2.         TEN REASONS WHY NETWORKING IS IMPORTANT

>From:  Bryan Knell, Church Relations Director,

Global Connections/UK (Formerly: Evangelical Missions Fellowship)

IT SHOWS APPRECIATION

1.   Networking is a demonstration of unity in the body of Christ. (John 17:20-23)

2.   Networking often reduces a spirit of competition and encourages a spirit of sharing. (1 Corinthians 1:12-13; Colossians 4:16)

3.   Networking encourages accountability to those who share the same vision and understand the constraints. (Luke 19:12-27)

IT PROTECTS ATTITUDES

4.   Networking encourages humility in larger organizations when they acknowledge that they do not have all the answers but can learn from others. (1 Corinthians 4:6-7, 18)

5.   Networking helps smaller organizations to feel they are making a contribution beyond their own limited resources. (1 Corinthians 12:21-25)

IT IMPROVES EFFECTIVENESS

6.   Networking recognizes that we live in a complicated world and that only by working together and sharing our combined, God-given wisdom and resources, will we accomplish the task. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)

7.   Networking allows us to brainstorm together, share varying approaches, evaluate different strategies, learn from the mistakes and successes of others and provide some benchmarking for future activity. (Proverbs 13:10)

8.   Networking often encourages greater stewardship and efficiency by joining together to share facilities, reducing duplication and limiting waste. It can lead to considerations of merger. (Titus 3:14)

IT DEMONSTRATES FELLOWSHIP

9.   Networking helps support and lift up those who are struggling in the task. (Isaiah 35:1-4)

10. Networking frees us to rejoice in success from wherever it originates.

(Phil. 1:12-14)

3.         ONE REASON WHY NETWORKING DOESN’T WORK...

“I just wanted you to know that I have tried to contact many of the email addresses of pastors on your list in the Washington DC area.. meaning PA, VA, NY, DE, etc.  At least half of them came back as not valid email addresses.  I thought you might want to know to call them and ask them to update their email addresses.  Otherwise it is difficult to work with them via the internet!”

--->NPPNote: Please take the 2-3 minutes it would cost you to review or

revise your listing on the NPPN Pastors’ Prayer Group directory (you may

revise by adding a new listing with corrected information; the outdated

entry will be removed by our Tech Support) ... Or, take this time to add

the time and place of your PPG meeting on the National Day of Prayer:

4.         YOUTH NETWORKS: ON THE GROWING EDGE

>From: TAKE5@youthworkers.net

This has been a year of greater growth at the grassroots level than any time in Network history.  More than 735 Coordinators are now listed on the Network’s online database, which was launched in 2000, making it possible for youth workers anywhere in the world to “find a Network near them.”  There are Local Networks throughout the U.S. and Coordinators in 26 other nations.

But the goal of the Network has never been “lots of Networks.” Rather, the goal is healthy, intentional local fellowships building relationships and strategically cooperating to share the gospel with every teenager.  Toward that end, new resources, strategies, and staff have been added to support local efforts for cooperation among youth workers.

Here are a few examples for the year 2000:

·        Two “Building 21st Century Network” training conferences—in partnership with YouthFront, the Network, Challenge 2000 and the Maclellan Foundation—offered free training to more than 300 Coordinators in six “tracks.”  In October, the Native American Track launched a new Network under the NNYM umbrella.

·        Networks sponsored before- and after-See You at the Pole events to encourage well over 2 million students who gathered at more than 60% of U.S. secondary schools, and in more than 20 countries.

·        A new Coordinator Handbook—Building 21st Century Networks—was produced and also downloadable from the Network’s web site.

Coordinators from across the nation reported the exciting things that God has been doing in their midst:

Giving Birth in San Diego

San Diego Youth for Christ takes seriously their commitment to serve local churches.  A new executive director, Mike Gilson, (past Network Coordinator from Anchorage, Alaska) arrived in 2000 and assigned every YFC staff person to work alongside youth pastors in local communities.  Already, six new Local Networks have been launched this school year, with another half dozen mapped out for the near future.

Twenty Three and Counting in Miami. . .

Miami, Ohio, that is—not Florida!  Miami Valley

Coordinator Greg Trout reported that this year, they have seen the number of Outreach Clubs at area schools grow from nine in 1999-2000 to 23 now.  The Dayton area has also been “thinking local” and now has five Networks.

Youth Worker Date Night

A local restaurant owner in Port Angeles, Wash. covered the cost for a Network dinner for all area youth workers and their wives.  Coordinator John Rickenbacher said the purpose was to “express gratitude to them and talk about our ongoing freshmen outreach at our local school.”

Rural Community, No Fences

A Local Network in east Alabama has a weekly Bible Study for youth from Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, nondenominational, and other churches involved in the Network.  According to Coordinator Mike Gallien, “God is at work in the youth of our small rural area, and has broken the barriers of denominations.”

Prayer For Every Student

Curt Grice and Stephen Hammond, the Coordinators in Arlington, Texas reported that the youth workers are praying monthly through the student directories of the five main high schools in Arlington.  This effort touches 23,000 students!

Single Focus

Nina Edwards’ report from Bakersfield, California says it all: “As a Network, we have decided our focus is to reach the city for Christ.  This has dramatically made a difference in our meetings.  We aren’t about events any more. Our “DNA” is strategizing to reach every kid in our area.  We have launched a student-led, adult-coached campus ministry with the goal to train and empower students to reach their friends.”

Tear Down the Walls

The North Syracuse, New York Network has traditionally been made up of youth pastors from predominantly white, suburban churches.  But this year, says Matt Paschall, “We have seen more youth workers and volunteers from city churches begin to attend and involve themselves in our vision and planning. God is now linking up a multi-cultural movement to reach young people.

7. JOLIET, IL: PPGS & NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

>From: Mark Simpson I <msimp53@mediaone.net>

Thanks Phil for the new NPPN bulletin. Happy New Year to you!  Both pastors prayer meetings are back on-line in Joliet IL with our next Concert of Prayer taking place at Living Faith Church in the Joliet area on March 25, and of course National Day of Prayer is coming up in May.  I asked one of the hosts of these two monthly prayer gatherings, George Aja (pastor at Living Faith) to send you a personal update too.

I am also involved in a monthly Hispanic prayer gathering called AMEC (led by pastor Rodolfo Ludena of Word of God church in Melrose Park) - just attended it yesterday.

Still with you brother, Mark Simpson/River of Life

*MORE FEEDBACK - -

>From: Mark Simpson I <msimp53@mediaone.net>

This last PPG bulletin was great. There was so much to read and ponder

and enjoy. The news of Houston and Charlotte, to me, is of the real and

lasting revival that we are praying for.  I agree with Pastor Mazarella of

Milwaukee; we will have to bond together in some areas with those who are

truly born again and believe the Bible to be His Word.  My next newsletter

will probably be highlighting the PPG movement because it is important for

our nation, and the nations.  Thanks again for all you have done, Mark

Simpson

8. DALLAS, TX: PRAYER AND OUTREACH

>From: http://www.reconciliationoutreach.org

Reconciliation Outreach was founded with a desire to bring the focus of the Church to the problems of the inner city. Since we began in 1987, we have networked with a wide variety of local church congregations and pastors, as well as many para-church organizations.

This year I have been working in cooperation with Dallas Prayer Ministries and several other prayer movements in the Metroplex to bring together pastors and those who have a burden for intercession for the city, to meet monthly at the Sky Lobby on the 40th floor of the Chase Bank in downtown Dallas. The purpose of the meetings is two-fold. One is to build better relations between racial and social economic groups from the suburbs and the inner city, and the other is borne out of a genuine concern for the spiritual well-being of the City of Dallas.

Our ministry holds a city-wide event on Valentine’s weekend that features Christian ministries and churches from all over the Metroplex.  The purpose again is to draw the Church to the inner city and to provide opportunities for the Church to be visible in her community.

Reconciliation Outreach is also involved with Gov. Bush’s faith-based initiative in Texas. We worked last spring with the city council and other local ministries, including Operation Blessing, on an outreach at Fair Park that provided everything from prayer booths to Christian music, to handing out food baskets to the poor, and provided health screening and other activities for the families. This event was highly successful, well received by the city, and attended by 4000 people.

My hope for Reconciliation Outreach is to provide a visible place for the Church to reach the lost. Often the practical service and ministry we do will reach many hearts that have been hard and unwilling to accept the message of the gospel as it is presented by the traditional church.

Sixty to seventy pastors and ministry leaders will be coming together for three days to pray for “revival” in our churches, and for a “spiritual awakening” in our land. If you wish to cancel your reservation, you must do so by January 31,

10. CENTRAL PA: LOOKING FOR A PPG...

>From: “Bill Gibson” <parsonbill@penn.com>

Greetings:   I am a United Methodist pastor in Central Penna

Conference, Clearfield County on I-80, with 2 small churches.  To my

knowledge, we have no pastor and lay prayer group in this area, but I am

new here, (only 6 months) and have not had opportunity to become aware of

all that happens. Would appreciate any info you have about this network of

prayer, and any group which meets in this area.  I live about 15 miles

from Clearfield PA, and an hours drive from State College PA.  Thank you

for your help. Pastor Bill Gibson

--->NPPNote: Bill, We hope someone nearby will contact you as they read this posting - but - you may also check out the NPPN Pastors’ Prayer Group Directory for a nearby gathering. 11. UNITE ATLANTA

>From: Randy Haviland,  uniteatlanta@email.com

Earlier this year, in February and March there were a series of meetings at the Salvation Army Worship Center where we met in praise, worship, confession and repentance. God met us powerfully as we focused on the condition of the Church and the City of Atlanta. While in these assemblies, we asked ourselves the following questions:

What makes us weep for Atlanta? What are our dreams for our city?

How can we become revival ready?

In late March we were given a gift from one of the local churches who arranged for us an event separate from their missions festival by providing ...  a City-wide “Day of Equipping.”

In April, we began a series of monthly gatherings reaching out to pastors, intercessors and worship team members communicating our strategy to reach 3.5 million people with the Gospel. The locations of these gatherings were held at Northside Community Church (North), Atlanta City Church (South).  Orange Hill Baptist Church (West), Intown Community Church (Central) and Messiah’s House (East):

Our servant team met in June to develop the following ministry statement:

UniteAtlanta is a movement of pastors, intercessors, and worship leaders rallying the Church to transform our City with the presence of Christ.

In addition to our normal monthly gathering in August, we hosted the “Atlanta Prayer Summit” located north in Toccoa, GA with 41 churches and eight different ministries.

In late September, we saw for the first time a coordinated effort to have regional prayer and worship gatherings in different gates of the City.

These included:

NORTHWEST - On The Marietta Square, Thursday, September 28th SOUTHWEST - Peachtree City Church of God, Thursday, September 28th NORTHEAST - Lilburn Alliance Church, Sunday, October 1st WEST - Jesse Davis Park, Douglasville, Friday, October 6th NORTHWEST - Christian Praise Center, Canton, Friday, October 6th CENTRAL - Thomas B. Murphy Ballroom, Georgia World Congress Center Saturday, October 14th It is estimated that 1,200 were in attendance over this two and half week period.

We have had 203 churches participate in gatherings over these nine months and have collected over 700 names of pastors, intercessors and worship leaders. While we utilized a servant team earlier in the year, we have just formed an executive committee and developed a plan for 2001. Our application for tax exempt status will be complete and filed this month.

Reflections on The Summit Experience ...

“Yes, Lord yes!  I came to the summit worn-out, exhausted and spent, but left uplifted, revived and encouraged in Christ. This was worth it!”

Tony Danhelka, Riverwoods Christian Center, St. Charles, IL

“The Prayer Summit is vital, not only for the life of the pastors and

ministry leaders, but also for the life of the Body of Christ throughout

Chicagoland.  A Prayer Summit allows us to gather at the feet of Jesus,

listening on behalf of the Church scattered throughout Chicago’s

neighborhoods and suburbs - Which is why we must have representation from

all nations, generations, and denominations.  Is this the year you will

say “Yes!” and meet with us as we meet with the Lord of the Church?”  Phil

Miglioratti,   National  Pastor’s Prayer Network, Chicago, IL

“It was an uphill climb with many turns and slippery rocks; but the three days of the summit were worth every effort it took to get there and remain there. I will never forget that moment, the last night when I could finally pray “I’ve got it Lord, I understand”.  What Glory!” Claudia Dunne, State Coordinator, National Day of Prayer.

“I have been a apart of the summits for four years.  Each year God has

met with and strengthened me.  It’s a must for my growth.  God has also

shown me how important it is for pastors to come together and pray for our

city.  We must be together united in prayer.” Doug Harsch, Senior Pastor

of Northwest Fellowship Baptist Church

“The Prayer Summit is a place where those in ministry can UNPLUG from the drain of day-to-day ministry and PLUG into the One True POWER SOURCE.’ After RECHARGING our BATTERIES (spirits), we are ready to PLUG back into ministry and life,  RECONNECTING with a stronger CHARGE (anointing) and more POWER.  Periodically, we need to get away and tune out all the voices in our life so we can go listen to the One whose Word  really matters.”

Cheryl Dorsey,  Rivers of Life Prayer Ministries/Beacon Hill M.B. Church,

Chicago Heights, IL

“The Pastors Prayer Summit has become the highlight of my spiritual

year. The time I spend before God during those days sets the pace and

priorities of my ministry in the following months. While I have been

praying with other Pastors, God has enlarged my vision of Himself and of

the work He is doing through His church in Chicagoland.”  John Erickson,

Brickyard Bible Church, Chicago, Illinois

13. YOUTH OUTREACH NETWORK LINKS 2000 CHURCHES

>From:  Mark Whittaker - Youth Outreach Network, Director

The Mission of the Youth Outreach Network is to unite the Body of Christ to reach out and minister to all youth in the DFW/North Texas area.

The Strategy of the Youth Outreach Network is to facilitate the Networking of youth workers for prayer, fellowship, mutual encouragement and the sharing of resources as a basis for cooperative outreach to the youth of their community.

The Youth Outreach Network was born in 1989 in an Evangelical Alliance of Greater Dallas meeting when over 100 pastors unanimously decided that the single emphasis on which they wished to cooperate going into the 90’s, was to reach the youth of the Metroplex.

Dr. Jim Mulkey, the Director of the EAGD and Mark Whittaker, who  was selected as the Youth Outreach Network Director implemented the pastors mandate in the Spring of 1990, creating an area wide strategy and establishing the original 15 local community networks. In 1995 the Youth Outreach Network became a separate 50 1 © (3). It is governed by a board of local DFW businessmen and an advisory council of church youth ministry professionals, who lead the local networks.

Today the Youth Outreach Network links together over 2000 churches and para church organizations in the DFW/N. Texas area, and coordinates yearly outreach strategies with the goal of praying for and presenting the gospel to every one of the Metroplex’s 1 million young people.

The Youth Outreach Network has currently 20 local area networks in which church youth workers and parachurch leaders work together to reach the youth in their own communities. These networks each also work together with the other networks, to allow for Metroplex wide strategies, training conferences, crusades, and events, all designed to help the youth at each local church reach their fellow students.

This allows us to cooperate on events such as See You At The Pole, which was started here in the Metroplex in 1990, and is now an annual national event with an estimated participation of over 3 million youth praying at their school flagpoles.

The Youth Outreach Network is the local expression of the National Network of Youth Ministries in the DFW/N Texas Area. In addition to the coordination of the local networks and area wide events, we provide vital resources and information to churches with our quarterly newsletters, calendar of events, annual Resource Guide, and informational mailings to keep their youth workers on the cutting edge of ministry and outreach.

In recent years as the “City Reaching” movement and the “Church of the City” concept has begun to emerge in our area, the Youth Outreach Network leaders have had the opportunity to serve as the representatives of the youth and youth ministries along with the other “Gate Keepers” type leaders of the Sr. Pastors, Intercessors, and Business people in their communities.

14. HARTSVILLE, SC: CALLING PASTORS TO MEET IN PRAYER >From: “pastorzm” <pastorzm@netzero.net> Please be in prayer for an effort that has begun to call the pastors of this community together every month in 2001 for prayer for our region. The Lord impressed on me during our ppg meeting last week to initiate a city wide prayer initiative for the pastors in our community. I am asking for 12 pastors, who are not in our present group ,. to each  host a gathering.  So far I have four months covered. Pray with us for a move of God in our region. There is a real need for unity across racial and denominational lines. Pray that we will experience the reality of Eph. 2:14-ff “He is our peace who  has broken down the dividing wall...” Blessings to you. Mark Driskill. co-pastor Cornerstone Baptist Church Hartsville S.C.

>From: “pastorzm” <pastorzm@netzero.net>

Our first gathering went well with ten pastors, representing different races and denominations. Gods presence was very strong there, and the pastors seem ready to keep going in this. I believe God is up to something , not only in Hartsville, but this region.

15. OAHU PASTOR’S PRAYER NETWORK: OVERFLOW CROWD

>From: Carey Green <christinme@safeaccess.com>

The Central Oahu Pastor’s prayer network did hold our Christmas Eve service to a packed house!  There were 1346 people in attendance when we only expected around 1000!  We had to set up more chairs because people kept coming!  We worshipped, sang, and prayed together and ended the night with an evangelistic message by a local Calvary Chapel pastor. Over 10 people responded to the gospel message that night.  More than anything our churches have been energized seeing Christians of various denominations (from Presbyterian to Four Square) coming together in unity to see Christ magnified!  For more information about the Central Oahu Prayer Force you can check it out at:

16. HOUSTON, TX: 150 PASTORS

>From: Jim Herrington <jhmh@swbell.net>

Approximately 150 pastors gathered yesterday (Monday) at The Worship Center to pray for the transformation of the Greater Houston area.  This was the first of a year long emphasis called The Pastors’ Year of Prayer.  Each month pastors will be encouraged to gather.  We will meet at a different church each time.  The time (10 a.m.) will stay consistent.  Please pass the word about this monthly gathering along to your pastors.  Mission Houston is joining a dozen or more churches and ministries in the city to encourage pastors to participate in this gathering.  I am deeply grateful to Pastor Steve Riggle for his initiating leadership in all of this and to Kendall Bridges for serving as host.  Next month we will gather at The Encourager Church.  The date is February 12.  Pastor Bob Phillips will be our host.  The Encourager is located at 10950 Old Katy Road, Houston, TX.

The phone number is  713-722-4300. Blessings, JTH

17. GOD IS AT WORK IN FRESNO CALIFORNIA

Prayer is the key to what our city will be!

Becky Ray, Prayer Mobilization Coordinator

As God called His people to prayer in the early part of the ‘90’s, great things began to happen as they responded in obedience.  Pastors are praying together weekly at 8 a.m.

Pastor Clusters have been formed in different areas of our city.

Pastors and lay leaders come together twice a year for a Prayer Summit.  No Name Fellowship meets monthly to release God’s resources through reconciled relationships to rebuild our city. It is made up of civic leaders, pastors, ministry personal, and business leaders.  We have identified and mobilized intercessors who meet monthly and pray daily for pastors.

Churches participate in City-Wide Prayer gatherings. On Sunday, October 22nd the Transformation Video was shown city-wide and prayer was offered up in behalf of our cities in the valley.

We have a prayer and praise gathering on the National Day of Prayer at City Hall.

We are participating in the Lighthouse Movement and have  pproximately 1,000 Lighthouses who are praying and caring for their neighbors. Building relationships that will create an environment for people to experience God in a real and personal way through Jesus Christ.  Monthly Prayer Letters go out to over 300 pray-ers each month for ministry and city needs.

Citybuilder Roundtable includes over 60 Christ-centered non-profits. The goal is to have a united effort ministering to every sector of our city to the glory of God. It is the desire of the group to share the Christ-centered resources that are available in our city.  The Lord has provided us with a Christian Mayor, Chief of Police, two Deputy Chiefs, Fire Chief, County Sheriff, Superintendent of City Schools and Superintendent of County Schools.

Christian Teachers have united and pray for one another.

Fresno was recently declared an All America City and is in the top 10 safest cities in which to live. Just prior to the prayer movement, we were on of the worst in the nation. Our crime rate has decreased by two-thirds!  Praise God for His favor on Fresno California.

18. PRAY MAUI

>praymaui@praymaui.com

A brief note to communicate what is happening on the beautiful island of Maui, in the state of Hawaii. We for the last five years ... been seeking unity in the body of Christ on our Island and in the many congregations here. Our motto has been One Church Many Congregations. In March of 1996 ... we established Pastors Prayer Groups; three different communities have pastors that meet weekly on the Island. We also have intercessors in these areas that also meet to hold up the pastors in prayer on a weekly basis.  For the last 4 years there have also been Pastors Prayer Retreats. We try to have the prayer retreats on a quarterly basis. We just finished one last week. It was a wonderful time of Unity and Prayer.

Last August we had our first all night prayer for our Island. Another all Maui night of prayer is being planned for this coming January. Our last event, titled Ground Zero, was the largest gathering of Christians in the history of Maui. The effects of that night of unity, worship and prayer continue to be felt across our island. We feel the next event will accelerate that change in the spiritual climate over Maui.

The reason that the event was such a great success is because of the establishment of unity in the different congregations and the stablishment of lighthouses. Over the last 4 years we have been steadily establishing Lighthouse of Prayer in the neighborhoods. Our biggest hurtle has been the ability to communicate and record the lighthouses. We have great hope that with the Mapping Center software that we recently purchased and with the Lighthouse Movement web site; that these problems will now be overcome. We believe that we have approximately 1000 lighthouses now on the Island of Maui. We need 2000 to blanket our Island completely in prayer.

I personally have great hope in reaching all of the State of Hawaii. With lighthouse now popping up on all the Islands.  Communication is our biggest drawback.

19. MINNEAPOLIS, MN: PRAYER UPDATES

>FROM: http://www.prayertransformation.com

Message and Bible Delivered to Governor Ventura

Steve Loopstra, executive director of Prayer Transformation Ministries (PTM), had the opportunity to meet with Governor Jesse Ventura and other religious community leaders. Rev. Loopstra spoke directly to the governor, assuring him that “literally thousands of Christians across the state were praying for him.” The governor graciously received his comments, and later received a gift for his wife from Rev. Loopstra. First Lady Terry Ventura had commented at the Minnesota Prayer Breakfast that she had borrowed her daughter’s Bible that morning. Rev. Loopstra is pictured at left giving the governor a women’s study Bible, which the governor said he would take to his wife.

Fresh Encounter with Dr. Henry Blackaby

PTM partnered with Bethel Seminary to bring Henry Blackaby to the Twin Cities n October 13, 2000. Dr. Blackaby spoke to nearly 1,000 pastors and leaders during the day, and then was part of an evening citywide Fresh Encounter event at the Minneapolis Convention Center. PTM as key to bringing Dr. Blackaby to the Twin Cities, and coordinated the evening event—a call to the Church of the Twin Cities to come together to seek God for revival. Dr. Blackaby’s message of repentance was powerful as nearly half of the 2,500 attending the evening event went forward in response to the call to turn back to God.

Teaching Children to Pray

PTM hosted  workshop for church prayer coordinators on teaching children to pray. Building on her experiences as director of adult and children’s ministries in a local church, Carol Madison (now communications director for Prayer Transformation Ministries) challenged prayer coordinators to include children as a vital part of their prayer ministries. Those attending the workshop agreed that God is doing a new work in raising up a children’s prayer movement to intercede for families, churches, and the city. Carol also developed a Prayer Breakfast manual for children, which she shared with national children’s prayer ministry leaders at a network meeting in Colorado in August.

Citywide Information Management

Under the leadership of PTM’s chairman John Quam, several research experts met in a first-ever consultation in San Jose, CA. By networking together, sharing strategies, and exploring new software, these gifted “information managers” will ... help cities develop insightful evangelistic strategies.

PTM Brings Together Citywide Prayer Leaders

Prayer leaders from New York City, Las Vegas, Rockford, Spokane, Raleigh, Dallas, San Antonio, St. Louis, Minneapolis, and southern California met in a first-ever Citywide Prayer Leaders Consultation, hosted by Prayer Leaders Consultation, hosted by Prayer Transformation Ministries.

Leaders met for two days of encouragement, praying together, and sharing common vision of God’s movement in the various cities. Part of the time was spent listing common threads in the prayer movements in each city. The top five common threads were: 1) Connection between prayer and the market place, 2) Foundation of informed, sustained, united, and multi-faceted intercession, 3) Growing significance of children and youth as intercessors, 4) Growth of pastoral ownership of the prayer movement, and 5) Growing communication networks.  The prayer leaders also prayerwalked through downtown Minneaplis and prayed for God’s work in other cities. It was a personally enriching time, as all participants had opportunity for other intercessors to pray over them for personal and ministry needs.

The group will meet again in August 2001.

20. CITY REPORT: CHICAGO

·        ccda -  chiccda@aol.com

There has been an increase of violence in certain neighborhoods in Chicago. The good news is that Christian men of color are stepping up their efforts to reach the lost for Christ. There have been several marches with men proclaiming that Jesus is Lord and that the church will take back the streets and our children. These marches have ended in prayer and a renewed commitment to get involved in the lives of the children and people in the community.

In an effort to get the churches involved with youth, “One Church One School” community partnership continues to encourage and empower churches to actively partner with their local public school. Programs vary depending on the resources of the church and the needs of the school however; volunteers from the church are the best resource of all.  Volunteer projects have included: hall monitors, lunchroom attendants, mentors, and tutors. Some volunteers have worked with school staff to specifically curb gang activity and recruitment. Relationship building between school staff and church members has resulted in changed lives. In some cases programs have taken place both at the school and at the churches on evenings and weekends.

Partnerships between churches and school provide a win-win situation for the whole neighborhood. One Church One School continues to move forward from its national headquarters at Carter Temple CME Church on the south side of Chicago. It is a program that any church can and should initiate.

Street evangelism is on the Rise

There seems to be a trend in street evangelism. For the past three years the west side prayer vigil has occurred where thousands have prayed on street corners, passed out tracts and gave witness to the redemptive power of Christ. Churches like St. Sabina in Chicago and J. Claude Allen (JCA), in Dixmore, Illinois have taken the message of Jesus to the street with phenomenal success. St. Sabina focuses on bringing prostitutes to Christ while JCA targets anyone who has not accepted Jesus as Savior. From the efforts of a few people at JCA in Dixmoor, hundreds of people have given their lives to the Lord. In fact, nearly 400 came to the Lord in one year.  Often mistaken as Jehovah’s Witness, this band of men, women and youth go out faithfully very Monday and Saturday. Think of the souls that would be saved if more Christian churches would make street evangelism a priority.

21. DALLAS, FORTH WORTH, TX: EVIDENCE OF GOD AT WORK

>From:  jmulkey@airmail.net

This report acknowledges God’s gracious working throughout the entire Body of Christ without special recognition of any denomination or ministry.

Still very much remains to be done.

In general we can say that the churches are growing. There is an increasing openness to the gospel and more people are praying about more things more often than was true fifteen years ago.

As to prayer: The number of National Day of Prayer events at civic centers has multiplied from 1 to 20 in recent years.

Area youth launched the first ever inter-church-sponsored See You At The Pole prayer events in 1990 at about 60 area schools with 5,000 students. This year’s estimate is 600 schools with 22,000.

The number of Pastors Prayer Groups that meet regularly to pray for the completion of the great commission in their own “Jerusalems” has increased from perhaps 1 to 15.

As to evangelism:

During the 2000 Easter season 460 area churches distributed over 800,000 Books of Hope to as many homes to reach approximately 2,160,000 people. We estimate that 10,000 church members were mobilized in this cooperative neighborhood outreach.

Hundreds of youth ministers mobilized their young people to personally invite their schoolmates to a Carman concert at Texas Stadium (Cowboys) resulting in an attendance of 72,000, an American record for a Christian concert according to the Dallas Morning News, and 5,000 professions of faith according to the Carman representative.

As to LIGHTHOUSES OF PRAYER:

An estimated fifteen training sessions and other communications have resulted in an estimated 4000 active LIGHTHOUSES.

Several large churches including the Prestonwood Baptist Church have committed to be LIGHTHOUSE churches. We believe this will result in at least 6,000 additional LIGHTHOUSES over the next few weeks.
