers,
as well as some who are NEW to the whole process.... Two KEY churches:
Perimeter (mostly white, PCA) and Hopewell Baptist (mostly black) committed
serious resources and leadership to the project, and Chip Sweney was chosen to
be the overall Director. Several key Hispanic and Korean churches and one
TOTALLY international church came on board, as well as many traditional suburban
churches. There are about 30 - Baptist, United Methodist, Presbyterian,
Alliance, and independent non-denominational churches committed.
We've had MANY meetings of our individual teams (Compassion In action, Heaven On
Earth, Communications, and so on) as well as the Leadership Team. The TWO big
weekends are finally upon us! Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October
5 will be our "Compassion In Action" weekend. Most of the
participating churches are sponsoring community service projects, in which
they're inviting members of ALL the churches to participate! Our web site,
www.UniteUs.org, now
lists over 100 different projects, such as home repairs for elderly,
Servant Evangelism in downtown Norcross, collecting food for our local
Cooperative Ministries, nursing home and hospice visitation, apartment complex
block parties and other ministry, building friendships with refugees, and MANY
others! We expect 1000's of people to serve - and BE served! Our local
agency and government leaders suggested that the biggest needs in our area which
could be addressed with these types of projects were: children in public
schools (esp. non-English speakers), immigrants (of which there is a HUGE
population), and food for our local Cooperative Ministries.
On Sunday evening, October 12, we're planning a BIG celebration of what
God has done among us at our Gwinnett Arena at which we expect at least 6,000
people! It's a new sports and concert facility which will seat 1000's more than
that! We're calling it "Heaven On Earth," because we expect it to be
like that! We'll have a mass choir, banners from many countries, praise
dancers, a combined band and more.... Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue will
attend, as well as many other local political and community leaders. We'll have
a special time of prayer and blessing for them and for teachers,
police officers and fire fighters. AND - we'll show a video composite of some
of the projects done the previous weekend. We'll take an offering that will be
distributed among three local organizations which make major contributions to
children and internationals. We'll recognize the leaders of these groups. No
money collected that evening will go to "Unite!" expenses.
The overall goal of "Unite!" is "to serve and meet needs within the
community so that our light shines together in such a way that people may
see our good works and glorify our Father who is in Heaven." (from Matthew
5:16) The decision was made early on NOT to ask participating churches for
money for this endeavor, but to go to foundations and businesses for funding.
Several churches HAVE made contributions, however. At least for this first
year, we want the emphasis to be on churches SERVING together.
We expect the "Unite!" movement to grow and continue year round as churches work
together on OTHER significant community needs. Some in the works now which will
probably have a strong "Unite!" connection are: the International Reconciliation
Networks of Our World Conference here in Norcross (see
www.reconciliationnetworks.org, MarriageNet - marriage-strengthening network
among local churches, Released Time Christian Education - Bible study as an
elective for public high school students, mentoring of school children & other
crime prevention efforts, Gwinnett County Strategic Prayer Network, and probably
some others....!
We praise God for what He's doing among us as an answer to the prayer and
heart's desire of many of us over the years! Thank you for allowing us to share
some of our excitement! Please stay tuned for MORE of the story...!
Blessings, Jan Kennedy

The reports of many See You at the Pole(tm) gatherings are very similar. Many
of the stories sent to the SYATP website on or after September 17 described
worship, reading from the Bible, a student speaking to the group, and prayer, of
course: in small groups, en masse, or holding hands in a big circle around a
school flagpole.
But then there are those accounts of students who marched to the beat of a
different drummer, or stood out in some other way as "not your typical prayer
meeting."
Boldness
At Northrup High School in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, the students circled the
flagpole, but chose to face out and pray aloud. Their boldness didn't stop
there. As time for classes approached, several members of the group moved from
the circle and began to approach and pray with the lost. More than 15 accepted
Christ before the first bell!
Before Dawn
Two dozen junior and senior high students in Youngsville, Pennsylvania
had a "Jericho candlelight prayer walk" around the campus, starting early in the
morning. The students prayed around the flagpole, then
moved inside and walked around the halls seven times, praying and singing. They
also asked the adults to meet at the town's post office to pray. In Maize,
Kansas, five guys and a girl that were the worship
leaders set the example by arriving at 5:00 a.m. to pray. They were joined by 70
others at See You at the Pole.
Homeschoolers
Kelli, a junior in Nineveh, Indiana, invited other homeschooled students to pray
at the flag in her front yard. A church in Poway, California organized a
prayer time at the school district office. In Barre,
Vermont, a half-dozen homeschoolers met at the town's auditorium, hoping to
begin "a strong annual tradition."
Never Too Late
A freshman girl at New Jersey City University in Jersey City, New Jersey
told a youth leader "she regretted never having done SYATP in high school, so
she did it at college-even though she stood alone."
From the Ashes
At Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, New York, 16 students prayed.
Stuyvesant was prominent on September 11, 2001 as the school closest to the
World Trade Center; students were evacuated after watching the burning towers
out their classroom windows.
All Creatures of Our God and king...
Fifteen students at Jordan Vocational High School in Columbus, Georgia
were worshipping and praying, when one of them noticed a large insect resting at
the base of the flagpole.
Sure enough...it was a praying mantis!
In support of the students meeting at their various schools in St. Paul,
Minnesota, 35 St. Paul area pastors met in the City Center and held a "See
You at the Center."
The next See You at the Pole will be September 15, 2004. The theme, taken from
Psalm 24:3-6, will be "ASCEND: Clean Hands and Pure Hearts." Watch for updates
at www.syatp.com early in 2004 for more information, logos, and resources.
Tell your See You at the Pole story!

Also, take the time to adopt your school for Christ at www.everyschool.com.
See You at the Pole Perspectives 2003 is four weekly reports, posted at

The brochure for these Christ Roundtables is available on the NPPN website.

http://www.nppn.org
Those of you who were at our NPC meetings in D.C. in May heard me talk a little
about the major focus of the newly formed PROCLAIM HOPE! Formerly "Concerts of
Prayer International", we have retooled our mission to focus on "proclaiming the
full extent of Christ's supremacy and empowering others to do the same"--all of
it focused on a national Christ-awakening (which is the ultimate answer to the
cries of the modern prayer movement).
One facet of our new thrust are what we call "Christ Roundtables" and "Living
Room Tours". On October 28,29,30 a full-blown prototype of this will take place
in greater Seattle, under the facilitation of NPC member Steve Hall. Clearly
the Spirit of the Lord has breathed much life into this effort (I was out there
for a preparatory visit in early September).
Because I believe this "Seattle scenario" (as I call it) holds great potential
for many regions of the country, I've attached a file with this email so you can
download to read the fantastic brochure that Steve and his team produced. It
spells out this approach quite clearly, and suggests what could happen in ANY
region. It is my utter conviction that in the next couple of years great
numbers of prayer leaders across our land will expand their "portfolios" to
include being "Messengers of Hope" along with trainers in prayer.
Two final thoughts on what this could mean for you:
1) If you have constituency in the Pacific Northwest that should be
encouraged to attend one of these "Christ Roundtables" by all means feel free to
forward this brochure file to them to let them know about it. Obviously that
would only take a few moments to do. Also, contact Steve Hall with any of your
questions.
2) If you think this might be an approach to impact the prayer movement
where YOU live, I would be happy to explore working with you to develop such a
tour there. Please contact me and let's start the conversation!
CHRIST IS ALL!
