*    PASTOR PHIL'S SCHEDULE

During an intense prayer time with the National Prayer Committee, the Lord spoke to me about the need for our generation to cast a prayed-for-planet vision ot the upcoming generation.  He led me to identify this request for prayer: That the Lord would begin to give me opportunities to speak on prayer to Pastors in training, so that, when they assume leadership in a congregation they understand how a prayer driven congregation looks and works.  If the Spirit leads you, please join me in this petition.

I would also welcome prayer for any of these meetings in June:

*    PPG CONVERSATION STARTER

1. Print out the following quote for your Pastors' Prayer Group.
2. Facilitate a brief conversation using the "What?" (information); what does this say / what do you think), "So What?" (implications to our situations) and "Now What?" (implementation; what can we do ... even together) question sequence.
3. Move into prayer, using the previous conversation as a focus.

“The nation seems mired in spiritual complacency.
American certainly did not experience the spiritual revival that m any Christians hoped would emerge as the new millennium began.  In fact, Americans seemed to have become inoculated to spiritual events, outreach efforts and the quest for personal spiritual development.
Overall, Christian ministry is stuck in a deep rut.
Our research continues to point out the need for more urgent reliance upon God to change people’s lives.  Too many Christians and churches in America have traded in spiritual passion for empty rituals, clever methods and mindless practices.
The challenges to today’s Church is not methodological. Ut us the challenge to resuscitate the spiritual passion and fervor of the nation’s Christians.”
   George Barna (Reported in 2000)

2.    LONG ISLAND: 80 CHURCHES IN THE NETWORK

>From: BrianJConsidine@cs.com

In an effort to connect the churches of Long Island in a meaningful yet simple way, we have recently established a group email network using the InJesus.com website.

InJesus.com is a free resource for the Christian community. InJesus provides a free web service that makes communication easy for Christian ministries.  Ministry Groups on InJesus keep their members informed and involved using simple, powerful tools like: e-mail group management, message archives on your site, and a place in their searchable directory.

Currently there are over 80 churches involved in the Long Island network, each having the ability to post messages and share information with the other churches on the network. This network is a practical efficient means of keeping the churches connected.  It is a seamless invisible network that requires nothing more of the churches than an email address. All of the feedback to date has been tremendously positive. As pastors learn about the network they are asking how come they haven't heard about this before.

You can learn about our network at:
    http://LongIslandPastors.injesus.com

Some of things the network has been used for are:
Churches having staffing needs have sought help within the local community very quickly
Churches having events have promoted them through the networks
Pastor groups meeting throughout the Island have used the network to connect
Advertising for the National Day of Prayer
    Publishing a new monthly e-newsletter

An email group at InJeus.com is very easy to establish. I do have some startup documentation which I can forward as an (doc) attachment to anyone interested by sending an email to COPLI@cs.com

Also, please take a look at our new web-site (a work in progress)

3.    CONFERENCE CALL: “FROM HUMBUG TO HALLELUJAH”

>From: Randall Mains <info@teamsundays.org>

Dr. David R. Mains and Mainstay Ministries would like to invite you to attend a nationwide "live" teleconference call on Friday June 21 and Wednesday June 26. Both calls are at 10:30am-11:30am central time; call  407-318-2776.

where we will be highlighting the many exciting features and benefits of our fresh, new Christmas preaching series, "From Humbug to Hallelujah!"

You'll receive a FREE Christmas Sermon and Creative Scripture Reading by e-mail just for joining Mainstay on this telephone presentation.  To participate, simply call (407) 318-2776. The only cost to you will be your long-distance charges (estimated at $5) and the hour of your time on the phone. The benefit to you is that you can preview a fresh and exciting series that may be just what God wants you and your congregation to use this Christmas.

"From Humbug to Hallelujah!" is a creative, new biblical preaching series that uses key illustrations from Charles Dickens' classic tale "A Christmas Carol." The power of this coming December series of sermons is that it proclaims that the transformation seen in the life of Scrooge in Dickens' story can be the real experience for people in your church, thanks to the power of Immanuel, God with us!

The "live" teleconference call, hosted by Dr. David R. Mains and Mainstay staff, will unveil this new series and its Pastor's Manual for you over the phone. You'll be introduced to many highlights of "From Humbug to Hallelujah!" including its extensive preaching resources and creative service helps. These are the seven messages we'll unpack in this one-of-a-kind December series.

The journey from humbug to hallelujah involves:
* Preparing for a Christmas You'll Never Regret (sermon for 11-24-02)
* Breaking Christmas Chains Forged in Life (sermon for 12-1-02)
* Reawakening the Joy Inherent in Christmas (sermon for 12-8-02)
* Valuing Relationships Especially at Christmas (sermon for 12-15-02)
* Writing a Good Ending to Your Christmas Carol (sermon for 12-22-02)
* Celebrating a Christmas of Miracle Transformations (Christmas Eve/Day message)
* Honoring Christmas in Your Heart All Year Long (sermon for 12-29-02)

PLUS, we'll e-mail you one of the sermon manuscripts for FREE when the call is over.

One special feature of the call will be to hear an audio clip from the acclaimed Hallmark movie edition (1999) of "A Christmas Carol" with Patrick Stewart. You'll learn how you can use video clips from this movie to illustrate the point of your sermons.

Another special feature includes the "live" presentation of a Creative Scripture Reading from the Pastor's Manual for "Humbug." You'll get a "firsthand" perspective of how powerful these readings can be in your church as you hear one presented over the phone.

We'll also e-mail you this Scripture Reading for FREE at the end of the call.

Finally, since the call is "live," there will be time for your personal questions.

To receive more information on this biblically based December preaching resource, please call Mainstay at 1-800-224-2735, visit  http://teamsundays.org/advent2002.

4.    MARCH FOR JESUS LEGAL UPDATE

>From: "Crosswalk.com"
>Reply-To: "Religion Today Summaries" <newssummaries.UM.A.3.32309@lists.crosswalk.com>
March for Jesus will go Forward in Arizona after Legal Dispute **

Alice Benson, the organizer of the March for Jesus in Douglas, Ariz., would not be denied the same access to public property as other parade leaders. When the city officials told her the March for Jesus (MFJ) would not be able to use the streets of Douglas as other parades do - Cinco de Mayo, Christmas, and the Fourth of July parades, for instance - she turned to the Alliance Defense Fund. "I believe as Christians, we cannot be afraid to go public and fight for our rights," Benson said. "If we continue doing nothing, we're going to lose all our rights."

The city told Benson on April 19 that the march could use its usual parade route, but because of "staffing constraints," there would be no traffic control for the march. According to Michael J. Ortega, the Douglas city manager, marchers could only use the sidewalks. The Alliance Defense Fund sent a demand letter to the city, explaining the court precedents supporting Benson's request.  A few days later, Ortega reversed himself and said that the march could be held on the requested parade route. Now, the march will go forward on May 18, 2002, as originally hoped.

Benjamin W. Bull, chief counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund, said the city's response demonstrates the continuing need for people of faith to stand up for their legal rights.

5.    KARITOS: RECOVERING THE ARTS IN OUR WORSHIP

>From: Bob Hay <bob@karitos.com>

Conference Will Help Churches Grow in Worship and the Arts

The Karitos Christian Arts Festival, now in its eight year, continues to fulfill a unique role in the Body of Christ.  That of providing an affordable conference for those desirous of knowing what God is doing in the creative arts and how those arts fit into the ministry of the local church.

This year’s event - part festival, part conference  - will be held June 6-8 at All Nations Community Church in Homewood, IL (just south of Chicago).  Nearly 50 instructors from across the U.S. and Canada will lead over 100 hours of workshops.  Tracks include music and worship, drama and mime, visual arts, literary arts, movement, and new this year, sound and media production.

A unique feature of the conference is the integration of the arts into the worship sessions that take place each morning and evening.  Sculptor Sam Gore, chalk artist Richard Hight, Native American painter Jacob Treviso, and mime artists Marshall and Julie Levin are just a few of the presenters that will share during those sessions.

Other featured presenters include Christian filmmaker Tim Mahoney, author/teacher Bob Sorge, Native American teacher/evangelist Richard Twiss, and actor Alan Atwood.

7.    BIRMINGHAM PASTORS LEAD CITY PRAYER EMPHASIS

>From: "Mission Birmingham" <kmoore@newcitycenter.org>

The face of Birmingham, Alabama is changing! God is transforming us to a prayed-for, united city focused on seeing the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ transform us.

Birmingham, through the city-reaching efforts of Mission Birmingham and many intercessors in our community, has been in a 40-day period of prayer for our
community through the Lent season. The pastors of Mission Birmingham have encouraged the use of the wonderful 40-day Prayer Guide for Spiritual Awakening, "Seek God for the City 2002" (available through www.waymakers.org). Over 3600 Prayer Guides were distributed through 40 different ministries before the 40-day prayer emphasis began.

On Sunday evening, March 10, the pastors of Mission Birmingham called the city together for our first community-wide "Seek God for the City Prayer Rally". Approximately 1200 Christians attended this celebrative evening in Birmingham's Civic Center Concert Hall. Joyful praise, humbling worship and intense intercession led by the pastors of the city brought the denominationally and racially mixed audience to oneness around the throne.

Please continue to pray that God will transform Birmingham, Alabama and rejoice with us in His goodness and guidance to this point. Soli Deo Gloria!

May God bless Birmingham with His presence!

8.    NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER LAUNCHES PRAYERITHON

>From: Delilah Clark <cwimcorp@earthlink.net>
>Southern California National Day of Prayer Coordinator

"THE GREAT AMERITHON"  A run across America.
Launched from Santa Monica, California on the National Day of Prayer, May 2, 2002

It is about helping to restore America as one nation under God

The objective is to run the breadth of America to rally people to prayer and deliver a message of solidarity and hope.

The Great Amerithon began on May 2, 2002, in Santa Monica, California and will cover the full length of historic Route 66, on to Washington, D.C., up to New York City, and then finish in Maine.  Special celebrations are planned for each community and stop along the way.

Kenn Kemper is blessed with the stamina and ability to run.  He will set the pace for running and rallying people to take a stand for their faith.

For almost two years Kenn has prepared for this opportunity to capture the attention of America.  He is a great grandfather, a former Marine, and has a deep felt desire to help our younger generations understand how important our Christian heritage really is.  He trusts that his example and leadership will encourage others to reach beyond themselves and carry this message to the hearts of people across America.

+ Highlights include:

1.  A fun and historically significant activity for individuals, every member of the family and groups as Kenn passes through your community.  Everyone is welcome to participate.

2.  No entry fee - You may run with Kenn a few blocks, cheer him on, or join with others to run across your town, your state, or more.

3.  Runner's hot dog and apple pie feasts at every stop.

4.  An opportunity to send a personal note or add your signature to the message being hand delivered to President Bush.

5.  Celebrations. with praise music, celebrity guest, local pastors and ministry recognition awards and personal ministry.

+ What is the message Kenn Kemper wants to bring to the people and leaders of America?  "America's Christian heritage is important!"  Recently we have seen a surge of patriotism and focus on God's blessings on our people...some are beginning to say it is beginning to drain. Kenn will bring grass roots message from the people of America to the President.  That message is that we are one nation under God and because of that we are stronger than ever!"

+ The Great Amerithon has the potential to capture the attention of a nation that is looking for some degree of closure in a difficult time of trouble and uncertainty.  There are tremendous opportunities for media, especially radio, to use the Great Amerithon to engage their audience and build interest both on a local and national level.  Daily update, inspirational stories, and tremendous good will are just some of the benefits for being part of the Amerithon team.

Please forward this message to as many interested parties as you know.
Media and sponsor support is critical to the success of the message of the Great Amerithon.  For further information, schedule of cities and towns, and community details, please contact Steve Brown at (602) 738-0809. Slow down.  Your life has become a blur.  Things are moving too fast.  The things you concern yourself with are important but resting, being quiet and being with me is more important.  Even at night you head is spinning.  You cannot turn off your thinking.  I say unto you peace, deep peace of knowing that I am Lord of all things.  Come away.  Let your heart be not troubled.  Believe in me and not the systems of the day.  Slow down.

10.    LEADERSHIP AND PRAYER CONNECTIONS

>From: Marc van der Woude <MarcvanderWoude@XC.Org>

SERVANT LEADER CONSULTATION - International Renewal Ministries is calling all city reachers together for a Servant Leader Consultation, June 10-13, 2002. Their desire is to hear what the Lord is saying to various citywide servant leader teams, to share experiences, discuss best practices and more.
Link: http://www.multnomah.edu/IRM/about.shtml

PRAYING LIKE A LEADER - God is not looking for better methods, machinery and motivations. He is looking for better people, leaders who are men and women of God. Rick Warren shares four secrets to praying like a leader: base your request on God's character; confess the sin in your life; claim the promises God made to you; be very specific in what you ask for.  Link: http://makeashorterlink.com/?N2E15068

SMART LEADERSHIP - Smart leaders extend their influence by gaining and holding the attention of those around them. Former Saddleback Pastor Nelson Searcy says no one is influenced by what they ignore...  Link: http://makeashorterlink.com/?D3EC5248

ACCOUNTABILITY - Christians should develop healthy accountability relationships with others, says Jon Walker in this excellent article. He gives four suggestions: you need to be open and authentic; you need to hear a Godly perspective; you need a trustworthy partner; you need to be consistent.  Link: http://makeashorterlink.com/?K23D6348

LIFE-LONG LEARNING - "An effective leader is a lifelong learner," says Dave Kraft in this article. "He or she learns at all times, under all circumstances, from all sorts of people. To stay relevant in our leadership and to know what is going on with the people we lead, we need to be constantly learning, growing, stretching, getting out of our comfort zones, reading new things, trying new things."  Link: http://makeashorterlink.com/?D2133168

PREVENTING LEADER DERAILMENT - How to support and enable your leadership to succeed? Malcolm Webber noticed three common weaknesses of derailed leaders: they have difficulties in selecting and building a team; they have difficulties in transitioning from the technical level to the strategic level; they don't offer proper follow-through. He also lists trait differences between successful and derailed leaders, and offers 8 steps toward success. An excellent resource for everyone who is training leaders, either in the Church or the secular world. OPERATION WORLD FOR YOUTH - 24-7 published a web friendly, youth friendly version of Patrick Johnstone's prayer manual 'Operation World'. Check out
the first 50 countries (including Europe)!   Link: http://www.24-7prayer.com/ow

58 DAYS OF FOCUSED PRAYER - American prayer leader Chuck Pierce announced a period of 58 days of focused prayer and fasting for breakthrough. "As I was seeking the Lord at the beginning of the year, the Lord spoke these words to me: There is coming a 58 day intense period of prayer and fasting for My Body. This period will be your shifting time for the season of revival that is now upon you. This will be a period of removal. This will be a period of restoration. This will be a period of preparing the way and setting the course for the future." The key passage for these 58 days is Isaiah 58.

PASTORS & INTERCESSORS - "Do you know of churches where the partnership between pastors and intercessors really functions well and on a mature level?" we asked the readers of the National Pastors Prayer Network in the USA. Eddie Smith responded with a clear "yes" and briefly explored possible partnerships between pastors and intercessors. We would welcome your insights as well. PRAY FOR THE ARAB WORLD - Arab Vision is looking for people who want to seriously pray for the effect of Christian media on the Arab World. Since 11 September the number of Arab Muslims responding to broadcasts of video programs of Arab Vision, the main independent producer of Christian television programs for the Arab World, has grown dramatically. Have a look at http://www.arabvision.org for testimonies of Arabs watching these programs (millions every week). Arab Vision needs your prayer support. 11.    A PRAYER FURNACE IN CHICAGO

>From: Marvsaljam@aol.com

Phil, just to inform those within the city of Chicago of a few upcoming things surrounding the Chicagoland prayer movement and its many streams:

The City International House Of Prayer is a 24/7/365 multi-denominational, citywide, intercessory and worship ministry and is hosting a meeting for all interested pastors/ministry leaders who would like more information on how they and their congregations/ministries can become involved in this movement that is embracing radical devotion, day and night prayer and worship, fasting, crying out for revival and promoting unity among the 5000+ churches of Chicagoland.

The City IHOP mainly uses the "harp and bowl" prayer model from Rev.5:8, combining intercession with worship and the spoken Word of God, creating an environment of joy and devotion in which to sit at the feet of Jesus.  We feel a theological conviction that true Revival will not break out in our midst until the churches of the city unite under the priestly ministry of day and night worship and intercession to their beloved King.  As a multi-church effort, we are asking churches to take part as we seek to build a "corporate altar" in which we may stand before Jesus, unified and strengthened in our unyielding love for the worthy Son of Man.

Our immediate goal is to lease/purchase a building that will house City IHOP and that it will be a prayer furnace on behalf of this city where the fire on the altar will not go out until the return of Jesus.

For a list of currently scheduled intercessory meetings, call 773-267-9275.

For the Lamb, Marvin D. Adams, Pastor; River Community Church; Director; City International House of Prayer

12.    HAVERHILL, MS: PASTORS’ PRAYER GROUP HIT 20

>From: Charles Barton <cdhb2@juno.com>

Here in the Greater Haverhill (Massachusetts) area we are seeking citywide unity among God's people. We have a Pastor's Prayer meeting which has been in existence for 20 years or so. One congregation opened up their annual Men's retreat to all churches about five years ago. Since then unity has been developing and an organization called "Common Ground has been formed with a fairly loose structure. Many of us want to move in the direction indicated in e-zine #45. About 9 months ago, three of four Pastors attending the Pastor's Prayer group were given the same Scripture (Ephesians 4.1-16). Since then we have been praying that God would lead us into what He intends for us. We would welcome insights from others who are moving in this direction on a citywide dimension.

13.    HOUSTON, TX: 1500 AT CITYWIDE PRAYER GATHERING

>From: Jim Herrington <jhmh@swbell.net>

On April 11 believers from across the city gathered again - approximately 1500 strong according to our hosts at First Baptist - to seek the face of God.  In spite of an amazing array of technical difficulties, it as a great evening.  Each gathering seems to have a different character.  Last night the overarching theme was humility.

A Summary
Pastor David Self of Houston's First Baptist, admonished the gathered assembly to confess our pride and acknowledge that we can not bring transformation.  Across the room people dropped to their knees to pray.  Pastor Dorothy Washington of Good News Fellowship prayed a prayer of repentance.  As the evening continued Steve Capper, Rector of Church of the Redeemer asked each person to "think of some part of the Body of Christ about whom you have had doubts about  their doctrine or about their style of worship."  Then he asked us to shout out loud, "Lord, bring them."  A chorus of corporate prayers were lifted up.  Then Pastor Steve Riggle of Grace Community Church asked us to return to our knees and acknowledge our desperation for God to move in our city.  Obviously moved by what he was experiencing, Steve said, "When He comes, I don't care if it looks like the Methodist tradition or the Assemblies tradition, or the Baptist tradition - I just want to be there."   In quiet reflection the assembly sat, allowing the Spirit to convict, teach, and encourage.

Finally, we commissioned Ann Joe.  Ann is a faithful, humble servant to the Body here in Houston.  As director of the Perspectives courses she has been a major networker of missions organizations in the city.  We acknowledged that if the church in the city is going to function in unity, God will raise up a plurality of leaders with humble servant hearts.  Ann epitomizes this spirit, and she has responded to a call to leave Houston as a city reaching missionary to an unreached people group in Asia.  We gathered around Ann and prayed for her.

My Learning
There is much work to be done for the body of Christ in the Greater Houston area to function in unity.  These prayer gatherings are one very significant part of what God is doing to unite us.  The gatherings are not just events - they are part of a much larger process.  And as we give up our personal agendas in order to come together, He is fashioning each event to provide for the Body what it needs.  Pray for God to birth in more and more people a hunger and thirst for unity and prayer, and ask him to supernaturally connect those across the city who have this hunger.

Though the crowd was large, it represented a miniscule part of the Body in the Greater Houston area.  If coming together in unity to seek God's face matters, we still have much to learn about communication and implementation.  The group was more ethnically diverse last night than any previous gathering, and yet, we have so much work to do in that arena.  Pray for a flexible spirit that will not just keep doing what we've been doing but will listen to God's direction and obey it as He orchestrates the unity of His body.

Accepting failure as a natural part of learning is crucial.  The evening was not a failure - it was a tremendous success.  But, it was not/is not yet what we believe God wants it to be.  We made some adjustments last night from the previous experiences.  We'll make more adjustments in the days ahead.  Pray for a continued spirit of learning among those who lead.

The next city wide prayer gathering is scheduled for September 12, 2002.  Between now and then much work is being done at the regional or community level.  For more information about what is happening in your part of the city, go to our web page http://www.missionhouston.org for a list of community catalyst who are serving in the city.  Contact the one in your area for information, and please continue to pray for God to bring a deep hunger and thirst to His Body for unity, prayer, and transformation.  Blessings, Jim Herrington

14.    WINSTON-SALEM & SPARTANBURG:
GREAT MEETINGS OF PASTORS AND INTERCESSORS

>From: Gene Brooks <gbrooks@missioncarolina.org>

Mission Carolina is in the midst of a Regional Vision-Casting Tour.  We are meeting with small groups of prayer people and pastors across both North and South Carolina to communicate the vision of twenty-four hour prayer and service to the very real prayer movement in Carolina.

SPARTANBURG, SC
The Spartanburg Pastors Meeting hosted by local attorney Art McQueen was nothing  short of excellent. Art had an unprecedented 65 pastors there, about 90 total attendance.  The pastors of the largest Southern Baptist, largest National Baptist, and largest charismatic churches in SC were there.  Bob Lowman of the Metrolina Prayer Network (http://www.metrolinaprayer.net)  talked about the Great Carolina Revival Bicentennial and the Great Revival that came to Spartanburg in 1802.

Mary Lance Sisk, Chairman of the Lighthouse National Facilitation Council, presented the vision of the Lighthouse Movement.  The Jesus Video of SC team let the pastors know that their vision, though delayed, is still moving forward.  Gene Brooks communicated the Mission Carolina vision.  It was all staccato, full of vision and prayer, and powerful.  Art presented 9/11 Remembrance and Lighthouse Movement materials.  Ironically, a well-known restaurant called "The Beacon" provided breakfast.

WINSTON-SALEM
The Mission Carolina Regional Meeting in Winston-Salem was really good.  We had triple the people we expected:  forty-four.  Ardmore Moravian Church was an excellent host.  The crowd was easy-going. Mary Lance's presentation was just awesome.  I communicated the vision of Mission Carolina to the enthusiastic prayer warriors there.

PrayMOORE Event
>From: "David Pratt" <davidpratt77@earthlink.net>

The gates of a city in biblical times were the place where legal business, conversation, bargaining and news took place.  Being the weakest points in a city's wall, the gates were frequently the object of an enemy's attack. To possess the gates of a city was to possess the city,  Nehemiah 2:3.

Join PrayMOORE County, People of Prayer, as we unite in intercession for the gates of Moore County.

Prayer stations: Spiritual Leadership, Local Government, Schools, Business & Economics, The Family, The Military (Fort Bragg) and National Government, Nations, Evangelism.

Dear Phil ~ To God be the glory for the PRAYER DRIVEN CHURCH!  I have waited a life  time to see an article like this.  May we now go beyond just the reading to the doing, the actual praying.  I have found that Jesus hardly ever (never?) gives us a teaching apart from the doing.  God give us prayer driven  churches.  love you brother and praying for you and this vital ministry of communication- bob yawberg / Phil. 1:3, 6

Phil -- PPG's are obviously one of the BIG keys to what God is doing and will do in the  revival to come.  What a great passion, Phil!
Please stay passionate--or raise up someone who will if the Lord moves you on.  We need this so badly, Bob

>From: <Rick.Johnson@co.hennepin.mn.us>
>To: <info@lighthousemovement.com>

I am thankful for your ministry and encouraged to hear about the work you are doing and by the experiences of people who are seeing the hand of God moving in their neighborhoods and churches.  It is an exciting time in which we are living. I think it is good for pastors to join with other pastors to pray together and to seek council.   War is won in the council of many, and the battle in which we are engaged is the fiercest and the most crucial, but also the most exciting, because of who is leading us.

I am concerned, however, about the PPG's, because the scripture teaches that the spiritual leadership of the church is to made up of a plurality of elders, not a single pastor, which is often the case.  Often, when there are elders, their responsibilities are for the physical, not the spiritual aspects of the church.  What I would like to suggest is that you use your influence to encourage pastors to find godly men and women in the local church with whom they can meet on a regular basis to pray and to share openly in confidentiality.  The church I meet with, which has about 150 people and growing, praise the Lord, has 5 elders, none of whom are paid, who meet every other week (and other times as necessary) to pray and discuss the spiritual needs of the church body.  We have many other spiritually mature men and women in the church who share in the nurturing and teaching of the saints, and we have deacons who oversee the physical needs, such as the finances and the building in which we meet.

I believe that there was a definite purpose for the early church design, which is to involve as many people as possible in the ministry of the church which in turn causes rapid spiritual growth which results in a more mature body of believers. Like I said, I think it is good for pastors to network with each other, but it is also very advantageous to work within the local church to reproduce leaders by giving saints opportunities to exercise their spiritual gifts.  May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Father of Glory give you peace and joy in believing.

Your brother in Christ, Rick Johnson

19.     CHICAGO: HOPE FOR THE HOOD

>From: Rsmarder6@aol.com [mailto:Rsmarder6@aol.com]

I just spoke with Pastor Gerald Smith, Asst. pastor of New Hope Bible Church in Humboldt Park.  New Hope is planning a 9 day evangelism outreach July 6-14 from 7-9 pm. They are setting up a 1000 person tent. They are expecting to have 400-600 students/youth leaders coming from out of town churches to minister at this outreach.

Here's where you come in.  New Hope will be setting up an on-site prayer area where  50 - 100 rotating students will be coming in to pray for the outreach each night.  They need prayer leaders for each night - people who can equip and lead the students in a concert of prayer (or) however the Holy Spirit is moving this group to pray (prayerwalking?  prayer evangelism?)

What an opportunity!  Please let me know if you (or anyone you know) are hearing the call to minister here.  One or two days?  Leaders partnering together?  The whole 9 yards?  Let's do this, Susanne

For more information, or to sign up, call Pastor Gerald Smith:  773-394-2860

Invest in 9 life- changing days this summer, Giving Hope to the Hopeless and Help for the Hurting

Hope for the ‘Hood  is a nine day outreach event that will reach thousands of people in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood with the saving message of Jesus Christ.  It will center around a 1,000 seat tent that will be erected in the parking lot of the Von Humboldt grade school in the heart of Humboldt Park. 600 high school students and youth leaders from across the U.S. to will come to Chicago to participate in the outreach.

The students and their youth leaders will stay in the dormitories of Moody Bible Institute <http://www.moody.edu/>   and spend their days in the Humboldt Park neighborhood conducting a number of outreach activities designed to reach people with the gospel and bring them to evangelistic services in the tent each night. .

As part of the outreach, each participant will receive 10 hours of training in urban culture and the most effective ways to reach inner-city people with the life-changing, hope giving message of salvation through Jesus Christ.
