THE ROLE OF PASTORS IN MOBILIZING PRAYER
John
10:11 ³I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down his life
for
the sheep.14 ³I am the good
shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know
me
‹
1Peter
5:4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory
that will never fade away.
John
2:14 In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves,
and
others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of
cords,
and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he
scattered
the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To
those
who sold doves he said, ³Get
these out of here! How dare you turn my
Father¹s
house into a market!² 17 His disciples remembered that it is
written:
³Zeal for your house will consume me.²
·
Do your sheep know
you are zealous for prayer?
·
Are you brave
enough to turn over the tables of tradition that keep hinder your church from
becoming a house of prayer?
Acts
6:4 ³(We) will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the
word.²
·
Is prayer a
priority equal to the Word?
·
Have you released
the ministry (deaconing) to the church?
Acts
16:13 On the Sabbath we went
outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of
prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there.
·
Do you know where
to look for the people of prayer in your church? Your city?
·
Go there! Find
them!

Ephesians
-6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and
requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the
saints. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given
me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for
which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as
I should.
·
Standard prayer
begins with me ... Strategic prayer begins with God! (18: pray in the Spirit)
·
A House of Prayer
Church prays:
.Every
where (all occasions)
.Every
way possible (all kinds of prayers)
.Every
time we¹re together (always keep on praying)
.for
Every one in their church (all the saints)
.for
Every one in their world (19: whenever I open my mouth)
1Tim.
2:1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and
thanksgiving be made for everyone ‹ 2 for kings and all those in authority,
that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3
This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and
to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator
between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for
all men ‹ the testimony given in its proper time. 7 And for this purpose I
was appointed a herald and an apostle ‹ I am telling the truth, I am not
lying ‹ and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
·
You have been
appointed the messenger (7: apostle)
·
Your message?
(5-6: Jesus died so that we may live)
·
Your motivation?
(3-4: God loves the world, every person, every neighborhood)
·
Your mandate? (2:
Pray comprehensively; from your leaders to your neighbors)
·
Your means? (1:
Pray with urgency; make prayer a priority)
Colossians
4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3 And pray for
us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the
mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it
clearly, as I should. 5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the
most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace,
seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Colossians
4:12 Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends
greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm
in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. 13 I vouch for him that he
is working hard for you and for those at Laodicea and Hierapolis.
·
Have you found the
Epaphras intercessors who agonize in prayer (12: wrestle)?
·
Are you training
everyone in the discipleship of prayer, so that, your prayer ministry prays
people into their maturity and assurance in Christ (12)?
·
Are you hearing
and seeing a passion to pray for and to serve the cities (13)?
